  • 3.23 brings with it core changes to flight mechanics in Star Citizen so I thought it was worth stripping it back and going over the basics for folks looking to get stuck into the new patch! After a little while with this new model I'm increasingly sold on it, but the first hurdles might have you finding your space legs again so hopefully this helps you out!

      Middle mouse will cycles through the SCM/NAV sub modes. For example, in your prospector: SCM Guns, Missile, Scan and Mining. You have Quantum, Flight and Scan in NAV mode.

      You are a lifesaver. If there's one thing I hate about QT, it's not being able to have a waypoint FOV, where it just creates a circular FOV of points directly ahead of you, instead of all of them at once. This at least mitigates that, if I know which direction the point I'm looking for is.

    Landing gear speed limit can be disabled by binding "automatic precision mode" under Flight-Movement

    Quick tip. Switching to SCM is a very quick way to slow down your ship when in Nav mode. Its slows you about 3 times faster than just using your retro thrusters. It's a great way to stop yourself hitting the ground when you come in too quick. :D

      Yeah when coming in for engagements in my Talon I'd come in real fast, then hit SCM and suddenly be good to go.

    The 30m/s speed limit when gear is out that can be disabled under general settings, flight movement at the bottom - it's called Automatic Precision mode.

    7:40 Pressing middle mouse in nav mode changes between Nav Flight and Nav QT.

    Important tip: You can disable the landing gear speed reduction with a keybind. I forget the precise name of it, but it's a "Precision Mode". I have mine bound to Numpad *, because fast landings are an absolute must in some cases.

    I also don't like the idea of flying around looking for rocks to mine with no shields. Any joker could just swoop in and trash you instantly before you even have a chance to react.

      So MM is very much in an early iteration and one thing I would ideally like to see changed is longer times to switch from NAV to SCM and back again. You definitely need to be more on the ball, but ultimately as a miner (particularly when planetside) you actually have a better hope of escaping the swoopers than you did previously when they had their guns available at all speeds. I.E. mining ships previously had absolutely zero chance of outrunning any form of combat ship.

      I joined the ptu and didn't have an issue. I added the keybind to switch mode and that's it. Everything else was saved from the Live folder

    9:54 is also the BEST explanation for the purpose of Master Modes. It's paving the way for an easier time in multi-crew ships.

    Running a dual stick setup took me a while to figure out a better key binding setup for master modes. I ended up using down hat long hold to switch between Nav & Combat then during Nav up hat is flight, left hat is Quantum, right hat is scan. During combat up hat is guns, left hat is missiles, & right hat is scan. Hope that helps anyone struggling to find a better keybind for joysticks.

    You can boost through the gear down "limiter" (of 30 m/s), and can bind a toggle to turn it off, in Keybindings: Flight - Movement - third from the bottom "Automatic Precision Mode - Toggle".

    I really need to get this new cruise control to click for me. Thank you for the explanation on how it works, it should help.
    I guess if I can't get it to click, I can always just use the "set to full throttle" option.

    I've only known master modes as I'm very new but I quite like it as a system. Needs some work but makes me think that basically ships have such a high resource cost that to work any system at 100% other systems need to hibernate or maybe they interfere with eachother.
    It would be cool if they codified it in the lore and then that would give some interesting ways of dictating the direction into further work on master modes.
    Maybe a bomber could have a shielded bomb bay that means they could drop a bomb in nav mode or a cargo ship with tech that allows them to have shields up in nav mode but it makes the ship overheat. So they could use it to blast through blockades then once they are through, drop shields.

    Nice video ! AFAIK, one of the downsides of MM is that it's not possible to use countermeasures in NAV mode. When a missile comes and you don't want to fight, you have to activate the SCM and waste precious seconds or risk getting hit while escaping.

      In my opinion, this is the BIGGEST change needed for NAV mode. If they expect us to use it to escape, there's no reason countermeasures would be a system directly linked to guns. I really hope they look into Decoy/Noise and make it universal.

    I like Master Modes, I hope they tweak the scm speeds to 350-400, and we get the ability to launch countermeasures in NAV mode. This is a step in the right direction for the flight model.

    Thankyou... I haven't played for a few patches and had a bit of a nightmare last night with the changes, as am a left hander and as there is no default layout for people like myself, I have to remap almost all the keys, which every patch since 3.17 leads to strange and weird issues forcing me to reassign some of the same keys after launching the game, like swapping the aim and look down sights would always cause an issue, now I have run out of reachable keys lol, to top it all off all my credits disappeared, not sure if its a bug as my ships and loot were still present, anyway thanks again and hope to bump into you in the verse..

