There were definitely surprises with basically all countries except for Sweden and Finland in the Televote but I can’t express how happy I am right now, LOREEN DID IT AGAIN! 🇸🇪🏆
It's interesting to me how many early song winners were in the nations' native language and how it eventually started becoming English songs, no matter the country.
Apart from a few years in the 70s, it was the rule that you had to sing in your native language. It was changed in 1999 so that you could sing in any language
Everyone salty at Loreen winning needs to remember that this is a contest about unity and that your favourite doesn’t always win. Loreen did an incredible job as did Kaarija and the result was determined fair and square. There are more things to worry about in life. Be grateful that Eurovision is in our lives. How boring would it be without it 😁
Thank you very much for sharing! I can see that the quality was excellent in the beginning. Then, halfway into the 90s and in the 2010's, there were some bad winners, and in the end, the quality was back again! The top 3 winners are Sweden, Ireland, France, Luxembourg, the UK, and my home country, the Netherlands! ;-). 1. 🇮🇪 Ireland (7 wins) 2. 🇸🇪 Sweden (7 wins) 3. 🇫🇷 France (5 wins) 4. 🇱🇺 Luxembourg (5 wins) 5. 🇬🇧 United Kingdom (5 wins) 6. 🇳🇱 Netherlands (5 wins) 7. 🇮🇱 Israel (4 wins) 8. 🇺🇦 Ukraine (3 wins) 9. 🇩🇰 Denmark (3 wins) 10. 🇳🇴 Norway (3 wins) 11. 🇮🇹 Italy (3 wins) 12. 🇩🇪 Germany (2 wins) 13. 🇦🇹 Austria (2 wins) 14. 🇨🇭 Switzerland (2 wins) 15. 🇪🇸 Spain (2 wins) 16. 🇫🇮 Finland (1 win) 17. 🇧🇪 Belgium (1 win) 18. 🇲🇨 Monaco (1 win) 19. 🇵🇹 Portugal (1 win) 20. 🇪🇪 Estonia (1 win) 21. 🇱🇻 Latvia (1 win) 22. 🇬🇷 Greece (1 win) 23. 🇹🇷 Turkey (1 win) 24. 🇷🇸 Serbia (1 win) 25. 🇷🇺 Russia (1 win) 26. 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan (1 win)
people who think that there used to be better songs are probably older people. until 1980 I have the impression that nothing changes. Nowadays, much more is demanded of artists. music is one thing, but the show, dance, outfit, carrier of emotions, etc. do not move in one place
This used to be a song contest where the writers of the song were credited and they had an orchestra playing. The singers got up on stage and sang. It has now morphed more into the value of the stage production, special effects, backing dancers and how bizarre their clothes are, or lack of them all performed to a backing track. Whatever someone identifies as their gender has little to nothing to do with the song they're singing. I think they should rename this contest as it's nothing to do with being the writer of a winning song anymore.
The orchestra had its limitations in terms of sound diversity. I prefer the use of the backing track. The other issues you mention are a separate development, and they're actually major reasons why EuroVision is still successful: most people secretly love watching all the bizarre acts and weirdos on stage.
Things evolve and grow. There are hundreds of plain old song contests. The one thing that makes eurovsion stand out is the production and the performances. Eurovision is known now for that. It wouldn't last and grow if it stayed the same way
