I'm not sure if a video on UA-cam has been taken off for inappropriate tripod use, but this may come close, haha, thanks for the laughs Jason. And another great video too.
I swear everytime search for photography tips the first videos that pop up are from The Lord Of the Fedora and your videos are also the only ones i watch no need to go anywhere else. Thanks for your hard work bro.
Hey there everyone! Just a simple video showing how you could use a speedlight flash in sunlight using HSS. No modifiers used. Could I use more? Sure, but the purpose is to show you what results you can get with minimal gear. All shots edited using Lightroom only. Thanks for watching!
+Jason Lanier A new flash just came up on the market. It's the Godox TT685S and it has HSS, TTL and it's able to manually adjust the other flashes that you have off camera. There is also the X1-S that is strictly a trigger and an Godox TT600S that doesn't have TTL and it doesn't have HSS on camera but off camera it has HSS. I just bought two TT685S's, one TT600S and a X1-S and it all cost me just over $350. I'll let you know how it goes. It just came out yesterday and it's already on back order so get them while you can.
+David K Miller Photography With the TT685 - S you can even without the Godox XR - 1 S drive .Both have 2.4 GHZ For normal Godox Witstro 360 you need to Godox XTR - 16 2.4 .The Godox XR - 1S is for us to not have in Germany .The TT 685 - S I use as a transmitter for my Godox- lightning .I do not use HSS function .But for the SuperSync . HSS will take about half of the power . In SuperSync I can with full power against the sun blitzen.Für Sony Interface agent shoe adapter and I wanted to Pixelking . The market is deserted. There is apparently no production . Warm greetings from Germany
Nagual Pro so sorry I'm just getting back to you now. I absolutely love it and it works flawlessly. I'm not sure how the Sony flashes are but the shoe mount on them is horrible and very susceptible to damage. One of Mt tt685s speedlight had a piece break off and it's no longer able to mount to the camera but the receiver is internal so I'm able to use it off camera with no problems at all.
Just got my Pixel Kings from China. Been playing around. I totally understand why you say "my fake skies". Using HSS and getting properly exposed skies with flash filling in your subject is amazing. My photos don't even look real (in a good way). Thanks for your training.
Jason, I just found this on your channel and it's so inspiring. I'm armed with a couple of speedlights, a couple of reflectors and a couple of light stands but I don't have the luxury of assistants while I'm practising. Amazing to see that, with careful thought, you can get amazing results with a speedlight in a backpack that I can carry alone.
Jason, Godox just have released there new TT685S Flash Kits . HSS and TTL, compatible with Sony A7's series cameras and Sony FLM series Flash 60 65 45 . no adapters needed. 👍
At full power output the B1 and the B2 has a flash duration of 1/1000 of a second. So if you set your shutter speed on the camera to 1/2000 of a second or higher you do not need the option of high speed sync because the shutter speed is now twice as fast as the flash duration. You can use this option over high speed sync with any flash or speed light because At full power output all electronic flashes have a flash duration slower than the maximum shutter speed of any camera. This technique makes it possible for anyone who has even a inexpensive or old speed light the ability to achieve the same affect as high speed sync.
you can also use the Sony hvl 56am speedlight with the pixel king triggers for HSS...suggest using the Pixel battery pack with both the hvl58am & the hvl56am for better recycle time and for controlling any heating issues..great video!
That location is gorgeous! The sea and sky reminds me of the Ring of Kerry in Ireland. Jason, you should get to Ireland and take photos on the Atlantic coast. You're skills combined with the beauty of that coast would be amazing to see.
Great content. been following your channel for about a year. always excited to see where your work takes you. Also the first video that actually talks about how to do anything with a sony flash.
