It’s come at a perfect time for me. As last held a guitar 40 years ago. 6o now and these videos are just what I need. I grew up listening to Hendrix, Led Zep, Stones, Doors, Cream and the like. Still my favourite artists (with lot of other stuff in between..........Nirvana , Ben Howard, Alt J and many others). Thank you for you guidance. I have been learning electric guitar for almost a year. I was inspired by David Gilmour’s Floyd concerts on You Tube to, at 35 years old to learn how to play such beautiful music. Thank you for your entertainment and tutelage, Chappers. I am a waiter at a restaurant in the States, and due to this pandemic I am temporarily unemployed.
I love to see who reaches out in trying times like these, and puts out great informative, practical lessons and advice.
    Thank you, Sir Rob Chapman.

Thanks for the tip about the shoulder, didn't realize I was doing that until ye pointed that out (although in my case, it's BOTH shoulders, not just the left). No wonder trying to "play" the guitar was such a pain in the neck for me, literally! ...And shoulders, back and head, LOL!
And the pointers on the fretting pressure for the left hand helped big time, relieved pain in the fingers and hand!

Nice job, Rob! I've been playing for years, but I like to return to beginner lessons occasionally to get out of a rut. Sometimes I might catch a tip or two that I've never considered, or glossed over when I was learning things the first time. For example, I learned from this video to ease up on pressing down the strings. I started learning on a badly out of spec acoustic that required a monkey grip to get any notes out of, and I developed a habit of holding all guitars like that. Maybe a lighter touch will help me get my speed up a little more.

Brian Onuscheck Seriously? Is it even funny? I just wanted this video to be available for French speaking begginers, no big deal right? If only one person can provide subtitles to give access to thousands of young students, it would be much more easier for everyone, right? Anyway, good for you if you can speak English but the problem I wanted Rob to notice is apparently not concerning you. Please let the people who this topic can help do their job. Have a nice day.

@@timbebert ok, iʻll check on my end, I usually watch vids on my cell (more convenient to watch vids while laying in bed using that than laptops). I have seen that option before, BUT I'm not a fluent multilingual, aside from many single words from many languages, so never really paid sttention to that option.
EDIT: I've switched to my chromebook an noticed that the option to submit translation seems to vary from vid to vid. The only option I see available on THIS vid is turning on Auto-Translate and select Francais. Warning tho, Google's translation algorithms sometimes can get wonky, especially with specialty words in any field of expertise. The guitar world has lots that are commonly used, but not used in everyday speech (or is used in a different ways). TBH, it's sometimes hilarious to see what odd translations Google comes up with, but can be disruptive when watching a tutorial vid.

Some more tips from a guitar player:
    * DO NOT buy a Floyd Rose or similar system as your first guitar. It makes tuning a lot more difficult and it won't allow you to just simply tune down to D (or any other tuning). It will require you to re-tune the entire guitar just to change the tuning of one string.
    * Balance is important in a guitar. I recommend you do your research online and try it out in a store. Having a guitar that is well balanced for you makes a huge difference in playing comfort.
    * DO NOT buy a Floyd Rose or similar system as your first guitar. It makes tuning a lot more difficult and it won't allow you to just simply tune down to D (or any other tuning). It will require you to re-tune the entire guitar just to change the tuning of one string.
    * Plectrums come in all shapes and sizes and are made from a wide variety of materials. I highly recommend trying a few different picks and see what works for you and the music your playing.
    * If your playing electric your choice of amplifier and cabinet (the speakers) make a huge difference. I recommend you spend your budget about 30 / 70 spending the majority on the speakers. The cab is the foundation of your sound and if its bad no matter how much you spend on an amp its not going to sound great.
    * Solid state electronics have come a very long way and there is a lot of stuff out there that is really good and not that expensive. It's a bit of a minefield though so do your research before buying anything.
