The whole “take a sec and decide if u wanna still be one of us” is def Amish, one of my friend’s dad grew up Amish and decided to go away, he is either a psychologist or psychiatrist now but has this awesome pic of a bunch of Amish guys flipping off a camera
The ending of this video doesn't get enough credit he had to walk backwards and sing the song in reverse so when they played back he was walking forward singing the words correctly
Lyrics of "No phone, no car, not a single luxury, like Robinson Crusoe it's as primitive as can be" is the same words as the closing song on 'Gilligan's Island'.!!!
the part where he says "there's no phone, no lights no motor car, not a single luxury etc.. that whole sequence was from the gilligans island theme song and honestly it works for this song too lol
We used to live in the middle of an Amish community.we had so many Amish neighbors.my mother bought a van so she could do long distance driving for them, like when they needed to go farther than their horse and buggy can safely travel.they do have as many children as physically possible.the largest family I knew of had 19 kids!
The Amish do avoid most technology, but these days there is no avoiding all of it. For example, the Amish business owners who make furniture or other things will use gasoline and machinery to help and also even have smart phones in order to help them do business. They still don't use it nonstop like the rest of us.
Amish WILL use modern tech if they are employed by an "English" factory. Most "Amish" furniture is made in factories with modern tools and technology, but just using Amish employees. "Amish" built most often just means an Amish employee built it, not that they used hand tools to build the product...
@@ffjsb Still, there's a level of quality associated with "Amish Made". As I understand it, Amish people won't offer anything (or even allow something to be advertised with their "name" associated with it) if it's not of the highest quality. I've worked around Menanites as well as Amish people, and while you really need to stand down-wind of them, the work they do is absolutely top notch. If I needed to hire someone for any sort of construction work, they would be the first I'd call upon. Smell or no smell, their work ethic offsets that.
@IggyStardust1967 I agree, their work ethic is just outstanding. I live in a small town that's surrounded by Amish communities. A neighbor across the street hired the Amish's roofing company. They showed up with like 20 people and had the shingles tore off and reshingled in literally just over 6 hours. Quality was awesome.😁
I love how all the reaction channels to this video miss the "Gilligan's Island " theme in the middle as the buggy with the "how's my driving" sticker moves forward, I guess I'm sooo old as to get the cultural reference
Yes I got it immediately, I think most of the reactors are too young and have never seen the "Gilligan's Island" show or heard it's theme song, which Weird Al incorporated into his parody.
As an ex amish person I would say the chances of you being allowed to live with amish family for a week who will allowed you to record them are slim but not impossible. Most of comments about Amish using technology is true.
Al is the parody goat. Lovin the reactions to Al. I’m a day 1 fan of Al since he recorded his first parody in the me ‘s bathroom in college. He recorded there because it had the best acoustics. ✌🏽
You have to watch the Coolio version of this song (thus the braids) and the sweating when he sings on the side. I died laughing because you have to know the original.....yeah now you should research the Amish. That's the Amish...they are allowed to leave at age 16, many end up pregnant, on drugs etc. The kids go crazy because they have never experienced alcohol etc and all the other fun stuff. But about 90% end up going back to their community in the end. You can see them on UA-cam. Rumsprunge i think it's called. Peace from Canada.
I would compare the Amish with the Mennonites. Traditional believers always wear plain clothing without buttons. Women always cover their hair. Grew up in a Mennonite area. They can marry between the sects. Mormons are the ones who used to have multiple wives. They wear regular clothes and live modern. I had LDS (Latter Day Saint) friends growing up.
All different levels or secs of amish. Some have cars and electronics but are restricted from many things on the internet . Others dont use any electric, and others have electric but its solar and batteries. Oh some amish dont want to be on camera and others don't care. The barn scene was done in 1 take and that was a real giant frame they dropped and that was him standing there the entire time.
As a non-mormon, in utah, i can tell you mormons do not shy away from tech. They fucking LOVE tech, plus mormons here love to play the 'keeping up with the joneses' game a lot lol
It's already been said both in comments and the video but yeah. Amish in specific are the ones who generally avoid technology. I'm originally from PA and lived about an hour out from Lancaster (shown in the video). It's one of the biggest Amish populations throughout the country as far as I know. You go there and see all sorts of horse and buggies and stuff. It's actually really cool to see imo
The Mennonietes are a little more modern. They can drive cars (the men) and use phones. Amish use this if they have a alarming situation. In that case they use the phone of Mennonietes or even take a lift.
My great grandma was born Amish. It's not that they are really against technology, because they still have to use it. They all have to use batteries for the lights on the horse and buggies. A lot have boomboxes that play music, which need batteries. Most Amish communities have one television and one telephone for emergency purposes. The television for the weather and a phone to call 911. They will even use it to order pizza. It is more based on a vote, at their city hall type meetings. If they agree to something then they will use it. And Amish people do fight and they usually win, but I think that is more grade school and high school. I don't think the adults do as much, but I have seen a lot of kids pick fights with Amish kids, and then watch them get their butts kicked. It's hard for a normal school kid to beat up a kid, that probably woke up at 4:30 in the morning doing farm chores. The Amish kids in school were not allowed to watch movies when we had movie day, but not because it was television, it's that they believe movies and shows are not good to watch. They would have to leave the classroom, but they didn't have to leave the classroom because the lights were on, or because the teacher used an overhead projector.
