We also need to give Jim all his flowers because being in that makeup was literal pain for him I believe he said the contacts alone was the most painful can’t really remember but they brought in a torture specialist I believe to help him though the pain of it all also that smile is ALL JIM he literally is the grinch lol
Yes and something else that will increase your respect for him is that those yellow eyes he had were yellow contact lenses that covered his whole eyes and they were uncomfortable as hell
The first day of the Grinch makeup took 8.5 hours to get on. Imagine spending a work day sitting in a chair. I don’t blame him for nearly going insane.

Carrey also literally refused to not wear the outfit, as he said that he needed to look like the character and nothing less would be better. Howard ended up coming to work one day with similar makeup to suffer with him and Carrey was very touched by that.
I'll let you in on a cool easter egg in the movie. During the scene where Cindy Lou is interviewing Martha May about the Grinch, we can see there are jewels in her hair. These are the same jewels the Grinch used in the Christmas present he gave her before it was broken. She wears them in honor of her love for him. What a sweet gesture and a nice touch to her character.
Not to mention she wears green eyeshadow throughout the movie
27:22 I love Ellie's face when the Grinch says, "I wanna pony so I can ride it twice, get bored and sell it to make glue!"
I can only assume she either just found out at that moment that horses have been killed to make glue or she was just reminded of that dark fact. I honestly don’t know how it’s even possible to kill a horse for glue.

I love the way Jim Carrey sang the iconic song "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" while adding his own comedic elements to it like the hilarious sound effects. And his freak out when the sleigh takes off. "We're going to die!! We're going to die!! I'm going to throw up, and then I'm going to die!! Mommy, tell it to stop!!"also I really love how the actress who played Cindy Lou, Taylor Momsen went on to be the front woman and lead singer of a band called The Pretty Reckless. also, I can sympathize with the Grinch, having been a victim of bullying growing up. I know the feeling of not liking people because of it.

I love how the ladies enjoyed this movie without knowing the original Dr. Seuss story. I laughed when Michelle said about halfway through that this reminded her of a cartoon. Jim Carrey does a fantastic job as the Grinch but my Christmas wish is for them to see the original which after all these years still holds up

When Grinch had Mayor Who kissed Max's rear was Jim's idea because of his twisted sense of humor.....lol Jim improvised some scenes during filming such as pulling tablecloth and still knocking dishes off after they didn't go off the table then he improvised a scene with Max directing Max how to act like a Reindeer with Grinch (Jim) as movie director, Ron Howard. Ron Howard is known for wearing baseball caps on movie sets.
By the way, all of you should see and react to Ron Howard's previous career before he started his second career as a TV and movie director. Ron as Ronny Howard when he started out as a child actor 1st with Andy Griffith's show as Opie Taylor to as a teen in Happy Days as Richie Cunningham. Ron has spent his whole life in entertainment business since he was 5. His brother, Clint Howard also started out child actor too. Clint worked in both TV and movies. He worked in his brother's movies like this one as Mayor's assistant.
Ron's daughters, Bryce Dallas and Paige are actors too. Ron and Clint's father, Rance Howard who gotten his kids into acting. Rance also was in his son, Ron's movies too.
I am very very glad you enjoyed this movie! This movie was a huge part of my childhood growing up. And it has 2 of my most favorite Christmas songs ever. If you’re interested in more Christmas films, I’d like to recommend these for next year: Christmas with the Kranks (Tim Allen and Jaime Lee Curtis), Deck the Halls (Matthew Broderick and Danny Devito), The Polar Express, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square.

This Grinch has aged like wine. It took time but this movie has totally grown on people. I dare say its becoming just as much of a classic as the original. Now, this is who (no pun intended) i think of when i see or hear of Cindy Lou Who.

Before the Grinch baby arrived at the doorstep where the two old maids later took him in, although not shown…
They show a clip of people throwing keys into a bowl.
This was something they did during Swingers parties in the 70s and maybe into the 80s. Couples would throw each of their keys into a bowl, and later, they would pull out a set of keys. Whoever that set of keys belonged to, you would have sex with him or her. Swinging.
It’s pretty amazing that Ron Howard included this, and it’s never been edited out after so many years.
I think it’s because most people just don’t understand the significance of it, let alone kids.
I looooooved this movie as a kid well actually I still do and still watch it and I was low key always on the grinch side lol but when I got older and kept watching it I realized I was right to be on his side because okay he was different so what The Who’s were bullies and bullied him into hating everything and everybody

Even though The Grinch is a movie for kids and so any cartoon version for kids is technically better, you have to admit Jim Carey did an amazing job of making an adult version of The Grinch which felt believable. And the child was very good in her role as well.

When the baby grinch arrives and you see the adults putting keys in a bowl it’s a reference to a key party which was basically wife swapping, men would pick a set of house keys out of the bowl and get to go to the home with the wife who lives there are I have sex, it was a big thing in the 70’s.

27:30 My problem with the Whos in this movie is that they all just very soulless and greedy and only care about material stuff (in the book and the original TV special with Boris Karloff, the whos are supposed to be the complete opposite of the grinch, they’re nice, joyful, good hearted, and already know the true meaning of Christmas)
I get it that is the point in the movie of them being soulless I get it, but that kind of goes against the point of the book itself. The grinch shouldn't have to be the one who spells the message out for them, *he's the one who's supposed to learn the lesson.*
The movie got it so backwards and you honestly side with the grinch in that scene after everything you saw in this film tell me you don't understand why he thinks christmas is so stupid, he's absolutely right.

Part of the reason why Jim Carrey the entertainer is so amazing and one of the biggest stars ever is because he’s NOT CORNY! He’s the complete opposite of it. He’s one of the most (if not, the most) amazingly talented entertainers in cinema history and that’s what made Ace, the Mask and Dumb & Dumber such incredible movies… the complete opposite of corny.
Since you don’t seem to know the definition of corny, I’ll tell you… it means “not very good; cheap; laughably bad” and as I just said Jim Carrey and his work are the complete opposite of that.
But unfortunately now, he’s past his prime and only does movies that are pretty much corny such as Sonic the Hedgehog which is for kids… which is definitely not what he did back in his prime

It is said that in the scene where they are making the Grinch taste test all of that pudding they really were stuffing it all down Jim Carrey's face to the point where he got sick and vomited the next scene where he's in the chair looking all sick is a really Jim Carrey sick about to vomit.
