Hands on with the $5,000 Laugo Alien Pistol At Range Day [SHOT Show 2020]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 сер 2024
- James Reeves speaks with the people at Laugo and Lancer about the upcoming Laugo Alien at Range Day for SHOT Show 2020. Per Nick C. of TFB:
"You may have heard of Laugo Arms. They are the ones who designed the CZ Scorpion Evo 3 and sold it to Česká zbrojovka aka CZ. They have been teasing photos of the Laugo Arms Alien pistol. It has such a different approach and they are clearly going after the competition market with this offering.
From the side, the pistols just looks like any ordinary handgun with some wild looking slide cuts. But once you look at it from the front you immediately notice something different. The barrel is firmly seated in the frame and not the slide. Does this remind you of anything?
This results in a reduction of muzzle climb. It is simple physics. The higher the bore the more muzzle climb. According to Recoil Magazine: ” Laugo touts the Alien as having the lowest bore axis of any pistol in the world.” However, there is another pistol that has a lower bore axis. The TDI Vector prototype and the KRISS Vector pistol both have lower bore axes. In fact, the TDI prototype bore axis is far below the trigger. Whereas the Vector has the bore axis in line with the trigger.
But the Laugo Arms Alien is not just a semi-auto handgun with a low bore axis. It features a quick change top rail. Allowing shooters to switch from iron sights to an optic setup within seconds.
Did you notice how the sights are fixed? They do not reciprocate with the slide. This is something you typically see in competition handguns in the Limited Division. And you usually see it as a sight tracker on 2011 handguns. By having the front sight mounted to the barrel, you achieve weight reduction in the slide which aids in reducing recoil and muzzle climb. And if you are a competent shooter, your front sight should not move and you have faster follow up shots. Most running and gunning competitions like 3Gun and USPSA require two rounds on paper targets."

So basically the Alien gun comes with "Out of this world prices"
Some would say they're astronomical
Exactly! It it it gotta be! In the words of Mr. James!
GOOD ONE.....................................
@@SlingbladeJim I'm glad somebody else watches Mr. James as the sugar daddy!
that was in the damn thumbnail, don't give him credit for this lol
Later on Forgotten Weapons , the " Laugo Alien "!
Funny enough, inRangeTV is already covering it. So if we wait a few years Ian and Carl can just reuse that footage for their Forgotten Weapons Channel.
@@themidnightanimal1555 but, this Rogak will live on!
“It was a really clever design, but they charged too much for it and it went out of production”
Lol😂😂😂
88 Magnum - LMFAO! Honestly, the pistol has some great features but the price will prevent the Alien from ever becoming a popular pistol.
James is like 'I'll shoot it "
"But I'm not buying"
That's exactly what I would say! 😅
I'm pretty sure he's not paying full retail if he did decide too. Then again, what do I know. 🤔
Eugene Stoner being able to afford it never directly equate to purchase justification
I knoe that shit right!
Eugene Stoner No he just made a valid statement. Just because you have the money to buy it doesn’t mean you’ll actually buy it.
For $5k I better also get the edge of the precious
Taran approves.
Well played.
One alien or +10 glocks?
For $5k it better have at least a cup holder and grease pool for that price
It better be able to do several unmentionable acts and be making me a sandwich while I am typing this
Kel tec is gonna rip off this design an start whipping these out for 499 a piece. Just watch. there going to call it the beached whale.
Nah it will be PSA
kel tec has some pretty good stuff coming out this year
$499 is better than this overpriced POS
@@michaelglenn2468 psa will do it better.
$5000 is way too much for a pistol.
I figure Ruger will rip it off like they did with the five seven
$5000 dollars, to quote Chris Rock “good lord that’s a lot of money”.
That's for the collector's edition, though. They didn't even mention what or when it would sell as the standard consumer version.
That is a good pistol, a good rifle and a good shotgun + spare ammo money ...
