I've been playing over 50 years. I own an Epi Sheraton II, Epi ES335 Pro, and a Gibson ES335, and there is simply not a $2500 difference between the Epi's and the Gibson. Period. In fact, I ended up selling the Gibson as I just wasn't using it. It was a kick to realize I could buy 5 more Epi's- or a really really nice amp, for what I got for the Gibson used. I don't miss it at all. For those of you who hate Epi's because they're made in China- don't forget Gibson/Epiphone is a USA company, so you're still pumping those hard earned bucks right back into the good old US of A, and the quality equals or rivals many US made guitars I have played and owned.
+Glen Rappold I have an older Epi LP(1992)Custom and my newest child(2004)Sheraton II and I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. The prices were right and they'll be with me for a long time. Gig with them both and I haven't played my Fender guitars in months.
+Glen Rappold I, took interest in your post for a few non specified reasons, but, in light of the one that counts I ll ask in this text....In 50 years, puts you in the same time period as myself of sorts, Though in the reality of lthis there is a lot of time and gaps where music took a hiatus for me for importqnt considerations. The physical part that is. I kept the mind in the gam and read and update and learned through out the time. Now my point....In all that time no matter how it was spent in your behalf. What came to be the best guitar acoustic and best guitar electric and amp.....including pedals if your mind says they were important in the outcome of the tone you feel most appropriate. I realize I m making it a put upon effort, and I say with appreciation that I m trying to get my ONE TIME amp and guitar chose between a couple. But, I ve got the standard issue amps and guitars one each and I want to see if people find that the tone of one amp builder what ever it may be is the be all end all do all amp.... If you choose not to answer than I thank you for taking the time to read this. I love guitarists because I is
I've had this guitar for about 4 years now and here are my notes for you to consider: Pros -Sounds good, very mid rangy -Neck is comfy -Action can go super low -Looks amazing -Trustable guitar -Very versatile (I mostly play jazz and I have a super clean but very loud modern jazz tone. I played it with heavy distortion, breakup clean, crunch, traditional jazz, compressed funk type tones and it responded great to all. -It's affordable -Stays in tune almost all the time -Great wood, mine has good amount of flaming -Great craftmanship -Trustable guitar -It's affordable -Stays in tune almost all the time -Looks amazing Cons - Super heavy, it's killing my back. Not the easiest to travel with. I had to buy a good bass strap. (should add, all semi-hollows are very heavy) - Headstock is too big, you can't find gigbags. I had one specially made for it. - Mine doesn't react well to heavy strings for some reason, up to 11 is alright but I had problems with Daddario chromes 11s (daddario chromes are a bit heavier than regular). It broke lots of expensive flatwound strings. My luthier couldn't figure it out. It might be just me tho... -Saddle retainer wasn't holding the saddles right and I accidentally broke it trying to fix it. I made a new one from an old g string but it was hard to do. -Pickups are fine but not the best -Frets have a short life. Mine had one fret job (not a refret). Mine is 2015 made and has been with me since early 2019, I play it every day for at least 4-5 hours and I think it has less than 3 years left. Extra (not a pro or a con) -This is not a 335, this has a 5pcs maple/walnut neck and a maple sustain block. 335s have mahogany for both. Sounds much more mid rangy and way better for the setup to stay as it is. This is a different guitar. I like it better than a 335. Closer to Ibanez artstar. -Has a very thick polyurethane finish. -Not as loud as a fully hollow unplugged (Idk why I expected this) -It's easy to break the pickguard, be careful with it. -I did an out-of-phase mode, super great for funk tones and very easy to do. Would recommend. -Chinese-made and Korean-made don't have a huge difference, tried both and both were good. New ones are great too. There's not a huge difference between a rosewood or a pau ferro fingerboard . -Some people say the pots are cheap but they seem fine to me. That's about it. Great guitar overall, if you can change the pickups and the bridge it will be better than most gibsons. Mine already is! I recommend it, great guitar.
Great info. I've just bought one and can definitely attest to the weight. It's flippin heavy. But I knew this going in. What pickups would you recommend swapping them for? Mine came with the Probuckers which sound really good, but could definitely see myself upgrading down the line. Cheers.
Read it and there is a big difference in rosewood and Pau Ferro ..I have both .and my rosewood boards are still great. The Pau Ferro looks and feels horrible.
I really appreciate seeing you doing some demo's of these really great Epiphone guitars. Bang for the buck is a gross understatement because these are just damn fine guitars in their own right. Period.
I've always thought that Greg could have a 30 minute show on prime-time on a major network, work with no script and just review guitars and amps and probably be a ratings winner.Hell, I know I'D be tuned in every week!
Best guitar reviewer/demonstrator I've ever SEEN. In yer face and OTT? Hell, yeahhhh!!! That's what we WANT! Someone who can PLAY! A genius pair of hands, and with the balls of Bill Hicks. You got me to travel 350 miles yesterday to buy its left-handed version. My musical future has already changed for the better as a result. Thank YOU.
As a session player of over 50 years i can say my 25year old Samick Korean Sheraton has been used more than any of my Gibson or fender guitars because it is so tonally versatile and a joy to play.and how refreshing to see a review by a real deal player 👍🤠well done amigo
