"Oh Carlin,' my Carlin', is playing off "Oh Captain, my Captain." directed at Robin William's character in Dead Poet's Society.
Goodmorning movie bombs, - good morning vietnam
which is also a BEAUTIFUL movie
well, this is a dead comedians society (and somehow cosby is the deadest of them all)
2nd hand raps. Found them goodwill hunting. Goodwill being a thrift store.
Could also be a double reference to Popeye as well.
Oh...the "set myself free"...oh dear God did Disney get in trouble for that.
When Robin Williams died, Disney Tweeted out the screenshot from Aladin "Genie, you're free now." Which got them in trouble with depression and anti-suicide organizations, because it sent the message that committing suicide to "be free" was a good option, as opposed to working through issues to make your life better.
Yes. I forgot about that!
It is. It's okay to commit suicide. Sometimes it is the best option, and it's okay to behave less than optimally.
@@seigeengine this is horrible but calling suicide "suboptimal" is weirdly funny to me
man, i did not know they got in trouble, but in a way he did set himself free... he was battling Parkinson's, which takes many things, speach and mental quickness being a few... some people would say he knew he was getting this, so he ended it before he got too bad...
@@burbusburbus8782 lol. It sounds like they're talking about speedrun tactics for video games
Fun Fact: Originally Joan Rivers was supposed to be the final rapper but when they showed the draft to their supporters in discord everyone was asking where Robin Williams was. And that is the story of how Robin joined this rap battle.
Also you’ll notice that all Robin disses were stuff the other comedians used on themselves, even in a rap battle he doesn’t try to hurt the other’s feeling.
I've never noticed that but it makes so much sense
That second point is really cool
Why were they asking for Robin Williams? He had been dead for a few years already at that point.
@@DisgruntledDoomer They were asking why the character Robin Williams wasn’t in the battle not the actual person.
@@deathcon6261 Yeah, but why SHOULD he be in the video? What's the reasoning? (Aside from being a standup comedian, of course.)
Personally, I always wanted for _Cosby_ to have more lines in it; he goes down way too quickly.
I actually think the shortest cameo on ERB was Pompeii in the Alexander vs. Ivan
Pompey and yeah xD
Also Criss Angel in Houdini v Copperfield…
Literally just said this🤣
@@aaronmorris1513 I almost said him but he wasn't actually rapping in the battle
Shortest cameo? "Did somebody say Angel?"
Fun fact: the actress playing Rivers was only in her late 30s at the time the battle was shot. Some amazing work from the makeup department.
wow no way
"A moment of silence for the shortest cameo on ERB"
Eh... I think Pompey's might be a bit shorter (By a head)
I applaud you for that joke.
criss angel had a short one too, might be tied to popey's lol
@@machtwo_ Angel's is one word shorter
Shortest would actually be Tay Zonday in the Sinatra vs Freddie Mercury. Tay has no lines at all.
@@mattpritchard6680 I know I'm late but he doesn't count he was just a guest appearance. He was never there to battle.
"O Captain, My Captain" was a line in the movie Dead Poet's Society
Not the shortest cameo! "Did somebody say Angel?"
"No"
"Oh"
And also Pompey
@@soundslikeskrillex9799 Yeah Pompey was pretty much the shortest that I can recall as far as cameos go.
I think a lot of people miss one of my favorite bars from Robin. "Second hand raps" "call it Good Will Hunting"
Good Will Hunting being a film Williams was in with a young Matt Damon
Good Will being a thrift shop, so he's hunting through Good Will for second hand raps
I thought that was awful clever
I feel like that was a bar everyone got
See, I thought that too, but everyone I've watched cover this one, even the reactors that go line-by-line never seem to touch on it. I thought it was pretty clever, so I figured I'd point it out.
Knox:”Let’s have a moment of silence for the shortest cameo on ERB uh courtesy of Bill Cosby”
Pompey the Great: “What about me Pompey, YEAAA!!”
"Did somebody say Angel?" "No." "Oh."
"Nobody calls me chicken" Marty
As many people have pointed out, everyone in this battle had passed away prior to the battle, except Cosby - but his career was and still is dead!
You mean...Pryor to this battle? ... Sorry.
@@amunakoy1799 that was so bad I’m crying Rivers after hearing it

BUT YOU FORGOT THE COS AND YOU KNOW ITS A MISTAKE
I eat emcees for breakfast like theyre made of chocolate cake @kylebicker7649
I just realized that Robin Williams’s first line is a reference to his movie “Good morning, Vietnam.”
