      Not sure how true this is, but apparently Jessica Alba grew up in a community that shamed her for her looks, told her it was her fault men looked at her perversly and was even once kidnapped from her first movie set. I would LOVE to see a deep dive of her. She is so talented and appears to be such a kind person, it's horrifying to think this may have really happened to her!

    It's so weird seeing things today as an adult that I grew up with as a teenager in the 90's. Alicia Silverstone was one of the girls I wanted to be. Back then it felt like she just kind of disappeared after Clueless. Watching this and learning things I didn't know then is so eye opening. She really was ahead of her time with her attitude and thoughts on Hollywood and life in general. I have such mad respect for her knowing all of this now. She is a true role model, not one that Hollywood just hands to us on a platter. I had no idea she was so young in The Crush and the Aerosmith videos. That's just so crazy to me that that kind of stuff was just seen as ok back then. At least we are trying to improve as a society, even if we aren't all the way there yet and may never be, at least we are striving to be better.

    • @NYCTOSEE
      @NYCTOSEE Рік тому +17

      I wouldn’t say it was seen as ok, as much as it was sexualized and ignored. I’d say Hollywood actively fought to make it SEEM okay. I think the only people it seemed okay to were pedophiles and underaged girls. The fact that people could blame HER for her own over sexualization and being preyed upon is disgusting. Especially considering you can find articles calling movies like the crush gross from as far back as when it came out. Nobody wanted THEIR KID to be preyed upon, but anyone else was “loose” and “wanted it”. If it was seen as okay, everyone would’ve been like “But what’s the issue with that age gap? It’s normal.” The Crush attempts to say it’s WRONG, but because of the child.

      I’m sorry to say, but I think her career didn’t go so well later on… because she kind of lost her looks. Let’s be real, Clueless, Crush, Batman, and these roles she had early on were mostly due to the fact that she was young, blonde and pretty.
      As she got older, I’m guessing no one knew what to do with her anymore.
      By the way, I’m not saying she’s ugly at all… I’m simply pointing out that Hollywood is very shallow. I believe the same thing happened with Cameron Diaz… she had an amazing career… but again, most of her roles banked on the fact that she was gorgeous. As Cameron got older and was losing her looks… she began playing cringey, bitter old women tones until she stopped acting altogether.

      I'm in the industry. Hollywood started getting around child labor laws. They often will film in Eastern Europe where they have less restrictions, can pay extras less, and overall filming is cheaper. Many see the industry as being progressive fighting to get Americans things like healthcare, open borders, and free this and that (paid for by tax payers) but they typically film overseas to save money that could go to Americans as well as illegally hide money abroad which again should be taxed and go to America. It's all for show like being an influencer at a BLM or women's rights protest making sure people take plenty of photos and then upload them on IG lol. They do the same with charity work.

      @Alex-vq9vj 8 місяців тому +1

      That's the industry-thing: kids and younger teens don't really need to be talented in Hollywood at that point. What they need to be is: photogenic, cute, malleable, easily directed and with a good work ethic. And of course compliant to ruthless or neglectful parents who let producers and directors do what they want. Hollywood needs children (as long as they can't just generate realistic-looking, marketable AI performances), but they don't necessarily need to be more than mediocre.
      The bar for acting performances goes up during late teen years, when many kids are promptly dumped due to not measuring up acting-wise or because they go through an awkward looking teen phase physically. Still, the Disney and highschool productions etc need fodder every day. And most productions don't want to go the BH90210-route of the 90s and cast highschoolers with mid-20s to mid-30s old adult actors. So, teen actors it is....
      And then comes the break to adult roles, when you can't get cast as a highschooler anymore. What's expected acting-wise and professionally goes up again: lots of former teen actors get washed out or dropped by agencies at this stage again. Unless they manage a sizeable number of followers on social media or attach themselves to a bigger star romantically, generating publicity and sales.

    When I was 16 my boyfriend at the time was 21. I didn’t think much of it when I was a teenager but now as a adult I’m like… yikes 😳

      That's not a drastic horrible age difference, to me. 16 is not too much of a baby, and 21 year old guys are not men, mentally yet.

      @@Natalie-dx5dv not just drink, high school vs having lived in the world as an adult for at least 3 years, 21 y/os are usually morons and not good at being adults yet, but they sure as he'll know more than a 16 y/o, even a worldly or mature one lol, know a chick who married at 16 to a21 y/o, she's not like... good these days lol and I'd say a lot of it was because she was groomed into marriage before she knew shit. she still thinks like a teen

    It's so sad that she was bullied for gaining weight as she transitioned into an adult when its natural but at the same time it's comforting that she wasn't starving herself to fit a standard. i remember watching clueless as teenager and my body looking like hers and i felt so confident and i thought i looked good in everything and now in my early twenties i compare what i used to look like and feel insecure but i'm healthy and i should embrace it.
