The Gun so Weird They Called It the Alien

- The Laugo Alien is a strange pistol that has fascinated me for years. I operates on a piston system, has a fixed barrel, and a trigger that'll rival the best 1911's. But......is it good?

So this is my personal gun. I shot maybe 200-400 through it before it got to Jake. I received it back yesterday from Laugo. They replaced the slide stop and spring and test fired 10 rounds. “Good to go.” The paperwork says. I’m going to take it out tomorrow and blast. Thanks for humoring me Jake and Chris. I’m glad you got to experience it a little. Hopefully it still runs.
How's your overall experience with the gun? Seems like such a cool pistol despite the issues here.
@@offroadkings379 an incredible and DIFFERENT shooting experience. I love shooting it. It is measurably faster than any other gun I have shot. I talked a fair amount with Jake about my experience with it, and I think our opinions line up. A very cool shooting experience. Very fast. Very different from a 2011. I would agree if you are getting into high end guns this shouldn’t be your first, but if you are looking for something different it should make the list.
I’m so eager to hear how it performs over a couple hundred rounds
It’s so odd cause I own one. This version and I have put well over 500 rounds through it. No issues. The hand placement has to be adjusted or you will catch the slide and it will jam but once you learn hand placement for this gun it’s a beauty. It’s a laser beam. Gets hot as hell though. I have a buddy who ones the same gun bought a year earlier and he has a bunch of issues so who knows. …..
Thanks Paul! I'm a little fixated on this gun so I really appreciate you loaning out such an expensive piece to the guys. I've seen on the forums it is _actually_ normal for Alien owners to pick up the 2.0 - will you be doing that? Any plans to throw on a threaded 960 Rowland barrel? Just kidding, unless...?
man, the intro & topic primers are getting really good.
Thanks man, working at it
I'm a traditionalist. The Alien is the most ungun gun I've ever seen and I still love it. Thanks for giving us the up close on this one! 👍👍
Ungun gun is a perfect description 😂
The production of 1911 Syndicate is even more slick than the Laugo Alien. And the Alien is insanely slick to start with. Rented a version 1, and that was the handgun I have enjoyed the most. Seen and handled the new Creator Series in the metal a couple weeks back….. it is a dream.
The creator looks cool for sure
I had the same issue. 800 rounds in and it was still hanging up. They exchanged the recoil spring, and did a deep clean at the factory and after it returned it has been flawless for several hundred rouns. This spring does not "S" bend like the first spring. I think the spring was binding on the edge of the piston chamber block.
Tonight on 1911 Syndicate: Jake's parents return from getting cigarettes, from another galaxy, Crispy adds some color to the gentrified salt flats, and drunk Czech gun makers make gun go fast as fuck.....
Yea but my parents didn’t abandon me. Just a really long cigarette run
@@1911syndicate over 30 years.....
The aliens are unique and badass. A piece of innovation and out of the box thinking. I do believe Laugo is still tweaking and making modular grips and optics for them. Would love to have one, or rent one for a season. Great video guys!
I love mine bought the kit 2 years ago for 5k. I’m waiting on the creator now. The creator is the newest version of the alien and comes with a 2011 style grip.
Did you bought the new Creator?
I have been looking into this , I would like the Limited Optic Kit for USPSA.
How your Alien is being so far? Any failure? I heard they get hot but does that affect the shooting?
Friday 4pm already? Best time of the week.
Get lit
98th like, your guy's scenery is something else...I feel salt in my mouth from here in SE Idaho. Maybe it's because I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes.....you had to know it was coming.
Lol
You’re not stuck with the optic that comes with it. I put a Luepold DeltaPoint pro on mine. There is also a version with a threaded barrel. I have one. There is a version with a 1911 style grip angle. I have one of those also. It’s made to run NATO 9 mm, so I f you’re having issues then try a hotter load like + P. It’s gas operated, so give it more gas. That’s probably the reason that the Ukrainian security detail runs it. +P+ will punch through level three armor.
jesus christ crispy, your visuals always make these pants get tighter. Also for me I want a 2011 and this, but that's just because I promised I would get the Quantico Hicap
I love you
Obviously, this is all a sample of one... I have about 2,300 rounds on mine with zero malfunctions thus far (that were non-ammo related).
Right. Likely a fluke, just really bad timing
Still valid, and appreciate it being called. out. The thought of using one of these in a real defensive situation is MIND BLOWING @@1911syndicate
fyi the dot on the alien is a rebranded cmore rts2. Therefore the Sig romeo 3/romeo 3 xl/romeo 3 max will also fit on it. The footprint is a bit bigger but since there's no actual cut on the rail and the mounting pattern is the same you'll be able to use those too. There are aftermarket plates that will allow you to mount rmr footprint and/or acro footprint dots with a plate. Still non reciprocating dot. The reciprocating dot you referred to is their "retro" slide, which is an entirely different slide that has a reciprocating dot, which is a thing because carry optics requires a red dot to be "slide mounted".
Couple other things.. firstly, there ARE threaded barrel models that were made available through Lancer Systems when they were still the distributors. Lancer still sells a proprietary Alien silencer for their threaded barrel too (still available and being sold). Now that Laugo has taken over their own distribution, I don't think these threaded barrels are available any longer or not currently available, but there are threaded models out there. There's also some European sold "open kits" which replace the nose portion of the gun (which unscrews and allows service of the barrel) with a comp. I think you need a proxy to mail it to you since it's not available in the US and the guys who make it don't ship outside Europe.
Also, interesting to note that someone convinced (probably bribed) the competition guys to classify this as a "striker fired" gun since they classify the trigger pushing the tab up which pushes the lever function which releases the internal "hammer" as a multi function striker system. So if you buy one it gets to shoot in the same division as glocks and cz's... not 2011's.
As for how well it shoots, I can absolutely shoot this FASTER than my infinity and my atlases as long as you hold the gun tight against the straight back recoil. The recoil impulse causes the dot to "tremble" rather than rise and fall, and hence it kinda just never leaves the window. However, I strongly disagree with your take about the trigger. My trigger is great, but it absolutely isn't custom 2011 great. (caveat is that laugo makes a 2# trigger top rail that I dont have, I have the stock 3-4# one) Shooting the laugo with its trigger and its roundish grip exaggerates any mistakes you have in grip and or your trigger press. It takes a LOT more concentration for me to slow fire precision groups with the alien than it takes for me to get the same accuracy out of a 2011 even though I think the alien, with its fixed barrel is intrinsically more accurate. On the other hand, if all I want is A zone (or C zone) hits, the alien is going to be significantly faster than the 2011. Just something to do with the mechanics of the trigger pull (I do feel creep in it btw, right before the break) and the fat round grip that doesn't index as well as most metal 2011 grip modules that are more squarish. Dunno, just me.. ymmv.
That’s great to know about the dot
The colors in that scene where the gun was acting up is 🔥.
I kind of want one of these guns still. Gotta love the innovation.
It’s very cool
Yes, they have a version with a threaded barrel and B&T has a supressor for the gun.
Hahaha of course B&T does
Apparently The Alien 2 has a more 1911-ish grip angle.
Of course that got announced right after we made this haha
@@1911syndicate Sounds about right.
Thank you for shooting this gun for the rest of us
I've been waiting for THIS! I have drooled over the Alien from afar. I love the idea but it's all for not without a great trigger. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the trigger, and the package as a whole. [grabs popcorn]
Enjoy
@@1911syndicate now I want one even more, just not $6k worth of want lol.
I have one and I love it. I shoot uspsa with mine. However, you do have to replace the recoil spring after a few thousand rounds. They're only 20 dollars. You can get an Alien used on gunbroker for like 3000 dollars.
How many rounds on it and did you have any issues like Jake and I experienced in the video?
3k ain’t bad at all
However the 3k also says something about the amount of demand for it
@@Chrisblau I have 3500 rounds through mine and had issues around 2500. I changed the recoil spring and had no issues since.
@@64ig6kg0 good to know sir thank you for watching and thank you for the response. 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
My opinion, best three 3 guns to have in a collection CZ shadow 2 pick your color / 2011 staccato or a upgrade work done prodigy / Laugo arms alien pistol
I love all types of handguns again this is my opinion most of the 1911 double stack high-end costing 5000 and up it’s 100 year old design that has been perfected where the alien pistol when you open it up and disassemble it you can definitely see the value
I’ve purchased so many belts and I gotta say Ciguera belts are the most comfortable and sturdy belt I’ve ever worn
Right? 100% worth every penny

