I have stop using Facebook 6 years ago. The reason is, there is so much hate being spread around unnecessarily, making my life stressful. You guys should do it too.
The fact the youtube no longer shows dislikes is pissing me off immensely. It's really hard for people to determine whether a video is causing contention or not, which is actually important.
I've been without Facebook for over five years and trust - when you leave, you will not wish to return. Next step is migrating away from Instagram, as it is owned by and plagued with the same issues.

No matter what you say about the Metaverse (scary as name as well) you will never, NEVER get the same feeling of climbing a mountain in real life or meeting with friends in a restaurant. Some things technology cannot replicate are real feelings that make us happy.
Those feelings unfortunately will be lost as time moves on. It'll be like the transition from vinyl to CD & the response it has from audiophiles. You don't hear those complaints anymore. It's scary.

It’s possible that it’s not just about the money for him. I know I personally dreamed of becoming a billionaire for a long time, but if I had I would have used most of the money for social change. It wasn’t about the money for me, but about (a) the creation of it, or more specifically, the creation of products and services that were adopted widely enough to earn that kind of money, and (b) the good that I could do with the money. Am I saying that’s the case in Zuck’s case? Not at all. Just saying it MIGHT be about more than the money for him. There might be excitement in the building itself.

The core of the problem is Facebook needs the information bubble in order to maximise monetisation from online presence. Unless you drastically change the underlying algorithm, no amount of policing will help. This change would automatically halve the company's revenue, which is why it will never happen.

I was addicted to technologies until I turned 42, then all of a sudden I re-discovered the immense pleasure of reading and taking time to live (drawing, cooking, being outdoors all summer long). I could not care less for any of these soul crushing experiences anymore. Seriously people, live life as it it was still 1999. You can use Google and youtube and all to educate yourself (tons of cool tutorials, documentaries on just about anything you care about) but nothing else....the rest of the time you should be unplugged. Live YOUR life, find out who YOU are, don't watch the lives of others online; nothing good can come from it.

@@wokk9543 Trust me, very few people have a life beyond a few very extroverted people. You will have a life in time, but I understand your frustration. UA-cam and most forms of social media are addictive by design so don't be too hard on yourself. I know this will sound cliche but you don't want to have a life now. The second you have school and other obligations its easy to fall off the wagon. I'd recommend focusing on your studies, get through middle school and high-school. Once you survive that it will get better. I actually made most of my friends at my job.
As someone who doesn't use any social media other than UA-cam, I'm not sure why people can't pull themselves away from the thing that is so obviously ruining their lives. Not that UA-cam is innocent in all this either.

Social platforms are carefully designed to be as addictive as possible. Even the blue tones used in the UI convey a "welcoming" feeling to our brains that's we're not concious of. That's also not to mention the casino based refresh feature, unpredictable notifications, and more.
I somewhat agree with you, but (aside the fact that it's addictive and etc.) the thing is that many people have to use it because their source of income depend on it. I, for example, don't use them personally, but I have to work with them. Many small business and stuff like that now depend on these platforms to get clients and sell their stuff. It's a sad reallity.

Just so people understand: in the metaverse (which is just a glamorous name for VR), we move our bodies and heads. This data about why, when and how we move and how we react, can then be used by governments in the real world, through surveillance cameras for example, by pairing it with Artificial Intelligence, to predict how we will behave even before we have taken the decision to do something. It is absolutely terrifying.
The government already knows how people will react to things before they happen. They've been taking data on us for decades now. This isn't new and this isn't going away. What the metaverse is looking like is how we imagined online gaming was going to become. We've seen this future for years now. Now it's starting to come to fruition. Take advantage of it now to get a head start in it
Facebook is like a drug to a lot of people... my mum and Dad who are in their 60s can't even visit my house without looking on there phones. I can't stand Facebook or even Instagram knowing how mental health is declining due to people feeling they need to constantly show this perfect side of themselves.