    Thank you for the update on how to scan again it's been driving me insane that I couldn't figure out what they changed the button to! Also if I have one complaint with the hud that I'd like to see cleaned up and updated. It would be the ability to increase the size of the displays. Because in my older age I've got near sighted. It's very very hard for you to make out that tiny little Print they use for read outs! And I'm playing on a 30 inch monitor for God's sake.. ......

    I will say having a duel stick setup has made MM much easier than on MKB, but that’s my own feelings on the matter. Great video though.

    idk... so far I haven't seen a single thing I like about Master Modes. It makes pretty much everything worse unless you're a dedicated combat pilot. ... The only somewhat positive thing is the speed limit when then landing gear is deployed ... This prevents new players from ramming their ship into the next wall right at the beginning. XD

    My first experience with MM on eptu was that it should make the flight model slightly more idiot proof for new players using mouse and keyboard. Esp the speed limits for landing and fact it auto brakes to lower brackets when transitioning.
    Its orherwise just extra steps and hand holding for something that was more enjoyable before. Smaller ships are now easier to grief with shields down. You lock a missle, they cant counter measure in nav, and you strike before they know whats up.

    7:45 Use V and narrow widen the radar signature using the middle mouse. I do think you have to exit QT mode though.

    Change the keybind for chaging MM from Long Press B to Short Press B, less of an annoying headache

    It is easy to have decoupled on during cruise control and it just not sticking ... so ^^ if you are in cruise control and it is just not keeping the speed press c

    Despite you being relatively positive about it, what i saw for the mining loop wasn’t something ill be positive about
    Seems like a good move combat wise, as would be expected for something developed for S42, but clearly didnt have much thought put in with industrial play in mind. Hoping to see changes with this in mind soon

    A lot of people just outright hate master mode and all the changes it brings. Me I'm not going to make snap judgements, but instead give it time to learn. That said thanks for this video because it is a lot of changes and I was really confused.

    7:37 When you're in Nav QTM mode hit the middle mouse button to switch to Nav FLT mode which is just Flight. No Quantum stuff on your HUD.

    I'd love if you would do a video covering all the new weapon changes to 3.23! You do a great job in your video of covering details in a digestible manner, and I would definitely prefer a scripted and edited video covering this information, rather than live recording videos some other content creators are doing.

    @LoudGuns I just stumbled upon your channel. Really good content, well spoken and paced, nicely scoped subjects per video. I got into SC back in Sep last year and I've not really played it since February-ish due to work and life, but i also got bored with progression generally (i only bought the starter set and then upgraded my ship to a Nomad which seemed the most versatile for a solo player). The sim is wonderful, but the game is still a hell of a grind. Any tips or links to vids for people like me who barely get anywhere before the next reset?

    I'm actually looking forward to the new decoupled mode where your ship's trajectory is on the vector and not being pulled down by gravity. Also the speed limiter which engages with the deployed landing gear is optional. Lastly I haven't played vs the new turrets, but a change was needed to make a turret gunner feel useful, I'm hoping this can be balanced to where they're not overpowered

    I got to say switching in and out of the travel nav mode seems cumbersome and an extra step that doesn't need to exist. however with some mechanics not really being utilized in the game I can see why cig wants to make it a little bit more strategic on travel. this actually may give you a reason to you eject, but the lowering Shields to quantum away seems like griefers are going to have a field day.

    It's just too slow and feels artificially limited. I hate to see they are falling to same blunder as ED. Taking away the pilots' capability and maneuverability shouldn't be the way to move forward im this game. But I'm still hopeful since this just the first iteration. Just changing the SCM speeds can save MM in that aspect.

    Just curious if you like to get everything back to say CRU-L1 do you still have to load the stuff in a ship and fly it there? not played in a while and no clue about the new inventory system.

      With the new inventory system you would need to load it all into a storage crate and onto a ship that way. Ships no longer have a magic internal inventory.

    Nice video but sadly this extreme of a change away from sim flight killed flying completely for me, which was what I most enjoyed gameplay wise before. Feels so awful to move any ship now. Maybe once the org play, crafting and other non flight including systems are in it gets interesting again.

    What happened to the mining laser gimbal target? At one time I could press 'G' when in mining mode and then move the mining head around without moving the whole ship. Now I don't see this setting in KeyBinds. Is there another way to achieve the same result?