Holy shit! The production quality is absolutely insane 🔥
Thank you sir it’s all Jake and Crispy

Watch Forgotten Weapons review. Ian beat the piss out of it
They have a threaded barrel adapter for suppressors
The steel frame on my HK P7M13 after a hundred rounds gets hot as an iron due to that gas piston. Other then heating up it’s an awesome gun.
Yep P7 gets toasty
The psp is worse. Yours has a small heat guard.

this is exactly like top gear, i must’ve watched the intro like 20 times on repeat lol, by far the best work you guys have done
Pretty sure you can get different slide rails to fit basically any red dot or MIL-STD-1913 rail.
What a great gun with a unfortunate end I hope Laugo makes it right! Great video!
We shall see
Threaded barrel is an option! Lancer imported them and have a few left.
Would love to try one out , since seeing it i always been curious about it.
I do IPSC matches, but even for that i cant see myself justifying the price to get one.
It’s very fast if you compete
The Alien Creator has a 1911 grip angle. I prefer it over my other two Aliens.
I bet
The closest thing to a more defensive and affordable version to the Alien is the Archon Type B / Arsenal Strike one speed.
But that's still just the lowest a pistol could go without being upside down as the Alien is.
Yep I totally agree. Good call
The intro was money
Love the Top Gear intro
Hey great video!
I know I’m probably not the first to comment this but there is a version of the alien with a threaded barrel, last I checked they were in stock at Rainier Arms.
Yessir!

