im so happy that obsidian can make whatever games they want now without worrying about funding! obsidian is finally gonna fill the fallout shaped hole in our lives!!
Funding is not their problem now because they are part of the Microsoft Family
Lets hope so, if Microsoft can stay away from fidling and micromanaging and truly mean the creative freedom/unlimited budget sales pitch while buying them it might work, the trackrecord concerns me tho (rare, bungee, lionheart, ensemble etc.).
Also with the gamepass becoming more of a thing, they might wanna do netflix style of releasing drivel just so that they add new content constantly and give reason for people to stay subscribed, which doesnt exactly work too well with a 2-3 years dev cycle for a quality AA game, and 3-5 for a AAA.
But i guess we have to wait and see.

Don't you mean giving us the Fallout Bethesda would never allow...?
NV was superior to FO3 in every aspect to story to dialogue options and they only had 18 months
Collin Gambill indeed.
kyotheman69 I wouldn’t say every aspect ... don’t get me wrong New Vegas is my favorite Fallout by a mile but Fallout 3 has the best atmosphere in the series in my opinion ... thank god for Tale of Two Wastelands
Giving us Starfield before bethesda.
Maybe The Outer Worlds is a "multi region open world," kinda like Witcher 3. So for example maybe there are 3-4 "open world maps" that includes 2-3 different planets or Asteroid stations, then a space map you could traverse using your spaceship.
I honestly prefer a rich, detailed , & manually crafted open world maps Instead of monotonous & boring procedurally generated universe/maps.
Croz Raven kinda like Knights of the old republic 2 was
My dream would be having a travel map like fallout 1 & 2 had and then there would be handcrafted open world locations for cities or places of interests. Then random encounters could be randomly procedurally generated maps with certain parameters, like some areas would change the parameters so it makes more rough mountain terrain or more plain areas depending where are you moving in travel map. And if you would run enough far away from the enemies, then you could just go back to travel map with a click of a button.
I love Fallout 1 & 2’s travel maps: they gave those games a great sense of scale. I think a Fallout inspired star map could work wonders for this game; also, it could include cool random encounters like flying into space pirates, merchant vessels, mysterious distress beacons, random outposts, or miscellaneous asteroids/moons/side planets.
It’s like destiny but without micro transactions and is actually good. On top of being from the looks of it better map design
Theres a lot to be appreciated in small detailed areas free to explore over large open expanses.
I'd rather have several deep lakes of content instead of an ocean as deep as a puddle.
This couldn't have come at a better time. Bethesda shoving an unfinished, buggy game that's filled with ridiculous microtransactions and nonexistent story telling (and no NPCs) down our throats, Obsidian delivers a game that SHOULD have been what a Fallout game should aspire to be. Bethesda's going to have to step it up after their recent falling out with their customer base. This just seems like sweet revenge over Bethesda not giving bonuses to Obsidian employees because New Vegas was a few points short on a Metacritic review.
I sincerely hope that this game will provide the competitor needed to force Bethesda to confront the reality of what players want.
It was one point short on the Metacritic review, funny thing is that NV scored higher than FO3.
You missed your opportunity to upper case "FALLing OUT" but I agree on you
Apropos: Obsidian only had 18 months to create a finished New Vegas. & it was still better than FO3, 4 & uuhhh... whatever the fuck you call that 76 bullshit.
"YOU CAN DOOOOO IT!!!" -Rob Schneider
The funny thing is is that I'm pretty sure they were only one point away from there 85 meta critic goal at an 84 yet with all of the rushed development it was still an amazing game
I'm very optimistic about it. Obsidian can deliver a good game ! I liked what I saw from this trailer.

Damn the moment Bethesda realizes they should have started Starfield instead of the greatest game Fallout 76
It's actually good that they are focusing om the awesomeness that is Fallout 76. Starfield coming out this year or next would be released too closely to Outer Worlds, and cannibalize the audience some. Then having some breathing room will be a good thing so we can explore the nuance of both games.

I should be surprised if they manage to disappoint anyone who played Fallout 3-4. Bethesda managed to lower the bar considerably, so a ground texture that doesn't look like 2005 caught a bad burrito would be sure to excite already.

