I'm still chasing the high of the Day 1 Last Wish experience and the absolute joy it gave me to win that race. It was the ideal experience for me and although I don't think we'll get another Day 1 like it. I hope we do.
I feel like a lot of us were too busy, and in some cases, far too 'loyal', in chat with the "24:02 ree" to properly congratulate your team, I feel like. That whole race is still a huge highlight even as a viewer who can't really partake
I tried it for a few hours, could not beat Kalli, went to sleep. Woke up and after breakfast checked who had won. Only to find you guys still at Riven! Awesome experience!
I remember waking up early the day of the Last Wish race, tuning into your stream and watching until I had to go to work. Luckily the restaurant was dead quiet all day, so I got to peak in every thirty minutes or so to see how you were progressing with the rest of Math Class. I got out of work around 10:30 that night, and watched until I passed out around 3am. I woke up the exact moment you dumped Riven's heart into the shrine, watching and waiting to see if you had beat the 24 hour mark. I remember the sound of defeat in all of your voices when you found out about your 24:02 finish, I remember how proud of you chat (myself included) were when you finally crossed that just out-of-reach finish line. That raid race inspired me to start running Day 1's ever since. So even if you didn't get the top slot in the World's First race you got the top slot in my heart, Datto. Your effort to Destiny and its' community is tremendous and everyone here loves you for it. See you in the next raid race, I'll let you hold the belt when I get it
Hey Datto, would LOVE IT if you considered making a video about how YOUR team specifically prepares for events like this! As you may know, Deep Stone Crypt had the highest number of players attempting a day one ever, and I'm sure the Witch Queen raid will top those numbers, so it is very much apparent that new players dig this stuff! It would be great to hear how people who place very highly (such as you and your team) prepare mentally/physically and so on.
My team and I spent 21.5 hours in Deep Stone day 1: one of our teammates got arrested and his replacement was at a party so we spent like an hour or two sitting at atraks waiting to get the full squad again. EDIT: Ex thought he was stalking her because he called to see if she was okay, she called the police.
On DSC my team cleared the first actual encounter just a few minuets after you did but then got pub stomped at Atraks. We spent 13 hours on that encounter before giving up. Although it was a bitch I am proud of our team for our first day 1 raid attempt. When we returned for VoG we moved quickly making it to gatekeeper before worlds first but then spent 8 hours on Atheon before beating him.
The funniest thing about day 1 D2 vog is how much people were expecting to roll aetheon, and then ended up on him for longer than it took some teams to clear the raid lmao
I really hope The Witch Queen raid embraces that King’s Fall/Last Wish raid design philosophy. I wanna go to *war* against 4 or 5 beings of epic proportion.
I want them to talk. No joke. I love that in the campaign of Forsaken we had Barons with voices and personalities. I want more of this in both the story campaign and also in Raids. I loved that Calus actually talked to us in his raid/lairs.
I remember vividly going to bed while you guys were on Riven... and then waking up and you were still on Riven. It was admittedly not a full night's rest because I'd stayed up late watching, but even now it's difficult to describe how it felt seeing you grind away at it for so long. Also that Crown of Sorrows debacle is heartbreaking and my heart hurts for you even after all this time.
My favorite experience was deep stone crypt. Although it was easy it was my first real attempt and clear for day one, it was easily the most fun I’ve had in the game, probably any game I’ve played. Took us 14 hours to complete and when we did I had a true smile on my face for the first time in years. If you haven’t even attempted a day one raid I highly recommend it.
As a spectator, Last Wish was epic! Watching the top teams go through the raid and hitting volt was crazy. And being in the dreaming city when the worlds first completed the race and getting the cut scene was something I will always remember. I then tuned back into your stream to watch you complete it after 24:02.
My only day 1 raid experiences were Crown and Deep Stone, getting carried by people who were on their third or fourth run. Really fun experiences, really made me appreciate that portion of the destiny community who will just replay things so that other people can experience it. Also, after that first run in Crown I started sherpa-ing a lot of people through that raid, especially during MOT, and really got a kick out of that.
