I've purchased several Epiphone modules including two SGs that I got from Austin . A Traditional Pro III Les Paul , a FJ 200 BE anES 335 Red Dot Pro and most recently a Casino all of which after set ups and some fine tuning proved to be some great guitars.
@@xXxblackendeyesxXx models I have: Casino, SG (p-90), Sg Muse, Gold Glory,"59 Les Paul, Les Paul Special (p-90's) and the Wilshire Pro (with Gibson harness and pots) all are keepers!
nothing surprising about Epi being good. They're actually much better than good. EPI has been around since the 1870's. Models like the Sheraton, Casino and Texan FT-79 are iconic great instruments.
Yeah, but this is a custom shop MIC Epiphone, so there highest end. If you look at the Epiphone Worn Casino, its shocking. Where as my MIA Epi Casino is amazing.
@@marccarter1350 has nothing to do with what I said. I wasn't referring to some "worn Casino" that apparently shocked you. I was commenting on EPI as a designer/builder over the past 150yrs, and some of their classic models. If The Sheraton was good enough for John Lee Hooker, it's likely good enough for anyone
Anyone else thinking about doing an NGD with Austin, GO FOR IT. The guy is top notch, a class act, and was great to deal with. Who wouldn't want a cool little video as a memento on their soon to be guitar? Thanks for reviewing this piece for me and I can't wait to have it in my hands this week!
I have been watching Trogly for years, since back in the carpet days. when he did all of the reviews on the shag carpet. you are very fortunate to do the NGD purchase with him. he will get you off to a great start with you're new guitar congratulations.
Indian laurel is looked down upon in usa, not in other parts of the world. Im from uruguay, and i have a luthier friend who builds classical guitars and he uses it for its sounding preference in some cases and not as a "cheaper wood". Notice, we have supply of Brazilian rosewood since you can go to brasil and bring iif youre not buying waaay too much. However, its not "worse" than brazilian, indian or honduran rosewood, irs just cheaper, more accesible and different
I have a rosewood Gibson Les Paul, and I have this Sheraton with Indian laurel. I really enjoy the way the laurel plays with my fretting hand. I think both types of wood are great, and I actually think the Indian laurel looks prettier than the rosewood, especially after I oil it up like what trogley did with the wood on the tailpiece.
I have one of these and it might be the last guitar I ever buy. The vibrato is stable and versatile, the middle position jangles like a Rickenbacker, and with the right overdrive it sustains like a violin and has really great, highly controllable feedback that becomes a new tool in your playing. Outstanding instrument and a great review
Sheraton's are great guitars in all fairness & I dig those mini-buckers on this one, kinda like a cross between a Casino & a 335 - in that you get all that sweet tone without having to worry about your hollowbody Casino screeching like a Banshee every time you go near your amp lol
52 years ago my best bud got his first guitar - it was a gently-used walnut Crestwood Custom. A month after I got a new '71 maple/sunburst Fender Precision. That Sheraton is lovely and totally gets the Beatles jangle.
The Sheratons have always been a really good guitar for epiphone. The Sheraton 2 was the first real electric guitar I bought in the mid90s at sam ash. Still have it. Figured if my kids eventually play guitar it will be their first one
Epiphone, was Gibson's biggest compaction. Gibson only wanted to buy the Bass part of Epiphone. Eppi, said all or none. That's how Gibson got Epiphone. Long story, Short virsion.
I got Epiphone Les Paul 100th anniversary ltd. Ed from 2016 with Sheraton II pro style neck and headstock, top of their line this year and the first thing to do there is upgrading the nut for a better material. Since I’ve installed a bigsby on it, I went for graphtech self lubricating teflon nut along with shaller roller bridge, so it stays perfectly in tune. Glad to see that epiphones has their quality now and it’s so much fun to play, and they’re perfect project guitars❤
I had a 2008 or so Wilshire with that Trem-o-tone vibrato. They can be temperamental, though apparently the modern ones are WAY better than the vintage ones from the late 1960s.
Hey Trogly , thanks for yet another informative review . First decent guitar I bought with my own money was a 1996 Epiphone Sheraton . Had to purchase a case as well . Got a good deal (1150 Australian Dollars at the time) . Not sure why a lot of the 'gold parts' have turned green ...
Mother of Pearl is actually a blanket term referring to all material made out of mulusk shells... So technically both are mother of pearl. Abalony is a specific type of mother of pearl.
I bought an 2019 Epiphone Riviera 12 string and it came with those same 2015 Gibson Mini Humbuckers, as well. Sounds absolutely fantastic. Has that Byrds/ Roger McGuinn (Turn, Turn, Turn) vibe to it. Never for sale, as it's my favorite 12 string in my collection.