And a diss on his opponents, who weren't nearly as popular in movies as he was. Carlin came closest as Rufus, but still far below Robin Williams.
@@AlexanderAzarov Also, bombs-lol.
@@greatnessdelton1381 exactly - movie bombs, as I said.
I loved this one because of the obvious love given to Robin Williams. He was my favorite comic from my childhood, and he’ll be sorely missed.
I do however have to give mad props to Gary Anthony Williams for his impersonation of Cosby in this, and willingness to be the butt of the joke in order to make COSBY the butt of the joke. The man has mad comedy acting skills all his own.
Anyone else wishing Knox stars in an upcoming ERB? would be absolutely awesome to witness
He seems like a fan favorite pick for Tom Brady, so who knows. If they brought in Scru, anyone's probably fair game with enough request lol
@@SnarkyRogue Scru and EpicLoyd had prievious collabs, and were in touch
I want this too
Sooner rather than later too! Scru has had his chance as Mansa Musa which was actually really good. We gotta "gang up" on ERB to get Knox on a battle!
My fav part of this battle is how each actor really hit their char's personality and comedy style. Carlin was all about the fast, rough, hard hitting delivery. Pryor was the more "stand up" and perform for the audience style (full disclosure, i'm not old enough to have seen much of his), Rivers was both self deprecating and 'stab you with a rusty shank' (if you haven't seen some of her comedy roasts, do yourself a favor and watch them). As for Williams, he was the more jokey, let's be friends and connect with each other style, mixed with his MASSIVE movie catalog as a comic relief.
Just wanna say, the shortest cameo goes to Pompeii. Man's got in 4 words, a title card, and died.
atleast he got the title card
@@LadyParts16 I just realized he got 5 words. That YEEEEAH at the end🤣
4-5 seconds of screen time
@@Obsessor23 better than none lmao
Don't think Knox has done Houdini vs Copperfield yet, but an even shorter cameo comes to mind...
I love how Robin William's whole part was a "I had a great acting career. What about you?" diss.
Rivers won the battle but Robin Williams won the hearts of everyone in the crowd, besides he was there for comic relief so winning the battle wasn't his intention, making us happy was :)
Based Rivers and wholesome Williams.
All is right in the world... the children will be okay yet
"Non-stopping Brain Droppings" is also a shout out to one of his books, called Brain Droppings. He also had Napalm & Silly Putty and When Will Jesus Bring The Porkchops? All of them are quite good.
I actually have a hard back copy of when will jesus bring tne pork chops. One of my prized possessions in my book shelf
@@KikomochiMendoza I HAD a signed copy of both N&S and Brain Droppings, but I believe I've lost them in one of the various moves I've done over the last few years. Sad
R.I.P. Robin Williams Gone but Never Forgotten
Immortality is not to live forever, but to never be forgotten.
At 19:26 the long Good Morning that Robin Williams starts with is also a reference to the movie Good Morning Vietnam where Rob acts as a dj who always starts by saying the iconic "Goood Mooorning Vietnam" I absolutely love that movie
Carlin was born in Manhattan. But he grew up in a neighborhood of Manhattan called Morningside Heights, which he and his friends called "White Harlem" because it "sounded a lot tougher than its real name.” He attended school in the Bronx for high school but, after three semesters, was expelled from Cardinal Hayes High School at age 15. So I am guessing that’s what the line “born” and “raised” refer to?
George Carlin's credentials as he stated:
”I want to mention my New York credentials, and they are as follows: I was born on this island, Manhattan island, therefore I was born in New York City, New York County, and New York State, and on top of that, I was born in New York Hospital...but here's the thing most of you don't know. Know where I was conceived? Rockaway Beach”
I thought he'd only had a sixth grade education
The 'what's wrong with my lip' drug trip bit was also one of Cosby's bits, about a childhood dentist visit.
Joan had great bars, but she wasted so many of them on Cosby, who self-burned, was out, and no threat in this battle. Of course, kicking someone when they were down was entirely in her character, she made a career out of it. Between that, and sure, the nostalgia, I give it to Robin.
To be fair, Joan was the one who drugged him, so even though he was "out," it was only fitting she gloat over him. The nostalgia with Robin's bars didn't do it for me and his one bar against Joan falls completely flat because she already made fun of how much plastic surgery had (and in a better bar).
To each their own of course. :)
@@fong03 That's a pretty big assumption, said poisoning was never shown, she is never shown holding or handing the container to him; it just being in his pudding was enough to make the point.