*Laughs in 7.5 FK BRNO*
"How 'bout you just give me 10 Glocks and call it good"
Chris Rock then says, "You break a hundred?"
6:46 Sounds like even the rep threw up a little in his mouth after trying to nonchalantly say "it's 5 grand".
Yes, however, really, really expensive high quality guns (like "Korth" which IIRC is around 3'500) are not unheard of, there obviously is a niche market for them. The only question really is - how big is that niche?
@@TotalRookie_LV I mean, I wouldn't expect a firearm with low production numbers, importation regulations and what sounds like many years of R&D _not_ to include those things in its price tag. I hope they sell out, and I'm sure they will. Hopefully this design can viably be optimized for cost.
As far as i know, this is a collector's edition. 500 only, to see if it works, i mean, they did that in europe and it sold out quickly
@@user-pq9gy3fq1q I checked their sight earlier this week, they are sold out....
We don’t care about a signature. We want an affordable gun.
TheDoonzman ooohhhh
If the quality were there I'd almost be more interested in it without the signature at all. Ignoring price for a second if this is only a limited edition run that is pretty disappointing. Someone who can actually bring large scale production to market will hopefully make something similar soon.
Somarik Green am I to understand that they are only making a single run of 500 of these and that’s it? Seems like a waste of time and effort. I’d gladly pay $2000+ for this and 3 mags setup for me to mount an rmr on. Or even $2500-$3000 setup. I don’t need the commemorations on the piece. It would be nice but then for me it would just end up sitting in a safe and never used.
@@DestroyER82 Exactly - or a Ruger or a zillion guns out there around $500 or even less. They all shoot. HOW they shoot is the difference between a $500 gun and a 5K gun. You can buy a Honda Accord for 35K or a Ferrari for 350K. They will both get you from point A to point B. Is it the same ride?
@@PierreKerbage Exactly, I have mentioned it few times, its Ferarri of firearms... Laugo is small company here in Prague, just a few people working on it. Pistols are waiting list only and every piece they make is sold already. And they dont really care about budget market, if you want budget gun, just get Glock or whatever. :)
Can't wait to see that in the new John Wick movie
Ricardo Justiniano yea with no recoil and atom dispersement
@Annoying Magpie i think you need to relax pal, everyone thinks that dogs and women are cool.
You have PSTD from an attack with a leftist of something?
@Annoying Magpie that dog scene was so confusing. It was way too long and I didn't see the point of Halle Barry's character
"It makes sense", but price doesn't make sense
Ill take a cz shadow 2 at 1/5 the price of this all day everyday. For 5K, I'm expecting a laser pistol as a new design.
Vanguard784 in the 40 watt range?
I was thinking plasma... but yeah. lol
And a TSO with still thousands in my pocket.
@@TheCenturion8404 hey only what you see pal
You can hear James gag after hearing the price
I need them to lose a zero off the price tag.
I cant see 5000 dollars worth of innovation, hand fitting or exotic materials. So what gives?? This thing is like charging 5k for a glock or even an HK. I see 5000 dollar custom 2011 and i can respect the high levels of fit and finish as well as a pound and a half crisp trigger and world class magazines...this is a canik for those who suck at math.
Mr. Mixy I honestly thought he meant to say 500 and just messed up in saying 5000. But they never corrected it. That blows my mind
@@paulbarclay4114 But where is the innovation in a 1911 gun? Nearly the same design for 100+ years. Go online and look up the price of a Sig P226 X6. You would be lucky to find it for 5K. STI sells 2011 guns today for about 8 to 10K - so if a gun is not a Glock for $500, it's not worth of mention any longer? Mercedes sells cars for $175,000 and not having many problems - yet a Toyota Corolla would sell for 35K. All I am trying to say is that there is room for innovation and that is worth $. Is it worth 5K? Not sure.