I don’t think children should be on social media. After a certain age it would be difficult to stop them from making one behind your back. So allow them to have one so you can monitor it. Talk to your kids about the dangers of social media with adults. Build strong relationships with trust with your children and be proactive. It starts with the parents. I hope all is well

Yeah I quit cut off most social media about 3 years ago. No no more checking updates or uploading photos or status. The only people that need to know whats going on are the people around me, and it should be that way for everyone else as well.

I have struggled for so long due to it, and now that I've finally deleted the accounts, I have never felt so better. Please, we don't need an "upgraded" version of what we have to deal with now, this is just gonna create hell.

I left social media 5 months ago. It was hard at first because of the dopamine withdrawals. When I was zoning out I would literally pull my phone out and my thumb would automatically scroll to where the Facebook app icon was in my phone. This went on for a few weeks but now I'm on the other side of it and I don't miss Facebook and IG at all. I don't miss any of it. I've been social media clean and only have UA-cam and Email. Quality of life has been so much better.

any product that harms children gets pulled from the shelves. the problem w/facebook is that it's so big, you don't just need a blue ribbon panel to investigate it- you need an *army* of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, lawyers & IT analysts across multiple countries to investigate it.
Well, to use FB you have to be 13 years or older. It is also heavily advised for kids 12 and under to not use VR as it will be harmful. Parental supervision is key.
I understand your point. but first of all, there are plenty of products still available that harm children in a myriad of ways as their are plenty of products that harm people in general that are allowed to exist despite their non-relevance and or potential dangers. And secondly. There is no agency in charge or otherwise that is genuinely “interested” in investigating and controlling or “policing” organizations like Facebook, because they know at the end of the day that organization’s such as Facebook are and have always been essential to control mechanism’s such as, but not limited to nation states. And lastly controlled opposition is a business plan not a deterrent. if they really had a problem with organization such as these they would be eliminated and not allowed to exist as has been the example time and time again when something doesn’t serve a desired public Narrative.
Same, I deleted my FB page years ago. Saved my self so much time for living life, instead of starring at a screen. Earned my scuba,open water certification; expanded my little library of tangible books. Advanced my career, payed more attention to my wife and friends face to face. So happy I deleted my FB page. No substitute exists thats as fulfilling as face to face interaction. Also, side note. I stopped thinking and obsessing about how my life appears to other people. I stopped thinking about myself all the time.

Last week I got blocked for 3 days for jokingly saying "I would throw a shoe to that guy", in Portuguese. In my language, the expression is a colloquialism, not intended to be taken literal and is often used in a joking context. FB flagged it as "incinting to violence". I've been blocked two other times, for very similar reasons. Made an appeal everytime, to no avail. They don't even bother to acknowledge they are wrong. These guys are so worried with blocking hate speech that they've started censuring people for the most idiotic reasons, while the hate speech continues, often disguised.
I think we are going to find social media as a whole has a major impact on self esteem/depression not only in children but adults as well. It’s scary thinking about what our world will look like in 10 years. Just remember how much the world changed from 2000-2010.
I always had the feeling that I won't recognize the world when I'm old. Technology goes faster and faster. When my grandpa was a child nobody owned a car or tv. Nobody could have dreamed up a smartphone, so I believe technology in 50 years will be indistinguishable from magic.
Thats already been the case for at least the past 5 years as it is. I agree that it will only get exponentially worse, I mean, I'm not trying to be a debbie downer but it's the truth.
edit: I made this comment before I watched the video, and they made the exact same tobacco analogy I did...not sure if I should feel smart or dumb yes, we are only just now starting to grasp how harmful social media can be, especially on younger people. I think that sometime soon, maybe in 50 years, we're going to look back at how we use social media at this moment, in a similar way to how we now view people that smoked cigarettes in the past. people used to think cigarettes were fine, it wasn't until later that medical science caught up and realized what was happening. but now it's a psychological issue instead, and as our knowledge in that field advances, I think we're going to discover just how deleterious social media is to our mental health. then we'll be shocked we didn't have the common sense to see it at the time, the same way it seems so obvious that people should have known how bad smoking was half a century ago. just a guess.
As a south african, when we experienced the July riots this year, misinformation and false claims were sent through Facebook and other social media owned by Facebook. This caused mass panic and infighting. I saw this with my own eyes.

