@ Thanks Matt! Im looking at buying one - im not going to keep the car locked up, I am going to drive the hell out of it. I don't think its bad to buy anything over 50K in miles? It seems like you know this vehicle pretty well, whats your advise?
Mehran Haq You’re testing the memory banks here. As I recall there was not. Most of the changes to the 930 happened when it was reintroduced to the US market, primarily for emissions regulations. It still had the four speed transmission. It was more civilized but it could still bite you in the rump if you got careless or ran out of talent. I believe the last year in the US was 1989 and that did have a five speed.

My Dad had a 82 4-speed in Guards Red. He sold it in 2005 and I keep reminding him of how much the prices for a 930 are going up here in Australia. So much fun to ride in as a kid, love the sound and the acceleration even by modern standards is phenomenal. Amazing for something designed in the late 70s.
Harry, I bought the actual silver 991.2 Carrera 911 that you reviewed and have been hooked on your car video's ever since. I want to dislike you for the obvious huge wealth that you have but I can't as you are a genuine gent and are happy to drive the cars you own that others would mothball and store away in a sealed room somewhere. Thanks showing your lifestyle off!
911 has always been my favorite sports car, just like the one you have. Closest I ever got to owning one was a used 1977 924 and later on a brand new 2006 350Z red. I swear after I lowered and put 305's on the rear, that 350Z would not now matter how hard I try squeal the tires around corners. Stuck like glue.

Well done Harry, another review. For those who say things about his wealth, in my eyes its not monetary but attitude. He doesnt boast about it & just gets on with reviewing & driving one of his collection.
Lovely Harry, what a great tribute. It's the pendulum effect of the rear mass that brewed fear. Also because you have made this excellent documentary I have unwittingly eaten 2 lbs of various cheeses I found in my fridge. Great work Harry, I really enjoy your videos 👍🏻
Excellent video. Loved the detail showing the rev counter to demonstrate the turbo lag. The interior of a 911 is actually quite durable and yes the doors are heavy and feel solid. The pedals you get used to. They're part of the car's identity. The thermostat regulated ventilation system is not unique for the Turbo. It was in the non turbo cars as well. It was first introduced in 1978 models. The round door knobs were there to make it harder to break into the car. When the car is locked the doorlock pins disappear into the door trim. That way a thief would have to reach further into the car to open in. When I sit in a 911 I instantly feel "at home". The car is a bit strange compared to other more normal cars but everything in it is well thought through and well made. And when you hear the deep roar mixed with the sound of the aircooling fan it's wonderful. In spite of the non adjustable steering wheel the seating position is good. Thanks for a great video.
I had the opportunity to drive a 1989 911 Turbo with a 5 speed two years ago, it was a factory M505 SlantNose car, guards red, paint matched Fuchs wheels, just a stunning perfect car. I was working at the time, so I was incredibly careful, never really got it into boost much of at all in the short drive, but it was incredible. The sound, the look, the feeling, what a damn car! I can only dream that one day I will get the opportunity to drive one and really let the waste-gate crack open on a back road!!
I have a unmolested mint 1983 930. Every time I drive it feels just like it did when I bought it 16 years ago. Awesome insight to this incredibly innovative machine from the 80's Cheers Harry.
That was another Great Video as usual my 1st Porsche was a 1986 Carrera 911 Targa it lasted 3 months couldn't get used to the pedals and bought a 1981 928 which I owned for several years until a car dealer friend called me about a 928 GTS Manual+no sunroof which was better for me and owned this for 4 years then sold it to a friend then bought it back of him after 6 months missed it so much and kept for 3 more years I just loved the power from 2nd-3rd and it gobbled up the miles from Cheshire to Chelsea.Wish I had kept it great memories.
Beautiful car and a great video as always! I must say 1:30 this part was slightly confusing though. Ferdinand Porsche and Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche are not the same person. Ferdinand Porsche wasn't involved in the Porsche sportscar company, thats his son Ferry.