I am cautiously optimistic for this game. While I liked New Vegas, there were quality of life issues I had such as gunplay without VATS was not great and a lack of sprint made travel at times boring. If they can fix some of the quality of life issues I had for Vegas, sign me up.
In FO:NV Obsidian was restrained by using the gamebryo engine which in itself has plenty of issues with aiming mechanics. This is certainly is a new engine altogether.
RyuDaBurninator don’t forget Bethesda gave Obsidian a year and a half to make the game
That was the engine limitations you really think they won't make the gameplay better lol the gameplay should be good
Gunplay already looks on par if not better than Fallout 4's. I just wish that the gunplay _animations_ are tied to the weapon skills. Where how well you shoot, reload, aim, etc is determined by how much skill you have for that weapon type. While damage is determined largely by ammo type used.
Sprint is basically a requirement for open world games, nowadays.
NV was basically a fallout 3 reskin that Obsidian had to make very quickly, and it's still to this day the best fallout game in my opinion. I agree with you about NV's problems, but look at it this way: they took the tools at their disposal, being gamebryo and FO3 assets, and made a game that was miles better in almost every way than FO3 just by making better characters, better storylines, and adding a few mechanics (weapon attachments, Aim-down-sights, factions, and greater item/weapon/enemy variety). I have no doubt that this dev team is capable of putting out a much better game than NV given the opportunity.
This actually brings back my hope in games in the future
the nice thing is since Microsoft bought them out they have more funding to make their games better so then they're not limited in what they can make so I'm really excited for this game
It sucks that a lot of publishers would give Obsidian a difficult time for making games. Thank goodness Microsoft is treating Obsidian amazingly.
I don’t think this game is being funded by MSFT. This game was in development before the buyout. Now games after this one will be backed by MSFT.
I'm glad I haven't pre-ordered Fallout 76, now I can wait for this genuine new Fallout.
At this point I'd let Bethesda go
That trailer alone has more story progression and character development than all of Fallout 76 combined.
Granted, that's a pretty low bar to step over, but it already makes it promising. And it looks right up my alley, so I'm excited for it!
Im sorry this is a MUST BUY FOR ME !
You nailed it “Hal-cee-on.”
i DO hope this can be expanded into a WHOLE new IP franchise. depending on the TT deal that may or may not be possible but DAMN this looks promising. one thing im hoping for is that it IS propper open world (2 main hubs for the planets plus the space area) but even MORE so than that is modding. obsidian should know just how big modding is in the fallout fanbase and given that they appear to be the primary target audience it would be foolish NOT to support it. given the use of UE4, it could be fairly easy to create large scale mods for the game with relatively little effort (compared to the CK) and loading the custom content would be the biggest hurdle there
Obsidain knows, in fact Josh Sawyer that was heavily involved with developing NV created a mod for it that makes NV more of how he wanted to develop it.
This is what we need thank you in advance obsidian. Take your time and make a great game
Let’s goooooooo!!!
Borderlands + New Vegas + Mass Effect 2 = The Outer Worlds. Couldn't have asked for a better Corporate Equation than this! 🤑
Biggest question though.... Mod Support. Only then can Obsidian slay Bethesda.
Who Knows It probably won’t require so many mods anyway, it isn’t being built on an engine that’s legally old enough to smoke and drink.
@@radiantgradient3167 ... Mods aren't about what you need. It's about what you want. It's about infinite potential. Have a stray thought? Search it on the Nexus and it's probably a Skyrim or Fallout mod.
Who Knows I understand that, I use nexus all the time. But most of the time the mods I’m getting are things that should’ve been in the game to start with. Hopefully this game is detailed enough and made well enough that my desire for modding is minimal. They haven’t mentioned mods either way yet, but I’m not as worried about it.
Who Knows Also to add to that, when it comes to Bethesda, mods are definitely about what you need. Go back and try playing vanilla Skyrim or Fallout 3/4. Tell me how long before you have to call a suicide hotline
You don't need mod support if the game is good Bethesda games are only worth playing with mods without it their games are piece of shit since they have a shit engine and other companies don't require mod support since their engine is great enough to create good or great games
This looks really... good
So, Borderlands, but Art Deco? Fine by me.
So psyched about this game, Bethesda dropped the ball, I love that they got some serious competition, Todd Howard talking about less is more, dumbing down their games over time. Hopefully this will prove what mistakes Bethesda has made. I think Obsidian will get this right I pray this has a New Vegas feel in space, lots of dialogue options, great story, tons of loot, and customization, and a plethora of creature features, oooh this is going to be epic, I can feel it.
So obsian made the best Fallout fps and now they made a fps sci fi falloutish looking game without the contraint of bethesda is it too soon to call it a fallout killer...

