I love the Mechanicus design and find their culture so interesting. However their persecution of all those who would innovate is one of the biggest self inflicted wounds the Imperium has faces. It's tragic in a way.
We need BL to do a book series on the Mechanicus Civil War on Mars, I can't believe they didn't have 3-4 books throughout the Horus Heresy series detailing this major conflict.
There is a sense where the same can be said for psykers though, and I mean the EXACT same thing. Mainly because while mankind would be augmented by better use of psykers, their use is strictly limited for a reason. You can see the scale of firepower mankind has. They literally tunnel warmholes through hell and destroy planets. The idea behind that being, the same thing as when mankind invented the atom bomb, some people questioned if it would be enough to trigger a chain reaction and set the atmosphere and fire (but they did it anyway). There's the fact our recent technology is melting the icecaps. The actual true costs of technological innovation are obscured, and the mankind of the 41st millenium has literally lived through so many of them that they are now permanently psychologically scarred as a species. Keeping in mind, one of those, involved AI eating entire planets. There's a reason why mankind is totally terrified of inventing new things, because at least we know what to expect of the old tech in theory, and what horrors unleashed by the new tech? Imagine if we invented a thing which caused False Vacuum Decay.
So their choice was between an asteroid belt within easy reach and resources that could be stockpiled for later expeditions, or a planet rich in resources but near impossible to reach at the time and requiring a significant scavenging of their already meager supply and they chose the latter? Sounds about right, grimdark from start to finish.

I'll post this under every video you upload, until you make the video or tell me to f*** off :)) Peace!
AFAIK Exorcists do not become blanks, they simply become immune to demonic possession - as they are created into Daemonhosts, likely this gives them a lot of knowledge then allowing them to resist demonic influence with no effort (and grow to hate daemons in the process). Also - I don't think they're remotely capable to the Grey Knights. This is like you saying that the US Army is superior to the Marine Corp simply because it is easier and more consistent to pass their initiation. The reality is that they both have individual, separate uses and should be respected individually as such. In terms of heretical... yeah, you might be right there. IMO i'd prefer a video on something like the Dark Cells under Terra or some other unsolved mystery.
@@lukesouter9164 My personal hypothesis about the exorcists both having "no psychic signature" and librarians(aka psykers) is that whoever created the Exorcists lore, just slept trough 40k orientation class :)) but I strongly hope that Luetin can come up with something better! :) ugh :( ... I replied to Luke 2 times, and UA-cam removed my first reply after I replied to him a second time, so I'll recreate it under here: the definition of blank: "A Blank, also known as an Untouchable, a psychic Null, and a Pariah, is a Human who possesses the rare mutation sometimes described as the "Pariah Gene" that makes them generate no psychic presence in the Immaterium, thus leaving them essentially soulless." also: "A Blank is the direct antithesis of Chaos as he or she possesses no presence within the Warp. Blanks are completely immune to daemonic possession and spiritual corruption by the forces or agents of Chaos." and from warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Exorcists :"This process has also caused the subjects to have no psychic signature that psykers can detect." an Exorcist marine might not have the Pariah gene, but sounds pretty blank to me at least :) there are many levels of "psykickness" as well as many levels of "blanckness" an alpha+ psyker can destroy a planet, an omega Blank can stop a major warpstorm. most imperial citizens are ever so slightly psykic, very low on the psykick scale - not true psykers, but also not zero. similarly the exorcists are just on the low levels of blankness. in regards of the US Marine to army comparison, the main "shtick" of the Grey Knights is that they are incorruptible, psyker marines. an Exorcist is an incorruptible marine, that can sometimes also be a psyker, that costs a bazzilion times less to create than a grey knight. The more proper comparison to modern day military forces would be: an Exorcist marine training costs the same as the training of a US Marine, and a Grey Knight training costs the same as training of the personal of an entire aircraft carrier ship, to get a slightly better US Marine :) Grey Knights are amazing yes, but at some point you have to cut costs :D
As delighted as I am to have a new Luetin video, please make sure you're staying healthy and taking care of yourself! Cheers on the great series, always a delight to have you in my suggested🍻
18:30 I've actually heard many fans claim the opposite, that the worlds that distrusted and executed their psychers out of fear and judgement actually faired better due to there being far fewer psychers alive on their worlds when the shit hit the fan. It's usually and matter of factly stated with ironic grimdark humor. Is this not true canonically?
