I was on Facebook few years ago looking into other people's lives...my son asked me to play and I said no I'm busy...later that night I realized that I was to busy watching other people's lives than my own...I haven't been on it since that night... and my kids couldn't be happier....think about it ppl.
It's just 'ultra-crazy' at the moment because of lock-down. People don't have jobs, which is fine for people who never did (not great, of course, but fine), but it's sending 'busy-busy' types of people completely bananas. Lol. (I'm finding that I 'over-comment' on YT and FB lately. Like 'oh, why can't I just shut up?') The rule of thumb is still the same though: 'when we find that we're no longer making sense, even to ourselves, it's time to read a book or watch TV instead'! Or spend some time with actual humans, yes. I almost didn't even think of that. Perhaps that's symptomatic of something-or-other. God bless, anyway. :)
@Happy Go Lucky That's a problem these days: the whole 'you agree with me about everything or you're not fully human' attitude - classic authoritarianism, and wrong every time...

My best friend called my mother and asked in a grave and sorrowful voice, "Is he dead?". My mother was horrified and asked why she thought I was dead. My friend answered "I cannot find him on Facebook". I had deleted my account.
I remember someone recoiling in horror when I said I wasn’t on Facebook, that was 2014 . I was also called “dodgy” for not being on Facebook, by a female
The next time Facebook says it’s too hard for them to remove hate content, remember that they turned off all Australian news at the flick of a switch once.
Because Australian government has no idea what a url is and think posting a url is a licensed to get mugged by any passing law firm in Australia. They should have fought that.
Facebook was originally just a place to share some photos and your list of favorite movies, tv shows, music etc. Then Zuck turned it into "life invader" as the GTA 5 devs have labeled it
It was literally like myspace. Ripped off the idea of myspace mixed in with a bit of "dating site" drama, then it took off into a data hoarding stream for Zucc cause he realised how much money he can make off of our data. I don't blame him partly. He has provided for his family and kids for generations to come. But he has also destroyed his name in the process by being a shill and by bending over to rich cronie investors. I bet he has been blackmailed by said investors as well. He was just a kid. If you watch his earlier interviews he seemed much more genuine about Facebook. Everyone knew that he made it to get laid, but nobody cared because everyone WAS using it to get laid, attend parties, gossip a bit et cetera. It was something new and exciting to be able to connect with all your friends instantly. But little by little hackers and the media started uncovering the underlying layers of Facebook as it kept growing. Uncovering the corruption and the filth. These rich fucks grabbed him and moulded him into a complete monster obsessed with money and data. But he is an adult, and he knew the consequences to his actions, so all the responsibility lies upon his shoulders. If he wanted to change facebook, and be more privacy friendly, Zucc would have done it years ago. But that's the thing...he DOESNT CARE.
I disabled my Facebook an year ago mostly because I was no longer using it to connect with friends but I was watching content shared by big pages and I was replying to comments by people whom I would never meet. It became a useless endeavor. Instagram felt even worse. People who are always happy and living vibrant colorful lives. Come on, that can't be true Twitter is full of opinions of anyone who can say whatever they think is right regardless of truth. It was simply bad for my health. Now I have divorced social media, I have more time for me. I no longer am being affected by some nobody's misinformed comment. I am no longer comparing myself with other's lives. I am happy for someone who enjoys social media but it clearly isn't for me
YT is still good because you can remain anonymous and look at what you want. And you’re not friends with your whole town and extended family on here lol
It is a playground for narcissists. It is a perfect place for shallow people who want to be perceived any way they want without having to do anything but a few surface level pics and comments
I was skeptical of Facebook from the beginning. I knew no company could survive without selling something. I assumed early that it was selling information about its “customers.” I realized early that those who thought they were customers were actually the commodity. I never signed up. Even here on UA-cam, I purposely search opposing opinions. Anytime I fall into confirming my biases, I can see the algorithm attempting to manipulate me. The only way to combat the manipulation is to intentionally search away from its recommendations. As a result, I get recommendations that are in no way congruent. I get recommendations from the far left to the far right, and everything in between. It is the only way to get all the available news. I figure if I get Beau of the Fifth Column and Ben Shapiro recommended at the same time, I am one step ahead of the algorithm. I cannot explain why I sometimes get recommendations for things like ice fishing videos that are ten years old and only have 12 other views.
I have a family member (Trump supporter) who said she only gets her news from Facebook. When she de-activated she said doesn't know where to get news anymore, so she doesn't.
Until Facebook decided to be fascist and ban all news and emergency fb pages in all of Australia. That's where they drew the line for me. As soon as anyone or a company censors a country. You know they are becoming a James Bond Villain. In 1941 Germany called it "Control of information" In 2021 Facebook and Twitter call it "Fact Checking"
FACEBOOK SHOULD ONLY BE USED AS A REMINDER FOR YOUR'S FRIENDS AND FAMILY'S BIRTHDAYS, SO YOU CAN SEND THEM VIRTUAL BALLOONS AND PRETEND YOU DIDN'T FORGET IT WAS THEIR BIRTHDAY.
Underrated comment. Ive been off facebook for like 6 years (sorry to eveyone I definitely didn't wish happy birthday to) but you nailed its only positive purpose
The answer to "How F*cked Up is Facebook?" is Yes. The day Facebook dies is one of the greatest for humanity. People say "Twitter is worse" but Twitter is where facebook was in 2013. There is still time to save it. FB however needs to go.
Abandoned ship, years ago. I prefer my friends and families wish my birthday because they remember it by themselves, Rather than a site reminding them about it.
I guess like anything it has its good and bad but in my very own personal view facebook has hurt peoples socialization skills. Sure Ive kinda kept up with friends who now live far off but otherwise it serves no real purpose for me. And as you said about birthdays and special events too Id rather celebrate them with people that actually know when it is than strangers who are reminded. Its a nice gesture I suppose but those people arent that close to me in real life.
Not really it's just as easy to stop using Instagram and although harder many people have stopped using what's app and started using alternatives such as Signal, I find Facebook services a lot easier to avoid than Google services personally, although I did switch from using the Google search engine to ecosia although I think it still runs on open source chromium software
They bought WhatsApp so they could create 1) Facebook Messenger 2) get more specific data on their users than simply metadata and likes and 3) try to corner the market on messaging apps. This is what makes them a monopoly. I deleted all that stuff though after downloading all my photos and info and zeroing my accounts. I use signal nowadays.
The problem with Facebook is not the platform, it's the people who post on it. There are thousands of social networks, if Facebook went down another would appear to replace it

