  • @MrMartechi

    There's a fairly common theory that scientific development does not continue exponentially as it does today forever. It may very well be that at some point, there's so many "brick walls" that further development is only marginally possible. Aside from their culture, this could be a valid explanation why the Voth - and indeed most old species we find in Star Trek - do only have "refined" versions of technology and seem to progress much slower than the Federation currently does. They are just at that point where Technology more or less stagnates and only grows in scale and refinement. Breakthroughs might still happen, but they'd be much further apart.
    Personally, I like to believe that the Voth are still a mostly nomadic species and exist all throughout the Galaxy in sparse enclaves. Their structured culture and experience might very well be a good reason for them to not form a coherent empire: They've seen those rise and fall countless times. Instead, they are content with existing alongside the machinations of an ever changing galaxy, whilst their culture, in all its different iterations, remains untouched

Only difference is that the religious doctrine can't destroy the evidence in the form of the sun, moon, planets, and stars. And they couldn't destroy gravity, either. But the Voth can certainly attempt to destroy humans that come from earth, but in the end, they're just fooling themselves. Starfleet would render them a species unworthy of joining the Federation, due to their doctrine.

    Considering the technological superiority and arrogance of the Voth, it's fortunate for Starfleet and humanity that they dismissed the distant origins theory. Imagine if they examined the evidence and accepted that they did come from earth, and they wanted it back.
    A Voth armada drops out of transwarp above earth, all Federation technology stops working, and the population along with ships buildings, stations ect, is beamed away to giant cargo holds, and then dropped off in another system far away, assuming that transwarp beaming isn't a thing for the Voth.

      In the game Star Trek Online - during one of the PvE missions - there is a massive Voth "Fortress" Ship, larger than the entirety of the Borg HQ itself. Spanning at 134.5 kilometers. Suggesting that the Voth may have no singular new home planet, but rather - like the Covenant in Halo - have a massive nomadic city ship, or ships, capable of warp travel.
      Seven of Nine also states during this mission that the Voth "Have designed a ship particularly for fighting Borg." during the missions objective to protect Cooperative and freed Borg ships from the Collective, Voth and subsequent Undine. Seeing these Borg Killer Frigates in action as they launch indestructible, slow moving, shielded - likely transphasic - torpedos means that the Voth probably have, or have had the means of evading and or fighting off the Borg effectively for a while.
      While this is all Non-canon, it does show a unique side to the Voth in the games.

Skeletal analysis suggests dinosaurs were simply too active to be purely cold-blooded. It had to be a mix, or endothermic.

    If you think about it, the doctrine that the Voth have and the system of government is similar to that of many of Earth's Human cultures. This includes the Roman Catholic Church especially in the 1400s to 1600s during the reformation, the pre-imperialism isolationist China and Japan, and many modern anti-western Islamic cultures. .... Plus speaking of Star Trek Online, since the Federation and other Alpha and Beta quadrant powers are rapidly becoming more equal to the Voth, it would be cool if there was a bones episode in which there was in outbreak of a genetic disease that was fatal to the Voth and they could not cure it. The only way it could be cure is with a vaccine that only a life form from the same home world could cure it (that being humans) proving the biological connection and sparking a schism similar to the Protestant Reformation. It just a idea but a fascinating one.

      I like it, I like it a lot. The best part is that the conflict wouldn't center around the Starfleet characters at all. There's not a captain in Starfleet (Lorca doesn't count) that wouldn't jump at the opportunity to help, but the Voth would damn near have a civil war over the fact.

    • @ChimpingBulldog
      @ChimpingBulldog 5 років тому +7

      I think the Voth are on city ships because of the borg. What better way to avoid assimilation than being able to transwarp a huge population and your advanced tech out of harms' way, with the aid of advanced power dampening and cloaking tech. The Voth would be very difficult to assimilate. As soon as a cube appears it suffers power fluctuations, and is unable to determine why.

    • @TheOnlyEpsilonAlpha
      @TheOnlyEpsilonAlpha Рік тому +2

      Would be 2 interesting opponents, but I bet on the Borg in that conflict. And for reason: The Borg are used to constant fighting. The Voth on the other end are too arrogant in their beliefs in their advantage, like the UFP was before Q "introduced" them to the Borg! We have to admit: Q was right, the UFP had no clue what is out there. The Voth are self-righteous about themselves and are slow to adapt to new things.
      The outcome of the conflict is uncertain, but it breaks down to one thing: Does the Borg have one technology, which helps them against the energy dampening techniques? We donno that for sure, since the Borg keep assimilating other species over and over. If the answer is "yes", then... well, the voth are fucked! Because their stunning needles won't bother the Borg, and their whole other strength is on intimidating others with "interrogating surgery", which would be an amusement park to which what Borg endured when they turned into Borg, despite they don't fear anything. I guess their culture will be... how do Borg say that, oh yeah: "... We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile." Would be interesting to see dinosaur drones.
      On the other side, if the Borg are not able to adapt against the energy dampening techniques, the Borg are fucked. Without the energy that powers their ships, they are defenseless, and as we've seen from seven of nine: The cortical core regulates many of their body functions of their implants, without it a little bit of shaking and soon the death of the drone. If they shut that one's down, it's an easy win for the voth.
      On the long run, i would count on the Borg and there we have a major conflict in the Voyager Plot which i don't understand: On one side they were about to be extincted against Species 8472, since like the pointed out "The Borg don't and can't understand what they can't assimilate" right? SO how does that match to what we've seen when Seven of Nine have been recaptured and had a conversation with the Borg Queen, analyzing a species they are about to assimilate?! You can't tell me that is a change in behavior, since the queen existed for sure before they encountered Species 8472. And in that dialogue, they analyzed a species which they encountered: The Humans of the Sol System, and their fail to assimilate them

    Actually, if the Voth took up facts, they would be the oldest race in existence. Remember that even the iconians and Tkon were less than 500 thousand years old. The voth went interstellar 65 million years ago, which means they are likely the oldest living species in every quadrant. It also would mean that humans are technically their children, and would make them responsible for humanity. More than that, it would mean that they're likely going to return to Earth at some point, as it is by definition, their homeworld. Infact, discovery might use that as a plot point in the next season. Resolving the burn, and having the voth fleets arrive in Sol, forcing humans to live alongside them, as vulcans have been forced to live alongside the Romulans. This could possibly happen due to the burn having a negative effect on their way of life, negative enough to force them to return home and re-strategize. I think that would be a very cool storyline, a Voth/Human reunion 65 million years late.