I was wondering the same. But the galaxy being so wide I guess it wouldn't be outlandish if a general rule couldn't be drawn. I imagine some worlds which treated psykers better did so responsibly, while others went the way of Prospero. On the other hand, I imagine that some planets which treated their paykers poorly did it so effectively that none of the poor buggers lived, while others simply made it easier for them to fall to chaos
Press X to doubt. It would have been great if those worlds killed the psychers quick and painlessly, but they most of the time tortured, experminted, and lobotomized them. Look at the planet Morningstar, the thousands upon thousands of tortured psycher souls coalesced to birth an entity known as Shai-Tan. Shai-tan, which carries the memories and pain these poor souls had experienced, was and will not be satisfied unless Magnus orders the death of the world's inhabitants. The suffering those psychers experienced are extremely horrible.
Another banger!! Great video as always Luetin, this lore is so vast, I feel like if I delve in deep enough I Will never return! Looking forward to more, Cheers!
Thank you for casually explaining the differences between mechanicus and mechanicum very simply. I always wondered about that and never knew the exact details
Great as always, and can we give a shout-out to the fact that the writer chose a micrometeroite as the inciting incident, rather than something grandiose like ork space pirates, which would have been easy given the setting, but ultimately would make it feel much less real and expansive and more claustrophobic?
Thank you for doing so many mechanicus episodes. I’m a bit biased, but I find they aren’t talked about enough by other lore podcasts and channels, but I can say I bought Titans and mechanicus models partly due to these videos.
I'm just commenting again to say I would really love for you to consider doing profiles on the primarchs. Their histories, philosophies, what prompted they're turning traitor in the event they did. All of that. I know next to nothing about any of them.
Bro I remember when you were a small channel and I was directed here when I expressed huge interest in war-hammer. I’m thrilled to see you’re on Audible as I’ve always thought you had a wonderful voice. I hope it’s a great gig. Keep your health if you can fam, it’s everything.
Been playing Stellaris on console. Yikes on bikes, the games go long. I must be at 50 hours. But it makes me think of your videos and those of Isaac Arthur (real life future space lore, kinda). It's just really engaging to digest fantasy-fodder for daydreaming about large scales
Your health is the most important thing, i’m not alone in saying I would rather take sparse lore videos, than lose these. Please make sure to take time for yourself Luetin. You are the reason I got in to 40k and I can’t imagine not looking to your channel for premiere deep dive lore videos.
Thank you for making these. I don't have time nor endurance to read as much 40K lore anymore due to studying. These help me a lot in getting extremely valuable information.
Audible is great, except because I listen/read late at night. I always fell asleep, and I have no way knowing where I was with audio 😄 Text is better for me so I just have to backtrack maybe half a page to get back.

I have been getting back into 40K after giving GW the cold shoulder for a while due to what they do with fan creators but I just can´t help but just enjoy this world and setting so you bet you power armoured genhanced briches I am on board when a new video goes up.
I've never given GW a cent, they can't monetize my fantasies. No matter how much someone tries to infringe, you always have true freedom between your ears
One of the big benefits of STCs or related technology is that you can break your colony ship down to scrap, and yet still produce advanced technology provided the raw material is available

Good video as always! I can see the Psyker Problem can have various interpretations in different circumstances, for the Knight World scenerio,Open-minded policy led to disaster, yet here in the Forge World case, that policy may also be a better choice, worth taking home.
Just started watching/listening to your videos and it’s gotten me interested in the war hammer lore again. It’s nice to listen to when I’m at work and definitely passes the time by very well. Keep up the great work.
I have often considered writing 40k... and just never have felt like i CAN because it feels like unless you're so grimdark that you're feeding into this mastibatory gleeful opression of all joy you're doing it wrong.
