Thank you so much for this valuable information. I was worried cause this Sunday I have an outdoor shoot and I don't want to use off-camera flash with all the setup. ill surely try and apply your methods. Thanks once again. May God bless you.
thanks andrew ,for your video and we want to ask which good picture control can you use in outdoor and how to set well according to the condition you are in mainly for ministers , leaders
Great lesson, Andrew! I've missed these videos I'm glad to see them coming back. I've known you've been busy. I follow you on Instagram and Facebook, so I get to see all your other projects you do outside of photography.
Nice tip Andrew, thanks! I thought you were going to recommend angling the flash head upwards and use the built in bounce card. This works better. Cheers from a long time subscriber..
Interesting idea 👍. I personally love time lapse photography. Let's hope Andrew make a video on this sooon 😊. In the meantime do stay tuned for more videos. - Rin Othmani, Channel Admin -
Thanks for all of the videos you make!! One question..You are in manual mode and you choose f 1.2, 400 iso and TTL mode on flash and then you play only with shutter speed? Not auto iso but 400, did i get i wright?
Andrew, you said, put your ISO at 400 and then put it on AUTO ISO................ what happens if my ISO is 3200 and then I put it on AUTO? I dont get this part? why 400 and then AUTO? whats the difference if I dont choose 400 and then auto? thank you
Hi sir. sorry for my late reply. This was the trick i used to make the ISO Auto and still have a base for it to work from: ua-cam.com/video/OTTGI6ZEsZM/v-deo.html
@@normameyers4904 Yes!! just follow the link to his response from 8 months ago! =D do it! it is a matter to understand it and going out and trying it thanks Andrew!!
Hey Sir Andrew, I'm a new subscriber thank you for a simple explanation of your tutorial.. But I have a question, in TTL mode when is the right time to use the flash exposure compensation? and what is the difference of camera exp compensation to flash exp compensation? I hope I'm making sense.. btw, in this video what is your white balance?
Whenever there is good even light in indoor I always use direct TTL flash. Nikon's matrix TTL metering system is awesome. It gives excellent result in a very busy and fast action packed events.
I find that it can only be good with the higher end more expensive models. The cheaper ones, i sometimes feel they purposely dumb it down and it can get pretty inaccurate. - Andrew
I like how the video looks completely perfect. What monster of a camera is the videographer using? In this video, the photo camera's flash is being used like a shadow filler, and I think that's a good way to use head-on flash, but using head-on flash at a distance in the dark can sometimes work too because distance will naturally diffuse the light.
I learn a lot from these videos, thanks !!! But...most of the time, the type of photography I do indoors and outdoors, does not allow for much setup, family pictures mostly, adults and kids, most of the time I can only point and shoot...that is why I use a Fuji X100T with its built in flash, just point and shoot, perfect photos almos 100% of the time using the flash !!! My DSLR's do the same, but, need to be set up, no time for that with my family !!! Thanks for your useful videos !!! I did subscribe !!!

Your videos are simply fabulous...sir i have a problem regarding flash photography...am not able to set proper white balance while using flash in indoors and outdoors...many photographers say shoot in raw we can edit in post processing, but i don't want to depend on post processing...please help me how to get proper white balance while using flash
Great lesson!!! I been trying to capture moving car or bike, however i'm always can't get proper focus and exposure. Can you guide me how to properly capture moving subject? Thanks
Hi there, I always enjoy your videos. My night photography leaves something to be desired. Maybe you could do a few night vision videos? Thanks Andrew.
nice channel, Andrew has clever tips. but in this case, I don't understand why he does not simply set the TTL to -1 instead of tricking the exposure to +1. If you have high contrast backgrounds and spotlights (immagine having the sun behind the subject), his method won't work properly...
Another way is to meter the background for proper exposure, which means negative exposure when there’s bright light, then use negative flash exposure compensation on the flash.
@mazar4225 - hiiiii. Andrew here. the reason i went with a slightly more positive exposure on the camera is simple: this will brighten the background. Tuning the flash to -1 will only reduce the brightness of the flash and will not brighten the background. and truly, thanks for leaving us a comment. Love and thanks, Andrew
What is your background is very bright? Backlighting the subject and exposing for the background? Do you still go positive? It can be as the photos will be overexposed on the background then?
thank you for your wonderful tutorial. I didn't know you can use the flash like that. Question related to the same topic. How about venues with very high ceilings, and place is a bit dark? Like a fancy restaurant, indoor, can we use this Setup as well? I am used to bouncing the light at the ceiling or using a bounce card. Thank you!

Hey @Mixfou, You're correct! The ISO was at 400 and Andrew only played with the shutter speed to get the results.

@@normameyers4904 Yes!! just follow the link to his response from 8 months ago! =D do it! it is a matter to understand it and going out and trying it thanks Andrew!!
Camera make ISO 400 as a basic ISO, even you turn on Auto ISO. So didn't make it too bright when the outdoor or too dark when indoor.
Good question
Thanks tips,
EV +1 when use TTL flash, are you use manual mode? Speed shutter below 1/160?
Please how use flash ttl with HSS when SS above 1/500