@@paulbarclay4114 I totally agree. You nailed it 100%. I have no issue with the 5K, but they should have spent a bit more time talking about the STABILITY of the company. What I do have a problem, is spending even 1K and then seeing the company exit because they don't have enough clients to have sustainable growth. Also, if they don't sell a lot, will we see a lot of support from 3rd party add-on manufacturers? Perhaps I don't like the included holster. Will the 3rd party manufacturers spend the money knowing that there are so few of those? Did the strategy to launch with a "signed" limited product and sell at a higher dollar per ticket a good decision? Time will tell. I love the gun - I may go ahead and order it today in fact. I would not be telling the truth if I am not saying, I am taking a chance. We heard nothing about how well capitalized the company is. This would have made us feel a lot better. Just a thought.
The only pistol to ever hold too much zero.
I watch this video and I'm immediately reminded of the Hudson H9. A wonderful idea for a comp pistol, but too expensive for the vast majority of shooters.
If the developers want to see a few of these, they're headed in the right direction, if they want to sell a shit-ton, get the price down.
The issue with the Hudson H9 wasn't just price. It really wasn't that expensive, and it certainly wasn't geared towards competitive shooters.
You can say 5k is way too much til the cows come home, but the fact of the matter is Professional (and even amateur competitive shooters) already buy custom 2011's for 3k-4k. Then get custom work done on top of that. Then there's the Czechmate which is 3.5k. same story, people buy it and then get custom work on top of that. Go to a USPSA match, look at what these guys are shooting.
The H9 is nowhere near as advanced as the Alien. Also, we have yet to see the non-special edition whih lancer says will eventually come. The price point on those may not be as high.
@@CharlieMikeNS Yeah the people commenting really don't understand guns and prices in the market. They look at mass manufactured ARs and Glocks that have been around for decades upon decades and long since recouped their R&D costs and think that's how everything new should be priced to compete with them. This isn't meant for the average shooter. Of course $5000 is a lot even for a race gun, but it isn't a race gun designed around a hundred year old Browning design so there is some logic to it.
@@chadington6029 Yeah, I'm not gonna buy it, but there's a lot of idiocy in the comment section. It's a bit niche, but it fill that niche very nicely.
I think more importantly other manufacturers will try to economize this kind of design.
@@CharlieMikeNS well for such a unique design in such a way that it ought to be commonplace, it's practically so innovative that it should be making far greater ripple in the world than it is currently. At $5k per unit currently it just seems like a boutique of boutique firearms that makes the H&K G11 seem like cheap Halloween candy.
And here I thought 4k for a SCAR is still overpriced
I'll cut them a check soon as I see about 70% off that MSRP.
$85% off

@@hikeskool Not a poor guy. For $5000 you might as well get an Atlas, which will be a better pistol in every regard.

4:53 ''And the different...úhel...'' I died XD
$5k will improve your accuracy
$1500 max
They should get it to 800 and they would sell lots.
Amazingly cool gun that i absolutely love but this will never be successful in the U.S. market at that price point.
They sold out though, idiots will pay it and I guess you have rarity too.
I see this being a failure or being one where the next 10 shot shows we have videos of them explaining why it isn't released yet.
Huh? It's already out and I've seen it at a level 3 IPSC match...
Why? Ive already borrowed one from pal at our gun club.. Firts batch was already sold out last fall in Europe.
At 5,000$ are you really heading into the U.S. market or are you heading into a business meeting trying to explain your poor sales figures in the future ?
You say that bro, but I'd bet money that USPSA shooters will eat this shit up.
They're already dropping 3k on a 2011 and then doing 1k work on it.
They're already buying 3.5k Czechmates and doing 1k work on them.
People will buy it.
@@CharlieMikeNS 3k on a proven platform. They want 5k just because.
You’d be surprised. I’ll def pick one up
@@CharlieMikeNS for sure USPSA shooters are going to love this but thats a tiny market. I dont see how this would even be worth it to produce. They will probably only sell 500-1000 so whats the point?
