One of my favorite facts about this movie. In the scene where the Grinch expertly pulls the tablecloth, Jim intended to make a mess. When he saw that it didn't go to plan he ran back with cameras still rolling. Knowing this makes me appreciate the scene more.
He straight up did the magic trick where it all stays on the table so expertly but it wasn’t even on purpose 😭 it makes it so much funnier that he went back to mess it up 😂

Fun fact: The makeup process was so mentally and physically taxing for Jim Carey, that they had to bring in an expert who trains FBI agents how to withstand torture just so he could finish filming.
Also that huge grin he does is all Jim Carey, not the makeup. He has incredible facial muscles.

No. All he gets at mt crumpet is unwanted Christmas present, and max obviously was a Christmas puppy that was thrown away and appeared at my crumpet and the Grinch looked after him. It's between the lines but the Grinch does say he's gets all the who's gifts in their garbage.
The whole part where his echo is talking back to him with the "You're an idiot" is classic and awesome

Honestly some days I wish I could live like the Grinch. He’s highly intelligent, strong, and talented. He lives in a private rent free lair in the mountains. Gets daily shipments of free stuff. And spends his free time playing tricks on the local village folk with his helpful pet sidekick. Also no matter what he does he faces no consequences because the villagers are too scared of him.

I love this movie and Jim Carrey even more! Carrey wanted to quit because the prosthetic and eye lenses were too painful, instead they got him a CIA specialist to teach him how to endure torture. Between takes Carrey hit himself in the leg and chain-smoke (though he wasn't one and it normally isn't allowed on set) with a long cigarette-holder so the costume didn't catch fire, telling himself 'it's for the kids' simply to get through filming.
This movie is a masterpiece. This is one of the ONLY examples of creative liberty done right. The writers added a lot of rhymes but they all sound and (more importantly) the feel of Dr. Seuss rhymes. Everything added just feels right.
Thank you boys for this childhood memory! Out of all the grinch movies made I only acknowledge this one because it was my childhood and my favorite one! Also guys if you look back at the scene when Cindy is interviewing Martha May… did you notice the crown on her head? The crown was the present the grinch made her as a child and SHE KEPT IT ALL THOSE YEARS! ❤️ that’s true love and so sweet!! Also notice how she always wears green! Green dresses and green eyeshadow? She was always in love with the grinch even after he disappeared as a child 😊

This movie is absolutely insane! And that's why I love it.
The glass bottle prop he chewed on was actually a resin based one instead of sugar glass. Scott Prop and Roll made a video about it talking with the prop designer on the film.
When the Grinch ripped that table cloth off the table it was a pure accident that the pots and pans actually stayed up there,J.C addlibbed the part where he went back and knocked it all off. There is a theory for this version of the movie of Max. The theory goes that Max might have been one the Christmas presents that was abandoned on near the mountain. The Grinch found him and took him in.
I was 7 when this movie came out and I'm glad to have grown up watching it at least once a year. Thank you Jim Carey for enduring the hours of makeup. 😊❤😊

I remember when this movie came out, it was A BIG THING that year. This was the first, live-action Dr. Suess movie to such a beloved cartoon classic.
The hype was real in 2000. Good marketing and advertising. Christmas blockbuster. 90's Jim Carrey. At his peak. Every family wanted to see this movie.
So tickets were sold out two weeks in advance at almost every cinema, but we were pretty lucky and eventually did get to see it in theaters.

There are theories that the Horton hears a who and how the grinch stole Christmas universes are one, and that the grinch was meant to live on the flower spec instead of the snowflake. He looks a lot more like those characters with all their hair, and story starts with how windy and strange the weather was that night. I’ve never been able to look at it the same since 😂
This is my favorite Christmas movie. It’s the perfect balance of unhinged holiday wholesomeness. Every scene, every line, every bit of physical and emotional acting is perfect.
Another underrated classic is Disney’s Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey. He plays Scrooge and many other characters. It’s also the adaptation that is closest to the book. The animation is fantastic for its time. You should add it to your holiday watch list.
The 2009 "A Christmas Carol" with Jim Carrey is a great movie.

