    Fun fact: Brian Henson was only 28-years-old when he directed this movie. He was nervous to ask Michael Caine to act alongside Muppets, but when Caine heard he would be Scrooge, he told Henson, "I’m going to play this movie like I’m working with the Royal Shakespeare Company."
    Genius.

    Michael Caine decided to play Scrooge completely straight. He said there would be no wink to the camara and no acting like this movie was a joke he was in on. He would act as if this was a serious film and all the muppets were Shakespearean actors. He acted his heart out and it really paid off

      Michael Caine has in my opinion has the same amount of love and understanding of acting that Patrick Stewart has. Neither one of them believe in holding back in a performance. They never really act cause they know how to play diverse characters so well. That they don't act they behave exactly like they envision the character to be.

    The Dickens Society have said that this is the MOST accurate film adaptation of A Christmas Carol. There's also a well done youtube video made by a historical costumer where she discusses how every single costume in this movie is accurate to the time period, down to fabrics, colors, and cuts.

    One of the amazing little bits about this film is that the costumes are EXTREMELY historically accurate. The designers went so hard, despite the fact that they were mainly dressing up puppets. Many of the Muppets are flat out wearing Victorian fashion plates from the time, with authentic fabric, and they even went so far as to give Mrs. Cratchit an outfit that was about seven years out of fashion because she was poor.

    I HIGHLY recommend Muppet Treasure Island! It’s a GREAT adaptation, with Tim Curry as Long John Silver and Billy Connolly as Billy Bones, is hilarious. Best of all, the score is done by Hans Zimmer! The opening song, “Shiver my Timbers”, is incredibly dramatic and is one of my favorite Pirate songs to date.

      You can call it the best as a movie but it's not the most accurate adaptation. They cut Scrooge's sister and changed his reason for being at school over Christmas. They made his nephew a jerk. They left out Ignorance and Want and not one but two memorable scenes from the Christmas Future section. It's not a bad adaptation at all but neither is it the most accurate.

      @@JHowesitgoing123 I actually think Alistair Sim is overrated as Scrooge. He has such a comical looking face that I can't take him seriously in the role. (No offense to the man. I'd describe his face as pleasant on its own terms. It just doesn't make me think "Scrooge.")

    • @curtthegamer934
      @curtthegamer934 Рік тому +9

      @@theadaptationstationmaster Scrooge's sister still exists in the movie, she just isn't seen. Scrooge had to have a sibling in order to have a nephew, so it's clear that Fan still exists. Also, I never was under the impression that Scrooge's reason for staying at school over Christmas was changed. We can see from his facial expression after the other students leave that he's sad and lonely and doesn't want to be there. It's clear that he's in denial when he says he doesn't care about Christmas during that scene. As for his nephew being a jerk, that only happens during the "yes and no" scene, which is taken directly from the book.

    I've always found Beaker giving Scrooge his scarf as a gift very touching and heartwarming as it's not just a Christmas gift, it's the first ever Christmas gift Scrooge had ever received in his life and you could see how happy and touched Scrooge is when he is given that scarf and he would probably cherish it for the rest of his days and wear it every Christmas.

    Gonzo and Rizzo leaving at that moment is so effective. There's no jokes during that moment and the comfort of those two leave. It shows that this is a scary and dad moment. English Lit Major here! So:
    "A Christmas Carol" isn't low-key a horror story - it *is* a horror story. Back in the day, it was traditional in England to tell Ghost Stories on Christmas Eve. (That fact makes the lyric in "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" make more sense: "There'll be scary ghost stories, and tales of the glories, of Christmases long long ago.") So when Dickens conceived this book, he intentionally made it a scary ghost story. What elevates it though and makes it a perennial classic, as well as a Christmas staple, is the amount of heart and redemption in it.
    Not through the whole reaction yet, but just wanted to let you guys know that! Enjoying it so far - great stuff, as always! Though this year's "Spirited" (Starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell) may actually be my favorite version of "A Christmas Carol" to date! (Also a musical!)
    Looking forward to the rest of Christmas Season content! (Still hoping you guys check out "Krampus" or "The Santa Clause 2"! And you HAVE to check out "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" too!)

    I'm so sad some versions cut "When Love is Gone." 1. I'm an alto and appreciate how singable it is 2. It makes the emotion Scrooge and Rizzo show when Belle walks off actually make sense because we see Scrooge becoming emotional 3. Michael Caine was amazing in it, and 4. It makes the end song "The Love We Found," a satisfying reprise. They cut it for the theatrical release, then put it back on the VHS (which I grew up with) and then took it off for some DVDs (my DVD copy has a full screen option with it and a widescreen option without it) and then Disney+ initially had the version without the song but they're finally putting up the version with it. The reasons they cut it make no sense. "Kids will think it's boring." Dude, I was bored by "Bless Us All," as a kid and that's still there. "It's too sad." What, and Tiny Tim dying wasn't? Gimme back my alto power anthem! XD

    • @ruffboiALT
      @ruffboiALT 5 місяців тому +2

      the reason it wasn't on the DVD was they actually lost the master, and trying to scan it from the VHS was an obvious dip in quality. They found it again in like 2018 or so, so there's a full version in the "extras" on Disney+ and I think the newer-produced discs have it back in as well?

    What hits so hard about Kermits speech when talking about Tiny Tim, is that it could also apply to Jim Henson in the first movie to be made post his passing. Life is made up of meetings and partings, that is the way of it. You could interpret it as them mourning the loss of their creator.

    I’m somewhat amazed and impressed that the reaction to _Muppet Christmas Carol_ has been gaining more momentum and attention in views since November of last month and the beginning of this month, because I remember that back in the beginning of August, the reaction was sitting at 42k views and only went up to another 1k views every 3-4 weeks. Then by November 10 onwards where it was sitting at 46k views, the view algorithm increased and started getting new 1k views every 7-12 days to 1-3 days. Now their reaction to _Muppet Christmas Carol_ is now at 60k+ views.
    I guess the folks are right that it’s easily one of the best Christmas Carol adaptations and Muppet films. Still with James December 6 announcement video that the *White Noise Reacts* channel is officially ending, it saddens me and is emotional that this is the group’s first and so-far only _Muppet_ movie reaction on the channel, cause I was so looking forward to seeing James, Nobu, Stella and Hayley’s reacting to the other Muppet movies such as _Muppet Treasure Island, The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper,_ the 2011 _Muppets_ film and _Muppets Most Wanted_ with their own thoughts and opinions on those movies and how they fare against _Muppets Christmas Carol_
    I’m still optimistic that Hayley, Stella and Nobu, mainly the former two will get to react to the other Muppet films someday.

    One of my favorite facts about this movie is that the costumes are about as historically accurate as you can get, even on the muppets. They could have cut a lot of corners in that area and still had it read well on screen, but instead they used actual fashion plates from the time to design the outfits and they dressed every muppet that’s wearing clothes in multiple layers of individually created clothing pieces and undergarments. The level of care and detail they put into it is astounding.

    Before Coca-Cola got hold of Christmas and turned it into a marketing-based holiday, Christmas was a sort of second Halloween, with ghost stories being an integral part of celebrating. Dickens was using that tradition to create a treatise on wealth disparity and the callousness of the upper classes in Victorian society. That's why A Christmas Carol in general has horror-esque elements.