I was wondering if you were going to cover this guitar. And this video dropped the day my 150th anniversary Sheraton arrived in the mail! It’s so pretty, and it sounds amazing so far.
Lovely guitar. I still have sticker shock, though. I have a '97 Sheraton. I have some Duncan '59 pups I need to install in it. I have the 150th Crestwood Custom. It's at the top price I'm comfortable spending on an imported Epiphone, even with the deal my SW rep gave me. It sounds good, and is a quirky, fun to play guitar. I can get a bright, surf sound out of it. I haven't tried crunch yet, but having other mini-hum equipped guitars, am sure it will not disappoint.
Funny thing. From what ive seen, Epiphone has gotten better with their guitars. Some of the work rivals if not surpasses Gibson. Just needs to be a wakeup call to Gibson. Theyve gotten sloppy.
Adam Barrett's channel convinced me I needed a Eppy Hummingbird. I had previously owned an Eppy Les Paul, which I had given away to one of my nephews. I am a Fender cat, mostly, but I have to say, I love the Hummingbird, It's by go-to A/E. Well made, and it has a big voice. So I might just pick up one of those 335 types.
If I'm not mistaken, the specs also call for the guitars to have CTS pots and Switchcraft jacks and toggle switches (which would also help for the pricing to make sense)...😊
I bought this Anniversary Sheraton a month or so ago and it is without question a top tier professional instrument. I have always liked the Sheraton because it is an original Epiphone model, not a copy of a Gibson model. Epiphone introduced it to compete with Gibsons 335. Anyway, the trem on it is fabulous - much smoother than a Bigsby. Killer looking guitar as well. The finish and construction are flawless. My only disappointment is that I wish they would have used rosewood or ebony. It's a beautiful instrument that I'm totally happy with.
I'm still at the start, but omg that's beautiful. When you said it's not trying to be anything else, it's just what it's meant to be, I love that about this. I wish this happened more with guitars like the prs nf53 and paul's guitar.
The 150th Anniversary Sheraton is $1860CAD in Canada! The Emily Wolfe Sheraton and Lucille are closer to $1300CAD and they were once the pricey ones. Having "real" Gibson mini humbuckers could make that price more bearable. Since the Gibson 335 is over $4000CAD and currently no versions have mini humbuckers. I've read Epiphone minis are nothing to sneeze at either and there are lots of options with those. My experience is with Gibson dual blade minis (Al5 and ceramic) and they make for some awesome tones. (Regular minis have a blade slug in one coil and 6 screw slugs in the other.)
My Sheraton is now 40 years old. Plays great sounds great I just love it. Korean made I think. I bought it new in Belgian Franks 27000. Pre Euro. Would be about 700 Euro So absolutey not cheep but worth every penny.
I love Epiphone, but I really can't stand the 1st fret inlays many companies are using. A silly reason not to buy a guitar to some, but after 40 years of playing, I subconsciously use my peripheral vision for hand placement, and the lower inlays throw my playing off occasionally.
I just received my 150th Anniversary Sheraton and it is stunning. It oozes style. The new headstock is a perfect match for this guitar. All the upgrades I would have done come stock. Build quality is top notch. If you’re looking for a full size semi-hollow definitely put this one on your list to check out.
My first guitar was an Epiphone arch top double f hole. My dad got it for me in 1964 for Christmas. I didn't know much about guitars and I was disappointed because I wanted an electric guitar. The guitar was used and all he could afford. At age 76 I am still playing so I guess Epiphone got me started a few years ago. It was made in Kalamazoo.
Ooooo fancy! I have a couple newer Epiphones, a 335 Pro and a Riviera P93T. In other words, they are both really similar to this one. The Rivera also has Gibson pickups on it. I absolutely love these things!!
Got a 335 Figured Epiphone a couple years ago. In a blindfolded matchup against a similar Gibson, I think it would probably do pretty well. The thing sounds and plays beautifully.

“Surprisingly” good? There’s no surprise here; the Epiphone factory in China has been turning out well built instruments for years. Where have you been?
The last few years Epiphones has been killing it on some models
I agree 👍. I have the Epiphone "inspired by Gibson 1955 Les Paul outfit". It came with Gibson p90s. It's simply an amazing quality instrument.

You missed out the most important reason why guitarists prefer Rosewood to Laurel and that's because Rosewood looks much better!

Mini Humbuckers are versatile enough to where you can just use the tone knob for a wide tonal sweep.
Love the aesthetic appointments on this. And you don’t even need to upgrade the pickups!
All the guitars in this series are great. I'd love to try a Crestwood
that is a legit gorgeous guitar and it sounds fucking incredible, chuck berry would rock that one for sure! what a score, congrats brian!

That vibrato appears to be tuning compensated. Should stay in tune pretty well in use while playing chords.
I recently got the Epiphone SLASH. LOVE IT!