I thought the reason for High Speed Sync was to allow you to shot a more wide open F/stop, to blur out the backgrounds? These shots everything appears in focus. So, I could of gotten same results with regular flash speeds. Correct?
He's using a flash to get even lighting across her face. He wants HSS so he can freeze everything in frame since it's windy. So no you can't get the same results with non HSS sync speeds, it won't be as sharp.
Hey Jason! Love your videos. Ive found an even more affordable solution for HHS and TTL. I got the Godox TT600S and X1T-s transmitter for 115 on amazon. the flash also has a built in receiver
p.p.s. using the Pixel King triggers...both the hvl58am & the hvl56am fired in HSS with the flash head straight up (not at the 90 degree config)...the HSS indicator did turn off when I flipped the head up but they still both fired pefectly (I went as high as 1/2000 sec)
Nice video like the fact you show us how your setting your Sony up. I don't understand why you screw around with a 1/1 jerry rig though. Why don't you use that new Odin II system and then it will work like it should. I am gonna get it with a Indra 500 and a couple of Mitros + flashes soon as I can afford it. My yongnuo works great for me with speedlights but they do not have a Nikon version of their strobe out and its been over a year so I may move over to Odin.
Hi Jason I'm a big fan of yours and almost everyday I look for your videos to learn things about photography. I hope you can time to reply for this messages. My question is if you don't mind......I have a Sony A7II and F43M External Flash and want it to be HSS, which trigger to buy so I can set up like one in this video. Thank you so much in advance...More power to you...
Great video and thanks for sharing what is working for you on your shoots. Why do you choose Pixel King over Pocket Wizard? Can you use this with an A6000 using a Canon 430 Speedlite? Also can you recommend a light weight sturdy tripod that can easily travel on airplanes and be reliable since I have to carry my carry for long hikes on my backpack.
You have taught me so much, thank you. I purchased the flashpoint (2) after your video in Australia and love them. I do have a question, hope it's not a dumb one. I thought the purpose of HSS is to blur the background, yet your photos show the background in focus. Is this due to the distance from you to the model in relation to the background?
This equipment is dated now. I didn't move to Odin because Godox/Flashpoint is now the value leader. Get you some Flashpoint stuff from Adorama if your watching this video in todays market.
Absolutely lovely as always. I have the pixel kings and the Flashpoint 600 from Adorama. I know I need the MAA for the Sony, but do I need an adapter for the moonlight?
Hello. a question the Newwer 565EX flash has that option to put high speed? or the problem is my Nikon d3100 camera. ? what can i do in this bucket to be able to take pictures with high speed ? thank you.
Jason. Loving the videos you are making. I'm a uk wedding photographer and shoot Canon. I have just bought an a6000 for fun and love it. I have canon and sigma lenses. Have you used the MC-11 adapter ? Which is for Sony to Sigma. It promises a lot. If you haven't can we have one of your great vids on it. Thanks in advance - Jeff.
Hi Jason, off topic of this video, i invested in Sony A mount lenses when the only type of more pro camera was attached to A mount system and FE mounts were attached to the point and shoot Nex cameras , I was considering upgrading my camera body, to a mirror-less version (FF.) From what you know is there a decent third party adapter that allows full function of my Sony/Zeiss A mount lenses (i only have 5 but would loose a lot to sell all and buy new) and what sort of job do they do or should I stick with my A77 body? or wait for a new A frame body (if they ever make one). I do know Sony make an adapter but they are real bulky. if you every get an option to do any video's related to that would be good. Great videos 2, I appropriate you taking the time and trouble to make/post them.
Please sir I need help.. I have the TT600 but each time I enable the HSS on the flash unit and try to trigger it with the X1 on my Canon 80D Once I click the shutter button The HSS trips off immediately and it shoots at default sync speed. So I end up not achieving the HSS