@@bev8200 that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. "Proven platform" it's like you have no experience with 2011's. They're notoriously fickle and unreliable. Furthermore every pistol has been an unproven platform at one point or another. You're making the same arguments that were made in the 70's when the Glock came out. "Why would I use that unproven pistol when I can stick with my proven .38 special revolver".
And they didn't just get wasted and come up with 5k. Just because you wouldn't buy one doesn't mean no one should.
$5,000!!! Do they ship you an accessory wife as well?

That is definitely cool. I can't wait to see when the reviewers get them for videos.
$5,000. dollars? AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I really love my Alien! Great handgun. If you limited on the number of pistols you are allowed to own, like me in Germany, sooner or later you will buy the best gun you can afford. Price is secondary in that case. I saved two years for a good cometition pistol, and then Laugo Arms released the Alien. It was love on first sight, and I dont regret spending so much money. I waited 8 month for mine. I think their strategy to compete in the upper price segment of high quality cometition guns is the right decision. Why competing in a market segment domonated by the big players like Glock? It may not be the best bang for your money, but it is the best bang you can buy, and it is technically unique. I have one of the first 500 produced, so whatever happens, the gun will only go up in value.
Well said. I mean the price is still high even for the German market, but we're used to high prices anyways. I mean a S&W 686 that goes for 899 USD list price in the US is in stores for 1399 Euros in Germany for example.
On German gun ranges, you're not used to seeing pistols below the 1500 Euro mark at all because people can't just buy and sell guns like in the US, we are aiming for the highest possible quality for every slot on our gun licence. The law forces us to be active in competitions, and so you're just trying to get the best. The hobby is expensive around here anyways, so a thousand more or less for one of your competition guns doesn't make that much of a difference to a lot of people.
You also have to acknowledge that the Alien for the high price comes with a high quality red dot sight plus iron sights that can be changed in seconds, plus a competition belt and holster. Those extras could easily cost a thousand bucks if bought seperately. It's a pure bred race gun for dynamic competition shooting.
I absolutely love the concept Engineering of this gun. Very innovative. Love the red dot not moving and the muzzle recovery being so quick and so small. I don't even have a concern of paying 5K. I payed much more for a SIG P210, or about the same for a SIG P226 X6 or an STI (actually more). My fear is that, at this price point, most people won't buy it, and it would make the company struggle. Will this company be here to support this 5K purchase in 1 year? In 10 years? That is my concern. Are they sustainable? In lieu of they "signature series", would it have been a better step to start with the basic gun around $1500 to $2,000? SIG's P226 Legion RX SAO is around that price with the Co-Witnessed optic (and that's SIG - a world class company with decades of history, hundreds of people on staff in multiple countries, etc.). Can they make it?
The company will most likely stay, if you watch the video they stated that first batch is already sold in Europe, American is sold out by now. And they have the money to expand the production in future years and release more affordable versions. Also they have gun shop in Prague and import guns localy, so they are on a good way to stay.
@@kibicz I ordered mine 3 months ago (when I posted this). I am expecting to have it towards the end of the of this month (May) or perhaps first week of June. I believe they sold out everything for the U.S. - I wish them great success. I know they are a bit expensive but I believe that you get what you pay for. Thanks for the nice and kind words!
BY the way - I ordered mine in February and here we are in August and they don't know when they will deliver. I am giving it till September, after that, I am asking for a refund. Note that the folks are the company have ALWAYS returned my Email and ALWAYS responded in a VERY professional manner.
Yaaaasss was hoping James would cover this gun. Subscribed.
Everybody talking about the price. What nobody (that I've seen) brings up is the fact that they've only made 500 so far! That makes it extremely rare! For now
I’m confused by the anger as well. If these sell well, there is likely to be affordable models to follow.
@@Thumpr110 totally, the guy said they've already sold the first 500. I'm sure they'll sellout of the next batch too. People need to chill.
So if I make a gun that's about twice as cool as a $1k tricked out Glock, I can charge $5k prices so long as I only make a few of them? Cool. Rarity doesn't mean much unless the gun is already reputable or old, and this thing (while really cool) is neither.
