Now that they are opening vanilla servers i will return to giving them money. The thumbnail of this video says a lot to me. When Jon rants, he doesn't blast rage out; he speaks with a degree of calmness and reason. His rants are far more pleasant to listen to than most others'.
This is the only video of him I've watched, but this rant makes him seem like a cry baby. Just whining and making childish comments throughout the whole video, I liked Sodapoppins video on this issue so much more.

He's not a time traveler because he just so happened to be talking about another sellout game company that has become notorious for making stupid fucking decisions and getting reprimanded by the gaming community for it. This happens with countless other soulless cash-grabbing game companies that would not hesitate to sell their first-born children for an extra buck.
With any other blizzard game you can still play the vanilla version, Starcraft without BroodWar, Diablo 2 without LoD, wc3 without frozen throne etc, the only exception is World of Warcraft. You made really good points and I agree it should at least be a server option on wow, and who knows maybe blizz will see an increase in returning subs.

Nostalrius was run by a team of volunteers that spent years coding an older version of World of Warcraft with no intentions of making a profit. Over 800,000 accounts were registered there and 150,000 were active within 10 days of the shutdown announcement. Clearly, the players don't want to that to do that either. They think they do but they don't.
I feel like I lost so much after Nost shutdown, I had a large circle of friends and got to know more and more people... Its not like that on any other MMORPGs that Ive played, not even on Classhit...

I really enjoyed vanilla WoW a lot. The amount of time I would need to invest to learn about all the expansive changes would almost be its own full time job now these days. It's a shame Blizzard feels the need to disrespect some of the their most core and early adopters and basically offer no LEGAL alternative to vanilla private servers.

This is why indie games have been blowing up. They're such a small development team and they truly love their game and fans, and take the voices of their customers into consideration.

@@The_Noticer. A large amount of the people who worked on Nostalrius got hired by Blizzard to work on Classic WoW. Blizzard is doing whats smart by making money off their game. They made Classic WoW as a way for the vanilla crowd like me to play the game they love.
TF2 in this case feels like an example. Even if you can argue that the game is still fun today, it definitely isn't the same game that it used to be years ago.

I didn't stop because of the infulx of new people coming to play the game, I thought that was a great thing! I stopped playing when they decided to start adding the hats. I have come back a few times just to see where the game is now, and each time I came back I hated it even more than the previous time.

Jon brings up a good point. These people are dismissing the biggest complaint that the fanbase has now, and none of them seem to care. They're so pre-occupied with thinking of new games to make that they can implement microtransactions in that when a legitimate issue like this comes up, they spit in the faces of all the 120,000+ people that attended Nostralrius' farewell. You can't just tell fans of your game who are building custom servers from scratch that they don't know what they want. I'm pretty sure they know damn well what they want- they're shelling out money out of pocket to make it happen in the first place! Imagine if Valve took down all the servers for TF2 and instituted a new shitty mode where all you do is stand around in a base and play minigames and shit. Valve would catch hell a thousand times over and no one would buy another Valve game again! I was thinking about picking up WoW and trying the Overwatch Beta, but after seeing the doucheknockers that Blizzard has become, there's no way in hell I'd ever give up a cent to them now.

They probably were involved with Wrath somehow with future patches, but their taint didn't start to show until Cata. The first omen I remember was when they started to cater to casuals in endgame PvE content.

Even RuneScape added their Old School servers that you can play on both free to play and as a member, Old School has grown to make up about half of the total players logging in a day. Blizzard could learn a thing or two from legacy servers, profiting off of nostalgia isn't exactly a bad thing lol
You know why WoW was succesful? Because it was "new", they can always make a legacy server but guess what, thats not "new". the game itself has more than 10 years Blizzard loves money, and if they DO NOT want to make legacy servers if because is not worth it, simple as that.

I mean, you *could* install a private Wrath of The Lich King server...if you wanted. The Hyperion server from the Twinstar website is the one I play on, and it's pretty amazing. (Oh, and by the way, the server he was talking about that got shut down was a vanilla server. Meaning it was the original game years before The Burning Crusade in 2006 or the WOTLK expansion in 2008.)
All of you have a chance, just find decent priv server(there is alot of them) and start from beginning. Even if you pass after 1 month it will be still OK. At last you will have the point of view about how wow has change in time.
I mean, you can STILL fight the Lich King in live, given you find a dedicated twinking guild and you're all at a good gear level for the encounter. But, I know what you mean- the original, end-game nostalgic climax.
I haven't even played WoW since vanilla, but this still pisses me off. Take a look at Runescape - people were making servers for the original style of RS without all the new crap, and they didn't like it so they got their own servers and badda bing badda boom people like it. I mean so much of valves current games originated as mods, which is insane and incredibly cool. And to this day they still interact with the community through the steam workshop mods, skin submissions, forums, and cross game deals.

