Hi David, I'm a flutist and the bottom joint is really hard to remove, any suggestions on what to use to lubricate it or anything i can do to make it easier to remove and put on ?

Boy, that can be several things. It is possible it is not round anymore; or it could be slightly bent. Your best bet is to see a horn repair specialist and have them look at it to fix it correctly. Good luck!! David

Hi, so um I bought a flute from Amazon and I followed your tutorial do you know what like this sharp object is that it came with? Is it it important because I need this for school soon well it’s not that sharp but it looks like a spinny tool kinda thing

If the object is about 12-14 inches long and has a slit at one it is actually your cleaning rod. You would attach a small cloth to it and then run it through the three sections of your flute after each time you play the flute. This will preserve your pads. David

What do you do for cork grease

I actually use chap stick. I put some on my finger and run it over the cork so the headjoint will slide on easier. David

Yep! When oil gets old it actually turns sticky. Have your band director get it to the horn repairmen for some cleaning and get oiled. DK

Hey, My flute came with a very small container with what looks like coconut oil. Can u tell me what it is and what I’m supposed to do with it?

Hello again! If it is a liquid with a small nozzle then it is probably to oil your flute with.

Hello, David! Thaks for your help.
    One more question:
What about the oil composition? Should it be mineral based and not as thick as the ones used on general machines mechanisms?
I see oils being sold and I read the description of the product and can't see much information about the nature of the oil

      Hi!!
Boy-that's a good question. I actually do not know the composition of key oil. I do know that key oil (oil that has made commercially for the sole purpose of oiling woodwind keys) is blended much thinner/finer to be able to work in better. I have only used commercial grade oil for my flutes because of the cost of my flutes. Take care!! David

@@DrDavidandJudiKlee @Dr David Klee, flutist ok. Thank you very much, David. Just another similar questions: for the polishing of silver plated and solid silver, can I use general jewelry polishers? I heard they may be pretty agressive. Or does it have to be specially crafted for flutes, like some solutions that I saw from Yamaha.
And for cleaning an used flute, to remove saliva, I'm accepting to use pharmaceutical alcohol (70%) well dissolved in a microfiber cloth. Is it good?
You're awesome! Have a nice day

      @@floriangrace4281 HI!!!
Some silver polish can scratch the metal and is very abrasive. Other kinds are very mild and do not scar the metal finish. I would be very careful and try the polish on a very small area before using it on the whole flute. I only use the kind made for the flute. David

@@floriangrace4281 Alcohol should work just fine. Just be careful not to get it into the pads. David

Hey, sorry I have a few questions:
One of my Flutes keys aren't sticking, but there is something wrong with them. It takes a few seconds for the keys to lift back up after I use them. What's going on, and can I fix it? I watched this video thinking this was how I could fix this but I'm not quite sure.
Also, I play Piccolo in school and my teacher says I keep playing an octave lower then I am suppose to, but when I hear myself playing I don't hear anything wrong. I'm confused on what he means...
    Thanks, have a nice day!

Hi!! It sounds like either the spring to the key is weak or the shaft needs oil. Either way you need a professional horn repairman to look at it. Sorry!! David
