      everyone does. healthcare in general must be free, it's a waste of resources otherwise. people have very shallow understanding of how society works, thinking that providing free healthcare is a financial drain, when it's the opposite.
      Health care or welfare checks, which one is a better use of money, and which one pays dividends? I'm not saying to get rid of welfare either, btw, some people don't have any other option.

    everything this person said is true. I used to work as moderator for nearly a year, everyday it felt like torture of expectation. what kind of imagery would come up next? what kind of bully that occurred online? the constant worry of making mistakes as moderator triggered a lot of my anxiety, I lost a lot of weight. the first few months were torture to me, I couldn't function like normal person. things got easier, but damn the content you saw really affected you at times.

      Facebook just needs to not hire easily traumatized people. They should do some sort of test to get people who are mentally capable for the job. I've watch plenty of horrific videos and I didn't get PTSD. Those reminds me of the Internet in the early-to-mid-2000s where on a forum(even a generally tame one) or anything similar, people would post abhorrent things and edgy teenagers would feel “cool” and “mature” for looking at remarkably obscene or graphic stuff, even though it churned their (our, let’s be honest) stomachs deep down. It’s crazy to think it all still happens.

      @JarethTheGoblinKingForever Рік тому +12

      If 4chan even has mods at all, I'd be very surprised. I met a mod for DeviantArt once and basically her day-to-day work was trying to distinguish "artistic" nudity/sex from porn and illegal content. She was traumatized by some of the material she had to flag. Some of it involved animals. Some of it involved minor children. There was a DeviantArt user who was being closely monitored because the majority of their 2D line drawing art depicted graphic sexual acts between an adult priest and a little boy. The mod told me she was afraid to get pregnant after seeing some of the things people were uploading to DeviantArt because it made her realize how many creeps and sex predators are out there. I always used to joke about those goofy cartoon "inflation fetish" images on DeviantArt and stuff, but after meeting one of the mods I realized that there's a LOT of disgusting and terrifying content being shared around on these platforms.

    It’s an interesting expose though. It’s amazing how censorship is highly necessary even in a democracy. The more democratic a society , the more underhanded censorship takes place apparently

    • @JarethTheGoblinKingForever
      @JarethTheGoblinKingForever Рік тому

      Facebook is not a public government institution and so can choose to censor whatever it wants. This is not an affront to democracy. A lot of what Facebook mods are removing from the platform is not technically illegal (nude images of consenting adults, images of a person's self-harm scars, etc.) but Facebook isn't trying to make this stuff inaccessible elsewhere beyond its own platform and subsidiaries. All countries in the world have at least some level of censorship, and it's arbitrarily applied. Canada for instance will censor written depictions of sexual content involving minors if it's picked up by customs processing, but Canada's biggest bookstore, Indigo Books & Music, sells copies of Stephen King's It (has a written depiction of 11-year-old children having an orgy in a sewer), as well as the Burroughs memoir "Running With Scissors", which glorifies and depicts in writing a sexual relationship between a 14-year-old boy and an adult man. Unfortunately the arbitrary application and ambiguity of censorship in democratic countries leads to a lot of deeply harmful material slipping under the radar, while non-democratic countries censor left and right and target things like religious freedom, atheism, LGBTQ+ content and more. There doesn't seem to be a good balance between.

    I didn't realize people were being forced to look at random and potentially upsetting content on Facebook. I've never heard of this before. I choose what I look at. If I come across something I don't want to see I exit it don't look at it. I don't mean this guy for whom it was a job, that he could choose to quit, I mean the people that have lodged the complaints.

      The sad thing about the developed world is that if everyone there realized the pain and struggle achieved to get the products they love, they'd realize globalism was a mistake, nothing in the world has changed at all, no one human is ever "good" or "moral "and that human rights have never existed and were never followed.

    Much of what he said is typical corporate meddling. They don't care. They want profit.
    Also glad you woke up to the PTSD aspect. Most people are ignorant to all of it.

    no doubt seeing all that stuff might mess with somebody's head, but i wouldn't call them victims. i used to work in a morgue. Idk how many dead people i not only had to see, but handle. it wasn't pleasant, but it's a job i signed up for. this guy signed up to do his job and as bad as seeing those things may make him feel, someone has to do the job. just imagine facebook allowing people to post videos of them killing themselves online? having moderators seems like a way better alternative, at least until they figure out how to use ai to weed out graphic content.

      I was thinking the same thing, some people, gore fans, etc. would actually collect this stuff and enjoy their job, maybe it's a bit depraved but at least they're not traumatized

    • @JarethTheGoblinKingForever
      @JarethTheGoblinKingForever Рік тому

      @@vanamq2459 The platforms don't want people "collecting". The trouble with gorehounds is that they deal in sharing grisly footage for others to gawk at, and because of how taboo and hidden it is, it's a bounty actually worth a fair amount of money if somebody has death videos or photos they can share to rubberneckers. Platforms like Facebook just want the content gone. Hiring people who actively seek it out runs the risk that they might retain it and spread it somewhere else, and Facebook doesn't want the legal liability that comes with this.