Oh Harry! Watched all 23 mins! (kinda long in comparison to most YT vids, but oh so rewarding). I had the ubiquitous '911 turbo' poster on my bedroom wall so watching your review evoked a huge smile. Fast forward 30+ years and I am the proud owner of a (similarly colored) Iris Blue 993. I've owned it 10 years and I still feel like I'm 'introducing' myself to 'her' every time I drive. Speaking of which, no matter where I go, surrounded by BMW's, Benz's, Audi's & similar ilk, my 993 *always* turns heads, yeah, even when it's parked. Keep your turbo, Harry, and *enjoy*!
Harry, thanks for another great insightful video, of course! Worked at a big US-city downtown Porsche store in 88-89. Staff was always driving these, the various models in the range. Truth be told, I saw you steamin' along the hedgerows talking, one-hand on wheel, and, looking at the lens, tach in 4k plus ...and still alive to return to the stable! We ALL trembled - to some degree- taking a delivery drive/customer introducing their 930...incidentally, that customer never even considered the TR or raging bull. A. Franklin said it best...R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Uncle Harry forgot to mention the burnt oil smell of the 930 engine after a hard boost or long drive.... This is the car that forever changed my view on transport. A car was no longer an object from getting from point A to B.... It was a expression of the Gentleman driving it. Sunday Morning waking up and peaking into the garage seeing my dad and my uncle's 930 3.3 Turbo & 3.2 Carrera standing there was a privilege. I fear i will never again experience an old 911 air cooled Sechszylinder engine in any form. Only now sitting here in my diesel euro box do i realize the privilege i had growing up as a kid
***** Well, in my opinion, nobody can physically or mentally be that valuable or work that hard that it justifies an income like that. It is simply unethical to reserve for yourself that amount of (scarce) money. But let us not get into politics.
I think those loud birds are called "Porsche Fanbirds." They were saying "Harry, take us for a ride in you bitchin' Turbo and we promise not to poop on it - tweet". Great review as usual, Harry!
jmetallicad Very well, I stand corrected. Any colour will do except tan, white and silver (although white can look nice in combination with decals and/or stripes).
i know nothing about Porches but when i saw a 930 in france about a year ago i knew it was a special car. Such an amazing machine that i hope to own one day!
So you wouldn't subsitute it with a Lamborghini Aventador? I owned a Porsche 911 Carrera for about one year but it wasn't my first choice. It was an "impulse purchase".
Reverend Eslam laith bilbeisi Agreed. Monetary value aside, I would take a 993 turbo over an aventador.. Easily.. Not being trolls or anything, the 911 invokes way more of an enjoyable driver's experience for me rather than the aventador's "Look at me I'm rich bitch" personae.
bcsngan well said, when i look at most of today's rich and fabulous' garage and house pictures, you see multiple ferraris, a rolls royce, and a lambo, that just shows that these people only care about flash and cash, rather than the engineering feat of the vehicle. I understand its a matter of taste and opinion, but the rich have no taste, and no value for money... another example, i give a lot more respect and attention to someone driving a BMW M5 than someone in a gallardo.
This is my dream Porsche. I worked in a.Porsche dealer in 1987-88 and got to drive a lot of 911’s. Just like Harry said, you had to learn to drive the 911 correctly. It was a different beast back then.

+Harry's garage I too would like to see some bikes. There is currently a surge of interest in the late 80's and early 90's superbikes, which are in effect the birth of the modern water cooled beam frame superbike, in the same way the CB750 and Z1 were superbike genesis
Do you have any thoughts on the Peraves Monotracer? I think a cabin motorcycle could have a niche if the large motor manufacturers get behind the concept. The FT Motoring man did quite a good piece on it
I saw the promo video for this channel in which Harry said he's going to review all of his cars and amongst them was this 930 turbo. In the last few days I was actually asking myself what happened to his 911 and why he hasn't made a video about it. Glad to see that he finally found the time to do it, the 930 was the car that made porsche an icon in the 80's and it's directly responsible for what they are today. Happy to see a "owners perspective" on it, I was hoping for this video for a while now.