Because when he goes to 1/4000th of a second shutter and the flash isn't powerful enough to keep up and the flash is too far away, so he has to raise the iso to 320 to compensate.
I have D7200 with Ad200 Godox flash. Once I have my XPRO on HSS, high do you know what is the correct shutter speed? Thank in advance for helping. I’m new to HSS.
Jason, how did you put that light stick together? I know you mentioned it was a monopod but I haven't seen monopods with feet that wide. Also it looked a lot longer than a standard monopod (pause) lol
I'm amazed at how this works without a softbox! I like to pack as light as possible so this is definitely a game-changer. Thanks for this.

Just left message on other Nitsirk video, Finally got my A7R2 to work HSS with my HVL-F56AM using pixel adapter. Thank you for these teaching videos.
Sir you are simply great.. purchased new A 6300 for my videography. ...thanks for your great guidence
congratulations men, you are so professional photographer , and you spanish is soo good perfect
Jason, I love your teaching sessions...

Great results using a bare flash, Many Thanks Jason

Lol, at 4:40 I was thinking exactly the same thing. ;-). Thanks for always taking the time out to make these videos for your followers.
P.S. - I have seen your MC-11 video 10th March but wondered what it would be like in the 'real world' , thanks again for all your videos.
Hey Jason, you keep opening up new possibilities and more ways to spend $$. Loved it!
Great video, good to see you were both having fun
Your model is stunning
Fantastic video. Taylor made for my love of HSS, Nikon with Yongnuo triggers and SL's. Need the Sony and the Hawaii backdrop!
Nice thanks for showing the details on what accessories I need to make off camera flash work...
You're welcome
It was super again Jason!
That location and pictures are awesome!

Yes you are correct, this video is random and all the techniques are gibberish.
yes also I don't understand why he's at ISO320. In bright sunlight he could've used ISO100 and thus also reduce shutter speed.
Allen Freeman yeah he could have used iso 100 and brought down the shutter speed to at least 1000 getting more power out of the flash
He's using a flash to get even lighting across her face. He wants HSS so he can freeze everything in frame since it's windy. So no you can't get the same results with non HSS sync speeds, it won't be as sharp.
sportagus3 1/800 would easily freeze the trees... didn't need 3000 shutter for that
Hey Jason! Love your videos. Ive found an even more affordable solution for HHS and TTL. I got the Godox TT600S and X1T-s transmitter for 115 on amazon. the flash also has a built in receiver
great video. She always takes nice shots. thanks for the video they are invaluable for guys like me

Understood, video quality very sharp!
Thx I found the link to ur gear. Keep up the good shooting.
+everett woo Where did you find the link? Thx
Good song for this video... Great video as always!
Very nice video, as always. Thanks.
I found your links to the gear. Thanks Jason keep up the excellent videos. The quality is awesome, the sound could be improved
+Darryl Sound for this one was off because we went on camera. For all other videos it's a lot better.
Great lesson .. Thank you very much for posting
I didn't have trouble with the hsson the Nissan as long as I used the Air Commander with it. I could also adjust the power of the flash as well..
Damn I need a flash, explains all the shadows in my pics....so much to learn...
Yep, they help to mitigate unwanted shadows
Godox is a great cost effective way to get there, but in the interim, get a reflector - less than £20/$20 and will help control contrast.
stunning
the look Jason, that was funny😋
p.s. both the hvl 58am & hvl 56am have the old minolta connection so you won't need any adapter for the speedlight
these shots are amazing !

Great video man, and yes the video looks great on my 5k Retina iMac
+HawgHunter63 Good to know brother....thanks!
Subscribed, love your style Jason!
bro this was super helpful thank you
Im a total newbie to photography but are these flashes all manual or TTL. The results he's getting are just stellar.
Atleast I've learned something 📸📸 keep up
Ciao Carissimo Lanier
Very good.
Amazing! Thank you! Just subscribed!
Great video, Jason, can't wait to see your thoughts on the new, Godox AD 200/ Flashpoint Evolv, as it is hybrid speed light and Monolight.
The Donkey is strong in you ;)
Did you yell out what I think you did? Santa Maria… 🤣
😂 Thanks for the video and the laugh.
what a beautiful place *_*

nissin work awesome, just have to use good batteries in trigger and flash unit. Most people use rechargeable batteries and it'll misfire.
Absolutely lovely as always. I have the pixel kings and the Flashpoint 600 from Adorama. I know I need the MAA for the Sony, but do I need an adapter for the moonlight?
Maybe you can try this but on sony a 6000 and godox with X1 flash? those we, normal mortal like/can afford to use. Would be nice :). Many thanks...

