Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Spoiler Review, Easter Eggs, & Ending Explained! Greg Alba joins Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon (Cinepals) for their reaction after they covered Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, War For The Planet Of The Apes, And 1968 Planet Of The Apes! The story takes place 300 years later. The world is now ruled by apes, and humans have been reduced to a primitive state. The protagonist, Noa, is a young chimpanzee on a quest to find the truth about his world and his people. He discovers an ancient human artifact that could change everything-technology that could give apes the upper hand in their struggle against the remaining humans. The antagonist, Proximus Caesar, a power-hungry bonobo, wants to use the human technology to rule over all apes, resembling the Tony Soprano of the ape world, only with more fur and less pasta. Noa sets out on a journey to find the truth about the artifact and his people, meeting a colorful cast of characters along the way, including Nova, a feral human girl who becomes Noa's companion; Raka, an orangutan who helps Noa on his quest; and Trevathan, a human advisor to Proximus Caesar. The twist reveals that Proximus Caesar is a descendant of Caesar, the original leader of the ape revolution, akin to Darth Vader of the ape world, only with more fur and less breathing problems. In the climax, Noa and his allies face off against Proximus Caesar and his army in a battle reminiscent of "The Lord of the Rings" meets "Planet of the Apes," but with more bananas and less jewelry. Noa defeats Proximus Caesar and destroys the human technology, preventing a new era of ape dominance, and becomes the new leader of the apes, restoring peace.

William H Macy's character was likely to serve as the reason for Proximus' intrigue with ancient human history as well as providing technology for the apes. Also with 1:39:25 you should definitely react to that trilogy
40:06 I'm not gonna lie when I watched all the original planet of the ape films the second one definitely caught me off guard with what I thought were humans but were telepathic aliens that worship of fricking atomic bomb !!!!!!!!!!
I definitely see some people not liking this sinve it didnt really explain where they came from and was totally random BUT i would love to see a different take on that with mabye ancient reptilian beings "like" the sleestak from land of the lost but WAY different ?
What A Wonderful Day!!
Not being able to see it because you don't have a high enough contrast monitor
It is not that dark, but you guys are reacting in a brightly lit room, what do you expect?
At the end of the credits, you can hear grunting noises from an orangutan, hinting that Raka may still be alive! I hope so, he's practically my spirit animal in this.
Really? Love Raka. Was so sad when I thought he drowned.
@@castlerock1627I guess we'll find out in the 5th movie.
@@DanGamingFan2846agreed 💯 percent
I'm tied of seeing hundreds of this comment. Like everyone is just copy-pasting it
I didn't care for Raka, he was like the Flanderization of Maurice
*”WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!”* Proximo Caesar is Kevin Durand’s best performance ever. He absolutely commands the screen in every scene he’s in.
His character appears way later in the movie but leaves a impact, such good range
Personally I was pretty disappointed in Proximus. The guy played the part very well I just felt the character was lacking. Was far more into Sylva
@peterparker3609 after having a strong ape villain like Koba, I can understand if you wanted a bit more from him
@@peterparker3609 it’s why I really hope that Proximo comes back somehow. People can survive falls like he did.
@@thedarkknight2221nah he dead😂even if he ain't,to what end? His kingdom's gone
My favourite part is the fact that Ceasar isn’t actually IN the movie but you can feel him throughout the entire thing.
pause
The point of the old guy was to show the side of humans with a defeatist mentality because logically their would be some humans that quit fighting for a lost world. I don't understand why that is so hard to grasp.
100%.
He is the other side of the coin from Mae. The essence behind the survival of the human conscience is to always get back up...like Mae. But than people like Travathan...who see what the world has come to...convince themselves that there is no getting back up.
He's not even a subtle character, he even had a whole talk with Mae to make you understand him.
Now what I don't understand is how the RR couldn't understand something so obvious, but okay.