Dear Sir Harry, the very reason that the later famous Ferdinand Porsche thought of having an engine in the back of the car, is not - as you suggest - to have a compact power-unit and lots of interiorspace for the occupants, but... young Ferdinand was an apprentice engineer at the pre-war Tatra factory in Kopřivnice, in the region Moravia of TsechoSlovakia. Now situated in Czech Republic, near the border of Slovakia, and the region where my darling wife comes from. Ferdinand had a few very talented teachers at Tatra that were pioneers of building cars with air-cooled rear-engines, just think of the famous Tatra-plan. Not a shy person, Ferry 'borrowed' their designs in the pre-war years to present a 'KdF-wagen' ( Kraft-durch-Freude ) to a certain Mr. A. Hitler, himself a lover of automobiles. This Mr. H. gave permission to Mr. Porsche to start manufacturing prototypes of the KdF wagen, later to be well-known as the People's Car, or Volkswagen. The rest, as they say, is history and led in the end to the 911, of which I am a proud owner too! Mine is a 1982 Carrera SC, 3.0 and pre-G50 gearbox. Just some facts: Porsche GmbH paid patent fees to Tatra ( now Skoda) until 1972 I am told for using their basic designs. Ferdinand Porsche was born in - now - Vratislavice, before the war known as Maffersdorf. That is about 6 km. from our home in Liberec, CZ. His family Porsche tombe on the local cemetary is visited by me and some 911 friends every year. You are very kindly invited to come along next year with your gorgeous 911 Turbo. You'll love the driving here in Ceská Republika. Love your channel and way of no-nonsense presenting. Keep it up!
***** I think the Ferrari 288 GTO is the greatest modern Ferrari in existence and is definitely a connoisseurs choice, the Ferrari 288 GTO is a twin Turbo.
dont even get me started on the 288 GTO! and yes the F40 is turbocharged aswell but they lack the character of the older v12 models...looks and performance wise...i'd take a Daytona over either of those any day
Reminds me of my childhood. My dad had a 87 930, 89 930 targa turbo. 83 Ferrari 512bbi and a 89 lambo 25th anniversary countach. I loved them all. But the 930 was my favorite. Great memories
This is such a great video of the 930. It's my dream to own one of these someday. Would you recommend getting a 70s non-intercooled one or a late model 930 like yours? Which one do you think is more fun to drive?
Michael Klein Best value are the 3.3litre Coupe versions, 78-88, a 5-speed like mine carries a slight premium. Early 3.0litre, non-intercooled 930 are now collector items and priced accordingly. They are a bit lighter than a 3.3 930 but the turbo delivery is even baggier. The only reason I'd pick one over a 3.3 is for investment reasons, rather than how it drives.
+Harry's garage This review is amazing! I just subscribed, looking forward to watched the Testarossa and Countach Review! Any chance you may review the 1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Twin Turbo in the future?
Yup. You're the best car reviewer, period. I get so much more out of your videos than anyone else. All aspects of a car... in detail. And the older 911s are my soft spot. So yes, I smiled all through this one.
Smokey Wilson Yeah that's a good call. I owned a pearlescent white (it was like a cream colour) Renault 5 turbo in the early 90's, I had lots of fun in that. Turbo had been tweaked so it was coming in very early, meaning even more fun but terrible mpg :)
Thehpman100 i always wanted one in that colour so rare these days i think the majority of the 5 turbos are down the south of the country which come up for sale i used to deliver curries in mine hahah
This is one of the best Porsche 911 youtube videos i've ever seen. It really makes you feel like you're 'experiencing' the car as best as a person could watching it on the internet. I like how this guy explains a lot of the nuances of the car that most people wouldn't bother. My only complaint is some of the road noise becomes a bit imposing during the middle bit of the video. Otherwise, great work!