I bought a '93 Sheraton ii, picked it up and started play "gimme shelter".. i didnt realize i even knew how to play it..lol.. there is a magic mojo in that axe
Thank you Wildwood Guitars. While elite players, pro players, intermediate & beginners alike appreciate the $2000+ instruments Gibson & others offer, reality for most of us is that we're looking for affordable, reliable, well built good sounding instruments. This Sheraton II deserves to have Mr Koch demoing it. It is a good guitar, not just a "good guitar for the money". From someone with over 30 years playing experience, thank you for this video. I hope to see more like it. WELL DONE!
Haha, best guitar overview I've ever seen on youtube! Excellent playing, wise advices, entertaining... Thanks, loved it! Made me wanna pick up my guitar and play. Just like yesterday! Then I'll get on my knees and pray...
Excellent demo! Wonderful Travis picking on "Mr. Sandman". I have owned a Korean (Samick) made Sheraton II for about 16 years. Over that period of time I have bought and sold several guitars. I WILL NEVER SELL MY SHERATON!!! It represents an insane value. Sounds great and excellent playability. The neck p/u will give wonderful, creamy, smooth Jazz tone. Great for Chord Melody solos. Love my Sheraton!
I played this guitar today. This is not only a beautiful looking guitar, it sounds amazing a you can Cleary hear in this outstanding demo. I just had to see for myself. And at $600. Bucks this baby is an absolute must to have. When the dealer asked me if I'd like to take it, I simply replied "I was born at night, but it wasn't last night!!" A no brainer! Of course I'll take it!!
I have a Korean Unsung made Sherry II and it's a killer guitar ... changed the nut to graphite and the bridge to a tone pro and the guitar plays stunning now.
Greg Koch...and a GORGEOUS Epiphone(and Epi are truly kicking ass and making a GREAT INSTRUMENT)...and Greg's great technique....and you have a GREAT video
I have an '88 Sheraton II, the Epiphone by Gibson headstock model. I bought it new in '88, and never regretted it for a second. I have, however, had S.Duncan pickups installed, as the original bridge p/u left a lot to be desired. This is the Samick made guitar mentioned in the Epiphone Forums on the Gibson web page. There are people collecting them (!) at this point, although I think mine plays too well to just sit in a case. If I could play like Mr. Koch, me and my guitar would be happier than a clam at high tide!
i have a 2005 epiphone sheraton II and never touched the trus rod since the day i got it. Not a buzz anywhere and i live in nova scotia where the humidity changes as much as the hours go by. I have since swapped the pickups and electronics but thats it.
I had an epiphone Sher ii, I sold it back in the early 2000s......I just heard this Mr. Sandman ditty, now i'm most definitely going to buy another one. Gorgeous sounding guitar. What a dolt I was for letting mine go.
I have this guitar and it is fun to play. The neck is set up that guitar playing is a breeze. The only issue I have is the cheesy looking pick-guard. I removed it on my guitar and it looks now better in my opinion. As always, Greg does a great demo. Cheers.
Getting this guy to review a guitar is like getting rembrant to review a pencil it's not fair. He could make an argos starter pack sound like butter 🤷♂️
I've had since one 2003 but in ebony, still looks and plays superb.. I use a Marshall MG100 DFX and the tones I get are great,so for around £800 for the amp and guitar I think it's value for money too. Peace out.
I have a 2008 Sheraton II in Natural that I bought off a guy that used to be in Taking Back Sunday, and I can attest that this guitar is great all around, not just for the money, though I concede the pickups on the pre-2016 models are hit-or-miss. The neck fit my hand just right, action intonation and frets are all good. The pots/switch are good but the pickups weren’t great overall. The neck pickup sounded loud, full and juicy, but the bridge pickup was weak, and extremely low output in comparison to the neck. I swapped them out for Duncans and its now the best sounding/playing guitar I’ve ever owned. The newer Sheraton II Pros though, I’ve never tried one I didn’t like. They’ve all played and sounded amazing right off the bat.
Man what a great video! I'm actually grabbing a Sheraton off of Craigslist tomorrow for a STEAL and I can't wait! Ebony Sheraton II, Seymour Duncan Jazz/59 Hybrid and HSC for $325 :D.
“Roman Numeral II - dig it!” I definitely dig it, Greg. Any guitar becomes instantaneously salable when you demonstrate it. I had one (in ebony) half a decade ago (as of 2019), roughly the same time this review went up, and I foolishly turned loose of it. It’s demonstrations like this one that are now tending me to replace it (in natural). Extra motivated, knowing that the parts were built here in the United States, even if the guitar itself was assembled overseas. Also digging the Doohickeys. Had the pleasure of catching you at Victor’s in Paramus, NJ back in June 2002, demonstrating Fender Cybertwin models.
I Love the way your Comedy Great Player Great Singer(which you don't do enough) and your a SHOWMAN. I DIG it all. Your Underrated My Friend Greg. M o r e COFFEE DAMN IT.
I was given one of these, but the neck is snapped in half. I'm going to try my hand at removing the neck and replacing it with a new one. hopefully its salvageable, sounds like a really good epiphone!
4:10 I don’t question that someone could be restringing a guitar by a river while meditating, however, wouldn’t metal sink? Instead of float down the river?
This might be the greatest guitar review of all time.
Fully okay with U ! Best review EVER :D
What do you mean ‘Might be...’
The review or the guitar ??