Just got to that part and Greg literally said defeatist about him
It felt like he barely felt like a character, like most of the other "characters" in this mid ahh movie
@@NK-dt1kpweird take but okay
The scene of Noah crying over his father’s body is so simple but yet got me. The silence, the sniffling, the emotion, the way he just stares with no words and the emotion on his face gets to me
That was the worst scene for me, they don't built a better relationship with the father so is not a real sad scene, is the fault of the bad director.
@@Trofnoker I see your point and can see that, maybe should’ve had the father live longer and die later in the movie or something, maybe even in another movie.
@@Ap-px2hy it was a good time to die, they should have built it before in the movie, the father teach him something, give more knowledge and wisdom, just a few minutes more. But is this the director of Maze Runner, his movies are superficial.
"Apes together strong" Means the apes are stronger together, but Proximus further interpreted that to mean that the more apes he had, the stronger he was, and so rounded up new apes whenever possible.
Throughout the history of religions, predecessors of the Buddha or Jesus have either intentionally twisted their teachings for own personal gains, or unintentionally misinterpreted them because of own biases.
Aren't we thankful for the Reject Nation, WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!
@@EPICMAN_3D Proximus Greg
Aren't we grateful for this reaction?
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!
Such an iconic line. And Kevin Durand nails the part of Proximus Ceasar.
When I heard my fellow Canadian Kevin Durand was in this I was very excited but then I watched the movie and I just thought this wasn't very good the movie just seemed unnecessary
Nova yelling Noahs name was a perfect callback to when Caesar said his first word. The people in my theater cheered when she spoke.
Just wish they didn’t spoil it in the trailer
@@austinlarrimore6542 it was in the trailer?? I'm so glad I stayed away from them because I was already going to be seeing it anyway so I wanted to go in as blind as possible
William H Macy was around to explain what the human world was like for Proximus and build inventions for him. He explained it in his first scene.
He's also a foil to Mae
@@lucasdolding6924 he also made Proximus think Caesar and Julius Caesar were the same person which is why he became such an imperial like leader
Plus, Its William H. freaking Macy, the GOAT!
@@yourbasicninja calling him a “waste of a character” is kind of a weird insult
Too busy pretending he's clever and funny to pay attention.
I love how people are shocked by apes warring other apes, Koba proved that they are not better than humans in this facet, so they are doing what every animal has ever done for billions of years, just on a grander scale like Humans since they are as sentient now. Really enjoyed this reaction its just interesting people dont see the correlations that they are just retreading Human history without great people like Caesar and now Noah around leading the apes to tread a different path through history.
They call them Echos because of the echo sounds that likely precede humans coming through the tunnel to their territory
1. Dawn
2. War
3. Kingdom
4. Rise
I did enjoy Kingdom and can’t wait to see what else is in store. But Dawn will always be my favorite.
Dawn is peak cinema
@@prodigyweeb8986 It’s one of those movies I regret not seeing in theaters.
William H Macy’s Character represents a Human who has accepted that the world is now ape dominant so any attempts to go back to a human dominant world is pointless and he’s right in his own way. Mae is a character who wants things to go back to the human dominant ways which is why she’s hell bent on returning the world to the way things were when apes didn’t talk. An ongoing theme throughout the movies that humans can’t accept a world they are no longer in control with and instead of coexisting and accepting the new world full of apes would rather try to force things to go back to how they were
That's the downside of watching movies in a brightly lit room, all the dark scenes are a struggle
Don’t blame the lighting department when you are surrounded by bright lights!
100% agree, watch it in movie theater or adjust your room lighting.
The night scenes are ALSO pretty dark. Both can be true.
agreed, I've watched AvP Requiem a few times, and this movie has nothing on that
@@alexp601they are fine
1:02:11 It is the exact same doll from the 1968 Planet of the Apes
Yeah I watched the OG’s and the reboots to get ready for Kingdom so not was a cool Easter egg.
I love how Proximus’s first reaction to his guard being shot was “Damn I gotta get me ones of those”.