Brilliant Harry. When mentioning the death of the duck tail as sad, I think its extraordinary they managed to come up with something as great looking as the also iconic 'Whale tail'. I'm a motorcyclist myself, but my word were these cars gorgeous.

The 911's until they became water-cooled were quite fun cars (mostly due to the unique engine sounds with the cams and timing chains and the enthralling exhaust note). My favorite is an early model, like a 1967 911S with the carbs (either Solex or Weber, not sure which were on that car, although I believe the latter). The 1975 Carerra RS cars are quite amazing, but the 930 is one which will always be the supreme example of the marque. I've never pulled the trigger on owning one, each situation had a different reason, but I've driven them and enjoyed every moment. Fun video with that late 930. The 911s are very expensive these days, but it seems the prices are dropping slightly. When you own one, you need to enjoy its quirks and the superb handling and noise. They should not be "garage queens" but driven as much as possible (cheaper to maintain that way, as well). Beautiful cars... classics.
lost count of the amount of 911 roll cages i have fitted,74 sc...78 turbo...and a sweet kremer twin turbo....not my ideal car...z4 3.0 SI...enough for me.
I own an 1985. Harry’s description of this car is so dead on, down to every little nuances that only most people would notice after years of ownership And can only be done when comparing it to other cars. Before I had any car to my collection I see if Harry reviewed it first.
Brian Smith As a British gentleman with a country estate Harry should have a shotgun at the ready. I've said it earlier in this thread: That's not a bird, it's Schmee giving his two cents' worth. Harry has my unconditional permission blast him to smithereens.
Hi Harry! I appreciated the comments on the 928. Positive or negative it's a car which doesn't get much attention despite the effort that Porsche put into it. I own a 1988 model and thoroughly enjoy the (still) moderness of it. Cheers!
I have owned my 89 5 speed 930 for 24 years, it is an 89 with 38K. never been painted or driven in the rain. It is 2 from the showroom" condition. I drive it no more than 500 miles a year and enjoy every inch of it. The performance through the gears is outstanding, from a standing start not so. Oh guards red with two tone grey leather interior. Harry speaks with love and affection for the model, rightly so.
watching this made me miss my slantnose, they went up in price A LOT in the past couple of years... pretty much all classic Porsches went up in price like crazy. they are truly the original daily driver super sport cars.

The car is a bit strange compared to other more normal cars but everything in it is well thought through and well made. And when you hear the deep roar mixed with the sound of the aircooling fan it's wonderful. In spite of the non adjustable steering wheel the seating position is good. Thanks for a great video.
Love the 930, and from the sound of it that bird thoroughly enjoys it as well. Great video, I hope you enjoy making them as much as I enjoy watching.
That place where you live is beautifull!
Near Burford in the Cotswolds, very very expensive property
Great car. Beautiful town and countryside.
This video give a real sense of the visceral quality of the car!
Thank you.
i swear i love those rims
I had the opportunity to drive a 1989 911 Turbo with a 5 speed two years ago, it was a factory M505 SlantNose car, guards red, paint matched Fuchs wheels, just a stunning perfect car. I was working at the time, so I was incredibly careful, never really got it into boost much of at all in the short drive, but it was incredible. The sound, the look, the feeling, what a damn car! I can only dream that one day I will get the opportunity to drive one and really let the waste-gate crack open on a back road!!
That is such a beautiful car, back in the day that thing would smoke all the Miami Vice wannabes and their Ferraris and Lamborghinis.
YES- I smoked a Testatossa (haha) on the way back from Le mans in my 911 SC (back in the 80s)
I have a unmolested mint 1983 930. Every time I drive it feels just like it did when I bought it 16 years ago. Awesome insight to this incredibly innovative machine from the 80's Cheers Harry.
Love your explanations about the history of the 911.
Great car and great video as usual ! :)
Legendary review for a Legendary Car!
Also, would love to see more reviews for modern cars.
Of course, by Mr.Harry :)
This Porsche 911 Turbo is the best styled and looking Porsche car by far, and the big whale tail at the back makes it.