For those of you who hate Epi's because they're made in China- don't forget Gibson/Epiphone is a USA company, so you're still pumping those hard earned bucks right back into the good old US of A, and the quality equals or rivals many US made guitars I have played and owned.
I guess people like you are the ones who know what they're talking about! Helpful tips for a player who is yet to even play a real Gibson!
Glen Rappold I agree. I wouldn't trade my Epiphone Les Paul for a Gibson.
+Glen Rappold I have an older Epi LP(1992)Custom and my newest child(2004)Sheraton II and I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. The prices were right and they'll be with me for a long time. Gig with them both and I haven't played my Fender guitars in months.

Are the current epiphone sheraton iis being made still good guitars? And is the sheraton ii pro worth the upgrade?
I've had this guitar for about 4 years now and here are my notes for you to consider:

-It's affordable
-Stays in tune almost all the time
-Great wood, mine has good amount of flaming
-Great craftmanship
-Trustable guitar
-It's affordable

Cons
- Super heavy, it's killing my back. Not the easiest to travel with. I had to buy a good bass strap. (should add, all semi-hollows are very heavy)

-Has a very thick polyurethane finish.
-Not as loud as a fully hollow unplugged (Idk why I expected this)
-It's easy to break the pickguard, be careful with it.
-I did an out-of-phase mode, super great for funk tones and very easy to do. Would recommend.

Read it and there is a big difference in rosewood and Pau Ferro ..I have both .and my rosewood boards are still great. The Pau Ferro looks and feels horrible.
You gotta love this guy, hes a ball buster and a good player.
Greg is probably the reason the Wildwood office keeps running out of coffee.
Kevin Cowell hilarious!
...or coke ;-)
Quadruple caffeine klotch!
that can't be coffee
Greatest review delivery of all time. Shikadoidle!
I really appreciate seeing you doing some demo's of these really great Epiphone guitars. Bang for the buck is a gross understatement because these are just damn fine guitars in their own right. Period.
I've searched the internet far and wide. You sir, are the best guitar reviewer in this minor segment of our universe. You dig?
Frettedamericana is a great guitar review and a fantastic guitar player, check him out. Funny too
I just want to play like he does. For fuck's sake he's good.
Their Sheraton line is outstanding
At last somebody who can play, great demo, I'm getting mine in Black!!!
I've always thought that Greg could have a 30 minute show on prime-time on a major network, work with no script and just review guitars and amps and probably be a ratings winner.Hell, I know I'D be tuned in every week!
Hehe, "tuned"
I'd definitely watch his show lol
All I know is this guy is I think one of the best guitarist / salesman on the planet.
I would kill to play like this guy.
MikeGaming i think practising is less risky then killing someone
Practice man. Practice, dedication, and learning and you'll get there
HOW have I not seen this freaking amazing channel before? Highly informative and hilarious, too!
Best. Review. Ever. Give this guy a TV show or something. Awesome guitar also, just ordered one up.

This video is NOT about the guitar. Hilarious.
This guy could make rubberbands strung across a cigar box sound good . Great Playing Mate !!
Excellent review and playing and channeling of Stephen Colbert's O'Reilly-esque persona
John Lee Hooker always said he thought the Sheraton was much better than any Gibson. Can really see what he meant, this one sounded like a beast.
Maybe because he spent his money on hookers and hootch he couldn't afford a gibson
Greatest guitarman with Marcin from Poland!😎