I understand people giving up Facebook to take up hobbies or focus on family. However I don't understand people quitting Facebook and replacing it with posting on UA-cam.
This is why I stopped using FB and only go on there to see what my family is up to and to steal memes. I don’t use FB more than 5 minutes a week. Maybe even less than 15 minutes a month some months. It’s a weird place where everyone is scared and controlled
I've never joined facebook. Don't really know what it is. I heard it's a way for people from the past to keep in touch and find you to keep in touch. Same. Facebook is completely devoid of entertainment or informative content, they're all just brain fillers. Switching to UA-cam as my time waster is one of the best decisions I've made over the past decade.
The most ironic part is that they told us “put your phone down, live in the real world, don’t believe everything you see on the internet, don’t you know what you write on the internet is in ink and stays forever?” While they spread disinformation, are more addicted to their phones than younger generations, believe everything they read on the internet that agrees with their opinions, and are ruining their entire decades long careers by spreading hate online. The irony is undeniable 😂
My account was banned for 30 days because I shared a NEWS ARTICLE about a famous child actor in our country in a PRIVATE MESSAGE. Goes to show that they're watching everything you're talking about in messenger.
As someone who works as a web developer and got roped into marketing tracking, it's wild how easily and specifically companies can track and target you. They can literally just input a list of email addresses they want to show an advertisement to.
I had 14 years of my life on it. My grandparents, cousin, and aunt that passed away, my marriage, the birth of my son. Out of nowhere, they permanently deactivated my account for …reasons? Never was allowed to download my pictures and never got a response to me asking for an appeal. To this day, they still ignore me. If anything, it’s heartbreaking they have the power to keep you from your own life, basically. All at their whim, and with no given reason.
UA-cam did that to me one day too. Very dirty stuff. All the Left Coast tech companies basically want to use your contacts, photos, videos as leverage against you to force you to follow their Marxist beliefs. They are ultra-disturbing and drunk with power. They were the butt of jokes in the eighties and nineties but now they have all the tech companies and feel they can control our way of life. The worst thing about all this was before all the censorship, people were actually pretty liberal and open-minded. All that is now going the other way...HARD. You call people who are very open-minded racist and keep looking for ways to do so and attack them and guess what, they're not going to like you anymore. Everything they used to compromise with you on is not going to happen anymore. It's not the first time in history this has happened. What was once about progressivism is now being revealed as something that is obviously mental illness dictating policy.
They block you from using any of their services if anyone reports a comment where you cussed... Facebook completely disconnects you from anyone you talk to on their platform if you cuss at all. They also require you to send them all your personal info if you don't want them to delete your account for "impersonating" others. Facebook is by far one of the dumbest ways to waste your time. I recommend you to do drugs rather than Facebook...
But yet my stalker still has multiple posts up where she took pictures of me leaving work and all her friends chimed in saying they would kill me and throw my body in a lake. 3 years later every report is returned with “we didn’t find any violation of the rules”
facebook is technically a government operated public square since it had tax payer money subsidizing plenty of it since its inception, it should guarantee freedom of speech since it accepts government money. Private businesses that do not accept government subsidies can operate as free actors in the market place and can do as they please with their platforms.