I too want to see how the Imperium progresses. Its current level of technological stagnation is not supportable. Given the size and number of threats it is facing, its inability and unwillingness to progress is going to screw it hard.
@@THExRISER Also isn't Valdor and his team comeback with building armies consisting of many new things including controllable "good daemons" to his whim for future war? The sooner Imperium step up their games, the closer it's setting to actual "end-times" scenarios, it doesn't have to be the less-desirable Age of Sigmar mode but at least having the war perpetuated to a better favour would be great, considering new threats like Slaanesh shouldn't even last this long and you know, tyrannids' Leviathan tendrils encroaching closer and closer

Luetin, honored brother. The torture you may take upon yourself in matters of voice, vocal and throat health is not something I or many other brothers and sisters wish upon you. Remember to rest, ease your voice and not push yourself more than is comfortable to yourself. I will hear every word of yours, did they come an hour or a month apart. And I will hear them multiple times because I sleep to it. Rest in ease brother. Thou art great and precious to us. Even though there's only war, I wish rest and peace upon thee.
Take your time for your mental and vocal health. Even if you never publish another thing ever again you have been incredibly helpful to me in a roughy time and thank you.
Forge worlds sound horrific. They really suit the thematics of the setting. Like it's easy to imagine the awe you would feel seeing something like this. But I often think about Krupp steelworks in Essen and how that was a city factory... To think of THAT planet wide is insane. Then you realise you're in the 40K setting with all the horrors outside of the epic scale of the industrialisation of an entire planet... The guys who came up with this had an amazing imagination.

also: "A Blank is the direct antithesis of Chaos as he or she possesses no presence within the Warp. Blanks are completely immune to daemonic possession and spiritual corruption by the forces or agents of Chaos."
and from warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Exorcists :"This process has also caused the subjects to have no psychic signature that psykers can detect."
an Exorcist marine might not have the Pariah gene, but sounds pretty blank to me at least :)
there are many levels of "psykickness" as well as many levels of "blanckness"
an alpha+ psyker can destroy a planet, an omega Blank can stop a major warpstorm.
most imperial citizens are ever so slightly psykic, very low on the psykick scale - not true psykers, but also not zero.
similarly the exorcists are just on the low levels of blankness.
in regards of the US Marine to army comparison, the main "shtick" of the Grey Knights is that they are incorruptible, psyker marines.
an Exorcist is an incorruptible marine, that can sometimes also be a psyker, that costs a bazzilion times less to create than a grey knight.
The more proper comparison to modern day military forces would be:
an Exorcist marine training costs the same as the training of a US Marine, and a Grey Knight training costs the same as training of the personal of an entire aircraft carrier ship, to get a slightly better US Marine :)
Grey Knights are amazing yes, but at some point you have to cut costs :D
As delighted as I am to have a new Luetin video, please make sure you're staying healthy and taking care of yourself! Cheers on the great series, always a delight to have you in my suggested🍻
Listened to this while painting my first ever unit in my first ever army.
Which army dude?
18:30 I've actually heard many fans claim the opposite, that the worlds that distrusted and executed their psychers out of fear and judgement actually faired better due to there being far fewer psychers alive on their worlds when the shit hit the fan. It's usually and matter of factly stated with ironic grimdark humor. Is this not true canonically?
@@mawethilumoghdikilumhakhom yeah same. I hope he sees this thread and clears it up
I was wondering the same.
@@mawethilumoghdikilumhakhom @Johnny Fiction - yup I got this screwed up lol I might make a small vid about it this weekend.
@Yeast Yeast they certainly seemed successful, but they were literally under Tzeentch's influence. It was only a matter of time
Another banger!! Great video as always Luetin, this lore is so vast, I feel like if I delve in deep enough I Will never return! Looking forward to more, Cheers!
Thank you for casually explaining the differences between mechanicus and mechanicum very simply. I always wondered about that and never knew the exact details
Audible is what truly helped me get into 40k, taking the dog for a walk every day listening to the Horus Heresy is my morning coffee ☕️
Great as always, and can we give a shout-out to the fact that the writer chose a micrometeroite as the inciting incident, rather than something grandiose like ork space pirates, which would have been easy given the setting, but ultimately would make it feel much less real and expansive and more claustrophobic?
