I've been all over trying to find a decent tutorial and you did an amazing job. Other people were like yeah just fire the laser, stay in the green zone not providing keybindings or explaining the basic fundamentals like you did. Great video.
Now that's a good tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to explain the whole thing instead of going only for 'Make so much money with this simple advice'.
I watched nearly all of Your Mining videos and let me tell you: it was not easy to stay! Not only do you go deep into the details but it also makes my fingers itch, I want to directly jump into the game! Thanks!!!
I am really looking forward to the Orion. I own one and am looking for an organization to join to be able to put it to use once it's out. Also, I have watched numerous videos on this subject and I have to say, yours so far are the best I've seen so far. Great Job. Subscribed
I kept overchargin and blowin all the components off my ship! Thank you for showing me what i was missing, just ran 3 successful hauls made about 120k :]
Yes man this was exactly what I was Looking for. Great series. If can offer a little feedback. You might want to looking into dialing.down your sibilance somehow. Great advice.
I have been on two refinery stations and cant sell ore, cant select the prospector at all. It appears in the refinery console. Did anyone encounter it? Fix it?
this happened to me also. so i ended up refining all my stuff and just today renting a cargo ship. Thing is ... i can't find out where to sell it. New Babbage wouldn't take any of it.
Mining has always been a mystery to me. Thank you for this overview and I look forward to watching the rest of them! BTW, where did you get that cool space suit?
I tried to use the hand held mining laser on a massive rock on the surface wondering why nothing was happening. Never once crossed my mind that I would need a bigger ship to do that.
@@nickjordan8996 The handheld mining device is for fps mineables you would normally find in caves. Other than that its technically a multitool so you can use different attachments to do different things, very useful tool.

How can I tell if a station has a Trade And Development Division? And where do find the right terminals to sell? I refined a load of ore, but now I've been flying around for an hour and haven't found anywhere that will actually buy it.
so I'm confused. at 10:23 you state that you can load up your cargo ship with your refined materials and take them to any main city trading centre or TDD. So I rented a Freelancer and gathered all my orders from CRU-L1 and Q'd 56 million kms to New Babbage (because I was told they gave better rates for selling) and when i get to the terminal, it shows all the materials I had greyed out. I could switch to my backpack and sell fruit which showed as white text and was saleable but none of my metal or minerals were. I had things like Aluminum, Titanium, Diamonds, Hephastinite, conunsomething and a bunch more. It wouldnt take any. I assumed it was a bug and flew away, logged out.. logged back in and went all the way back. same thing. They wouldn't take any of my refined materials. So my question.... where do I sell the stuff I have? Please
ua-cam.com/video/hNXYMFNGUls/v-deo.html this video will cover it. You were probably trying to sell at the admin terminals which won't buy refined materials. You need to go to the Trade and Development Division.
I'd love to know the best starter pack to begin on the path to mining. Is there any advantage in buying into the game at a certain level of ship? these would be very interesting points for someone like me who hasn't started playing yet.
The $45 starter packages are pretty limited in what they are capable of. You can do basic delivery missions, some combat, and a few of the other early missions. You can also fly to and from caves to do hand mining, which isn't in itself that profitable. The Cutlass Black for around 100 USD is a great all around ship with room for a vehicle and performs well in combat. The Prospector at 155 USD is where you can consistently mine for the larger payouts one might expect. You can earn either of these in game while running missions or working as crew for another player, and the $45 game package gets you enough access to do that. Earning your way up might take a few weeks, and you'll need to redo that every time they wipe the database (Every few patches)
New player here. Almost have enough money to buy a ROC in game. Are there upgrades for the mining tools and other components on the ROC, or does it come "as is"?
The ROC comes "as is" and there isn't any real reason to upgrade the components. The ROC is capable of handling any gemstone deposit you come across with stock equipment. Check out episode 4 of this series for my specific tips for ROC mining!
i just want to mess around with the hand mining tool. Does anyone know where to go to use that? I tried Hurston but the nodes i found were too dense for the multi-tool and the progress bar on the left didnt even budge at full power to the tool.
Hey @Brian, fortunately I've got a full episode just for that. There's info there on how to find hand mineables deposits in caves. ua-cam.com/video/vMphjRz9dgc/v-deo.html
I am considering getting this game. I do have some questions. Can you setup any other ship for mining, or is the 2 ships you listed here the only mining ships? Also, if I purchased say the Aurora package, can I mine on foot and store the stuff in the ship?
First, welcome to the verse! Mining ores can only be done in one of the ships listed. They are purpose-built and the mining hardware is too complex to put into just any ship. You can certainly do hand mining with the multi-tool using an Aurora. And yes, you'll be able to store and transport the gems in your Aurora local inventory. If you'd like, you can join my discord server where we have several people willing to help out new players. Getting over the initial learning curve is tough, but it helps to have someone with experience walking you through it. You'll get some extra starting credits from CIG and I'll try and shoot you some extra credits once you get into the game!
There are 4 ships that will be capable of mining (future changes stuff) in Star Citizen, and many that will carry the ROC or ROC-DS mining buggies, these can only mine for gems. PROSPECTOR - crew of 1 and 1 size 1 mining laser with 32 SCU storage for ore, can not carry cargo or refined ore. MOLE - crew 1 to 4 and 3 size 2 lasers and 92 SCU storage for ore, can not carry cargo or refined ore. ODYSSEY - crew 1 to 6 and 1 size 1 laser and 252 cargo, i do not know if the cargo area can be filled up with ore. impractical to use such a large ship to find and bust small rocks. ORION - 2 size 4 lasers and 384 cargo, I do not know if the cargo area can be used to haul the refined ore. As of now the best option would be purchase the PROSPECTOR, sell ore at refinery if you need cash for upgrades and stuff. If you can wait for the cash, have it refined (Dinyx Solventation best refining method) then rent or borrow a freight carrier to move it to market when you need to. You can have multiple PROSPECTOR loads refining and waiting for you at any of the refineries. A problem I ran into was bringing too much of one type of refined product to market, had to wait to get it all unloaded in an over saturated market. Certain refined products are also trade items, Agricium, Titanium, and Laranite others are not Quantainium, Bexalite, and Taranite
Great video, I actually tried mining for the first time after watching. For some reason when I went to sell my stuff at Port Olisar it wouldn't let me sell the refined stuff as it was 'illegal'. tried some other desks and it was the same thing. Am I missing something?
You need to find the trade and development divisions at the major landing zones. The admin offices will not purchase them. I'm working on a few videos explaining how to navigate to these locations in each of the landing zones, however you can probably find directions with a quick google search.
For my purposes, if a resource can be refined after harvesting, I consider it an ore. Gemstones cannot be refined, and are collected as discrete units (no fractional numbers).
You can start small with hand mining, or do package delivery missions and bounty hunting that only require a ship. You might also be able to join someone else on their ship as a turret Gunner for more advanced bounty missions. Additionally you could try joining someone on a Mole to run one of the laser turrets.

I do not think the Odyssey would be good for just mining. Personally multi purpose ship will generally not do a great job at all aspects of what they were designed for. It being an expedition ship I think the be size 1, it is a large ship. Yes it does have a fairly large cargo area, but can it all be used for ore, and how long will it take to fill up with a single laser. In my mind the way to go would be the Orion with 2 size 4 lasers and 384 cargo, and a Caterpillar with 576 cargo to hall from the refinery to market.
