    Track the speed with a gps or phone app. Gearing it down or up throws off the speedometer.

    when you changed the gearing it changed the accuracy of the speedometer. you might need to GPS it to see how far off your speedo is now. i bet it not faster. its just quicker through the gears

      @@TimeMachinesATVs BTW... i forgot to mention that once you change out your sprocket, regardless if its just the front or front/back... your speedo wont rrad accurately anymore (alot of times itll be 4-7mph off what it really is... or more). That's why when people change their sprocket...they end up having to use their gps on their phones to get a better reading (not the most accurate but way more accurate than the speedo will read). I know you prolly already knew this but just a friendly reminder if you fo3got! All in all... thanks for the vid and looking forward to more!

    I'm surprised you got it that fast stock.. They definitely had to have given the engine an extra hp or 2. My 2020 with +3 rear sprocket, tunable ecu, ram air intake and cheap exhaust tops out at 73mph downhill.. At 6'2" 205lb I can put on the cruise control bungee and no hand cruise at 56mph+ depending on wind. On these underpowered bikes going for typically acceleration heavy sprocket setups help them get up to a more decent speed. Before I modded my grom I was lucky to get over 45mph.

    • @TimeMachinesATVs
      @TimeMachinesATVs  2 роки тому

      Because these are much more reliable as is. Dont need more power. Or top end speed. Or a 7$ sprocket makes the most sense unless you just wanna flex nuts on people for no reason.

    • @Image-X
      @Image-X 2 роки тому

      @@TimeMachinesATVs The reliability is all the same with an intake, exhaust, and a tune. The bike runs better, stronger, cooler, and the power to gearing ratio is as should be. You were complaining about 5th gear, weren’t you? Choosing to neuter the bike instead doesn’t seem to be the smartest move. Cheapest maybe but that’s the only benefit. Don’t wanna go 70mph? Nice video!
    I would HIGHLY suggest doing a different change over. Stock is 15f/38b ~2.5333. If you want the top speed, instead of going up to the 16f/38b ~2.375 or 17f/38b ~2.2353 go with a 13f/31b ~2.3846 or 14f/31b ~2.2142. What this does is it drastically decreases the radius of the rear sprocket and also eliminates a bunch of extra mass out of it from the stock sprocket. Not to mention you decrease the chain link by 4 links. All of this reduces the rotational mass of the drivetrain which will give you a slightly bit more torque to the wheel because it’s not given up to just spinning the drivetrain mass. But this also gives you a taller gear stack at the same time. Personally I like it much better for cruising around town specially because 1st gear is so dang short in the stock set up.
    I’m 210lbs without gear. Just FYI and I GPS’d my top speed at 70mph. You have to remember though the Speedo sensor is in the trans so if you want your dash to read right you have to get the speedo healer. If you do the higher gear ratio (14f/38b) your odometer will read you stacking on miles faster than you actually are. And if you do the lower gear ratio you will drive more miles than the odometer actually reads.
    But if you want to be able to get up to the higher speeds you have to be able to use fifth gear in its torque and power band 5500-9000rpm. But to do that you have to use ALL of 4th gear. Like really pin 4th gear to the top so when you shift into 5th gear you’re RPMs are still high enough to be able to use the power/torque band of the engine at those tops speeds. With the change over I did to the higher speed gear change I can cruise around all day at 55-65 and still have quite a bit of “pull” to accelerate because it’s in the power band of the engine.
    What Honda did with the 5th gear is they really made it an overspeed gear. If I remember correctly Honda made 1st gear really short so the junk from 1st to 2nd is small, but then the jump from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th is pretty normal to the old groms. But then the jump from 4th to 5th is really large. Honda was trying to give the higher speeds with a lower rpm, because everyone had to just red line 4th in the old ones, but do it without sacrificing the classical grom “shoot around town” feel to it at the low end.