Loved the nod to Burke and the trap door. Nice one
Thank you for doing so many mechanicus episodes. I’m a bit biased, but I find they aren’t talked about enough by other lore podcasts and channels, but I can say I bought Titans and mechanicus models partly due to these videos.
Luetin you bless us this day
I really hope that was a Trapdoor reference I heard in there! If so kudos Luetin!
I'm just commenting again to say I would really love for you to consider doing profiles on the primarchs. Their histories, philosophies, what prompted they're turning traitor in the event they did. All of that. I know next to nothing about any of them.
This would be great.
Bro I remember when you were a small channel and I was directed here when I expressed huge interest in war-hammer. I’m thrilled to see you’re on Audible as I’ve always thought you had a wonderful voice. I hope it’s a great gig.
Keep your health if you can fam, it’s everything.
This day jus keeps getting better!
Mechanicus related video the same day I begin building my first skitarii nice
Oh c'mon, I really wanted to go to sleep earlier today. But I will have to watch and listen and enjoy the Lore Master's speech, as always 👏🙏
Been playing Stellaris on console. Yikes on bikes, the games go long. I must be at 50 hours. But it makes me think of your videos and those of Isaac Arthur (real life future space lore, kinda). It's just really engaging to digest fantasy-fodder for daydreaming about large scales
Two vids in one month. It's a Christmas Miracle.
A Trap Door reference in a 40K lore vid?
Absolute legend.
"Hmm I should see if Luetin09 has something appropriate to listen to while I paint my new Skitarii..."
PRAISE THE OMNISSIAH
The lore master blesses us this Christmas with amazing content! Praise the God Emperor!!
loved the trapdoor reference! >Berk! feed me!
omg, my speaker malfunctioned for 30 seconds and just spat out screeches and ticks. THE MACHINE SPIRIT IS NOT PLEASED. AHHHHHHHHHHHH
Your health is the most important thing, i’m not alone in saying I would rather take sparse lore videos, than lose these. Please make sure to take time for yourself Luetin. You are the reason I got in to 40k and I can’t imagine not looking to your channel for premiere deep dive lore videos.
Damn by the emperor, Luetin you just made my night after a long day.
While I don't play this game, your breakdown of the lore keeps me coming back for more and more
Hey, these videos are great!
Can you potentially do a video on the Death Guard? Maybe a focused video about Mortarion the Reaper?
Death Guard are hilarious🤮💩💚
Thank you for making these. I don't have time nor endurance to read as much 40K lore anymore due to studying. These help me a lot in getting extremely valuable information.
Gather around the fire folks. Luetin speaks.
All the best in the coming year, *Luetin!*
Thank you for being part of a good one.
Audible is great, except because I listen/read late at night. I always fell asleep, and I have no way knowing where I was with audio 😄 Text is better for me so I just have to backtrack maybe half a page to get back.
I come back to this one all the time. I think these little focused lore bits are great. You're a legend and a hero.
Three videos in one month? Emperor be praised!! And it’s about my favorite type of world to.
Love the subtle reference to the trapdoor show you snuk in there, keep up the great work.
Brother Luetin09.
You need a well rest. Recovery first. Your service to the Emperor and the imperium are too valuable to lose. Take as much time as needed we will be here holding the imperium until you return.
Your content is just awesome! The way you deliver a wealth of information is perfect and makes people want to deep dive what else is out there in the 40k universe.
Thank you!
I love the 80s 'Trap Door' tv show reference towards the end :)
A third vid this month?! Christmas came early!!! Thank you Luetin09!!!!
Luetin is such a great creator of 40k lore and it is so informative and brilliantly presented so kudos to Luetin
The Lore Master provides 🙏🏻
just started reading Mechanicum so this is great! Love your work Leutin!
Me: *is sleepless | looks at subscriptions | finds a new lore video* Yay! *lies down and phantasises about 40k while listening to a soothing voice*
I have been getting back into 40K after giving GW the cold shoulder for a while due to what they do with fan creators but I just can´t help but just enjoy this world and setting so you bet you power armoured genhanced briches I am on board when a new video goes up.