Although while I generally agree that businesses shouldn't rely solely on government subsidies to stay open e.g. Coal mines, there are cases when doing so is a good way to increase innovation in particular fields. Such as the subsidies and grants given to hydrogen fuel cell development. Or the subsidies given to phone and electrical companies to build the infrastructure needed to give rural towns the access to those services, in the 1930's. Had those subsidies not been in place the incredibly low profitability/high rates would have likely meant that 90% of those rural communities would have been left without access to affordable electricity and telecommunications.

That one mission is so satisfying.
I disabled my Facebook an year ago mostly because I was no longer using it to connect with friends but I was watching content shared by big pages and I was replying to comments by people whom I would never meet. It became a useless endeavor. Instagram felt even worse. People who are always happy and living vibrant colorful lives.

4 years clean and sober from social media. It is much nicer.
youtube is technically social media
but I understand what you mean, I have also done the same and I agree!
I’ve kept IG in order to keep up with people I actually wanna keep in touch with via their messenger. But the posts anymore on there are just more ads and more posts curated to get you to follow and buy stuff. It’s so annoying.
@Danny Nguyen I also only use youtube and snapchat (only to talk to one person and keep my 611 day streak going haha, the daily streak is a tactic designed to keep you using the platform every day so the streak doesn't end, just like other platforms use other tactics to keep you hooked) and I also occasionally go on reddit too.
I deleted facebook a year ago. Best choice iv made
Abit difficult the first few weeks, but i changed my habbits and my life is better
Its causing a mental health crisis and the invasion of privacy is more damaging than the average joe thinks

Yet you use Instagram and WhatsApp.... owned by Facebook as well. Hypocrite.
10 years ago I deleted my Facebook after constantly being on It. Best decision ever.

I’m glad I finally made the decision to delete all of my social media about six months ago and haven’t regretted it since. Fear of missing out is a real psychological issue and I encourage folks to look into that issue if you may resonate with it. Much love ✨🤘🏼
I stopped using Facebook 2 years ago and I don’t miss it. It just consumed a lot of time... I much rather spend that time on Instagram or UA-cam 👀😂
Instagram is an extension of Facebook. Instagram uses the same Facebook governing policies FYI.
Same. Facebook is completely devoid of entertainment or informative content, they're all just brain fillers. Switching to UA-cam as my time waster is one of the best decisions I've made over the past decade.
Haven't used it in 9 years. It's really not helpful at all.
Don’t spend any time on social media, go build your dreams!
@J Exactly. And you don't have to worry about exposing your habits and opinions to your friends and family in the comment sections.
Facebook died when everyone 40+ started using it 😂
Middle Finger
*normies
The most ironic part is that they told us “put your phone down, live in the real world, don’t believe everything you see on the internet, don’t you know what you write on the internet is in ink and stays forever?” While they spread disinformation, are more addicted to their phones than younger generations, believe everything they read on the internet that agrees with their opinions, and are ruining their entire decades long careers by spreading hate online. The irony is undeniable 😂
I remember when it started and they only let college kids on. They had fliers at my college for it.
Good 😆
Facebook gave me a 24 hour suspension because I shared a 60 minutes Australia video. Lol
Yeah man Australia 🇦🇺 is way too wild and crazy 🤪 for Facebook 🦘🦘🦘🦘
My account was banned for 30 days because I shared a NEWS ARTICLE about a famous child actor in our country in a PRIVATE MESSAGE. Goes to show that they're watching everything you're talking about in messenger.
That’s ridiculous!
JEWbook gave me a 24 hour suspension because I shared a boxing stream match 😂
Not that I'm defending Facebook, but I'm curious to know what that Australia video is about.
Facebook should be closed because all sex traffic goes through Facebook
That's weird.... sounds like someone reported you down
They block you from using any of their services if anyone reports a comment where you cussed...
@@alyserotten1241 hopefully justice gets served and you're able to find peace.

