I have about 7 impact drivers. I have the dewalt and makita you have. I also use the milwaikee 12v 4 in 1. I have another dewalt one that's a little longer but waaaaay skinnier. It's skinnier thann than the makita and it's my lightest impact. I forget the model num. I got it when I bought a 7 piece dewalt kit a few months ago. I have the XDT16 before I got the new 19 with the XPH14 hammer drill. I use new 12v milwaukee surge impact. And today I just bought the black Makita XDT18. I wanted to try that out. Because it's similar to my CXT 12v Makita I got years ago. Makita may not have the most power. But they have the quietest, smoothest, longest lasting motors in. I don't think I've ever had an issue with a single a makita tool I've ever owned. Honestly....Rigid is where I've the most problems with drivers and drills. Their hammer drill chick's constantly slip gears and go out Al together. Their impacts won't keep a hex bit locked in. You don't see those things with Makita. I like Dewalt. I think that's the best set of power tools for the price. But if you want the best out of the main 4, it's Makita not a close second. Milwaukee tools are waaaaaaaaaaaay over priced. I don't understand Milwaukees absurd prices on everything. Makita high prices you actually see the difference. My toddler daughter is terrified of all my power tools, especially my impact drivers....I've pretty much have switched to everything Makita because it's the only power tools Shes not afraid of. I can only use a Makita drill driver in my house or she will start crying lol. Small things like that are a big deal at my house. The new 19 driver, she actually wants to play with it
I've had the XDT16 for a few years. Picked up the DCF850 when it first came out and I run it on my work truck mostly. In my circle of workmen there are several Milwaukee Gen 3's and at least one surge. I can confidently say the XDT16 is the best impact driver I've ever used, by a long ways. My only complaint, and it's a big one, is that Makita doesn't use a quick eject collet. As a one-man-band who's often time switching bits on the fly, I love being able to eject the bit with one hand.
Definitely agree!
with practice it is pretty easy. im hard pressed between the dcf850 and the tdt173 as to my favorites. i hardly ever reach for my milwaukee gen 4 . its just bulkier and not as ergonomic. and the light on the tdt173 is ohhh so gorgeous!!!
Awesome review. Most of the reviews on impact drivers are speed and torque. I like some finesse with my impacts. Makita seems to understand that more than other companies.
Thanks 👍
Good comparison, I am planning to upgrade my XDT14 to a XDT19, I have used the DeWalt but the Makita Impacts just feels so much more smoother and precise even if its the most powerful.
Totally agree
For me there seems to b too much crap on the 19. If the 14 was stronger i would stay with that... But that's why I'm watching this...
Just scored the xdt19 in the combo kit definitely impressed with the engineering in Makita and details compared to the Dewalt
I love the sub compact, it's smooth light & powerful, great combo with an 2.0 amp battery.
Looking at the makita prices in stores shows just how good the deals are at Lowe's getting the Metabo HPT.
Great job on a thorough review!
Does the XTD19 have the light ring?
Thanks, no light ring, just dual LEDs. The new TD173 has the light ring.
288 kit has the 19, just picked it up on Amazon
The XT288T? On Home Depot and Amazon, it says it includes the 16
Nice comparison. Any chance you could add metric equivalents in subtitles or somewhere else for those of us who don't live in the USA, Liberia or Myanmar?
So I just bought the 288 kit. The box stated the 16 was included, but instead found the 19. Also, there was no documentation and the belt clip bag was open. This tells me it was a return. They looked unused. This whole thing is confusing
the japanese version of the xdt20 is out now, td173, it has a led light ring, full 360 degree illumination!
I did a few videos on it, check them out.
The XDT19 is a little different from the TD172, right? Are there performance differences?
NOPE, one is made in japan and arguably might have better QA and capacitors/internal workmanship. but this is debatable@@CakeZRqGoTR
What driver bit is that you’re using and where did you purchase it thanks
Makita XPS, got them at Home Depot, however the best bits I have used are the Bosch bits from Lowes.
Should I go with Makita GDT01D or Makita XDT19T? Thank you!
Good question, I went with the XDT19 because it's cheaper and smaller. XGT is still pricey.
Bought an XDT19 and it has amazing trigger control.
Then bought a kit with a XDT16 and realized the XDT19 has a much softer trigger and the XDT16 is closer to every other impact, specifically Dewalt.
Is something wrong with one of them?
Nope, the 19 has a very soft trigger. Not my preference but still a great tool. The 16 is my all time favorite impact.
Im not a fan of the xdt19. We got them at work (general carpentry) and i dont like how much minimum torque it has before engaging the hammer function. You either get high speed and high torque, or slug speed and high torque. The trigger is too touchy, plus I get more slip out with this drill than with any other makita impact I've used. And ive used strictly makita for work over 6 years.
I think this should have a lower torque setting with 2 different speeds, instead of some of the more useless settings.
How is yours holding up? I just got the XDT19 from ebay for $98 before taxes. I hope to sell my XDT14 after I get it.
It's been great!
I just picked one up with the set drill, driver and then pack because I had no other choice but they are amazing compared to the black version I had it’s incredible
I got the Original Japanese made Makita TD-172-ZB 18V and the TD-002G 40V all made in Japan 🗾 ⛩️🇯🇵🎎
Nice! How do you like the XGT?
@@UltimateToolReviews I also have the TD172 that I imported about 6 months ago and the TD002 about 4 months ago, in addition to that I have the gen3 milwaukee. I also had a surge that I gave away as soon as I got the 172 because it's way smoother and just as quiet. I've run the TD002 alongside the gen3 milwaukee driving big timberlocks and GRK lags and the XGT is definitely faster, it also has a trigger that is ten times as precise and forgiving as milwaukee. I had planned on getting the gen4 milwaukee impact and hammer drill but now I will just sell them, the TD002 is really the top of the heap in impacts right now, and still, it's the TD172 with a little 2ah battery that I reach for 90% of the time, it's just so feathery light and tiny yet will still drive anything the others will, just a little slower than the XGT or milwaukee. I'll probably pick up an XDT19 as a complement to my 172 even though I prefer the black color over the teal. I also ordered another TD002 in army green as a backup to my black one.
The next thing to get for your next review should be the flex impact with their new 3.5ah stacked lithium battery attached, pretty certain nothing is going to touch it for raw power, but the question is how usable in real driving is that power?
Xdt19 in Australia is call the DTD172
I believe this review would be better if you secured the badly warped test block prior to testing. I own the XDT19, but this video did not help me understand the capabilities of each driver. However, the detailed commentary and excellent understanding of the drivers was very useful.
why don't you way them with the batteries.....????
Thanks for the feedback
Dude is an NPC 😂🤣😂🤣 "thank you for your feedback" answer the question 🤡
i pick up peoples gen 3's at work and they just dont feel as nice. milwaukee obviously more grunt wont deny it.
I agree, I was never a fan of the Gen 3, I had the collet fail on me the first day. However the new gen 4 looks promising.
I got mine in a kit on ebay for 180 dollars. Stupid steal.
Iucky
112.98 on Amazon right now
@@americanexpress888 i just got one off Ebay for $105
Great review! I plan to get the 19.
Can you please tell me brand and model # of your scale. Thanks
Its the amazon basics one
@@UltimateToolReviews Thanks
Why weigh them without the battery? You will never use it without the battery so why not weigh it all together