@@xheralt She says, “I would have attacked you two first, but your hearts beat me to it.” She had not started her bars against Cosby, so it’s more than reasonable to assume that is the attack she was referring to. Cosby also asks if someone put something in his pudding. Joan arrived right after that. It’s not hard to put that together. He obviously didn’t drug himself.
Also, go watch the BTS. They specially say that Joan drugging Cosby was the idea.
Did anybody notice the big yellow triangles when Robin Williams appear? That is a reference to his favorite video game franchise, Legend of Zelda, and that influenced him to name his daughter after the titular character, Zelda.
I love Robin Williams, but nearly every single line from Rivers was putting somebody in a bodybag so I gotta give her the edge. Shades of Juliet or Cleopatra in terms of sheer viciousness.
And almost all of his lines were references to his movies, not really attacks on his opponents. Love him, love the movies, love the lines - but for a battle, Joan was the clear winner to me
@@jspencer91 Look it in the bigger picture. It was a complete "I played every single one in movies and was even bigger". One "I made it farther and will always be one of the greatest actors. What will you be remembered for?".
@@TheLibermania You don't win a rap battle just by boasting about yourself. His punches at his opponents were weak, especially when you look at how Joan killed the rest of them
from what i herd rivers was suppose to be the last rapper but this was being made right when Williams passed so they put him in as an homage of sorts. that is why rivers had the drawn out Hollywood squares line as that would have been the last line of the battle.
im fairly sure that you didnt understand williams lines, he putted them ALL In bodybags simultaniously with one bar. more then once
referenced Movies by Robin Williams in order of Bar:
19:25 "Good Morning Movie Bombs" (Good Morning Vietnam 1987)
19:29 "I'm a Genie in a Bottle" (Aladdin 1992)
20:28 "Oh Carlin my Carlin" (Dead poets Society 1989 {oh Captain my Captain})
21:12- 21:17 "Mork aged backwards" "...brand new nanu" (Mork & Mindy 1978-82)
21:41 - 21:47 " I Doubtfire" "oh noooo" (Mrs. Doubtfire 1993)
22:42 "But now I've got the Flubber Flows" (Flubber 1997)
22:57 "...found em Good Will Huntin" (Good Will Hunting 1997)
23:22 "..finish this Battle like it's Jumanji" (Jumanji 1995)
23:55 "...But You'll never have a Friend like me" (Aladdin 1992)
The brain droppings bar of Carlin's is a double, since his first book was called Brain Droppings.
George Carlin, and Robbin Williams. Both names that will never be forgotten. Up there with the greats, standing next to Stan Lee and Freddy Mercury.
And now, Betty White.
"Cosby gets the prize for shortest cameo"
Pompey the Great: "Am I a joke to you?"
Criss Angel: "Oh."
Seems like you missed the first line from Williams, His Entrance, "GOOODMORNING MOVIE BOMBS" was a reference to one of his earliest successful movies Good Morning Vietnam, but also making fun of them cause all the others movies were aweful ... except maybe Bill and Teds but it still wasn't critically successful.
give credit where credit is due...but Knox got it right! Robin Williams' Jumanji is the real Jumanji
Damn right.
Who remembers the disappointment that was the board game?
Nah. The original children's book is the Real Jumanji. Though Williams' Jumamji is the superior movie version.
@@cirrustate8674 cool! didn't know about the book. But the Williams movie has a ton of charm that the new ones lack. It also had the suspense that the new ones lack. the new ones aren't bad, it's fun and funny, I no also love that they didn't reboot Jumanji they just made it kind of like a sequel.
Brain Droppings was also the name of one of Carlin's books.
"What's wrong with my lip?" is from a Cosby bit called "The Dentist", where he was saying he couldn't feel his lower lip after getting novocaine 😅
"O Captain, My Captain" is a famous poem by Walt Whitman, featured in Dead Poets Society.
When I first watched this battle I almost cried when Robin Williams cameout of that lamp. He was such a huge part of my childhood and I felt and continue to geel his death as if I personally lost a close friend
My personal favorite line is Robin Williams coming in with “Good Morning Movie Bombs” a play off of all the other comedians movies they were in, vs all of Williams various great movies, while also being a play on his signature line from, as well as the title of the movie “Good Morning Vietnam!”
Carlin was tops of the 4 as Rufus, but still far below Robin Williams' success.
I think you would love a band named Sabaton. It’s a Swedish band that focuses on historical events. They even have a channel named Sabaton history that helps you better understand the event. A good one to start with is Christmas Truce.