I fully support the work of FB and Google. We can already solve world hunger, homelessness, lack of power, internet, transportation. It's just not profitable to help people who have nothing to give back except their time. So that stuff is on us. And as for their chosen focuses, I personally want to download my brain into a quantum internet and live for as long as I choose to. The general term of metaverse (not Zuck's own "Meta" and attempt to monopolize on it) may prove to be an exciting and well integrated piece of technology and CREATIVITY for our current systems. The digital realm of gaming has been virtually unscathed by advertisements and money grabs (enter World of Warcraft followed by its predecessors). Yet, if "gaming" consists of too many unpopular real world monopolies and or CONTROL tactics, there will be an uprising to protect our identities and individual rights to the constitution and personal sovereignty. I believe this is a struggle we are CURRENTLY playing ▶️ out, and the end result is yet to be determined. The older I get, the more distance I wanna put between me and the online world. Don't get me wrong: UA-cam is a wonderful platform to share knowledge and learn, as are many other learning platforms. Any other place where you seek social approval or to impose your opinion on others, however, is cancerous.

This vidoe is so shallow. It's not like if Facebook is gone, everything will be fine. People will find a way, especially we already have technical capacity. Not defending Facebook, but this documentary is disappointing and not creative at all.
Look at the damage social media has done to society, it's literally got so out of hand it is considered normal behaviour now to be triggered and offended all the time.. technologies as good and helpful as they are, they also have downsides and so far they have been terrible for the human psychology or society in general, literally destroying families and relationships.. I hate to think the same effect this will have on our species in the years to come.
See, I've grown up on social media and I've noticed the same people that say "it's considered normal behavior now to be triggered and offended all the time" are the same people that make social media so detrimental for us as a society. @@777am6 it's 2022 and I'm in my 30s, I think majority of people my age and especially younger know nothing else apart from social media, that doesn't create natural emotions, empathy, compassion etc if anything it creates psychological issues, people don't understand boarders or time outs anymore, or its everybody else is fault etc..which goes back to my original point, it makes all the 'triggered' emotions just seem normal, self responsibility seems to be fading and it's becoming a cultural blame it on everything else.. sometimes information will set us free but other times to much of certain information can blind a person, social was meant to connect the world but it being so much on a daily basis its starting to show the cons to it all, each year the evidence grows.
Reading and hearing about metaverse is what tipped me over the edge to deleting Facebook and all other social medias I have. I can't recommend it enough!
The best solution in my opinion is to break up Facebook. The fact that nobody is making this argument just shows the amount of influence Facebook has over our politicians and the people that use their platform

It funny how about 8 years ago I was called a weirdo for not having a face book account. To this day I still dont have a FB or insta account. I feel like Im living a stress free life while those on social media are suffering anxiety problems being something they are clearly not.
Same here I am not on any of those and have never been but I am not so sure about myself since I use WhatsApp which is a very cheap medium of communication for me and I have no choice but to use it so I think somehow they will extend that to WhatsApp and maybe even UA-cam if possible. I was an owner of the Rift 1 VR headset. When FB set the requirement to have FB login on the upgraded models, I decided to pay more than double the newer headsets (Quest, Q2) for a competitor model solely to steer away from this nonsense.

