what weight fly line is this leader for?

Hey Bob great question! Why dont we toss 24 dry flies on a 10wt salt rod or toss giant crab patterns on a 2wt fly line? This never really gets talked about and we all love loop to loop leaders. But really there is a step between the fly line and the butt of the leader and that step is often too big. Starting from his .027 butt section that should really be around a .041" fly line tip. Regardless of weight of rod and fly line. This can vary depending on the type of like so perhaps a weight forwards might be chunkier in a 8 than a double taper in a 9 and that would inform your butt section.
I like to start with the fly that I want to toss. I then figure out what weight rod and line I plan on using by size of fish. My leader design bridges the gap. So if I used this formula and it wont lay out my fly but my tippet is right then I'll probably add in a stiffer butt section either by shortening the first bit and going heavier at the butt. If that fixes it and it's not overly long its golden.

what weight rod would you fish for bonefish with? This leader will definitely work for anything from 6wt to 10wt. I've been tying my own leaders using hard mono to flourocarbon for as long as I can remember and I fish a 6wt a lot but also 8 and 9wt and I don't change the leader. It's basically universal considering saltwater rods are being used.