So, while I am eagerly waiting for more info on this game, I just don't want to get too excited after being profoundly disappointed by Bethesda's latest offering. Please Obsidian, don't break my heart.
Exactly, why judge Obsidian for other companies sins.
P.S. You can always cancel your preorder, I sure as hell did for FO76.
Thing is, with MS now being the financial backing for Obsidian, they won't need preorders to ensure a solid experience at release. This game could totally suck, but it's a lot less likely with the talent, and now money, that Obsidian has at its disposal.
Honestly, preorders aren't a good thing. It shows developers that you're willing to throw money at them without seeing the end product, which then gives them the idea that the end product isn't even important. I mean, Bethesda surely couldn't have placed any real value on FO76. Otherwise, they wouldn't have released it in the state that it's in... which is littered with infinitely more bugs than content, sadly.

The smaller scale tends towards deeper details and more handcrafted unique environments without putting you on rails the whole time.
One particular advantage I noted over say fallout or skyrim open style.
True scale. Think of the "cities" in skyrim and compare them to a single district of Prague in deus ex...one feels genuine, expansive even I you don't see all of it.
The other feels small, empty lacking the features that would make it feel like a genuine city.
@Any Rebel I did get a distinct feeing that perhaps Diamond city had been intended to be more.
The ammount of space within the stands that went unused felt conspicuously empty.
This might be a hardware limitation for stable running on xbox/PS
Perhaps much like Prague havig sepearte districts, the approach of the new Vegas strip/Free side/West Side being separated sub zones was irritating due to loading doors, but it did achieve a sense of scale for the populated area of Prague and Vegas that I just didn't feel for Diamond City, Megaton/Rivet City or even the Hold capitols of Skyrim.
Game informer had a small gameplay demo on their channel. Like New Vegas it seems we have a faction system as the madame cleo Corp people call you the board's darling.
Every situation can be talked out of, intimidated and shot up and stats seem to effect various interactions. You also can have partners that can stand in on the skills you lack like conversation so you are not always completely locked out of an option if you yourself lack the skills.
In essence it's new Vegas in space
It’s very nice to see that Bethesda has competition that is competent. So excited for this game as much as CD Project Red’s next game.
cyberpunk
I’m hoping there’s a version of anti-material rifle from Fallout New Vegas that was my fav gun
It should be called “Spaced out” New Vega
I watched the trailer, and the mad scientist fellow reminded me of Doc from Back to the Future.
Basically he seems to be a zany mad scientist, and the hairstyle looks pretty accurate.
Red Dead Redemption 2 should've been game of the year🤠
#Outlaws For Life
i agree i’m surprised about god of war
I am not suprised. Personally i prefer GoW too.
@SMAV Emerson shitty fortnite won.
Not with that online economy
@SMAV Emerson fortnite wasn't even a nomine
I am so excited for this game and hear that it was obsidian it is doing it made me even more glad. Especially since New Vegas is my absolute favorite Fallout series the DLC of Fallout Vegas were phenomenal.
I'm still mad that there was no Harry Potter Rpg reveal...
Yeah but at least we know it’s coming so I’m all good with it
Unique weapons would be amazing. Searching for those unique weapons was one of my favorite things to do in fallout new vegas
Too bad it's strictly FPP. They should give both options of 3PP and FPP to broaden the player base. I'm not a fan of FPS games because I like being able to see the character I'm playing. I just feel like game developers are missing out on a shit ton of players like me who really only play 3rd person games.
Haans Olo I think it’ll be like fallout and elder scrolls in that regard. There’s plenty of shots in the trailer of men wearing masks or helmets, obviously at least one of them is meant to be the player character. They don’t show off a face or a voice because you’re supposed to be able to project yourself (or whoever you’re role playing as) onto that character. Plus, it would be stupid to give you the option to wear different pieces of apparel but not let you see yourself.
Though call of duty sells millions of copies easily and it's fps don't mistake it I myself am a third person player but come on the fps market is huge
@@radiantgradient3167 not stupid according to cdpr
Dranzer Jetli well fuck them then. They’re stupid.
@@radiantgradient3167 They are not, that is why they chose first person in the first place. Besides, there are plenty of ways to look at your charakter without having to implement a full on 3rd person mode.
This is going to be the best game upcoming. Tim Cain. Leonard Boyarsky. I’m so excited for this.
Truly I don’t care if it’s open world or not. Traits, perks, skills, companions, broad skill based dialogue trees. Great Scott! The original Mass Effect trilogy isn’t open world and they are beyond amazing.
