What I enjoy about your reviews, it the fact that although this is called "Harry's garage", it is always more about the cars than about you. And this is something quite rare today... Those videos are really therapeutic to me. Thanks a lot Harry.
An older Italian I know near where I live learned his trade in the Italian army, been living in the UK for years. Today he still tinkers with his cars lifting engines out etc, where most gentlemen of that age have long retired. I asked him are Ferrari, Lamborghini his favorite? No, no he replied "Maserati" and went on and on giving the reasons. Now I admire Maseratis. Bliss. :)
Having worked in Rome during the late eighties and early nineties I was lucky enough to see first hand a Maserati Shamal in piazza Venezia. Truly wonderful car to see. One of only 369 built of which 59 were RHD. Great review which brought back to me a flood of memories of a great time in Italy.
Just popping in to say that I'm a guy that likes the steering wheel further away. Yes, we do exist! Every car I get in, I push the telescoping wheel all the way in. I had an Audi 90 with the wheel fixed, and too close to me, which was a major reason for selling it. Love your videos, very relatable perspective. Thanks and keep it up!
I have a RHD Ghibli II with the same 'pelle grigio' and wood interior - it grows on you, even the clock! Yes, there are constant niggles with electrics, but apart from the engine the mechanicals are pretty simple. The engine is a gem, Cosworth design, coscast 4v heads, smooth, torquey, turbo kick, strong bottom end. You have to be willing to get your hands dirty, and experience with them is worth a lot in saved time. Most common faults are well known with remedies, but there is not the aftermarket and support network as so few were built, and they weren't sold new in the USA. The drive is much improved with tuned suspension - Maserati factory was old school with lower front suspension frequency than rear, which makes it soft and cars ground easily. 350lb/in front springs on my car gives ~5% understeer balance, rather than large oversteer balance as standard. Shamal is a mad car, crazy unique styling, box flares - Gandini let loose on a three-box 80's bi-turbo. They don't build cars like that anymore.....for better or worse. Love your 'work' Harry.
Never gave the Shamal much thought based on the looks and the period. Thank you Harry for educating us on the power-train and driving dynamics. You can't watch this man's videos without unexpectedly learning something new about cars. Fantastic!
I always liked the Shamal - surprised so few were sold in the UK - I remember someone's parents picking them up in one at my school around '93 or '94. He took off pretty quickly and I'll never forget how the autumn leaves on the road were spat out from under the rear wheels as they spun. Never saw it again after that.
Buy it buy it buy it !! It's not cheap at all, but if I could afford it, I'd most probably couldn't leave the dealer without it. Deserves a proper Harry's review too after you put a few more miles on it. Really really loved the video, what a stunning machine, thanks Harry !
Really enjoying these videos, more so because I drive through your town every morning on my Cotswold commute to Tewkesbury, sit at those traffic lights for the bridge at the bottom of the high street and enjoy the great road to Stow-on-the-Wold then enjoy even more the B4074 from Stow to Tewkesbury. I don't have anything old but my car is a modern rear wheel drive small coupé with 250bhp, manual box and great handling balance. :-)
Thank you so much for sharing this stunning vehicle, I remember as a child thinking this was the most beautiful car I had ever seen, like a Lancia Delta with a V8.
I love how old school Harry is...even the fact he said in this video "I might get my cheque book out" who the hell has a cheque book nowadays!? 😂😂 Great video Harry!!
I've always loved the BiTurbo/Ghibli's Harry - really under-rated IMO. Real discreet styling that looks better by the day to me. I was at the Modena factory in '96 when they were doing the Ghibli Primatist. Buy it Harry!
I were on my way buying one of these in the 90s. Amazing, brutal and beautiful car, still is. It's just so unique! It was a Porsche-killer at it's time, 4,5 sek 0-100km/h. Aah, I get so nostalgic!
Long been fascinated by these.. They're beautiful cars. Every time I look at a picture of one, I'm taken aback! And what a beautiful color this one is. Dream car. Would love to own one and have it parked next to an equally mad Alfa SZ; two fantastically design cars that provide a uniquely enjoyable driving experience. I do hope you made the right decision with this one Harry!
What a beautiful car thank you for sharing. We in Canada did not get to see any of these brilliant designs form this area. So for me this is awesome to see love the interior and exterior design. Thanks Terry
great video Harry! i feel you are one of the few who reviews really cool en rare cars that do not cost an absolute fortune. This Maserati, The Mini, the Elan, both the SL R107 and the SL600 and i could go on. Most of these cars are actually reachable for people and that makes watching the videos even more fun! greetings from Holland
There are three Maserati from the 90is that were special (still are): Ghibli (cup), Quattroporte (evoluzione) and Shamal. These are like women. You love them or you hate them. For these three mentioned cars you cannot say: I like the engine or I like the line but ... There is no "but". You love them as a package, like your wife or you hate them in general. For me these were (are) pure cars with souls and hearts. Therefore you should threat them well. Like in the video: driver`s cars. Nice video. Thanks for sharing this beauty.
Another great video Harry. Always loved your channel for being about one man and his car collection. Bringing in cars you're considering buying just adds another level of interest. Look forward to seeing more! Just please stay away from generic reviews-the personal angle adds so much more appeal to your videos.
These personal very well researched and highly informative videos are absolutely brilliant. I’m English, I very rarely blow the patriot trumpet, but I will here; we do make some lovely cosy No BS reviews of cars that are without equal anywhere in the world. Well done Harry.
Beautiful car, and great format Harry. If it were up to us, we'd tell you to buy every car you brought us. That's only because you're so great at finding wonderfully quirky exotics and classics. Thanks for the content!
Wow....the shamal! I haven't thought of this car in years.....and it's so nice to see one pop up in Harry's garage! You da man Harry.....love that shirt!
The Shamal came from a particularly strange time at Maserati, but even so, they’re phenomenal cars. I have been driving a Tipo M139 QP as a daily vehicle, but I would really love to add a spectacular coupé or roadster to my garage as well. The 3200 GT is a more likely vehicle for me, but the Shamal is definitely swaying me strongly.
Looks like you just got yourself a Shamal Harry, congratulation! My favorite car of the 90's! It has the "Monstro" look that the Lancia Integrale and Alfa SZ have too. I am not a red car guy but they look pretty good in red with their black B pillar accents running across the roof! Only 7 imported in UK Harry, pull the trigger!
Absolutely love that odd angle of the rear wheel arches. I'm a huge fan of 80s-90s Maseratis and I'd love to drive this around. I definitely wouldn't want to keep this as a garage queen.

