1:45 I only just now realized that those "Hey!"s in the background were actually Cosby. I thought that all this time that they were just little accents thrown in to add to the beat in the background, but no it is actually Cosby getting offended in the background before he jumps in.😂
Great breakdown since I agree that Joan carried the disses and Robin carried the jokes while everyone agrees Carlin and Pryor were not as obscene as their real life counterparts I also think Bethany nailed talking about Cosby where he clearly should be acknowledged for his influence on comedy but not given his chance to speak due to his actions, though they could have shaved off like 10 seconds from his part As for suggestions I'd love to see your reactions to Gordon Ramsay vs Julia Child
This is an odd case, mainly due to the fact that Carlin and Pryor's verses were kinda lackluster writing wise, however after watching this again.... I'd like to think Carlin faired far better to some degree Rivers on the other hand felt like night and day compared to the other two as far as portrayal, writing.... just about everything that made her standout immensely She was originally supposed to be the closer of the battle, since Peter and Lloyd were not expecting to add anyone else in, but due to HUGE high demands... he was added and I'm glad, since he made it a wholesome ending for his departure As slightly underwhelming as the match-up as well as execution was for the main title rappers, it managed to hold itself steadily with Rivers and Williams Regardless, great reaction as always! I'll go with Issac Newton vs Bill Nye or Mother Teresa vs Sigmund Freud as one of the next one's to view :)
I originally thought Williams, but looking back over the years since it came out I think I have to go eith Rivers. It's too easy to go with whoever goes last because their final words don't get a rebuttal. Robin only had one line for each one of the others, while Rivers had 2 or three and they were more vicious than Williams' insults. It's always fun to see how they handle the introduction of new characters. In this one, Cosby entered in response to Pryor claiming to be the "most iconic" black comedian, Rivers came in as Cosby was succumbing to the spiked pudding as an embodyment of revenge, and Rivers used Williams' lamp to knock out Cosby.
I agree that Rivers took this. Williams's only line against Rivers is that she had plastic surgery, which doesn't really land after she called herself Tupperware.
I'm glad you all got around to this erb. It's considered one of their best. It's odd that the only comedian in this group that's still alive is Cosby. But yeah, the more I think of it, I really miss Robin Williams. 😌
All were pretty great but I say it’s between Joan and Carlin. Carlin had a great flow and beat while I think Joan had the hardest hitting burns and wordplay. Though Robin’s part makes me very emotional and it’s just lots of fun
what is interesting, Bill Cosby was responsible for Joan's start...He ask Johnny Carson to give Joan a chance to do standup on the Tonight Show, said she had potential, so find it interesting, he helped her to get a chance to prove she was funny and such, and in the Rap Battle, she took him out.
I never noticed the bits of green flubber in the background until this watch. Also, it hurts to make a winner, I grew up with all these (yes, my dad made me watch Carlin even as a young teen). But ya, Williams is the goat.
Yeah, Robins verse was great. Funny and clever, and I definitely enjoyed it. Loved all of them in this. But Joan Rivers, absolutely brutal. She came in and completely obliterated each of the others before Robin. “Turns out you were just like your sweaters…monstrous The men that I slept with only wished they were unconscious” Savagery, sheer savagery.
No matter who anyone says won this, we can all agree that Cosby lost. Also, this is one of my favorites, because of people’s reactions to him popping up.
Oh BTW, there's been an ongoing petition ever since this erb premiered, to do another comedian themed one. If they do get around doing that, my suggestion is to use other classic era comedians with some of the newer ones. Dave Chapelle, Kevin Hart, Eddie Murphy, Jeff Foxworthy, Russell Peters, Kat Williams, Wanda Skykes, etc..
Hot Take: I’ve never really cared all that much for this one. I can’t lie, it largely comes down to Carlin, or more precisely the actors performance. It just didn’t gel with me, even if I thought his lines were fine enough. But considering just how well Rivers, Williams, and even Cosby were cast, it sucks that the comic I was most excited to see I wound up enjoying the least. Which sorta dovetails into another, possibly even spicier take: I know y’all have said you prefer it when they reach beyond the thumbnail rappers, but I think doing so throws off ERB’s winning format as often as not. The basic 2 round formula may be simple, but it gives each participant everything they need; a chance to establish themselves, and a chance for comeback, not to simply diss but to turn their opponent’s own words against them. Episodes like this might have more faces and styles, but there’s practically no interplay because each round is also serving as an introduction, and without the opportunity for a good clap back, it quickly devolves into an inverted diss pyramid wherein the next combatant is guaranteed more material and fewer risks than the previous by virtue of having more targets and fewer active opponents. That’s not to say that I hate the “unexpected third party” element or anything, plenty of my favorite episodes rely on it for a linchpin. I’ve just realized that it’s a riskier format than ERB’s tried and true.

And a Fat Albert reference. "Hey, hey, hey!"

As a Carlin fan, I thought the material was fine, but the performance felt off mark.
what i like the most in this ERB is that Robin showed up as a Genie, which is, of course, his best character that he's ever played. :)
Joan is absolutely ruthless on this one

Best and funniest ERB imho.
Mother Teresa vs Sigmund Freud

The otrginal version of this ended with Rivers. The fan outcry was so big that they very quietly took it down and put up Robin Willians's verse

Pryer did a stand-up about his life

I vote for Rivers
Robin absolutely won. Ash Ketchum vs Charles Darwin is incredible. Great editing and lines, you'll definitely enjoy it!
Thanks for recommendation 😀
Honestly, Cosby was a great comic, but a terrible human being. I think they handled it well.
Robin won this one. I will say though, it's wild that we're in the timeline that the only one of those 5 still left alive is Bill Cosby
Hey guys Helluva Boss just uploaded a new episode 😊😊😊
Thank you! 🙂
@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 no problem
I worship the sun, but i pray to joe pesci
Robin Williams won this. 🫡

Yeah there would be a lot of comics to do 🤔 not sure who we would want
This one was ehhh. Not real good. In my opinion.

Can you guys react to the “Life is Strange” trailers for 2, True colors, Double Exposure
On our list to check out at some point 😅 we do enjoy choice based games 🙂
@ great, can’t wait 🎉