@@L1LegoAnimations dude, the gun has rep. People have been talking about it for years. It has tons of hype. It's worth what people are willing to pay. And since they've sold out the first 500 at $5000. That means the gun is worth $5000.
Interesting to see what the actual price will be when they begin mass manufacturing them.
As long as they are selling for 5 grand, they will be 5 grand... 2 years and no end in sight.
I’ll be a little less pissed when the government confiscates my $500.00 firearm then I would with a $5000.00 firearm.
Anyone know what jacket James is wearing? I can’t afford the pistol but I like the jacket.
Was wondering the same.
found anything? lol
_"ReVoLutIoNArY"_
It's an H&K P7 with the recoil spring and gas system on the top, though it is a very cool design, what impressed me the most was the top mounted hammer.
It appears to be a gas braked blowback action. The piston is there to compensate for the small recoil spring. The hotter the ammo used, the higher the pressure that goes to the piston. Clever way to have it self adjust for different ammunition without needing adjustable parts.
Lol availability on April 1st is perfect :D
This is going to be like the FK BRNO, priced way to high and selling far to few to stay in business.
Yup that was a huge bust
They need to pull a ruger and make the caliber accessible in an affordable gun. Love the idea of the caliber but fuck that pricetag
I went to the website and put my $2500 down payment today. Can't wait. Only 500 ever made of the inaugural edition in the USA. And the most innovative design in decades for pistols. There are people out there buying custom pistols well over that price range that have absolutely no novelty to them in terms of truly innovative design.
Great interview!
"It's $5000".

April 1st is soooooo ironic...
Reminds me of my beloved 22 Browning Buckmark and S&W model 41... Inherently accurate since the sights and the barrel are one solid piece.
It's so cool when someone with a genuinely good idea is allowed to bring it to fruition.

Odd that Ecclesiastes was written before guns were invented.
If reliability is there I bet it will become popular in competitions. Some of those comp pistols are more than the 5k tag.
With a barrel that low, perhaps feeding is more reliable. The cartridges don't have to tilt up into the barrel. They can pretty much go straight ahead by the looks of it.
Sorry. No pistol is worth that much. It would have to load itself, never miss, and clean itself to be worth that much.

That better be one good kurva, for a week, a room, dinner and airfare.
@@petrkarv haha well I'm glad someone got the reference xD
I'm in for the GAW! lol!
If I can get my hands on one it might be a decent out of box 3 gun piece for the price of a high end after market race-gun
they’re out if their minds for 5k better make me a sandwich with that price. yeah jts neat and all but uh no
"out of their minds"
Guaranteed the Pre-orders will sell out. This isn't an everyman's gun. This is for the racers. It's somewhat comparable to a tricked out 2011 or Czechmate in price. Just because it's out of your price range doesn't mean it's overpriced. It's not like it costs as much to make as a Glock and then they ratchet the price up to 11. Considering all the design and engineering that went into this, along with the fact that it's low production, yeah, it's gonna be expensive. They're they only company making a gun like this, and from what I've heard it actually makes a massive difference.
Much like Ferraris and Lamborghinis, this is a specialty piece. It's expensive, it's more than most people could spend on a gun, but it's certainly not without cause, and people will eat this up.
Comes with a cool range bag tho
@@michigan9564 Who has me fooled brotendo? And about which part?
those things will sell easily to collectors and racers, both have more money than sense. its like with supercars or watches.
@@michigan9564 Are you?
If you ever visit a place where competition shooters gather, you will be very suprised at what kind of money they deck out for their tools.
To be perfectly honest that muzzle flip didn't look like anything special at all. For 5,000 you could just buy a few race guns LOL. Very innovative not very effective..
Does anybody know what jacket james is wearing? I'm a fan of Ghorkas and that jacket has an updated Ghorka look to it. Very slav/ AK operator
Guys, which is the best pistol to buy?