Fun fact: there is a long-lost 4-hour cut of this movie buried in the vaults of Universal Pictures. There is an active petition to release the full cut. The closest experience to said cut is the extended TV edit, which does add an extra 15-20 minutes, running at 2 hours and 5 minutes. Regardless if it is the original 105 minute theatrical release from 2000, 125 minute TV cut that first aired in 2002, or the aforementioned long-lost 240 minute cut, they all received the same rating: "PG" for Some Crude Humor.

Being animators, if you haven't seen it, please check out the original TV special "How The Grinch Stole Christmas!" from 1966. Based on the Dr. Seuss book. Directed by the legendary Chuck Jones (of Looney Tunes/Bugs Bunny fame - he directed classics like "What's Opera, Doc?" and "One Froggy Evening" and "The Rabbit of Seville" and on and on...) Narrated by Boris Karloff. A classic of animation!

I love that even in the suit & with the make up they really highlighted Jim’s facial expressions so well like he can just go crazy and it works his body language & acting is always so fun to see. & the production team really did a hell of a job with this adapting it from the animated movie & it took me years to realize the narrator was Anthony Hopkins😂😂 like wtf lol I never read the actors listed. & it’s sad but the kid actor who played the kid version of the Grinch had a deformity that made him look like a child & he was only 17 or 20 when he passed

Jim almost quit on the first day because of how long he was in the make up chair, he couldn’t face going through it for weeks on end.
The actor who plays the mayor’s assistant is Ron Howard’s brother. When he was directing max he was making fun of Ron Howard who is known for wearing a baseball cap.

I’m so glad Jim was able to power through being in all those prosthetics because this is one of his best roles. He gave depth to a classic cartoon character and still gave a hilarious performance as well. Acting and comedy at its finest. Not a big Christmas movie fan but this is among the few I can’t help but rewatch every December.
My go to movie is usually Elf, and also Rise of the Guardians ( not really a Christmas movie but holiday enough that I still enjoy watching it in December).
Mostly though I just watch Christmas specials of all my favorite shows. I’m definitely adding the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special ti my rewatches every year now.
Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey, helped James Horner write "Where Are You Christmas" and recorded the demo for it, but her ex-husband, Tommy Mottola, blocked Carey's release of the song due to their ongoing legal battle. The song went to Faith Hill instead.
The part where the Grinch pulled the table cloth away without anything falling on the floor was unscripted; that's why Jim Carrey stomped back on camera and pushed everything onto the floor. It's one of my favorite scenes.

I love that you posted this video today. My younger brother loved this movie and had the Grinch's mannerism down perfectly. All through this movie, I could hear his voice in the back of my head. He would have been 33 today. It's a perfect way to celebrate him. I love this reaction!
If y'all want another Christmas movie I highly recommend 2009's "a Christmas carol", it's a motion capture animated film produced by Disney staring Jim Carrey in 3 roles that tells the classic story in a bit of a darker way. I really think you would enjoy it.
This movie and the, original, Santa Clause, are my Christmas go-to movies.
The set design for this movie was unbelievable. It, faithfully, replicated the Dr. Seuss style so well, that you could take a still frame of the town and knowing nothing else, know this was a Dr. Seuss story. You mentioned that they went full in on the characters, and that is why this movie worked so well. If the actors didn't immerse themselves in the, intrinsic, silliness of their roles it would just fail. This isn't a movie where anyone can phone in their performance. It is one of the, very, few times where I believe a live action reimagining ended up better than the original. Honestly, one of Jim Carey's best works.

My favorite christmas movie is We're No Angels starring Humfrey Bogart. It's this really sweet tongue in cheek film about a trio of prisoners who break out of jail and act as christmas angels to the family they are crashing with until they can skip town.