So director Wes Ball is a massive fan of the game Horizon: Zero Dawn which he used for inspiration for the world. Taking modern day streets and buildings and making them into centuries old ruins that to the characters look almost alien but to us are all to familiar.
That’s vary cool no wonder this gave me Horizon vibes
@@monsterking1973sadly the planned Netflix Horizon show was canceled before it even started because of a toxic show runner. Hopefully someday we get a faithful adaptation.
After playing New Horizon, I got that vibe from the opening scene where they go hunting for the eggs. Then, it really felt like I was reliving the game when they got to the bunker.
Funny enough that’s like the first thing I thought about when the film started lol
I honestly think your screen is the reason for your lighting issues, it looks fine on my tv and in both theaters I saw it in
Yeah I found it odd how much they commented about it when I had no issues.
Another issue is that they have a lot of lighting in that room which makes it harder to see dark elements on the screen. There's a reason theater halls are super dark.
Lol yeah i had no trouble with it.
They sit in a bight ass room with a bunch of lights on them and they expect the brightest nighttime scenes in my opinion other then things like got season 8 darkness only helps the intensity of the part
The VFX teams absolutely killed it on this
What is truly remarkable is how they have made FOUR prequel movies in this franchise so far and NONE have altered the canonical story of the original 1968 movie. They have overwritten some of the later movies canon but not the 1st one, and not really any of the 2nd one. Something else, the original 1968 series took place on the east coast of North America and all this is on the west coast.... this also frees up some the storyline to tell slightly different things.
Didn’t they migrate east in war? Like they were already in San Francisco and in war they are migrating like across a desert looks like. I assumed they went west but then I remembered they were already west so I assumed it was the other way around and they went east
@@austinlarrimore6542 IDK. That is very possible. Then the next question would be, how for east? In Kingdom I was under the impression they were still on the west coast. I'll have to watch closely for clues when the 4K disc is released.
@@box510motorcycles3 idk. Typically as an American when you migrate you think of western migration like in our history so that’s what I assumed until I remembered they were in San Francisco, and assumed then they went east, but it’s just as plausible that they went even more west to like the coast coast of some other part of California

💯💯👍👍
1:02:12 that doll that said mama was the evidence from the very first planet of the apes movie that proves human can speak. And then finding out that the planet crashed in was actually earth.
Rate this Apes sequel out of 10!

A 10 for me because i really didn't expect the Movie to be as good as it was it exceeded my expectations
8 it’s almost as good as Rise but not as good as Dawn and War for me.
♾️/10
The Apes in water effects is crazy
yeah it just passed through i didnt notice the water because it just looked that good, muddy, sandy and realistic
I like that in Raka’s last moment he said together strong. Not apes together strong, only together strong which envelops both apes and humans.
I'm screaming... she's never been there before, this was a save haven for humans from apes, her name is May, the original orangutan was Maurice! Lol
how would that be a safe haven from the apes?? the apes didn't even have access to vehicles and you're telling me they made a whole electrified bunker? No, even thought raka says that apes made a safe haven for humans thats just another example of false history that continues to change.
My guess is that Mae did live in there OR she worked with the humans who had the plans for that bunker hence why she knew that there was a alternative access point.
It was a safe haven from the virus, not the apes.
@@goldfishPACIFIER Not a safe haven from the apes, but a secure bunker from the virus, and the fighting that broke out when the virus got totally out of control. Standard 'government goes underground and waits it out with the intention of coming back and sorting things out once it all blows over' scenario. This bunker apparently wasn't properly supplied and secured for how long the crisis ended up lasting, as the bunker that Mae came from was. Mae was raised in the bunker she brought the drive/encryption key back to in the end. It's possible that Mae's bunker took in some people who evacuated Proximus's bunker which would explain both how they got the location and that there was a secondary entrance.
