I don’t remember where I came up with this but I’ve been paying 1lb per colony. 16 colonies per yard. Property owners are always amazed at how much they get.
Texas ag tax law is such that it seems like a lot of folks around here charge the farmer's for bee placement. (And rent is pretty high: something like $20-40 per hive per month). I only have one out yard and I still give them a couple of pounds per production hive (and don't charge rent) but I think I'm in the minority.
Near Topeka, KS the gratuity is 1 gallon of honey in a jug or bottles. They usually want bottles and give them away as gifts like you said. Thanks for the video.
Thank you, looking forward to how you look for new yards, I want to find an out yard, my first in the spring if the bees do as well as I hope this winter.
This was my first year with an outyard. The farmer preferred a bucket of bulk honey to sell at their farmers market. Next year they want a few more buckets
@@gusmitchellcranesnesthoney6529 I should have been more clear, I see what that sounded like. They pay for the honey. I think they paid a little less than market rate, but happy to give them a good deal out of it
I can’t say your overpaying, if your land owners and you are happy sounds good. What I give is just because what I was taught by the guys here and what is traditional in my area.
Good talk. A case of pints is what we do here as well.
Thanks! Yeah seems pretty standard.
GreT info Gus thank you for videos
Thanks, Gus! "I don't want my bees where they are not wanted." Yup.
Yep, Gus, we gotta keep our farmers happy.

Amazing what a sincere THANK YOU means to folks.
Thanks Gus!! See you soon at Hive Life!!!

Nice video, that’s an often overlooked part of beekeeping 👍

@@nszucs1 OK I got you, I also give my farmers a better rate on the honey they sell.
Nice I've been lucky so far haven't rented any yards.
Good into. I give 24 2# bottles. Sounds like I over pay. But I do 1 bottle per hive. Not sure if that is over paying?

Do you label the jars with your label or do you leave the jars unlabeled?
I label them unless asked, I have no problem giving unlabeled if that’s what they want