I really hope you will react to Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust at some point. The lyrics are already deep on their own but combined with the music video... well let's just say that there is a reason why it was voted as the best Finnish music video ever made. I just really want to see your opinions and deduction of the video because very rarely people realize what the video is about and instead they just think it's creepy when there is very much a reason for the video to be the way it is. Also they are just flat out one of the best Finnish band regardless of music genre. They are so criminally underrated and so many people would surely love them if they just discovered their music.
This has my vote.
I wholeheartedly agree. My favorite part of the song is certainly the "Don't walk away" part, but the song itself is VERY great.
I second this big time!!!
i agree with this please react to this song is sooo good
George Carlin's credentials as he stated:
”I want to mention my New York credentials, and they are as follows: I was born on this island, Manhattan island, therefore I was born in New York City, New York County, and New York State, and on top of that, I was born in New York Hospital...but here's the thing most of you don't know. Know where I was conceived? Rockaway Beach”
20:35 It's taking from "O Captain! My Captain!" and the movie you're thinking is Dead Poets Society. But the poem was written in 1865 by Walt Whitman. It's about the death of president Abraham Lincoln.
Whether he researches the references beforehand or just knows a lot of shit, I'm surprised Knox didn't get this one. I'm pretty well versed in history and classic literature and he has caught references before that I didn't even know.
@@rodboermusmc Same here. I've even learned a few things from Knox' big history brain.
But we all miss a thing or 2 at times. And sometimes they seem obvious after the fact. We've all had that "Omg, i'm an idiot.. I knew that" type of moment 😅
Only one I caught that Knox missed was Williams' line "You got second hand raps. Found 'em Goodwill Hunting." He caught the movie reference, but missed the connection with buying things second hand at Goodwill. Could be something deeper if any of the pthers got accused of ripping off jokes or something, but I don't know if any of them did or supposedly did that.
The one I caught that Knox missed was Robin Williams' first line, "Good morning movie bombs" is referencing his movie, "Good Morning, Vietnam". Good movie, based on a true story, too.
Speaking of Rufus, you should check out ERB's "Lewis & Clark vs. Bill & Ted"
Seconded.
Thirded
(1:55) Had to do it. You said Richard Carlan, lol! Love ya homie. Regardless, you got the best bar breakdowns in the biz! Stay Blessed.
Lolol knox that part at the end whe. You said come at me let's tone it down that was great lolol
I’m with ya about Our boy Rob being my childhood.
There were so many damn movies Rob was in that I watched so many times when I was a kid. Any movie he was in I wanted to watch, even the more mature movies, just because I loved Rob.
I found out he passed by flipping through the channels and saw it on the news, and I straight up cried for 3 straight days. I felt my heart drop, and no matter what, Robin Williams will forever be in my heart as the greatest.
“Oh Captain My Captain” you’ll never be forgotten ❤️❤️
I rewatched What Dreams May Come not too long ago, it still holds up wonderfully.
How many times did he play doctors or psychiatrists? Jeez...
Robin Williams is childhood itself. He's the first person i shed tear for a man i never met, yet felt so close and appreciate.
R.I.P. o captain, my captain.
Love how the battle handled Cosby. Yes, you establish that he was the OG Black comedian (according to this battle) before Richard Pryor, but then equally you punish him for his crimes.
And if you watch the behind the scenes video, then ERB says that they found a wonderful actor who was just like: "Okay, I'm just going to do this," and didn't take it too serious.
I love Williams and Lloyd played him very well but Joan stole the battle. Every aspect was A+. One of my favorite performances in ERB.
You kind of skipped over one of River's best wordplay bars. "Don't throw down with Rivers, the Flow is too relentless".
Fun fact: The show Timeless has one of the main characters named Rufus Carlin. It’s probably one of the most obvious references to George Carlin in any show, especially since both the show and the movie are about time travel
I know this one is an old reaction, even more the rap battle itself, but for some reason, I happen to come across this rap battle often when I'm having some drinks. Everytime I hear Robin's raps on this, hearing him say the line, "Gotta set myself free", I just get sad again remembering hearing about his death, and I end up drinking to his honor. Oh man, he was a great man. Here is to his honor. Cheers.
One of the greatest things ever is watching a carlin set and then watching a thomas the tank engine episode with him as the story teller. Lol

"Oh Carlin, my Carlin" is a reference to Robin Williams reading "Oh Captain, my Captain" in the movie Dead Poets Society
Williams’ first line “Goooooodddd morning, Comedy Bombs” in reference to “Gooooooooddd morning , Vietnam!” Another famous Robin Williams part/movie.