The thumbnail of this video says a lot to me. When Jon rants, he doesn't blast rage out; he speaks with a degree of calmness and reason. His rants are far more pleasant to listen to than most others'.
This is the only video of him I've watched, but this rant makes him seem like a cry baby. Just whining and making childish comments throughout the whole video, I liked Sodapoppins video on this issue so much more.

He's not a time traveler because he just so happened to be talking about another sellout game company that has become notorious for making stupid fucking decisions and getting reprimanded by the gaming community for it. This happens with countless other soulless cash-grabbing game companies that would not hesitate to sell their first-born children for an extra buck.
With any other blizzard game you can still play the vanilla version, Starcraft without BroodWar, Diablo 2 without LoD, wc3 without frozen throne etc, the only exception is World of Warcraft. You made really good points and I agree it should at least be a server option on wow, and who knows maybe blizz will see an increase in returning subs.

I really enjoyed vanilla WoW a lot. The amount of time I would need to invest to learn about all the expansive changes would almost be its own full time job now these days. I didn't stop because of the infulx of new people coming to play the game, I thought that was a great thing! I stopped playing when they decided to start adding the hats. I have come back a few times just to see where the game is now, and each time I came back I hated it even more than the previous time.

Blizzard is too corrupt anymore to care about fans and they've joined the bandwagon of companies that make money their one true goal. Whenever someone tries to bring up the fact that activision came in and slaughtered the hard-working people of blizzard just to rehire in the exact same positions, blizz admins will try to silence them. Disgusting to think that such an amazing company could allow this to tear them down. RIP the blizzard that had a heart.
Jon brings up a good point. These people are dismissing the biggest complaint that the fanbase has now, and none of them seem to care. They're so pre-occupied with thinking of new games to make that they can implement microtransactions in that when a legitimate issue like this comes up, they spit in the faces of all the 120,000+ people that attended Nostralrius' farewell. You can't just tell fans of your game who are building custom servers from scratch that they don't know what they want. I'm pretty sure they know damn well what they want- they're shelling out money out of pocket to make it happen in the first place!
Imagine if Valve took down all the servers for TF2 and instituted a new shitty mode where all you do is stand around in a base and play minigames and shit. Valve would catch hell a thousand times over and no one would buy another Valve game again!
I was thinking about picking up WoW and trying the Overwatch Beta, but after seeing the doucheknockers that Blizzard has become, there's no way in hell I'd ever give up a cent to them now.

They probably were involved with Wrath somehow with future patches, but their taint didn't start to show until Cata. The first omen I remember was when they started to cater to casuals in endgame PvE content.

+A Healthkit Or at all ever. the problem is we would LOVE to play it on retail servers but problem is we can only play the newest expansion version of the game. i would start my sub back up if they let us play on servers that were set at certain expansion version, they are shutting them down because they dont want people not paying because they are and have been losing players for years by changing the core game.
Even RuneScape added their Old School servers that you can play on both free to play and as a member, Old School has grown to make up about half of the total players logging in a day. Blizzard could learn a thing or two from legacy servers, profiting off of nostalgia isn't exactly a bad thing lol

I mean, you *could* install a private Wrath of The Lich King server...if you wanted. The Hyperion server from the Twinstar website is the one I play on, and it's pretty amazing. (Oh, and by the way, the server he was talking about that got shut down was a vanilla server. Meaning it was the original game years before The Burning Crusade in 2006 or the WOTLK expansion in 2008.)
All of you have a chance, just find decent priv server(there is alot of them) and start from beginning. Even if you pass after 1 month it will be still OK. At last you will have the point of view about how wow has change in time.

Why did it age well?
I haven't even played WoW since vanilla, but this still pisses me off. Take a look at Runescape - people were making servers for the original style of RS without all the new crap, and they didn't like it so they got their own servers and badda bing badda boom people like it. How can such a huge company be successful if they don't give two shakes of a rat's ass about their fan base

The funny thing is OldSchool Runescape has just as big of a player base as normal Runescape, Blizzard could achieve the same thing

I just don't understand why Blizzard doesn't hire these people. Valve hires people like the Nostalrius Team, because they can see the passion and expand on it. There's obviously a huge community Blizzard! v.v

Imagine if blizzard hired the guys who created Dota , it just goes to show how community mods can become something so great. I mean so much of valves current games originated as mods, which is insane and incredibly cool. And to this day they still interact with the community through the steam workshop mods, skin submissions, forums, and cross game deals.
