It’s why he’s such a genius and shows how talented he is. Anyone can make parodies of something and have it be really mean spirited, but Al has always had the utmost respect for the artists that he has parodied
Actually some were selling quilts across the street from where I used to work. I played the song for them when they came in to get a drink. They loved it.
he actually learned to sing that specific part backwards, not just lipsync it. there's a making of video where he does it and if you reverse the audio, it's the song.
@@countbleck35 Absolutely correct! I believe it's the same documentary where he speaks of first doing his own parodies recorded simply on cassette tapes and talks about his accordion playing to some extent.
Did you guys catch the lyrics from Gilligan's Island Theme in here? "No phone, no lights, no motor car, Not a single luxury, Like Robinson Crusoe, It's primitive as can be."
FUN FACT: WEIRD AL actually lip synched for the video in reverse where he gets up from the hay puts on his hat, e.t.c. Now that's commitment and the man is a lyrical genius. Don't believe me, watch very carefully and remember that video is actually playing in reverse. Still don't believe me. Look it up, WEIRD AL will tell you himself in interview about video.
While walking backwards too. You can tell there's something that's not right about his walking motions towards the camera, because he's actually walking away from it.
There is always more going on in a Weird Al video than you think. - Milking the cow directly into a bowl of cereal - Feeding the chickens pizza - The guy had a sundial wristwatch - but the fellow in the background was practicing his golf swing. - Send off of "Gilligan's Island" - Florence Henderson (the mom from the Brady Bunch) was in there etc. Watch his video, "Bob", and figure out how every line in the song is related. Parody of Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues".
I've been an Al fan since his Dr. Demento days when his band consisted of just him and his accordion... and yes he did appropriate part of the Guilligan's Island theme song.
A radio dj in my home town got fired from his job by locking himself in the booth and playing this song for 4 hours straight when it came out... This was in york/lancaster pa
You should definitely do 'Smells like Nirvana.' The best way to watch a Weird Al video is to watch the video he is making of a parody of first as it is not just the song he is having fun with. He parodies the video too. I once watched Beat it and Eat it side by side and it was amazing just how accurate the video was to MJ's video.
If this is your 1st Weird Al parody, you just unlocked another rabbit hole if you want it. Weird Al is a friggin classic. He has so many great parodies over the years. Look up some of his most popular videos.
Party till at 1699 refers to prince because prince wouldn’t let weird Al do some parodies of princes stuff so that refers to princes lets party till it’s 1999
Check out his older material: Another One Rides The Bus, I Love Rocky Road, Hey Ricky, Eat It, Fat, Living With A Hernia, Girls Just Want to Have Lunch, Yoda, and many more.
One of my absolute faves of Wierd Al parody songs. FYI - that last scene with the horse & buggy going backward, he did that take with him singing backward, walking backward, to capture that clip. Pretty talented if you ask me. Also, for those that don't know he pretty much does it all; conception, inception, sings, dances, plays all the instruments, choreographs, directs, edits, and publishes about 90% of his own work. Quite literally & metaphorically speaking; a One-man band. I love the fact that he's been doing this since the 80s, kept up with technology & the times so that even now, the younger gens that never heard of him, are able to witness his genius level of creativity & artistry.
It's a mark of success to be parodied by him. Madonna insisted on being in the "Like a Surgeon" video and Dire Straights even recorded the music for one of his!❤
I'm so glad people are FINALLY recognising the genius that is Al Yankovich!! His comedic timing is PERFECTION, his ability to write parody lyrics that are hilarious yet still make sense and pack serious flow is unmatched, and he's literally made a whole ass successful career out of if.
Prince and Paul McCartney were just a few that DENIED him doing a parody...Weird All wanted to parody 1999 But notice how Weird Al snuck in "Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1699". Paul wouldn't let him parody a song due to him and Linda not consuming animal flesh. Al also wrote a parody of Michael Jackson's song "Black or White" titled "Snack All Night"; historically, Jackson had been enthusiastic about Al's parodies of his songs, but refused permission in this case because the regarded the subject matter of the original song as being too important to parody.
For the most part, the Amish community won't see this video but it was so good! Weird Al intends to make us laugh so LAUGH and don't feel bad. He is a master of his craft. He's been around forever. Check out "lost on jeopardy" and "first world problems" and everything in between
Weird Al is both enormously prolific & talented. He has parodied Em & Em, Lady Gaga, Prince, Michael Jackson, Spider-Man, Star Wars, Madonna & a TON of others
If you haven't seen "Living With a Hernia" yet, you need to. It's a parody of James Brown's "Living In America." Also: "Hardware Store" (an original, not a parody) if you want to hear some rapping that is on par with or surpassing Eminem's verbal agility. Check both out.
The lady that plys the part originated by Michelle Pfeiffer in the original, is Florence Henderson. She was Mrs. Brady in the Brady Bunch tv show from the 70s
Weird Al - Trapped in the Drive Thru (R. Kelly - Trapped in the Closer Parody) Just subbed bc of this and I think you'll love that track it's also very well put together.

Weird Al was asked one time why he didn't record regular songs because he really is a good singer and he said there are a lot of singers doing regular songs but not too many people does what he does and he's happy with it

She had her accordion and an attitude. 😂 Seth Green had all those cherry action figures because he started Robot Chicken on Comedy Central. Stop motion brilliance. My faves were a complicated Star Wars battle scene and the stormtrooper caught on the toilet reading a "magazine " and the Strawberry Shortcake parody Bitch Pudding. At first Coolio said no to Wierd Al doing this parody and thought that Wierd Al was dissing his song and Wierd Al released it anyway and then Coolio saw that Wierd Al's song gave Coolio such a huge boost to his sales and later said that he regretted some of the things he said about Wierd Al

Two Sherwood Shwartz references in this. The Gilligans Island them and Florence Henderson AKA Mrs Brady as the Amish woman.