I’m pretty sure it’s just a doomsday esk government bunker that didn’t get used cuz shit hit the fan too fast to bunker up😂
Proximus Caesar: Are you familiar with the concept of evolution? In their time, humans were capable of many great things. They could fly, like eagles fly. They could speak across oceans. But now, it is our time... and it is my kingdom. We will learn. Apes will learn. I will learn. And I... will conquer.
👏👏👏👏👏
As much as I absolutely love the first trilogy. I fully believe this film stands with them if not above them. I cannot wait to see where Noah's story will go!
Also, huge shout out to Wes Ball, who directed this movie. I now have complete faith that he WILL do The Legend of Zelda film justice.
This movie was phenomenal it completely lived up to my hype and the ending was mind blowing

If i had a nickel for every movie in 2024 that has a tyrannical ape as the main villain, I'd have 2 nickels which isn't much, but weird it happened twice
What is the other one?
@@IMysticCobaltI godzilla x kong
@@lovetrain2701 Ooh yeah thank you I completely forgot about that
26:19 cmon u are serious , Cornelius is chimpanzee, and this ape (Raka) clearly is orangutan 😅
To the complaint of the dark scenes being very hard to see. They absolutely weren't hard to see in the theater. Obviously you're not watching in a theater, and idk what kind of screen Greg has you all watching these films and shows on, but maybe invest on an OLED screen. The extreme darks on an OLED are way more visible. Just a suggestion.
Do you think this installment is better than any of the ones in the prior trilogty?!
No but it’s still a good successor
It’s better than Rise and as good as War and Dawn
No, but still liked it, saw it twice a cinema. Once with my brother in english and once with my cousin and my brother again but in spanish (the only one available at the time)
I went to see this with my mum because nobody else would come with me lol. She hasn’t seen a single one of these films but still loved this one! I think that says a lot lol. I loved it too!
I'm gonna view this the same way I did with kung fu panda movies. There's a complete trilogy, and this is the start of a new story/journey. Top one for me was Dawn.
Greg not getting why Macy was in the movie was funny. ^_^ He is there to teach Proximus book knowledge, to help the apes. Like a scholar. He just accepted his fate and serves Proximus.
Director Wes Bell also made the Maze Runner trilogy. You should watch that. And Ball is also gonna direct The Legend of Zelda movie next. I really like how this movie set things up up for what comes next. We all know humans and apes can't coexist, and I'm nervous to see what the nail in the coffin will be. It'll be something terrible, hopefully something even worse than what Koba did.
Wes Ball is a great director
The Maze Runner is one of the best films of 2014.
john and tara watched the first one but didn’t continue the 2 others after tara got sick
@@jctrill7272 You mean Maze Runner?
I know we need to be able to see you all but it seems like you have a hard time with seeing the movie so maybe there's a good compromise for how much lighting to use for us to see you.
I remember the night scenes being pretty dark, even in the cinema
@@alexp601never had any issues watching it on the home tv with the family, smaller screen, slightly lit room. the movie isn’t the problem in that regard
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAAAAY!!!!!!
I think William h Macy was in the movie to show that Mae was willing to sacrifice a human, for the bigger picture. She was willing to kill one, to save the many. Thus setting her up to betray Noa. Also it shows that Proximus didn’t need just any ol human, he needed Mae specifically
caesar is the GOAT 🥶🔥🐐
Something tells me Wes ball really LOVES directing scenes during the night in his movies, like it is so specifically shot and lit up that it feels so cinematic.
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY
Trevathan is in the movie to showcase the people who assist and help their own captors, even against their own people. He is a representative of the people who will do anything to survive, even working for the downfall of their own by collaborating with the enemy. He has given up all hope of any other existence outside the rule of the Apes, so he does their bidding.