I have been out of Facebook for two years now, and it was - it still is; it will be remained - the best decision I ever made.
I’ve deleted every social media except UA-cam of course, and honestly I feel so out of place but for the better and I couldn’t be happier
I love what she said there “The constitutions states that the government will not infringe on our right to freedom of speech, not Facebook”
facebook is technically a government operated public square since it had tax payer money subsidizing plenty of it since its inception, it should guarantee freedom of speech since it accepts government money. Private businesses that do not accept government subsidies can operate as free actors in the market place and can do as they please with their platforms.
Exactly. The people claiming private entities can’t decide what is allowed obviously haven’t read the constitution. I guess I get it from these people. After all it doesn’t have pictures.
@@artyumdragstov8823 That feels like way too broad of a statement, basically every single business in the USA receives some sort of government subsidy via tax deductions, with that sort of wide definition of government operated I struggle to think of any business that *wouldn't* be included
@@_Atzin Tax code is too complicated. Flat taxes should be all there is to it. There are too many loopholes with the tax code. If you have to rely on government funds to stay a float... you shouldn't be a operating in the first place.
@@artyumdragstov8823 Flat tax so that a billionaire pays the same percentage of their income as retail worker? That's a good way to increase wealth inequality even more.
Let's get that Myspace back bruh!!

I stick to one rule when I’m on social media: I’m here to get entertained and I’m not interested in anything political. I just want to ease my stress and talk about silly things.
thanks that's my new rule
In that case, don't use social media at all.
There are much better ways to be entertained and there are many other ways to talk about silly things.
And yet Political content is entertaining in a silly way.

You really don't even need the weed. I just like to have it.
In general I'm trying to get social media out of my life. I abandoned Twitter and Facebook and now only use UA-cam for news and some light entertainment.
Best decision I ever made honestly. Social media is a fucking mind cancer.
Sàme thing.. you're still using internet... Deleting one social media app don't give you the security you think you have just because you deleted it.. as long as your connected to internet you as vulnerable as those who's using the social media app you just deleted... Even the Pentagon which we think is the most secured place in US..Why? Because they are connected to internet... Their system was hacked through internet... If your concern is social media apps and sites prying your private life and info, then it would be better for you to stop using internet at all...Go send your emails through post mails and wait for a month to receive response
Most people read only one book a year, Facebook.
I’m 37 so I’ve seen the internet through the years. I never used Facebook because I knew that this would be the demise of all mankind. Lol Ain’t so crazy now.

I'm 40 and was born in the Computer age. Never thought FB was a good idea and I was right also. All my so called friends have broken livea
@@ramboray80 First non-negative comment of gotten about this. TY
I hardly use Facebook anymore, pay attention to how many ads and “sponsored posts” you have to go past just to see your feed. It’s beyond a joke.
Deleting Facebook is the best thing you can do to clean the internet
I deleted FB 8 years ago after highschool staff was able to access my account through them. They seen I was selling 10 sacks. My parents who paid 10k a year in property taxes was than raided by 25 squad cars for a half ounce of weed worth 120 bucks at the time.
Omg what a complete waste of time and services.

That is soooo fucked! Glad you shared it though because someone may see it and it save them the hassle and bullshit u had to go through
They shouldn’t allow high school kids on there anyway. At that age people are dumb enough to do things like talk about illegal activities they’re involved in.
When I deleted my Facebook account I was worried I was going to go through withdrawals! But as soon as I got rid of it.. nothing. I don’t miss it at all. I thought it was something important in my life but turns out it’s nothing.
Haven’t been on Facebook since 2014 and while I do have IG, I only log on on my laptop and no longer keep social media apps on my phone. My life has gotten exponentially better ever since
IG sucks
FB owns Ig too.
I have a really hard time deleting facebook so what I do instead is just say something absurdly offensive and get myself blocked for 30 days. All my "friends" think I'm an insane person but im way more productive now.
Am I the only one who uses Facebook for memes and getting notified of Birthdays and nothing else.
You are the meme
And trolling snowflakes, conspiracy theorists and the PC brigades. Its a source of amusement, that is all..
Yes
When I used Facebook back in high school, the memes and online drama with peers from school got me hooked. Now, Facebook is trash loaded with people sharing news articles, real or fake.
I'm proud to say, I'm 1 year sober from Facebook.
This is probably the same guy who posts pictures of his meals, his covid vaccination card and how happy he is that Biden won.

@@theobserver9131 do you mean UA-cam lol. Nice try but that's completely different. Watching something educational like tips on rebuilding my small block 350 or some fishing videos versus getting up in the morning and taking a picture of my breakfast and posting it telling everyone what I'm doing that day or desperately scrolling through trying to see what is going on in complete strangers lives is not comparable. I'm nothing like the rest of the other people out there and the only reason I started watching UA-cam is because I have never had cable and got tired of watching the same DVDs over and over. I was kicked off Facebook a year ago. Best thing they ever did for me.
After the Capitol riots, I stopped using Facebook almost completely. I only went to it once to say thank you to the people who wished me a happy birthday. I don't miss it at all.
