    Fucking gout ruined my life! I was pretty athletic and active growing up and it put me in a sense of complacency on my diet and overall lifestyle practices. One day inexplicable pains started appearing at various joints in my body that I thought would go away…it didn’t. Some grew Tophis. Now I can run nor Jump amd can only do oldman workouts. Take care of yourself, folks.

    The quickest way for me is to cut back on foods with high purine content. Sometimes fasting for one, two, or three days while taking a half a teaspoon of baking soda mixed in water every day. For a pain reliever, I take 600 to 800 mg of alleve.

    Your plant food contains oxalates (Google "the dangers of oxalates) and these crystals get into your joints and act just like shards of glass. You need the fatty acids from meat to heal the joints and tissues. I was on methotrexate and Prednisone for my RA and gout, and another autoimmune disease. After 1 year I switched to keto and got off Prednisone, another year and I discovered the dangers of oxalates and ate just red meat and was off methotrexate in 30 days. That was over 3 years ago, no symptoms of flares since. I feel better now at 67 than I did at 47.

      Same here Richard, for me gout was triggered by Glucose, Fructose, and high carbs, everything else was fine. Increase carbs would increase insulin production which would impair kidney excretion. I too am on keto/carnivorish diet which keeps my insulin low

    • @koalanotbear
      @koalanotbear 3 роки тому +3

      @@kopronko In your case, the red wine is the culprit! Although alcohol doesn't contain protein but sadly it is a well-known trigger for gout flare-up. When alcohol enters your body, it gets metabolized into 'acetaldehyde', then this causes the accumulation of 'lactate' in the blood, which in turn causes a decrease of 'uric acid' excretion by the kidneys. Our body then react to this 'uric acid' accumulation by triggering gout flare-ups. I, too, get the flare-ups after about 4-5 glasses of wine, sometimes less if I didn't drink lots of water during the day. You and I have the sane problem because our body cannot handle 'uric acid' well enough. Others are not so unlucky. My advice is to drink at least 2 full glasses of water immediately after you drink any type of alcohol, and then another 2 full glasses an hour later, to decrease the concentration of uric acid in the blood. If you pee a lot, then that's a good sign, but you also have to drink more water. Also, for vegetarians, try eating less protein-rich vegetables and nuts during the flare-ups. For us, water is our best friend. Good luck!

    I asked my GP about whether I should keep taking Metoprolol, as my gout attack was far longer than usual and moved from one foot to the other in rapid succession. The GP said that there was no mention in her system of Metoprolol increasing uric acid or the risk of gout. However, this contradicts the information presented in your article "Gout and the Anti-hypertensives" where beta blockers(such as Metoprolol) were said to increase the risk of gout by 48% in patients, such as myself, that have hypertension. I would add that it also appears to prolong the attack. Can calcium channel blockers be safely used as a substitute for beta blockers?