Only now sitting here in my diesel euro box do i realize the privilege i had growing up as a kid
he owns this 911 turbo? He has an out standing collection
100PercentLuck He pretty much owns a real life, multi-car wall poster we all had as kids.
mojostevo isn't that the truth.
***** So what? He seems to have made his money through his own sheer bloody hard work.
He owns a farm & work for JLR special vehicles
***** Well, in my opinion, nobody can physically or mentally be that valuable or work that hard that it justifies an income like that. It is simply unethical to reserve for yourself that amount of (scarce) money. But let us not get into politics.
So grateful to you Harry, for covering this car. Such an icon of mine. So envious you found the one you did. Such a special car. Great!
Thanks for another great video Harry!
this 911 is stunning the model the colour,an 80s icon.superb.
Thanks Harry, your product knowledge is good. Great video
Watched this video and all of a sudden the 911 makes sense to me for the first time ever, thank you
I think those loud birds are called "Porsche Fanbirds." They were saying "Harry, take us for a ride in you bitchin' Turbo and we promise not to poop on it - tweet".
Great review as usual, Harry!
astrogen1960 No, that chirping in the background is Schmee giving his bird-brained review of a car he would never understand.
Im these times Harry’s content is so uplifting
This car would look so good in light blue metallic.
jospi2 this car looks so good.*
jospi2 It would look nice in any colour except white or silver. My 911 was silver but I didn't have a choice as it was a used model.
Reverend Eslam Really? Even that ugly brown/tan color they did during that era. I think that those look awful
jmetallicad Very well, I stand corrected. Any colour will do except tan, white and silver (although white can look nice in combination with decals and/or stripes).
Johnny Unitas The Singer 911! Fantastic car. Chris Harris did an awesome review of it on Chris Harris on Cars
i know nothing about Porches but when i saw a 930 in france about a year ago i knew it was a special car. Such an amazing machine that i hope to own one day!
Porsche, there is no substitute.
***** Amen.
So you wouldn't subsitute it with a Lamborghini Aventador?
I owned a Porsche 911 Carrera for about one year but it wasn't my first choice. It was an "impulse purchase".
Reverend Eslam i would have a 993 turbo over 3 aventadors, anyday!
"Tea tray spoiler" Interesting. It was always called the "whale tail" in the US.
Terry Orcutt Yeah Well.. ITake Most Of This With A Huge Grain Of Salt.. the Car Video Millionaires Are Not What They Appear .. Nobody Notices This Guy Talks Like Theres Somthing Lodged Down His Throat.. But Look At The Comments .. Really He’s A Hero,, ?? Ok
WOW He Sure Likes To Hear Himself Talk & Talk & Talk .. Wow He Can Reach the Door Pocket... This Guys A Turd..
@@donaldleavy4379 lol. You troll! Harry has always been brilliant! Have read some of the articles that he did for Evo? Why don't you find some cars and do a review. I guess you can't
That's not a whale tail, they were much larger things and were more angled than that.
@@donaldleavy4379 One of the wonderful things about UA-cam is that it gives room for f-wits to expose their f-wittery to everyone in the world. Congratulations, champ. Now we all know that you're an f-wit.
Love that car....Harry gives so much info about the cars, like Jay Leno in that way, goes into the history and why things were done a particular way.
Great vids Harry. I know you're into 2 wheels as well, would like to see a video on one (or more) of your bikes
ThreatJohnny May do. I recently did a trip from the Med to the Atlantic on an Enduro bike. I did video it but found it very hard to film. I'll see what the edit looks like before deciding whether to post it or not..
Just some facts:
Porsche GmbH paid patent fees to Tatra ( now Skoda) until 1972 I am told for using their basic designs.
Keep it up!
Fantastic channel. Know absolutely nothing about cars but learning a lot thanks to the great detail in these videos.
The 930 is the connoisseurs choice.