Gosh i haven't seen this movie in so long! I forgot how mad it is. I always remember one of my favourite moments is when Martha gets proposed to and you briefly see the Grinch looking at her kind of vulnerable and it's probably the most sort of "human" and natural he gets for the whole movie and it really gets the gut punch!
Watch this every Christmas Eve, right after home alone. Such a classic... Jim Carrey is perfect for this role 😂

@@oliviarogers2808 That's exactly what the book was about, what do you mean? Not in this exact way, but it was definitely about the meaning of Christmas being about love and spending time with people, not presents, and that's what made The Grinch change.
@@peterlewis2178 I'm talking about the Whos thinking stuff was the true meaning of Christmas. That's what the GRINCH thought they believed which was one of his major motivations for taking their stuff. He hated the noise and in his eyes, they didn't deserve their stuff. Then when they wake up on Christmas morning, they don't even NOTICE their stuff is gone. They don't care. They're just happy it's Christmas. That's what makes the Grinch realize he was wrong.
The Grinch in this movie was completely justified. The Whos are obsessed with Christmas and DO care about their stuff more than anything else about the holiday. Cindy Lou is the only reason they changed their minds at the end.
@@oliviarogers2808 I see the distinction you're making. Though, personally, I really don't mind and kind of like the change. It doesn't really need to be a perfect representation of the book, they can be different things. And it still carries a lot of the heart of the message.

I know many don't like it but I loved watch this movie I use to feel bad for Grinch when he was a kid I thought the gift he made for Martha was thoughtful and sweet and Martha being so into him always made me laugh and if you notice while everyone laughed at him about the shaving she didn't also anyone can tell she never liked the mayor and he was jealous of the grinch
I don't know if you caught this but the party that was going on when the Grinch descended in his little like cradle or whatever, was a swingers party, little bit of adult humour just sprinkled in subliminally :)
Not sure if anyone else has brought it up, but the two old lady's who raised the Grinch were swingers, and the party they were throwing was a swingers "key party", where all the dudes would put their keys in a bowl and the ladies would blindly grab a set and that's who they'd go home with for the evening! Lol

At the beginning when the streets were crazy for Christmas shopping they actually hired professional circus performers for the unicycle and bizarre instruments (to make it look cool but also because they were performers they were less likly to hurt themselves or others in the chaos)
Jim Carey as The Grinch is just perfect, love how this movie elevates the source material, cause the original is pretty much like an animated short and it doesnt really hit you too much, but this sticks with you and its super rewatchable :) honestly watching this movie when its snowing outside, covered in blanket, drinking hot chocolate, perfect time, such a cozy experience :D

I have a Christmas movie recommendation: 2015's "Krampus", starring Toni Collette and Adam Scott. It's a horror film, but it's more of a horror-comedy-fantasy film. And it is SO CHRISTMASSY and atmospheric. I feel like it often gets overlooked this time of year because of its "horror" label, but it has so much more heart and feeling than a lot of modern Christmas films. It easily makes my top 10. I think you guys would love it.

This is the one Christmas movie that I would watch year-round or multiple times a year.
Funny story:
I saw this movie as a little kid, dubbed to swedish.
"Who" in Swedish is "vem".
There is an ACTUAL PLACE in Sweden called Vemdalen, a popular ski resort, witch directly translates to Who valley.
So of course they used that name in the dubbed version, and of course I thought that's where this movie took place.
You can imagine 8 year old Me:s disappointment once I found out it wasnt real 😆

A few fun facts about this film: In the scene where The Grinch pulls the sheet off the table then afterwards knocks everything on the floor was an unscripted moment from Jim. He was supposed to pull the sheet off the table, and everything was supposed to fly all over the place, but he accidentally did it successfully so he improvised afterwards. While filming Jim has said he was highly allergic to the paints they used in his costume and he said he was miserable filming the entire time. Finally the scene at 26:32 where he is pretending to direct Max like a movie director he was actually doing a mock play of Ron Howard the director of this film who always wears a hat while directing.
So fun fact about 19:42 , originally it was all supposed to fall and go flying. But as you saw, Jim Carrey snatched it off like a champ, so he just went back to fix his mistake. That's the take they went with.
