Love it. I needed this! "Some part of you wishes to continue to suffer". So weird but so true!! Probably requires a whole vid just to cover that phenomena. If anybody even understands it well enough!😂 Thanks. D
Yeah, you're probably right, a whole video on just that one idea. Isn't that a weird thought, that some part of us wishes to keep believing the dream and struggling and suffering? I guess that's part of being human.
Thanks so much for this video. I am new to these ideas and often get overwhelmed when trying to meditate or dive deeper into them. I just checked out your book Zen Confidential Confessions of a Wayward Monk at my community college. I wanted to take a look at your videos before reading and turns out it's exactly what I needed to hear today. Weirdly enough, it felt great to hear you relate about "wanting" to continue to suffer. I feel that in my own life quite a bit. Overcomplication has been an issue for my journey. Thank you for showing me how subtle this practice can be. Hope you feel better soon and congratulations on a new book!
Thanks Jack, this really helped a lot. I also sit for several hours a day at a desk, and I just don't feel like sitting any more. But I can do walking meditation around my house when it's too cold and snowy to walk outside. I learned both the Zen style (slow) and Tibetan style (quick) walking meditation. So I will try walking meditation for a while and see what that has to offer. And...Less is enough...wow, that's a powerful lesson.
Glad it helped! More and more I'm starting to realize a lot of people are in the same boat as me, and that there are really simple basic practices people can do that are not just sitting meditation. Thank you for the reminder.
I absolutely love what you’re saying here Jack!… although, I wonder if I’m “allowed” to like it as a person who’s not a proper zazen practitioner, and therefore, maybe missing the point. Still, I feel this mix of open mindedness and rigorous self inquiry is a key to a more centered life. not necessarily easier, but at least more “harmonious”. Thank you for posting this!
dont know if you knew Eshin... but he followed a daily schedule of three 25 min sits in the morning and in the evening, every day... I dont think following such a rigid routine is good, but the everyday-ness is good I think 😅
@@zenconfidential25 ala macdougdoug the relationship of cosmic law to the perception of cause and effect related to egocentric activity. I've been Sapolskying recently.
OK weird. I think I got the algorithm mad at me. I tried posting a response, but it's not showing up. Anyway cosmic law and the ego's perception of cause and effect. I've been grinding on Sapolsky's new thang for a bit now (if that helps put it in perspective).
Thanks so much. This is EXTREMELY helpful, not to mention a big comfort.
So glad! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for another gem on youtube. Without your viedos I quite surely would have given up on practising. 🙂
Best words I've heard all day, thank you.
Thank you, this was awesome! I love the idea of the 5 seconds rule.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you.

@@zenconfidential25 yeah, maybe it's a matter of us being more familiar and therefore more comfortable with suffering than peace!!???
Thanks for this. It's so simple and direct with a wonderful utility...which for me defines the best of teachings.
You're very welcome!
Very, very timely - thank you!
Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you!

Thank you Samantha, I'm glad my book and videos found you. Yeah, I hear you on "wanting" to suffer. We are human, but we can become WISE humans!! :)

Believe me, I am not a proper zazen practitioner either. Thank you my dear friend.

CONGRATS🎉 on the book🎉
Feel better.
And not at all related, but do you have any thoughts on the relationship of Buddha Dharma to karma?
How do you mean exactly? (And thanks!)
Depends what you mean. By Dharma do you mean : the teachings or cosmic law? By Karma do you mean : the cause and effect of self-centered activity?