loved the look of this car since I was 10 and first saw it in the Super Sportivo Super Trumpf cards!
Brilliant as ever. In the world of over exposed "supercars" and the smugness of other well known car collectors, this is a breath of fresh air. Really appreciate this. Oh and if you ever get a chance, get hold of a Ferrari 400/412, I'd love to see a London - Geneva run in one of those.
So did I. When I was 15 years old I wrote off to a Maserati dealer & asked for some sales info on them & bless them, they actually sent me some. If only I could find a decent biturbo spyder now!
Harry you should buy that car, fit the steering wheel extension. it suits you well and I can tell you love it. also I can see the values going nowhere but up should be a safe investment.
Watching it again, still got mine! 25yrs in August! Will never ever sell it! They state the Ghibli cup is quicker (I have one also) u simply cannot compare the cars! The Shamal was way before it's time! One of the finest Masers ever built and as rare as. What a decision I made!
It's funny....the cars looked so good but they were complete garbage. I think 1 out 4 cars came off the assembly line with a defect. But who cares...right? Like I said.....they look soooooo good.
LB I had a 430 for a while. The performance was manic but there was always some stupid little problem, particularly with electrics. At least I got it out of my system and went back to German cars :)
It looks so much like BMW E30 M3. An M3 with GT interior and I place of the inline-4 they put a twin turbo V8! This car stole all the torque and left scraps for BMW.
Just the tone of the review tells me you're mighty inclined to get this one... Great review and will definitely check back to see if it joins your garage!
Very E30 M3, but with more...everything? I didn't know this car existed until this video. I love everything from the armrest to the material on the dash, and I think that it looks as aggressive coming as it does going. It's a shame and a boon that it's value has risen to it's current level. Drive it, man.
In reality the Biturbo design which the Shamal is from came before the E30, as it was released in 1980, while the E30 was presented in the fall of 1982.
As usual, great video! Got me interested in these cars, there's currently 2 for sale here: a white one with 4300km on the clock for $220k Aussie and a black one with 47200k on the clock for $140k.
What a wonderful car! Only if I could find one! The great thing about this video is that I loved it despite not understanding one single word. Best wishes!
Makes me want to get the Karif out the garage for a spin, though not when there's a whiff of moisture on the roads as it will be throwing itself at the scenery.
Owned mine for 23years. It wowed me then and still does..... FABULOUS AND STRIKING. Meridiens advert in 1992 (Almost unfair advantage it states on there advert) It still is....
Great video by Harry and a true reflection of the Shamal. I have been lucky enough to own one for a number of years now (Red/Magnolia RHD) REG4X. Newer Masers are too complicated and no fun to drive 3200's yes similar engine but too many computers etc. My Ghibli Primatist cant touch the Shamal on normal Roads, it was beyond advanced for its era and even now in todays world rarely beaten. I may be biased as an owner but it was a forgotten supercar in the early 90's and now finally being recognised as one hell of a car (If ur brave enough). The low RHD numbers are proof.
I was lucky enough to watch one live and I can assure you that it really has the feel of something very exotic, despite being basely in the biturbo and this has NOTHING to do with its rarity!
all maseratis before the 4200GT (and the shamal is one of these) have genuine maserati engines. Later on, it's all about tuning and rebadging ferrari engines...
The Integrale and the Ghibli are two of my dream cars. Managed to own an EVO for a few years but could never quite afford a Ghibli. Love the Shamal too. I would buy it in a heartbeat if I had the means.
I adore the Shamal. I couldn’t stretch financially to one in period as they were $Au220k, but I did have a 228 which in so many ways was a fabulous car also. Was it problematic? Yes but far from as bad as Clarkson for example would have you believe. It could be tail happy, it clicked loudly on full lock and the driving position was like the Shamal, however, the boost is intoxicating, the interior fabulous and I never saw another one on the road while I was driving. All in all the most wonderful car I was ever privileged enough to drive. Get it!
Another excellent video. Can't say I've heard of this before. Sounds like a very tuneable platform. Can't wait to hear more about your bikes, Harry. One of them looks just like my old '85 Yamaha DT50MX - but I'm guessing it's a higher capacity model.
Beautiful car Harry, and nothing but yoy for even more great videos. But woah, these things have surged in price! I was inclined to think get it, but at this price point I'm not quite so sure. It's a Maser! Looking forward to your decision.
What I enjoy about your reviews, it the fact that although this is called "Harry's garage", it is always more about the cars than about you. And this is something quite rare today... Those videos are really therapeutic to me. Thanks a lot Harry.