What a wonderful day! What a surprisingly great movie! I'm always slightly worried when they continue or reboot old franchises when they have such amazing or definitive endings, especially a Trilogy as legendary as the Caesar Planet of the Apes trilogy. However, I am very happy to report that I think they took the best approach to continuing a franchise like this by acknowledging and respecting the previous films and have their consequences looming over the world as they continue without them while also carving out their own independent Frontier with their own original characters and ideas for new and exciting unique stories. I could talk about this movie for hours, but I'm going to leave it at that and give this movie an 8.5 out of 10!
In the first movie we hear news about a manned spaceship getting lost in space.
What a Wonderful day
You guys should react to Boy kills world staring Bill Skarsgård, it's really good and awesome fight scenes as well
Upon a second viewing you can see a different mentality in Mae's expression when she sees the primitive humans. And when Rakka asks "Would you like to join them?" Thinking she feels relief. It really shows her sadness and fear of becoming lesser. Such a good misdirection
This man Greg is so hard to impress you go make a movie then
Cornelius is Caesars youngest son that lived, the orangután that was with Caesar was Maurice👍
So excited to see you guys react to this movie! This movie is actually really great! 👍
Does Andrew own a pair of pants???? I need to know lol 😂😂😂😂😂
I hope not😜🤘
Proximus had the human teaching them history, so when asked about Caesar the only Caesar in history books would have been Julius Caesar. Proximus took his teachings to heart
Why so many dislikes?
idk what you guys were watching this on cuz the movie wasn't that dark lol
WHAT A WONDERFUL REACTION!

“Eagles attacking Proximates”
FOR CAESAR!
FOR RAKA!!!
Andrew flash Gordon should get his own action solo movie
I absolutely love this movie because the series as a whole has been close to my heart and I’ve actually always wanted to do Ape mocap. More than that, I graduated in the day the movie released and watched it with my friends …. But we all fell asleep 😭😭
Btw the "Many Generations" later is actually 300 years later
anyone else have to skip past tara singing?? or is it just me? 🤣
I think I’m in the minority:
1. Dawn, 2. Kingdom, 3. War, 4. Rise
i agree, when i was younger i loved rise but as I grew older maaan dawn is just such a nice movie that works on so many dynamics made from rise
Dawn
War
Kingdom
Rise
@@c-hildy that’s the majority- no disrespect- I just wasn’t as enamored with war as I was with kingdom
I love this movie SO much. Second favorite of the modern apes right behind Rise. I ate up their world building like a dog discovering peanut butter. Can’t wait for more!
My boyfriend, myself, and his family went to see this in the theaters, and I was more interested and into the movie than my boyfriend was😂😂
The funny thing is, he loves the trilogy so he was excited to see it, but I was showing all kinds of emotions throughout this film more than he was😂😂
“The one wearing an ‘I’m an Evil Leader’ crown” 😂
My only question is how could you guys not see this in a theater??
im curious on you guys monitor or tv settings because i never had trouble seeing
Greg when he gets chills:👉👈🤚🤞✌️
Im pretty sure that the talking doll and book showing apes in cages were easter eggs for the original Plant of the Apes. If i remember correctly, Charlton Heston's character finds them in a cave towards the end of the movie
back in 2017 after I saw 'War' in Theaters, I felt like the Series should not be Continued after that Trilogy's Ending. but After I saw this Film, My mind Changed. Now I'm Pretty Damn Optimistic about where this New Series could go. Noa had Big Shoes to fill, and He proved Himself to be a Worthy Successor to Caesar.
They had to open the main door to flood the facility with the explosives they set. They went over the whole plan before doing anything
This ones on you guys cus it was very clear on my TV 😂
Rip Proximus ✊🏿
Roka sounded so familiar, and I couldn't figure out who he is...and then I finally figured it out. It's Bortus from The Orville. Peter Macon.
Which...if y'all haven't watched that...please do. Such a fun show.
The point of his character was to teach Proximus and read to him
I'm excited for the eventual remakes of the original Apes trilogy. I hope the end of this trilogy or the start of the next reveals the astronauts that took off in the ship in Rise coming back to Earth hundreds of years later (through a time warp).
