Can we appreciate the fact that the S1H, and other similar cameras like the S5, are so good at recording compressed internal footage that Gerald and Jordan found almost no reason to record RAW externally. Amazing cameras to choose from nowadays.
I agree, but it is worth noting that the S5 has a more compressed codec though, being 150 mbps LongGOP. They're talking about the S1h which has 400 mbps All-I encoding.

Nice review both Gerald and Jordan, loads of info and was what I've been waiting for with regards to my S1H and the long decision of going Ninja V for RAW or more recently VA. I'm needing SDI support so it's opened up some options to kill two birds with one monitor when that time comes. Thanks you two!
If Panasonic is looking at the comments (😆), please bring BRAW to the Lumix S5! I only edit in Resolve and would love to use the RAW features available on my S5's.
Great review and rapport between the two of you! I just picked up the 7" a week ago to use with a Nikon being sent to me, but as I also have my S1H it was a great way to play with both (and the Sigma fp soon). Also loving the interface and the fact I can, as a Windows user, finally play with Panasonic RAW in Resolve without a round trip ProresRAW FCPX to Prores422 conversion.
Thanks for the great review as ever. I have an S1H and a Ninja V and I agree with you, apart from ISO and WB control I’m not gaining much using ProRes raw over internal 10bit. Plus using Neat noise reduction on the raw footage is really time consuming. Cheers!
It's crazy how Panasonic's gives these updates for free. Yes, the original filmaker update is payed for the S1, but these features weren't included in the begining, and now most stores bundle that fw with the S1 anyways. Kudos for Panasonic for the long term and effective support.
Its my understanding that ProResRAW and BRaw are very different. ProResRAW stores all three RGB channels seperatly....and therefor, has no actual "color" in it. (Three RGB filtered grey scale channels) BRaw actually flattens it's RGB channels into a full color mixed image. You really can't white balance ProRes and pre-save that...because its got no actual color to white balance. However, you can white balance BRaw because its pre-mixed to the file. How do you white balance something that has not even been deBayered yet? (ProResRAW) Anyhoo...this is a key difference in both of these "raw" files. (Thank you RED patent atourneys)
Z cam just announced yesterday that there is 1) a new z cam F6 pro coming out soon, but B) They have worked out a deal with Blackmagic to record BRAW through these recorders. Could be a game changer for the Z cam crowd and all of the currently clunky workflow issues ini resolve.
I used to have a GH5 and that thing was a beast, I still think its a fantastic camera now too! I'm not sure if RAW is necessary for Panasonic, especially in mirrorless camera bodies, but its definitely going going help them marketing wise tenfold!!
NOTE there is a difference between using the EXPOSURE Slider vs the ISO slider, This is why i love using the RED weapon Camera, you can change ISO and your image doesn't fall apart at all, RED camera is amazing but way out of most people's price range,, the RED WEAPON is $40,000.00 , so most people are not going to get this camera. But it's amazing.. Probably the best video camera of all time

Why BRAW is not possible with the 24p (CINEMA) ? i don’t understand ! if there was only one option to validate on RAW HDMI OUTPUT it was the CINEMA frequency 24hz and not NTSC 23.97 etc... It is riciculous.
Blackmagic added camera control over HDMI for their current-gen "Pocket" cameras to their new ATEM devices. If they added that to the VideoAssist, I would likely grab one PDQ.
Any updates on the dynamic range via the highlight recovery option? Has it been enabled yet? I’m looking to pitch this braw set up over shooting on the Komodo if possible. More $$ in my jeans 🤔

Hey guys.. Enjoyed the video but I would have to disagree at 17:45 RAW video its not about White balance shift or extra dynamic range... Straight out of the camera always talking about the 6K image you get 4:2:0 10bit and the 6K image has some stupid compression that is causing crashes on premiere and also it breaks much easier than 4K 10bit 4:2:2 so having BRAW even in 12:1 compression you still get 12bit and something like 4:4:4 (almost ) subsampling which makes a big difference...