Day 1 DSC is my favorite so far, we struggled a bunch on Crypt Security for dumb reasons, just not figuring out that we need to pass scanner down stairs for DPS phase. By the time we got to Atraks-1 we looked up strategies, which killed some of the blind prog experience but I'll never forget my first time going in the launch pod
I've only cared about the blind experience (just getting the clear while being underleveled and having to figure everything out is enough of an ask without also competing with the pros out there) and the 24-hour emblem, which I started seriously going for with Crown of Sorrow. I *really* wanted that emblem; it's gorgeous. But I was stuck on the underleveled chaos of the final encounter for like 12 hours, going from team to team on LFG after my clan went to bed, trying to find people who could get it done. Towards the end I was so depressed, and I was literally falling asleep during attempts. That was a hard defeat, but after the level difference ceased to be an issue Gahlran eventually became one of my all-time favorite raid encounters. I finally got a 24-hour emblem with Deep Stone Crypt, where my team cleared it in around 11 hours, and I hope to again in whatever The Witch Queen has to offer us. Here's hoping the emblem's a pretty one.
DSC was heartbreaking for me, which is a shame because it’s one of my favourite raids. In the first encounter we figured it out in a few runs (we actually overcomplicated it by doing it the challenge mode way on day 1) and that brought so much momentum going into Atraks, and then we just faceplanted into a wall. Part of it was definitely the health rubber banding issue that Atraks had on day 1, but we also just made dumb mistakes and had some people that stubbornly refused to change loadouts that weren’t working. We ended up stuck at Atraks for 14 hours and called it quits at like 5 or 6 in the morning, and never finished it day 1. It’s a shame because the space walk with Deep Stone Lullaby is one of my favourite Destiny experiences to date, and I’ve seen SO many people talk about how special it was after finally getting past Atraks and really wish I got to experience it. Crown was actually one of my favourite day 1 experiences, and the boss fight was one of my favourites for a while. We didn’t even plan to run the raid day 1 because we thought we didn’t have a team, but by chance ended up with 6 people online and decided to go for it. I was really proud of how well we did figuring out the mechanics and performing in the boss fight under context, and I think if one of our guys hadn’t rage quit we might have had a day 1 clear. I don’t remember exactly but I think we were in the top 10 teams to clear it on console in the first week.
These feel really nostalgic, even though I personally don't enjoy doing day 1 raid races. The last two my clan tried were both messes, so I decided they're not for me. But it's still cool to look back on people's experiences and see the difference in the games.
Only had a few Day 1 experiences as a on-off player (I'll usually play for a few weeks very solidly at the start and end of a season and play other games in the middle) Finished none of them on day 1 but found them all awesome because going in with a totally blind fireteam working out the mechanics for yourselves as you go and seeing some of the locations for the first time is awesome. (My day 1s were: Wrath, Garden & Vault of glass D2 edition) Pretty sure we died at least twice in the fields of cyclopses just from admiring the view. Bonus points to leviathan for going in blind as a team but not day 1; that entrance felt stunning at the time in its scale.
I was there the whole stream for kings fall… thank god I was in high school so yeh… I was so dumbfounded by how big KF was I was so intimidated trying it for the first time…… but the raid is amazing I hope it gets the vault treatment with a remaster.. love every gun every boss fight every encounter. Isn’t by far the best raid but one of my personal favorites.
I remember doing eater of worlds on day one, your explanation as to why it was ranked so low was perfect. It was way too easy, but I guess technically it was meant to be that way since it was called a raid lair. Definitely going to do witch queen raid on day one cause nothing is cooler in this game when you figure it out with minimal or no help.
I have to agree with most of this list, only swapping a few around by one position. Last Wish for me has been Bungie's pinnacle raid experience in my eyes. Vault of Glass always holds a special spot for being the first Raid I've ever done and Kings Fall is near the top for being that massive refresh we all needed in Taken King but for me Last Wish was just so damn perfect with the entire story of the dreaming city, the fact we could see the raid in the open world and just the scale of the raid plus it was maybe the first raid for me were I took part in the worlds 1st race, though my team didn't beat it until day 3 so that was a bust. Still we remember being just as fast as everyone else on the first boss, but the Vault grinded us to a halt real quick lol. I still look at Last Wish as a fond memory, I just enjoy that even beyond a raid now it's fun to use it for catalysts and even just to glitch into and explore around the area's and play mini games like hide and seek in. Great video Datto. I love these look back styles where you give us more input on things and be proud of that 24:02:00 that's dedication.