I had to google the actor that plays the father because I thought he looked like Ron Perlman too!!😮😅
I was worried I wouldn't be as attached and concerned without Caeser, but I'm so glad I was wrong. This movie was amazing.
There were no lighting issues in the theater. Maybe either raise the brightness on your TV or dim the lights in the room to see better.
Went to the Cinema (for the first time in a decade) because i like the franchise (original + prequels) and it was my first chance seeing a PotA in the Theater.
I think it was ok...If its the first movie of a new Trilogy its bound to be little slower, since its all about character introduction.
This is probably a long shot but:to me there seemed to be a little bit of tension beetween noah and Mae so i predict that we might get some intimacy of some kind in one of the next movies.
30:07 Some films need to be seen with the lights off. But this is definitely not like Alien vs Predator: Requiem 😅
18:42 I need that GIF. 😂
RIP Proximus
One of the best films of the year so far and a worthy sucessor to The Caesar. This film should win Best Visual Effects. Kevin stole the show and Proximo Is The Best Villain Of The Franchise with Koba. Noa And Rocka Are great new characters as well. Can't wait for the sequel and i think Rocka Is Alive
They did it again! It's incredible how they continue to nail this franchise movie after movie. It's more consistent than the MCU ever has been.
Well considering there's over 30 movies from the Mcu, I'd hope this was more consistent
@TheRealZOLO1 I was really only comparing it to the 1st 4 movies of the MCU.
@richardthemagician8991 Well you said "has ever been" so I was considering all of the movies. Also there are multiple movies being made at the same time compared to this being one movie being made at once. Not a fair comparison to consistency. Not to mention the difference in years and directors. I don't mean to sound like a smart guy or anything I just don't think MCU is a fair comparison
@@TheRealZOLO1 and I stand by that. "Has ever been" also includes phase 1.
My statement was also hyperbole. But I think even upon further examination, it's still accurate.
@richardthemagician8991 I mean it is accurate, it is more consistent, but I don't think superhero movies and movies about apes should be compared as there two different things. Mcu doesn't need to be brought up tbh
You should make the lighting in the viewing room less bright if you're having trouble watching darker scenes. Bring it down a bit, we can still see your reactions even if it isn't fully lit like it is now.
Using the baby doll cry from the original was genius
I know there’s no obvious link between Noa and Caesar but I think it was a nice choice making Noa look like him if not for any reason other than to honor him
You guys 🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️🙈🙉🙊…enjoyed it much more than I thought. I hope we get a continuation of this story
This was my favorite in the franchise. Absolutely blown away by the VFX and the emotions displayed each of the apes, even more so than the humans. The direction and plot were well written.
i had high expectations for this movie as someone who constantly watched the trilogy growing up, def not the best of the franchise but still awesome, loved noa and everyone’s acting
the voices in this:
noa is voiced by owen teague. still small roles, known film he was in was it chapter two and played patrick. show wise he was the main lead in the stand.
surprisingly keven durand voices proximus in this.
peter macon is raka. peter main roles is in the orville and from time time he voices preston loyd in family guy.
how did you not see this in theatres???????
All three of you sat there and cheered for the human that killed another human... lied to her saviors at every chance... stood with a gun in her hand when its all over and Noah wants to talk peace. Proximus united the clans... he only killed the leaders who would not submit. Brutal? Yes... but looking at the history of MAN, a very peaceful transition of power. Your PERCEPTION is flawed at virtually every turn...
THIS MOVIE IS 300 YEARS LATER GUYS 👍🏿
Didn't see Raka die... He Will Return
GREG.
W.H. Macey is there so it's not completely unrealistic that Proximus understands the importance of the cave, and at least somewhat maintains an understanding of human technology.
Also, he's there to give the alternative view to Mae's resistance. If you guys really look at it, he may be overly nihilistic but he's not wrong...the normal, human-centric world of the past is GONE.