Loved this erb.😎
And really miss Robin Williams. 😔
Man your music always hits differently, you're very talented. Love your new album by the way
Finally! Someone caught Rob's last line! He was my hero. Scarred my soul when I heard he took his own life...
I have to say, one of ERB's greatest strengths is the character work... But in this one, they've outdone themselves, especially Lloyd's Robin Williams. It's almost eerie.
Keep up that grind Knox! We appreciate you. Much love bro!
The Robin Williams genie in a bottle because he was also the voice of the genie in Aladdin
I'm guessing the audio is either explained later in the video or Knox "The sexy chicken man" made an oof haha
So I was not going crazy. Something was certainly off.
This is why I've been suggesting this one! Lloyd's portrayal was so good, and it was just so fun overall, with so many good bars!
"Friend Like Me" is so much harder to finish these days. I'm glad they went easy on Robin and let him go last.
“Shortest cameo” Peter the great crying in the corner 😂😂
You know this world is terrible when the good comedians are gone and the only one left is the monster.
The last line from Williams always get me shivers
Knox, you are the only person I've been waiting to see breakdown words, words, words by Bo Burnham. Hopefully you can react to it soon.
Shortest appearance in ERB? that honour belongs to Pompey the great as he only had five words before Catherine the great beheaded him. All he said was "What about me Pompey, yeah!". Bill here had several lines more than Pompey.
Criss Angel.
22:10 I thought Joan had the best lines because Robin Williams just said the same stuff Joan and Richard already said about themselves self-deprecatingly. Kind of lessens the sting
I've been waiting for this for so long!!! Also I think shortest cameos for people who get a verse goes to boba fett in Hitler vs Vader 2!🤣(from what he's watched)
"I like that line, but I don't like that line" Yeah, I can relate. Good way of describing it.
Really loved robins round, like each jab was playful n fun and also boastful. And then the closing line that just sticks to ya.
I'm still amazed at how much, about so much, Knox Hill's brain can hold and regurgitate. It's literally amazing!
I don't know if y'all noticed but at 19:34 when he realized it was Williams, he looked at the sky for a split moment........ Love it Knox......
“ thanks folks that’s my time gotta set myself free”!.. always be one if the deepest lines ever.
Also "Good morning movie bombs" is a play on "Good Morning Vietnam" a classic Robin Williams movie. Awesome breakdown. I think Knox was so excited Lloyd played Robin Williams he missed it but I 100% get it. Keep being great Knox!
Congrats, you have the be the first reactor I've seen who actually got the "Hey Hey Hey" leading for Cosby. Huge props
Yes! Finally! I've been excitedly awaiting this day!
I been waiting for this reaction, this is by far 1 of my favorites and I love how Joan just murdered everyone. Knox your reactions are amazing bro keep it up
O Carlin, my Carlin, isn't that from "Oh Captain, my Captain" (Dead Poets Society)?
It is!
"Good Morning Movie Bombs" Is based on his role of radio a host during Vietnam "Good Morning, Vietnam"
You got all excited by Robin's movie references, but you missed his entrance: Good morning movie bombs. That was referencing his movie, while calling all the other comics movies 'bombs'
"Oh carlin my carlin" is a play on "Oh captain, my captain" from a Walt Whitman poem.
Robin Williams quotes it in 'Dead poets society'.
Williams won, but Joan was a close second. Her portrayal was Amazing.
She won, she was FAR more savage, its a battle and she battled down and dirty
She does get bonus points for KOing Cosby.
@@txaggievet Agreed. The fanboy in me wants to give it to Robin Williams. But as far as bar-for-bar dirty disses in this rap battle, it goes to Joan Rivers, no doubt.
1:56 Richard Carlin you say? 😂
"Oh Captain, My Captain" is a poem Walt Whitman wrote mourning Abraham Lincoln after his assassination which Robin Williams' character quotes in Dead Poets Society
Knox is the gift that keeps on giving
I agree, Williams took that one. This was a really fun ERB. Of course, Knox coming with the epic breakdown. Catch ya on the next one. ✌🏻❤️
The shortest cameo is definitely NOT Cosby. It happens in Houdini vs Copperfield and is even more savage.
Tied with Pompey.
@@AlexanderAzarov I'd say Pompey was shorter. Criss Angel got two lines.
@@DaemonKeido Same number of words.
@@AlexanderAzarov yeah but you get paid by line, not by words in the line. Technically, two lines of 4 words pays better than one line of 8.