My teams day 1 for DSC ended with everyone having no hope at the end. We got to taniks and got him down to something equivalent of like .01% where even a single grenade would kill him, and two of my teammates missed their Izzy shots and one of my teammates missed his grenade. Definitely a soar spot haha
Day 1 Wrath when we didn't have a full team. My best friend, myself and our 3rd went in to "have a look". Figured out the mechanics at the entrance and just as we were on the last damage round before he teleported away another friend joined the chat party and was not ready for the bombardment of "get in here" he was about to receive. We spent the next few hours exploring and figuring out the next encounter but had to wait for a full team to get a completion.
I got into Destiny shortly after D2 launched on PC. Leviathan was one of my favorite activities to play, but I didn't really play the game super regularly until black armory. It took a long time for me to build up the confidence to attempt day 1 raid. My first was DSC and I wear that emblem with pride. 15 hours, 7 of them at Atrax. Status Calamitus is burned into my brain. Went on to do VoG2.0 blind day 1 cause no one on my team played D1. Can't wait for witchqueen to try it again.
that point about day 1 being more stressful than fun I can resonate with a lot because I love the challenge of day 1 but the pressure of doing it in 24 hours sucks a lot of fun out of it
My only experience for day 1 was for DSC and Vog 2.0. I enjoyed the work and stress that taxed me the following day during DSC and probably is still my favorite experience with just how raw and exciting the adrenaline felt. Vog to me felt like a snooze fest since the team I kept playing with couldn't get the damage by templar.
I remember being at work and taking a 10 min break and pulling out my phone to see if anyone was doing VoG thinking it was a glorified strike like you mentioned. I spent the next 7 hours after work watching Dayton in the race with his awful Hand Cannon glitch lol. Those were the best times of Destiny. I hope someday it feels like that again for me, now it’s just a chore but I still play. Here to Witch Queen and hopefully a true BANGER of a Raid. See y’all at the finish line
My raid group got our first ever day 1 completion on VOG 2, although we didn’t have time or energy to do challenge mode, but we were just happy we finally completed one. Especially after the heart break with spending 22 hours in DSC and not getting it at Tanik fight or garden because it was super laggy on console. I’m very excited to give Witch Queen raid a try, hopefully I can find a PS5 in time so the operating system can keep up
My only experience with Day one raid racing is with Deep Stone Crypt. My uncle had gotten really into the game (I already was) and he bought us both Beyond Light. We grinded for hours every day and were doing really well for ourselves. When DSC was announced, he texted me and all he said was "We're doing it". And we did, we got to light level, started streaming, and hopped into the raid. Things were going well in the beginning, we were keeping up with most of the high end raid teams, we thought we might get a high placing, and then Atraks came in and killed the run. We played dsc for about 16-17 hours that day, no bathroom breaks or food breaks and didn't end up beating it. But the fun we had, the banter, the hope, and the great teamwork is what makes it my favorite destiny experience.
I really hope this next raid in WQ will be something to give you, Datto, the excitement you have been looking for. She is the Hive god of trickery, so maybe no encounter will run in any standard way. Here's to hoping.
I've never done a day 1 raid, closest thing I have done to it is Grasp of Avarice on day 1, which is obviously nothing compared to the difficulty of a day 1 raid, but I hope that this time in the Witch Queen I do get to experience the day 1 raid. Day 1 GoA was super fun so I can already imagine how much fun day 1 of the witch queen raid will be.
That face when datto ranks your two favorite day ones as the worst, feels bad. Also, that feeling about dsc feeling too easy after a year of no raids is hugely relatable, especially after the thrill and how hard sanctified mind was. I don't know if was the huge difficulty or the feel of the older raids, but I really hope the witch queen raid delivers big on difficulty in both mechanics and enemies, cuz I just haven't felt pumped since gos, or maybe even before that back with lw.