Even though it seems that most people here are against the Metaverse, we all know that there are hundreds of millions of people worldwide who will thrive off this new platform. It all revolves around online, virtual clout, and if the Metaverse provides a platform for people to show off what they have in their online world, it will attract many. I truly believe that the world would be a better place without the likes of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I believe we're at a time of human existence where we need to REGRESS in some way. I'm an advocate for new technology, but in a world where we're as unhappy as ever, something needs to change. And I'm not saying let's regress to 19th century conditions, just times like the late 90s. A good level of human happiness, with many life changing and saving innovations still coming out.
Coming to think of it, I believe the only way we can go is forwards. I believe our technology will eventually outgrow the format of contemporary social media. I would give anything to understand the motivations behind some of these projects. At this point, for any of these people, it's not about the money anymore. They couldn't spend even half of their wealth if they tried. Do they really think this is what the world needs? If they truly think they're helping anyone other than themselves, I think we all need to re-think how we view intelligence. At the end of the day, Facebook and Google have proven time and time again that they shouldn't be allowed to control a market and it keeps happening. These guys are allowed to operate any way they choose so we either have to put a stop to it or just stop complaining about it.
I stopped using FB when I found out they blatantly allow human trafficking on their site in countries like Qatar where officials look the other way. One person can't change the world but I felt it was the right to leave their site.
For me it was when using the app they listen. My coworker and I over break were chatting about trash removal whilst he was browsing FB. A few minutes later he showed me on the bottom of his cellphone screen was an ad for trash removal bins you could rent. 😬

That's fact. I have friends from other countries and what they see on Facebook is completely different from what I see in the US. I understand that what we like affect what we see on fb but they told me the contents they see aren't even moderated. Pure raw images of violence, dead bodies, etc. People just share images without restrictions while some creators in the US create a post with controversy and they get fb jail.

a month ago, i attempted to share a meager "...is watching a movie" activity on Facebook. I was watching House of A Thousand Corpses. The post itself was flagged, and i got a notification that the post goes against its "Community standards", which lead to a warning of my personal FB account. I shrugged it off and moved on. nearly 3 weeks later, i got a notification that FB made a mistake and allowed the post to then to be published. ...lol, as if such an activity was so important. and yet FB seems to have zero actual moderation on things like hate speech, anti-establishment, etc. This goes to show how brutally flawed its censorship is.

No matter what you say about the Metaverse (scary as name as well) you will never, NEVER get the same feeling of climbing a mountain in real life or meeting with friends in a restaurant. Some things technology cannot replicate are real feelings that make us happy.

I was addicted to technologies until I turned 42, then all of a sudden I re-discovered the immense pleasure of reading and taking time to live (drawing, cooking, being outdoors all summer long). I could not care less for any of these soul crushing experiences anymore. Seriously people, live life as it it was still 1999. You can use Google and youtube and all to educate yourself (tons of cool tutorials, documentaries on just about anything you care about) but nothing else....the rest of the time you should be unplugged. Live YOUR life, find out who YOU are, don't watch the lives of others online; nothing good can come from it.

UA-cam and most forms of social media are addictive by design so don't be too hard on yourself. I know this will sound cliche but you don't want to have a life now. The second you have school and other obligations its easy to fall off the wagon. I'd recommend focusing on your studies, get through middle school and high-school. Once you survive that it will get better. I actually made most of my friends at my job.

Social platforms are carefully designed to be as addictive as possible. Even the blue tones used in the UI convey a "welcoming" feeling to our brains that's we're not concious of.

I somewhat agree with you, but (aside the fact that it's addictive and etc.) the thing is that many people have to use it because their source of income depend on it. Just so people understand: in the metaverse (which is just a glamorous name for VR), we move our bodies and heads. This data about why, when and how we move and how we react, can then be used by governments in the real world, through surveillance cameras for example, by pairing it with Artificial Intelligence, to predict how we will behave even before we have taken the decision to do something. It is absolutely terrifying.
This is already a possibility in cell phones.

Facebook is like a drug to a lot of people... my mum and Dad who are in their 60s can't even visit my house without looking on there phones. I can't stand Facebook or even Instagram knowing how mental health is declining due to people feeling they need to constantly show this perfect side of themselves.

I don’t think children should be on social media. After a certain age it would be difficult to stop them from making one behind your back. So allow them to have one so you can monitor it. Talk to your kids about the dangers of social media with adults. Build strong relationships with trust with your children and be proactive. It starts with the parents. I hope all is well

Well, we need to take responsibility when using Facebook or Meta. As parents, why do we allow or kids to have a FB, Tiktok, or any other social media accounts? All these problems can't be blamed on FB alone.

