Well you guys are changing the game or at least raising the bar! I really like this ecosystem you are developing. I like the pill also that standalone probe useful stuff. Priced reasonably on top of that 🍻🔥
Thanks for that Bradley. we really appreciate it. Hopefully we can get some of this gear over to you soon so you can have a play with some of our toys.
I'd love a RAPT fermentation chamber that isn't "double-sized". I use a 30L all-rounder and occasionally use the hop-bong attachment. I'd love one sized to fit that height (which I imagine would be close to the height required for a 27L uni-tank). I never have two brews in fermentors at once, so getting the current sized fermentation chamber isn't going to work out for me.
Hey Adam. Thanks for that. It's funny that you say this. This is something that we are doing at the moment. We are making a smaller RAPT fermentation chamber that is half the height and you can also double stack one ontop of another one too and use one as a keg fridge and one as a fermentation chamber.
Hello Kee, love all the RAPT gadgets you guys have come up with so far. How about a RAPT enabled spunding valve/pressure gauge? Monitoring the pressure during fermentation and being able to set an alert if it drops too low when cold crashing would be awesome. Even better if I could change the pressure remotely!
I agree, a RAPT enabled pressure gauge at least would be great, I have this with my MyBrewBot device which reports to Brewfather, however I would like to transition everything to the RAPT ecosphere where possible. I'd be happy just with a gauge - having RAPT pressure control would just add extra complexity that I'm sure would come at a significant price.
Great content, answered almost all the questions I had after setting up my temp controller, got it earlier in the week and finding it great so far. You mentioned that a pill can be bonded to multiple temp controllers, but will a temp controller forward bluetooth packets for multiple pills? Do they have to be bonded to do this?
We are doing another firmware update soon whereby one Temp controller can bond between upto 8 bluetooth devices. At the moment it only works well with one but we have some applications in the future where multiple BLE inputs can be quite useful.
Are multiple pill bonds integrated? I've bonded two pills to the temp controller and it passes on info, but there doesn't seem to be a way to specifically pick which pill is the temp probe. Throws off profiles as well.
Loving the engineering going in behind the scenes on all this KL stuff - have been buying your stuff for years and years! Any plans to build the biggest possible Fermzilla that may be able to fit into one of these? A big all-rounder or similar would pair nicely with the 100L Brewzilla that I've got my keen eye on!
The 60L all rounder is already one of the largest PET blow moulded vessles in the world. It will be difficult to make larger than this in PET but we can try. I will also say the tooling cost will be enourmous.
Hi guys, loving the stuff. Great inventions. I have just purchased one of these. How does the temp controller go when you have a fridge with 2 kegs in the chambers brewing away? Is it possible to connect it to both pills at the same time to try and optimize for both? Also on a side note. Is it best to bring the brew down to temperature before pitching the yeast (Generally extract brew)? Thanks for the support and keep up the good work.
Connecting two pills to one chamber is difficult to control. Both sets of data should be sent to the portal but only one can be used to control the temperature.
Great video and very aptly timed. I have been fermenting in the Fermentation Chamber using the pill for a couple of months. I have the Chamber out on my back verandah and it is just in wifi range. The pill not so. I ended up having to carry the fermenter inside the house to get a reading. Not the best system. I noticed the different temperatures between the pill and the chamber at 4 degrees C. I calibrated the chamber, as per your video, and the pill. Still 2 C difference. I found the Pill more accurate with a calibrated thermometer. I bonded the pill to the chamber as per this video and it was seamless. Awesome. I am yet to see if the data is still going to Brewfather. I'm planning on brewing 2 different pilsners next and having them both in the chamber. Can I use two Pills in the Chamber? 😀😀😀
Every time we do firmware updates we also have to contact Thomas from Brewfather and update him with new API calls to get the additional data. Thomas works farily quickly so generally speaking it will not be long until the bonded data will also be shown on the Brewfather portal.
@@KegLand Thanks for the prompt reply. I’m now at work and checked how things are doing via Brewfather. Up to date data is being uploaded. I’m stoked. Any halo re two Pills in one chamber?
Brought a new rapt temp controller KL22927... Doesn't have Bluetooth option in the settings menu ......what's up with that ....done OTA update heaps but nothing changes?
Unfortunately Tilt have been unresponsive to our attempts to contact them. I think they regards us as a competitor because we also manufacture the Pill Hydrometer.
It's best to check this with our distributors in America. KegLand has two main distributors in America. www.morebeer.com and www.williamsbrwing.com It's best to contact these guys directly and they can give you lead times and approximate arrival dates.
This is something that is in discussion at the moment. Some of our team think that it's best to just leave the glycol chillers as a "dumb" chiller and then for each additional fermenter just purchase another RAPT temp control box that turns on/off a glycol valve and/or heating device to control the temperature. I think this is slightly more messy but I think it's going to give you a more feature rich product in the end. Then half of our development team thinks it's better to have the RAPT temp controller integrated into the glycol chiller but this has the problem where we do not know how many different fermenters customers are using. If we have too few then it will not be good for people with multiple fermenters. if we have too many it will increase the cost of the chiller for customers that do not need them.
@@KegLand yes good points, however having external temp controllers means finding 240v pumps to run from them, or having a pump running constantly and the temp controllers operate valves… an all in one solution would be awesome, even if it does limit users to 2-3 fermenters.
@@KegLand Hey KegLand, any plans to release a glycol chiller that is tiny enough to just handle a 7gal fermenter? I only have a small corner in the living room to ferment, and so far haven't found anything compact enough to be non-obtrusive in the space. I have been considering getting aluminium plates milled and creating a peltier system, but would be much easier to buy something off the shelf from you guys! Even if it's not glycol and is peltier!
It would be cool if you had a battery-driven device that can be used as a wifi-extender for the RAPT Pill. My fermentation room of choice, is a basement storage room that always has a stable 20℃. Good for ales or lager under pressure. The room has no power due to building regulations, but it has WiFi in medium range and I'm using Kegmenters with the pressure kit. Downside, as soon as I put the Pill in a Kegmenter, it goes dark. Any device that connects to WiFi, has a battery and can connect to my Pill with bluetooth could just sit on top of my Kegmenters and solve this. If you also had pressure lids for the Kegmenter with TriClamp or the same screws you have on top of the Fermenzillas, the WiFi-extender device could also connect there and double as a pressure sensor, sending data for usage such as natural carbonation and overall ester suppression surveillance as well.
Bonus if I could see pressure live, is that I know when I might need to head down to the storage room to correct the spunding valve. But more important is the range issue. I realise it could also be a digital spunding valve.
Yes that is a fair point. We are making a new device that will monitor pressure for you and also control the CO2 gas flow volumetrically. I hope when this is finished this will solve you problem. Hopefully this is finished next year.
Yes that is correct. You need to make sure you have the controller bonded and also both firmware builds are up to date. The pill needs to be in bluetooth mode.
I have not tried in a corny keg yet but we have used kegmenters and stainless fermenters and it works fine. You do need to have the wifi AP very close if you want to do this. If you use BT then just use the BT bridge function that is in the RAPT temp Controller or RAPT fermentation chamber and this also works well.
Yes absolutely. We are just getting the RAPT temp controllers electrically approved for UK now so hopefully this is not too far away. If you go to our local KegLand distributor in UK and request one they will probably more quickly order the product in for you. The Malt Miller or Angle Brewing are good stores to try.