I've been shooting P7s in matches and classes since the mid 90s. Does it come with a carbon scraper? The malfunction made me think of a dirty piston sleeve. The carbon needs to be scraped every few hundred rounds. The slide will start to feel sluggish and even lock up. It can be tapped into battery. This looked similar to the malfunction on video. Cleaning will help a little, but carbon scraping will get it back to 100%.
It wasn’t. I made sure
Yes, they offer a threaded barrel on some models
Definitely on my want list , I will be getting one along with the Strike one 😊
So I have no time with the Alien, but I have a decent amount of time behind a barrel.
I will say aesthetically I am not a fan of the Alien, but I love any gun manufacturer that is willing take risks with a new design and be creative.
@christopherdallenbach7897 I agree! I've have a growing collection of odd ball stuff that happens to be extremely expensive lol
Whatever happened to the strike one. I’m really surprised is never took off.
Just got the creator it’s beautiful and heavenly
I have 4000 ish rounds through mine. It's a fantastic gun. I will shoot it better than any other gun, probably just due to the way it fits me and recoils. I had a slide stop issue with mine as the, spring basically didn't have enough tension probably around the 2k mark. It never failed to fire, it just wouldn't lock the slide back securely.
So that’s what they wound up replacing on this one and that appeared to be the issue
I host the 2nd is For Everyone: Diversity Shoot since 2015. I have volunteer instructors that bring their coolest guns to the events, using them to introduce people to firearms. One has an Alien and I've fired maybe 200 rounds through it over the course of multiple events. It's definitely worth buying if you have multiple high end handguns. We had experienced instructors shoot it and they were split on if it was "worth it". They all thought it was unique and shot well. Two of the shooters were sponsored pistol competitors, one was ready to sell her Shadow 2 and other guns to buy one. The other said she felt her Walther Q5 Match Steel Frame shot better. It's the pistol version of an exotic car. It's on another level and it's built different. You don't purchase one because you need a gun. You buy one to own a collector's item that's a high end shooter.
I think that’s a very fair observation
Love y’all’s videos
We love you sir

Yea bruh
I thought this was gonna be the creator edition assuming you guys waited out for the 1911 grip angle it comes with. Honest outlaw did a good comparison of the two models.
Also, their website has a suppressor for sale so I assume it is a threaded barrel and that would be cool, wouldn’t need suppressor height sights on that guy
One package comes with the threaded barrel and with the low bore axis you don’t need suppressor height sights. At least the one we shot at shot show didnt 👊🏼
Yea we filmed this in august
@@1911syndicate maybe next time
Big question with the new alien that has a 1911 grip angle would you buy that gun and say yes over a high end Infinity
Side note as a 2011/1911 as well as a CZ shadow 2 lover I am extremely intrigued in this gun and would love to get my hands on one
There is a new version of the Alien that, among other things, has a more 1911-ish grip angle.
Yep and it came out after we filmed this unfortunately
This gun reminds me very much of a Kriss Vector. Both guns draw very emotional opinions on both sides. Both look completely different than competitors firearms. Both have much different recoil impulses than other firearms. Both return to zero amazingly well and can be shot much quicker than most other guns.
That’s fair
I own the alien as well as the creator edition. I'm loving both of them and agree with all of your sentiments. Thank you for the video.

Did you clean the hole that goes all the way through the Barrel the inside barrel
@chrisblau and Jake, What recoil is more comfortable for you, is it straight back or the upward recoil?
Im just really curious because I know I'll never get a chance to shoot one...
This was my gun. It is a straight back snap. No upward flip of the muzzle. Very strange impulse, but easy to keep the dot on target.
@@PaulyP_13 Hi..thanks for the info..
Kinda curious about the recoil....I dont know if the recoil of the Alien is easier to control over other hand guns...
I think you can be faster with straight back. But comfort wise I would say a traditional gun will be more comfortable to shoot
@@GuilePatrick easier to control and burn shots on target quickly. More of a snap back less of a flip. Just a different feeling. If you have been following 1911 syndicate for awhile you will know that Jake has weak little bitch thumbs. His hands couldn’t take it…..

I hoped that the generation 2 of the gun (creators edition) would have an option for a lower profile and better dot. Sadly it doesn't.
If they like money, i hope they find a way to mass produce this gun for less money and with more dot options. They certainly have a design so good it could kick the CZ Shadows from the top spot in all production/factory categories in shooting sports.

Aliens don't like salt
Having fired a Chiappa Rhino, simply due to the grip shape and the fact there is no slide to worry about, I think you may get a slightly lower bore axis with the Rhino (due to getting a higher purchase on the gun). In any event, the Rhino shoots like a dream because of the low bore axis, so I imagine this is a substantially similar shooting experience.

Please don't jump to the conclusion we are paying for the Alien pistols without evidence. Certainly Laugo would donate pistols for his security detail. Why wouldn't they? Agreed. Total bummer they chose to editorialize in this video.
I own one. It’s an over rated pos. I’ve been through 2 slide stops and an extractor after 4000 rounds and don’t get me started about the rust. It may be an ok gun for three gun, but it doesn’t really work well in most pistol sports. Just buy a CZ, or a Walther.