I have struggled for so long due to it, and now that I've finally deleted the accounts, I have never felt so better. I never had Facebook
I left social media 5 months ago. It was hard at first because of the dopamine withdrawals. When I was zoning out I would literally pull my phone out and my thumb would automatically scroll to where the Facebook app icon was in my phone. This went on for a few weeks but now I'm on the other side of it and I don't miss Facebook and IG at all. I don't miss any of it. I've been social media clean and only have UA-cam and Email. Quality of life has been so much better.

There is no agency in charge or otherwise that is genuinely “interested” in investigating and controlling or “policing” organizations like Facebook, because they know at the end of the day that organization’s such as Facebook are and have always been essential to control mechanism’s such as, but not limited to nation states. And lastly controlled opposition is a business plan not a deterrent.

Same, I deleted my FB page years ago. Saved my self so much time for living life, instead of starring at a screen. Earned my scuba,open water certification; expanded my little library of tangible books. Advanced my career, payed more attention to my wife and friends face to face. So happy I deleted my FB page. No substitute exists thats as fulfilling as face to face interaction. Also, side note. I stopped thinking and obsessing about how my life appears to other people. I stopped thinking about myself all the time.

I've been blocked two other times, for very similar reasons.
Made an appeal everytime, to no avail. They don't even bother to acknowledge they are wrong.

I think we are going to find social media as a whole has a major impact on self esteem/depression not only in children but adults as well. It’s scary thinking about what our world will look like in 10 years. Just remember how much the world changed from 2000-2010.
I always had the feeling that I won't recognize the world when I'm old. Technology goes faster and faster. When my grandpa was a child nobody owned a car or tv. Nobody could have dreamed up a smartphone, so I believe technology in 50 years will be indistinguishable from magic.

yes, we are only just now starting to grasp how harmful social media can be, especially on younger people. I think that sometime soon, maybe in 50 years, we're going to look back at how we use social media at this moment, in a similar way to how we now view people that smoked cigarettes in the past. people used to think cigarettes were fine, it wasn't until later that medical science caught up and realized what was happening. but now it's a psychological issue instead, and as our knowledge in that field advances, I think we're going to discover just how deleterious social media is to our mental health. then we'll be shocked we didn't have the common sense to see it at the time, the same way it seems so obvious that people should have known how bad smoking was half a century ago. just a guess.
As a south african, when we experienced the July riots this year, misinformation and false claims were sent through Facebook and other social media owned by Facebook. This caused mass panic and infighting. I saw this with my own eyes.

The older I get, the more distance I wanna put between me and the online world. Don't get me wrong: UA-cam is a wonderful platform to share knowledge and learn, as are many other learning platforms. Look at the damage social media has done to society, it's literally got so out of hand it is considered normal behaviour now to be triggered and offended all the time.. technologies as good and helpful as they are, they also have downsides and so far they have been terrible for the human psychology or society in general, literally destroying families and relationships.. See, I've grown up on social media and I've noticed the same people that say "it's considered normal behavior now to be triggered and offended all the time" are the same people that make social media so detrimental for us as a society. Same people that usually lack any basic form of empathy, compassion or common sense.
@@777am6 it's 2022 and I'm in my 30s, I think majority of people my age and especially younger know nothing else apart from social media, that doesn't create natural emotions, empathy, compassion etc if anything it creates psychological issues, people don't understand boarders or time outs anymore, or its everybody else is fault etc..which goes back to my original point, it makes all the 'triggered' emotions just seem normal, self responsibility seems to be fading and it's becoming a cultural blame it on everything else.. sometimes information will set us free but other times to much of certain information can blind a person, social was meant to connect the world but it being so much on a daily basis its starting to show the cons to it all, each year the evidence grows.