One of the most beautiful cars ever. So well proportioned. Gorgeous
I think it's even more beautiful today than when new. It's aged really well and doesn't look anything like a modern overly slick design.
Definitively!
Tell you what, if they bring this one up in one of those xBox car games. It will be a major hit.
When there are seven cars sold in the U.K and you've checked out three of them - I really think you should get it over with and get one.
Calle Söderberg definitely.

Thank you very much for sharing.
Lol I'm the same,
I work nights and sometimes I put Harry on autoplay and regress as he tells me bedtime stories.
OMG. 🤣
Please never stop doing these drive-videos, they are fantastic and with a pleasant amount of nerdiness!
Never gave the Shamal much thought based on the looks and the period. Thank you Harry for educating us on the power-train and driving dynamics. You can't watch this man's videos without unexpectedly learning something new about cars. Fantastic!

German and Japanese cars are like a good wife, but if you want a beautiful lover who makes you crazy, take Italian car. Sorry for my English
Ha ha that's brilliant - and you are so right!!
German cars are quickly becoming that grumpy but sexy money demanding wife...
German is only appearance, the truth is that you betray the sly.
yep thats true haha :)
@Rusty Climber Rusty Is that so? I had no idea of such thing! I guess I got some homework to do...
Cheers mate!

Nice motor, I was always fascinated with the bi-turbo as a kid and this thing is a step above. Nice vid Harry.
The interior is simply mesmerising😍
like all maseratis
absolutely :) @@RoverWaters
It's about time someone reviewed a Shamal. So many people think it's "Just a tarted up Bi-Turbo" but there's a lot more to it than that.

A working aircon in a rather old italian car?! Really didn't expect that! What a great machine!
Fantastic looks. Looks a bit like an Intergrale from the front. Really beautiful.
Sleepingdragon 1 Absolutely! Have looked at them for many years. Its on the list of the many cars I want to buy, but probably never will :-P
Italian AC's are best in the world. Prob. the best thing in this car.
no sorry far from it anything japanese apart from the hitachi compressors..
It's most likely been repaired or re gassed multiple times
Really hope you get it - that's a beautiful example. The Shamal was never officially sold in the U.S. and from the sounds of it we really missed out.
I love how old school Harry is...even the fact he said in this video "I might get my cheque book out" who the hell has a cheque book nowadays!? 😂😂
Great video Harry!!
i think it was just an expression.
I am 36 and still have one. I cannot tell you the last time I wrote a check though. lol
34 and use my checkbook every month to pay rent and the water bill. My apartment complex does not have an online option.
I could watch Harry review a blender and enjoy it

Harry, thanks for making this video - I've been waiting 20 years for it. Lovely.
One of my all time favorite cars!!.....Loved that review Harry thankyou
Harry, I have been waiting for a review of this car for years - you are such a legend.

Thanks for showing it to us, Harry. Absolutely beautiful design! I've never seen one before.
Well, judging from the way Harry presents the car (expression etc.), he is really in love with it!!!

My favorite car of the 90's! It has the "Monstro" look that the Lancia Integrale and Alfa SZ have too.

The Quattroporte from the same generation as this Shamal was also always one of my favourites.

Really nice, Harry. I was hardly aware of these cars and did not think they had this level of technology (adjustable dampers and soforth).
Beautiful car Harry, and nothing but yoy for even more great videos. But woah, these things have surged in price! I was inclined to think get it, but at this price point I'm not quite so sure. It's a Maser! Looking forward to your decision.
I lusted after one of these in the 90's and 2000's, still one of the best looking cars ever made IMO.
great video Harry. Always loved these cars. Big fan of Gandini's designs.
Very cool car. I love the rear end.
I love this car so much, great video Harry!
I still have an old magazine road test of the Shamal somewhere. Great car. Thanks.
