Great video as always. I hope to see some of your yeti cooler seat cushions come back 😅. I want more of them lol. Love to support your art is amazing. 👏
I tie straight 8 all the time! Mostly for bass! Salt straight 30 or 20! The perfection loop and double surgeons changed fly fishing for me. Rapala knot is a must! Will catch you more fish for sure!
I build my own too but taper them a bit differently. I use mono sometimes for floating flies and fluorocarbon the rest of the time. I cut the welded loops off my lines. It is always cool to hear how other anglers do it and you are clearly successful with your techniques. How to vids and product reviews really help others improve their game or get into the sport! God Bless!
I was about to ask how you made your leaders and saw this video! We must have gone to the same fly fishing school cause i make my leaders just like that same knots too. Thanks for sharing 😊
Just ran out of the premade mono leaders and they’re expensive for no reason. This video just came in clutch. Already have 30 and 25 fluro leader in my bag.
🌴 good stuff bro , I tie my own to, I think you nailed it the only thing is I do tie direct to the fly line because the loops get hung up a lot and cause Flip Pallot said he got rid of loops along time ago , who am I to argue with flipper 😆 , and let’s face it store bought tapered leaders are expensive, yea there isn’t any knots to get hung up on ,or sometimes a weak knot from improper tying, never paid attention to if they were mono or floracarbon , 🤔 I thought that’s why they were expensive because they were tapered floracarbon, , can’t waittosee what y’all get into next , 👍🏼👊🏼
If you fished where I fished, that butt section gets destroyed and or dry rotted regularly. It definite lasts longer than a tippet, but still gets changed out at least every couple weeks.
Properly tied loops don’t snag or hang up at all. The issue is 95% if fly anglers connect the loops improperly. I should probably make that into a YT short. The proper way to attach a loop to loop connection.
@@Danielwelds That might be fine and dandy for Flip, but I base my advice off my personal experience. And I can guarantee you that my loop to loop connections are improving my fishing, not reducing it. I change my butt section regularly to make sure it's crystal clear. When you fish in the waters I fish, you'll see how nasty the leader / butt section gets when fishing in water enriched with engine oil.
You can, that is what is called a "homeboy leader". But they aren't as effective. The taper allows the fly to turn over easily, avoids it landing harshly on the water surface. Some times If I am in a frenzy and there are fish everywhere and I break off I might tie one on. Or for peacock bass where it isn't important.

The less turns on a blood knot also reduces unnecessary mass. Less mass interruptions in the line/leader, improves the cast and delivery of the fly.

Might want to consider a class tippet if you have straight 30.

Great video I think alot of people dont tie there own leaders this will definitely help them out

haha sweet. I learned a lot many years ago from Ashley over at Don's Bait & Tackle.

haha awesome!
Awesome Eric, great explanation!
Much appreciated!
I asked a question about leaders on another video, ofc theres a video addressing it!! Awesome stuff man, thanks for the great content.
haha glad you found it!
Show us how you tie up those redfish flies and walk us through the process of landing it on the fish!

I cut off the loops too, your butt section never changes

@@Eric.Estrada dude I fish in ding darling basically every weekend, if flip pallot says cut off the loop, it must be for a reason

Great information brother! Look forward to trying it!
Feel free to text me if you have any specific questions
good stuff ! thx bud
Thx,, good info.
No problem!
been useing 6 to 7 ft leader for peacock and lrg mouth bass 9ftn for salt water .is that to small you think
Dope ima stop buying liters already tapered …
Yessir!
Use your tippet rings??
absolutely no tippet rings. lol
But your tippet gets shorter and shorter when you use a different nymph or fly, right? And then your leader will be too, right?
Could I just use straight 30lb fluro leader and that’s it I just want a simple way to get out there