I like the world, but I wouldn't get back into gaming now.
I've never given GW a cent, they can't monetize my fantasies. No matter how much someone tries to infringe, you always have true freedom between your ears
@@horrificpleasantry9474 you're right but...the plastic crack addiction is too strong
@@GeoffreyBronson 3d printing is tha way
i literally have never heard of warhammer before i stumbled upon one of your videos. Now I know everything.
Great video. That outro music with the visuals gave me chills.
the audio stories on here are just so damn good this is one of my favorite channels just finished your 9 hour pawns of chaos
One of the big benefits of STCs or related technology is that you can break your colony ship down to scrap, and yet still produce advanced technology provided the raw material is available
Nothing brings me as much happiness as finding a new Luetin video while assembling more minis. Thank you for all of the awesome videos, Luetin, and Happy Holidays.
Merry Christmas brother Luetin .. Thank you for being here throughout the horrible corvid year we have all been affected by. Your channel is a true LIGHT in my life & many many other fans in our brilliant community. Merry Christmas to all my warhammer brothers & sisters!! Hope our new year brings us hope & happiness!!!
Yepp, Audible is awesome.
I drive for work, around one hour single trip which makes 10 hours a week.
Horus Heresy series is my friend this year!
Always a happy man when I see another Adeptus Mechanicus related topic!
It’s crazy that you made this video because I just started listening to flesh and steel the other day because someone suggested it to me on Reddit because I was asking about lore on just regular humans
Good video as always!
I can see the Psyker Problem can have various interpretations in different circumstances, for the Knight World scenerio,Open-minded policy led to disaster, yet here in the Forge World case, that policy may also be a better choice, worth taking home.
That outdo thing with the music... bro....
10/10 -ign
Just started watching/listening to your videos and it’s gotten me interested in the war hammer lore again. It’s nice to listen to when I’m at work and definitely passes the time by very well. Keep up the great work.
One of my favourites of yours, love hearing the history of a single world across the whole of the timeline.
Can't believe you managed to shoe horn in a Trap Door joke complete with the original background 🤣🤣🤣 Bravo mate.
Whether or not I watch them, always nice to see a new Luetin video in my feed.
Christmas has come early, into my first listen of many.
Merry festive season leutin
Luetin reads to me every night, it's pretty cool I know
YES! Just got home from work, now I can relax, thanks Luetin!
Don't worry we have Cawl.
@@ohamatchhams That's from the new Eisenhorn book right?
Didn't read that yet but yeah good point.
When i started the video it had 600 i put it to 601 and then i had to stop the video for about 3min i come back it has over 1000 likes. Stay pimpin Luetin ✊
I totally thought this video would be about Samech and how they fell to Chaos and the study of xenos tech but this was also a really good subject. Love your videos, hope your voice gets better
We had an internet outage for a day. All hope seems lost until he deliveres. Net got back up 4 hours later. I say it is the fastest mechanicus service I have receive yet. Usually takes 5-10 months
Even though there's only war, I wish rest and peace upon thee.
straight up the single best lore channel.
40:55 Tempestus you say? We may have just discovered the new vehicle coming out for Scions in 40k...
Amazing lore and I love these dives into a single World it really helps with the immersion into the setting.
Luetin, master of lore, conjure of explicit knowledge and documented fact, primary audiorator or the pervasive truth. Your work has truly been ever inspiring and one of my must enjoyable sources of fan work within the 40k community. Your video's have literally been a mental anchor point and source of pure enjoyment, during my struggles through hard and stressful periods of my life combined with a pressing phd. Sad to hear your are still struggling with vocal health issues and hope a break over Christmas, with some TLC from your love once and some off time can help you get back good health and the absolute smooth god voice that you posses, you magnificent man.
Love and the best wish for you health and your holidays
Jeppe
You are awesome Luetin.
I have just clicked on this video and already know this video is gonna be great.
Flesh and Steel was a FANTASTIC read! best standalone book I've read in 40k, great environment and character development! are you going to discuss these books anytime?
