  • It appears the manufacturer updated the silicone caps featured. I bought another set and they did.
    The workaround is cutting both as demonstrated, and stacking both as I did in my first video (link below) and using a 43mm step-up filter ring. The 43mm step-up ring work for the new silicone caps. If you are unsure of which one you get, just buy the kit, and both the 43mm and the 39mm step-up rings and return the one that not fit.

    One thing I did not mention, was that you could go one step smaller on your filter by using a 39-40.5mm step up ring for those of you who have filters for your Sony kits lens that has a 40.5 filter thread.
    I already have lots of 43mm filters, so that is why I used that.

    Great idea. But why isn't anyone making an adapter for this? Gopro gets all the accessories.

    Great idea, I'm curious if this would also work if you wanted to use a teleprompter with the Osmo Action 4 camera. Not sure if that rubber ad-hoc adapter would be enough to hold the weight of the camera so that it doesn't fall off the teleprompter.

    • @628creates

      That probably would not work, but let me know if you try!

    Thanks for a great video. Unfortunately it seems like they’ve changed the type of lens cover (now without the thread) and it doesn’t work for me. 37mm is too small. With 39mm the lens cap fit snugly into the ring by itself but too night if it’s on the lens cover of the camera. I’m going to find a version of the lens cap that looks like yours and try again.

    Nice! But should add that likely there will be some vignetting, depending on FOV and filter chosen.

    What is the diameter you reckon of the actual internal screw for the lens? There’s a lot of step up rings available on AliExpress with small diameters.

      I have no clue, but if you use the ones I suggest, you should be good.

      @@628creates that’s not what I asked. I don’t want to create a “bodge” job, I want to actually screw them in. I’m surprised no one’s made a 52mm adapter yet or a cage. Small rig had one for the original Osmo action. I’m gonna work out what the tread is and post a video. Will reply here too. I believe it to be 30mm. I have a 37mm old yo action cam 52mm filter adapter and it kind of fits but the internal rubber ring prevents it, however from that info I know the internal thread to be below 37mm. I’ve found ring for 30 and 33mm so I’m going to try those first before doing the “lens cap” method.

      @@ThatVideographerNick Good luck and thanks for watching. Would be interesting if you could figure that out.

      @ThatVideographerNick 5 місяців тому

      @@628createshave figured it out to a degree. So may be useful to people with an Osmo 4.
      With the plastic lens protector/cover thing, the thread size is a perfect 30mm. I know this as I bought 3 step up rings to test: a 30mm - 58mm, A 34mm - 58mm, and a 30.5mm - 52mm.
      The 30mm, almost threads in to the plastic lens protector that comes with the Osmo action 4. I will continue to update here. BUT you could potentially GLUE the 30mm to the plastic lens cover and have yourself a perfect 30mm - 52/58mm adapter.

    Bought a few different lens protectors. The diameter is nowhere near 39mm they are all 36mm. 36mm step up rings are few and far between.

    • @michorlu6858
      @michorlu6858 4 місяці тому +1

      You would need a bigger step up ring than 36mm if the diameter of the lens cap is exactly 36mm. The step up rings are not measured from the inner hole but rather from the lens thread. You would probably need a 38mm or 39mm step up ring to fit over a 36mm diameter lens cap.

    39mm doesn’t work with screen protectors too loose with action 4

    • @628creates
      @628creates  5 місяців тому

      The purpose of this video is to show how you can use the silicone ring and a 39mm step up ring to use any filter. I don't use the screen protector, so I cannot speak to that, but the screen protector is so thin, I cannot see it hindering the ability to use the ring and making it loose to where you could not still use the 39mm filter ring.