I feel like the reason DSC was so easy was due to the fact that the adds just didn't do shit in that raid for some reason. Like on contest mode, people just ran double slug + anarchy since the adds couldn't even kill you lmao. The chaos room in any other raid would've been a death sentence due to add density but in this one it was a joke.
Vog 2: electric boogaloo was my first day 1 raid experience, complete with having joined a new clan just the season prior. We all managed to make it to atheon, despite having LFG woes. Super proud of what we did and we're all stoked to try twq raid day 1!
I’m hoping witch queen raid is on the levels of last wish in terms of difficulty and the aftermath. Like what beating the raid did like unlocking the shattered throne and the 14 wishes and other exotic quests and how the effects of beating that raid is still lasting today. We get a raid like last wish again and man I’ll be happy
Only tried day one twice. In DSC, we got to Atraks pretty quickly, only like an hour and a half of effort. We were stuck on atraks for 10 hours I think, not including like 2 hours of down time so people could take care of responsibilities (including me taking an online final for a class). We beat her at like 6 in the morning and we're all too tired to even bother trying to finish it so we didn't even attempt phase 1 Taniks. In VoG, we were stuck on templar for like 6 hours and then people started fighting and the team dissolved. So DSC was way more fun
I remember so specifically being SO excited and happy for datto watching him get world 1st on crown and then finding out it was a fake out on bungee’s end and being crushed
I only recently (this past weekend) learned that about your Last Wish run. Watched a bunch of the full run and then went and watched your guides for it. I did not think you would rate this your #1 but I completely understand why you did. Had to be one hell of an experience.
I try day races since kings´s fall, sometimes with random people, sometimes my team got tired and give up. But in Vault 2.0 I finally complete and it was amazing, unique feeling, now we want to repeat it in witch queen raid
This weekend was my first Day One Raid despite my playing since Alpha and holy crap I was not ready for how much contest mode amps things up to 11. The fact that you regularly come in the upper echelon of teams is impressive as hell
Leviathan was my first raid not counting the 2 man carry 2 of my friends did for me in Crotas End before Destiny 2 came out. I never had friends to play Destiny with until just before the launch of Destiny 2. I was fortunate enough to be brought back by a friend who played the entirety of D1 with me and I’m so grateful for it. Leviathan was my first raid and I finished it week 1 no glitching. It will always be MY personal treasured raid and I would love it to come back. I still have the weapons from my first clear and will never delete them.
My favorite Day 1 memory is not participating in the race, and then watching videos about how to do everything, and be of help whenever I finally would do it
My 1st day 1 heartbreak was dsc , goto final boss and got taniks down to final stand and couldnt get back to final stand , so after 18 hours my team gave up . Was truly a heartbreaking moment for me
I've only taken part of 2 day 1 raids, VoG #2, and Scourge. I find that when it comes to figuring out mechanics, it's faster and more efficient to do as you say, die to everything and rule out as much as you can and then gun for the strat when it presents itself
DSC will always be my fav day 1 experience and raid of all time. There was just something about the launch of beyond light and getting that day 1 clear after spending almost 8 hours on atraks that felt so rewarding. Even with streamers and whatnot saying it was too easy or a handout that will always be my favorite destiny moment ever and it’ll be hard to top.