      I think the cycle will be to approach in nav, shift to scm to slow down the approach, switch to mining to scan, switch back to nav to move on. shouldn't too much hassle, as switching to scm is like hitting the spacebrake!

      It took me like an hour to figure out how to deploy the claw and salvage arms in my reclaimer, I thought it was a bug… then realized I was in nav mode all the time and had to switch to scm from pilot seat to deploy them 😭

    No a lone fighter should not be able take on multiple opponents super easy. But yes the lone fighter should absolutely be able to take on multiple opponents if they hardly know anything about combat.
    But no, it should not be mediated by taking awau existing expression of skill with barely though over exploitable limitations. It should be done by making the fight basics easier to get into.

    I'm fairly certain I won't like most of the changes. Power of habit, sure, but I think a fair bit of this will take away much of my fun rather than add to it. I guess I hope CiG will tweak this quite a bit.

      I think a lot of it will make more sense when bigger ships come. My big concern right now is that nav mode is too slow, and switching is too quick but essentially these are just numbers in a database

    So theres no "non quantum" nav mode ? im stuck seeing that "quantum spooled" notifier and spammed with travel destination icons ?

    Okay so Master modes basically makes it fucking impossible to disengage from a fight. Amazing. You can't boost up to your ship's Max speed to try to get away and gain some time/let your Shields recharge. Because the second you swap over to nav mode to boost away, You lose your Shields and die. How the hell did anybody at cig think that was even remotely a good idea?

      I think the changes are less about the dynamics of 1v1 and will make more sense in n vs n fights. Your wing person is responsible for covering you out of those fights.
      It’s also meant to reduce the jousty type scenarios where people zoom past you and take pot shots then disappear and come back with full shields for the next pass until one of you dies.

      @@LoudGuns A competent pilot back then could easily break jousting by pre nosing and closing the gap to the opponent. Now, in Master Modes you can't do that anymore. The distance of jousting has decreased a bit, but instead it occurs way more often

      @@_Anaklysmos_ I think it matters more for getting big ships involved in the combat meta when previously it was just all about fighters.

      @@LoudGuns i think they have taken the wrong approach in trying to make multicrew viable. First of all, things like armor, maelstrom and engineering, which will all give mutlicrew ships and big ships in general a huge boost, are still not implemented in the game. So it makes no sense to completely redesign combat when you know you will have to do it once again very soon in the future.
      Second, I think Multicrew ships and capital ships shouldn‘t be balanced around attacking and chasing fighters but rather as defending ships, especiallly when it comes to area denial. A hammerhead isn‘t able (not previously and not in Master Modes) and won‘t ever be able to chase a Gladius. But when a Hammerhead hovers over Jumptown, the Gladius should have no chance to get there without being absolutely decimated. That‘s what Multicrew ships should be balanced about. And it could have been easily achieved by giving turrets more range and more projectile speed. That‘s all it would have taken.
      Another example: Imagine a huge battle with Javelins, Idrises as well as many tiny fighters. The middle of the battlefield is full of capital ships and thus compeltely covered by turret gunners. If the Gladius engages a capital ship, it will get destroyed. However, it can decide to stay away from the main battlefield and instead fight other light fighter enemies.
      This is how Multicrew could easily be implemented into the game without destroying physics like Master Modes did.

    Not sure it matters, but no one should be listening to Avenger Ones opinion on MM. He's literally made a career around using the unbalanced light fighter meta. He literally makes money streaming it. Anything he says will be so biased that it's not worth considering.

      I think everyone’s opinions are worth considering (my personal favourite, well reasoned and most balanced from the PvP community is Vergil), but it doesn’t mean we all have to agree. For my 2c’s I think as per Yogi’s post it’s important to realise this isn’t a final version, and also I think it provides more room for the game to grow into bigger fleet battles with larger ships having more impact.

      Some people found a way to enjoy the old combat system even though it is not even close to what the devs have in mind or have had in mind and because most people dont enjoy it and wont try to get good it seems to be very elite. And those are the people being loudest about not liking the change

    Why did they have to give a special name to changes for flight. Can you disable the master mode? Star Citizen seems to like to give stupid names to everything to just generally confuse people. Here, be overwhelmed with pointless names for things that don't really need names.

    There is no point in figthing NPC. They cheat and even you manage to pin them down, they teleport away.
    As if all the cheating the NPC need is not enough.