“Hope you enjoy the 4K!”
*is out of focus* 🤣
Sorry it’s a great video I just had to have a quick laugh!
Love the Videos Jason! Will you be doing a review on the Nissin Di700A Flash Kit with Air 1 Commander for Sony Cameras anytime soon?
you are el mejor señor fotógrafo...:)
Hi Jason, off topic of this video, i invested in Sony A mount lenses when the only type of more pro camera was attached to A mount system and FE mounts were attached to the point and shoot Nex cameras , I was considering upgrading my camera body, to a mirror-less version (FF.)

what do you think about the godox tt350s for Sony A6000 in terms of using it outdoor like you did?
Jason great shoot. One question: these somewhat surreal looks to your pictures is it done through HDR editing?
Please sir I need help..
I have the TT600 but each time I enable the HSS on the flash unit and try to trigger it with the X1 on my Canon 80D
Once I click the shutter button
The HSS trips off immediately and it shoots at default sync speed.
So I end up not achieving the HSS
Did you use a dead cat on your mic? If not you might want to do that in the future to muffle the wind.
You can also achieve the same effect-using your normal sync shutter speed and a - ND1.2 - 4/f Stop Neutral Density Filter if you set your flash exposure to F/5.6 you would then set your aperture to F/1.4 when using a - 4/f Stop Neutral Density Filter. This gives you exactly the same exposure but significantly less depth of field.?
Yea...no.
Good luck dealing with the color cast and degradation in image quality (vignetting, loss in sharpness, etc.) from using an ND filter.
I took this photo with a Sony NEX-VG10 using a legacy Pentax 50 mm F 1.4 lens (and a 1.2 (4 Stops) Neutral Density Filter.
So yes you can do it.

Jason, Have you used this flash with Gary Fongs Speed Snoot and Grid? Like/Dislike?
Another alternative is to use the hvl-20 as a trigger I guess? What is that tripod set up? Thanks for the video Jason v helpful.
+Andy Gallacher but no HSS there
I wrote a comment that HSS works with A7R2 using a Sony HVL-F56AM flash but was wrong. The flash does flash but it does not fully light the frame which is very frustrating since it shows sony doesn't support older flashes. The HSS Function works well with the nex 7 but not with the A7R2. If anyone knows how to get it to work with the A7R2, please let me know. I am using a PIXEL tf-324 adapter on the camera to get the flash with the old minolta mount.
how do you figure when to use ISO 100 or bump it up to 320?
when you want to expose more of the background, you bump up the iso or decrease the shutter speed
Hey Jason, did you ever test these out with any Nikon speedlights? I have a few SB-910 and YN-568EX units that I am desperately trying to use in HSS. Thanks
Interesting, I am seeing a 4k video on a post size phone screen 🤘
Love your videos!! I have a canon 320ex flash, can i use it on my sony a7II?
Hey. Can someone please explain the Santa Maria de Guadeloupe comment. I'm from the UK so I don't really get the reference. Thanks
New Lumix !
What monopod are you using here, im using a Suri thats looks almost the same but yours has even longer looking legs offering even moore stability when leaving a speed light unattended.
muchas gracias loco!
+Leevis Verdiales LOL thanks!
GREAT stuff Jason...thanks for sharing! *sub'd*
+Jason Lanier I was curious about the filter that can be seen on your camera at 7:05. Was this an ND filter?
HELLO SIR, is your white balance set for flash?
I have a Nikon d750 and Godox X1Tn. When I put the x1tn on the camera I have a delay when shutter fires, WHY???
great video (Y) should i rise up my iso with speedlites as i see a lot of photographers go with strobes 50iso !
Because when he goes to 1/4000th of a second shutter and the flash isn't powerful enough to keep up and the flash is too far away, so he has to raise the iso to 320 to compensate.
love this girl..
could you achieve these looks with godox tt600?
I have D7200 with Ad200 Godox flash. Once I have my XPRO on HSS, high do you know what is the correct shutter speed? Thank in advance for helping. I’m new to HSS.
very nice channel
What flash do you have? What model is it?
Jason,
how did you put that light stick together? I know you mentioned it was a monopod but I haven't seen monopods with feet that wide. Also it looked a lot longer than a standard monopod (pause) lol
Where is the link to the pixel king triggers and receiver?
Great....which Lense have you used for that Shooting?
what is the stand youre using to mount the flash. it looks so tall , so im imagining expensive? id love to get one of those . where can I get one?