It funny how about 8 years ago I was called a weirdo for not having a face book account. To this day I still dont have a FB or insta account. I feel like Im living a stress free life while those on social media are suffering anxiety problems being something they are clearly not.

Same here I am not on any of those and have never been but I am not so sure about myself since I use WhatsApp which is a very cheap medium of communication for me and I have no choice but to use it so I think somehow they will extend that to WhatsApp and maybe even UA-cam if possible. Anyway I don't understand how this whole thing works so I am just making wild assumptions though I feel the safest people are those who never use any online platforms.

The Metaverse will consist of 2 options: Many people will happily participate in the Metaverse where they can interact with people, party, buy, explore without ever dealing with the real world (just like many kids rather play online games than do something real) The flip side is that due to the C virus people will be FORCED to participate in this project. I was an owner of the Rift 1 VR headset. When FB set the requirement to have FB login on the upgraded models, I decided to pay more than double the newer headsets (Quest, Q2) for a competitor model solely to steer away from this nonsense.
I think the future we're probably going to have to grapple with is learning to pay for services with our money instead of our data

That while those incidents are possible it was never solid reason to keep all children inside glued to devices. Even though it seems that most people here are against the Metaverse, we all know that there are hundreds of millions of people worldwide who will thrive off this new platform. It all revolves around online, virtual clout, and if the Metaverse provides a platform for people to show off what they have in their online world, it will attract many. I truly believe that the world would be a better place without the likes of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I believe we're at a time of human existence where we need to REGRESS in some way. I'm an advocate for new technology, but in a world where we're as unhappy as ever, something needs to change. And I'm not saying let's regress to 19th century conditions, just times like the late 90s. A good level of human happiness, with many life changing and saving innovations still coming out.
Coming to think of it, I believe the only way we can go is forwards. I believe our technology will eventually outgrow the format of contemporary social media. But until then, things will only get more difficult. We're actually at the dawning of the internet age, this invention that changed the world more than any other invention in history. It's like the beginnings of typography, which toppled kings and changed the world... idk man, shit's crazy.

I would give anything to understand the motivations behind some of these projects. At this point, for any of these people, it's not about the money anymore. They couldn't spend even half of their wealth if they tried. Do they really think this is what the world needs? If they truly think they're helping anyone other than themselves, I think we all need to re-think how we view intelligence. At the end of the day, Facebook and Google have proven time and time again that they shouldn't be allowed to control a market and it keeps happening. These guys are allowed to operate any way they choose so we either have to put a stop to it or just stop complaining about it.
I stopped using FB when I found out they blatantly allow human trafficking on their site in countries like Qatar where officials look the other way. One person can't change the world but I felt it was the right to leave their site.
For me it was when using the app they listen. My coworker and I over break were chatting about trash removal whilst he was browsing FB. A few minutes later he showed me on the bottom of his cellphone screen was an ad for trash removal bins you could rent. 😬

That's fact. I have friends from other countries and what they see on Facebook is completely different from what I see in the US. I understand that what we like affect what we see on fb but they told me the contents they see aren't even moderated. Pure raw images of violence, dead bodies, etc. People just share images without restrictions while some creators in the US create a post with controversy and they get fb jail.

Social media is Pandora’s box and the only way to control it is through authoritarianism. Democracy just doesn’t have the tools necessary to stop it without taking away rights. Before I post anything I try to remember: your rights are my responsibility. And vice-versa. People don’t realize the enormous responsibility they have every time they get on platforms and start spouting out truly ignorant statements as if they know what they’re talking about.

a month ago, i attempted to share a meager "...is watching a movie" activity on Facebook. I was watching House of A Thousand Corpses. The post itself was flagged, and i got a notification that the post goes against its "Community standards", which lead to a warning of my personal FB account. I shrugged it off and moved on. nearly 3 weeks later, i got a notification that FB made a mistake and allowed the post to then to be published. ...lol, as if such an activity was so important.
and yet FB seems to have zero actual moderation on things like hate speech, anti-establishment, etc.
This goes to show how brutally flawed its censorship is.