Jeff Jones no it's not, turbo cars will never be
***** Au contraire !, the 1989 930 Turbo is an iconic masterpiece.
i agree it's a masterpiece and i've always dreamt of owning one but naturally aspirated will always be the true connoisseur's choice
Great memories
i had a dinky in same color and i loved it in 1982
armourdaddy805
I was going to say the same thing, I had a brown metallic one.
armourdaddy805 *Dinky Toys*
Absolute class, there’s no substitute for knowledge & enthusiasm, which Harry has in abundance.
Harry's garage great cars ive had 4 of these now getting my fifth one amazing 3.3 aircooled 930 911 turbo i wish to get a 964 turbo 2 now soon
Michael Klein The integrated fog lamps are also visually a big plus for the 3.3. I am convinced that it was also on Harry's wishlist.
+Harry's garage This review is amazing! I just subscribed, looking forward to watched the Testarossa and Countach Review! Any chance you may review the 1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Twin Turbo in the future?
Even a Sinclair C5 is more exciting than a Mitsubishi
Yup. You're the best car reviewer, period. I get so much more out of your videos than anyone else. All aspects of a car... in detail. And the older 911s are my soft spot.
So yes, I smiled all through this one.
Haryy, LOVE your videos, but please get a microphone, if your a foreigner its hard to understand everything you say.
A new Harry's Garage video? Best thing that has happened all day so far.
would like to see you do a review on the other classic 80's turbo car, the renault 5 turbo lol
Smokey Wilson I second that request. Renault 5 Turbo
At least the customers got their curries still hot then :)
Thehpman100 not the mid engined monster then?
One of the only channels where I like the video before even having watched it.
Lovely bird
in the background - HA
This is one of the best Porsche 911 youtube videos i've ever seen. It really makes you feel like you're 'experiencing' the car as best as a person could watching it on the internet. I like how this guy explains a lot of the nuances of the car that most people wouldn't bother. My only complaint is some of the road noise becomes a bit imposing during the middle bit of the video. Otherwise, great work!
Harry, you sexy sexy man.
Brilliant Harry. When mentioning the death of the duck tail as sad, I think its extraordinary they managed to come up with something as great looking as the also iconic 'Whale tail'. I'm a motorcyclist myself, but my word were these cars gorgeous.
Is it just me who loves his house
No!
I really do enjoy these car explanations. This is one show I would pay for. And i've never said that before. Keep going.
After seeing this i feel like i can build one on my own.
+Siba Sugar Obviously, you never driven a 911. The build quality is awesome, its like a mix of racing car with a very light tank. Regards
+Hugo Escudeiro Oliveira How is it obviously to you?
+Siba Sugar Because of your statement. How could you build one? No offense... Rather funny actually.
+Hugo Escudeiro Oliveira Now you get it? It is supposed to be funny.
+Siba Sugar I guess I'm a slow learner ;)
I don't know why but these are one of the most beautiful doors ever built. Always loved them the black fine line over the window..
I've known Harry for 23:03 minutes & I already like him more than Clarkson !Mind you I'm a fellow Porsche 911 owner & a little biased.
Beeboy69 *Clarkson has retired! What took him so long? Top Gear is history. I recommend DONUT MEDIA the best UA-cam **automotive.Trust** me! Bangkok Johnnie CarSanook Media Thaimaa*
Chris Harris would love this video
James Petchey *Has he retired yet?*
I love how original this car is. Even the factory radio!
Just toss a handful rocks into the tree next time.
Brian Smith As a British gentleman with a country estate Harry should have a shotgun at the ready. I've said it earlier in this thread: That's not a bird, it's Schmee giving his two cents' worth. Harry has my unconditional permission blast him to smithereens.
I threw a hatchet once, from the balcony, enhanced with a berserker roar.
Little fucker went 0 dB instantly. : D
What a great video, really love the 80's 911's. 23 minutes never went buy so fast.
jake Stevens "really love the 70's 911's" it's from 1989... that tells how much they (didn't) update(d) it! :P