Deep Stone Crypt was it for me. 3 second clutch on Crypt Security, beating Atraks after some 10 hours and then killing Taniks at 5:47pm, 13 minutes before reset. I will never forget that experience
Eater of Worlds is the only raid I’ve completed on day one. I remember I wasn’t even trying to complete it, my family and I had just brought a Christmas tree home, it was like 5:00 in the afternoon and I hopped on Xbox and went to LFG. Got it done in just under an hour
I have only participated in three Day 1 experiences: King's Fall, Deep Stone Crypt, and Vault of Glass in D2. King's Fall was a ton of fun, but also a lot of stress, because at the time, I just started uni, so I wasn't grinding levels like crazy. I don't quite remember which level we started at, but at Totems, I was like, 30 light underleveled, so we actually had to back out, grind some levels, and come back a couple hours later just to have a chance. We ended up reaching the Deathsingers, and we were pretty beaten up at that moment. Deep Stone was a journey. We spent like 8 straight hours on Atraks-1, and after 16 or so hours in the raid, we had to leave, because we were wiping out of tiredness. Almost the same experience with VoG 2, since we spent like 4 hours in Oracles, just because we weren't gaming, another 4 in Templar, a couple in Gatekeepers, and the rest of the time at Atheon. Left at the 13 or 14th hour in because we weren't giving the right callouts, not even reaching the challenge mode. I am still pumped for Witch Queen to try to get a Day 1 emblem for the first time.
You know, for all the memes that came out on 24:02, I think the silver lining it actually made your team as famous or talked about as the WF team. Can’t tell you how many people I encountered who knew who redeem and the 24:02 teams were, but couldn’t even name the second team.
My first Day 1 raid experience was running VoG 2 electric boogaloo. Mainly the gatekeeper encounter and trying to kill Atheon. I instantly picked up on Atheon’s oracles memory game and told my team about it. Ended up dipping at like 4am after trying to kill Atheon for a solid 4 and a half hours. It was fun though and PvE endgame content finally sunk their fangs into me.
Even though I don't have no day 1 experience when it comes to raids, I absolutely made sure I was at least in the raid for Garden on day 1. I matched with an LFG group and they were the most chillest guys I've ever played with. The atmosphere was great and I felt comfortable since it wasn't so competitive but rather "lets play and have fun and see if we can beat it." It was the most fun I had in Destiny. Our group was so chill that during the 2nd encounter we used baseball terminology for the callouts of the relay points. Angelic at 3nd base! Wave the runner home I need a buff! Angelic is trying to steal 2nd! "Bit exaggerated" but that's basically how it went and I loved it. We managed to complete that encounter and the atmosphere was amazing. Unforunately they all had to go and I was never able to get back in contact with them. One of those in the moment moments. 2nd for me has to be completing VoG for the first time. I'll remember every single one of us screaming as if we won the super bowl. It was... Unbelievable. I know a lot of people find fun in chasing after that worlds 1st. But for me personally, I enjoy the experience of playing a new raid and figuring out the mechanics :)
Arrggghhh!! My eyes!! How on earth did we cope with that FOV back in D1? Jumping from D2 (Scourge) straight into that D1 Kings Fall section makes it so clear how much difference there is! Wow.
My first raid experience was VoG in D1. I was casually patrolling venus and saw 5 germans trying to enter the vault, and asked if they needed help (I barely knew anything about the raid). We reached the templar fight, and then most of the group had to leave.
So, day 1 DSC was really special to me. It was at a point in my Destiny career where, having been in the game since Dark Below, I started to wonder if I'd ever be challenged again. I couldn't participate in Crown or Garden due to technical difficulties and not having a team respectively. But this time? I was going All. The. Way. I jumped in on the day 1 team early in my new clan, and we went in and got stuck on Atraks-1 for about... 5, maybe 6 hours? This was a mind-melting experience, let me tell you that. Eventually, we figured out that yes, the DPS window is indeed that small, and about a thousand attempts later we beat her. Then came the spacewalk. That... was really incredible. It was such a perfect moment after so much suffering. After we beat the Descent, we had to go to sleep. We reconvened at like 7AM EST to finish off Taniks and that was it. I still got the group photo we took with the body. I'd finally gotten the challenge I wanted, but that was the furthest thing from my mind at that moment. In fact, NOTHING was on my mind. See, the final clear time came in at about 10 HOURS. That is the longest gaming session I'd ever pulled and I straight up lost touch with reality. I had to go say hello to everyone I knew because my brain felt like it got hit with a factory reset. It was a miracle I knew my own name. I was really sad to see contest mode go that reset though. Highly recommend.
For VoG 2 my team ran day 1 with 2 people who had never done vog before. We cleared the whole thing although we didn't go back in for challenges. Super fun memory.
I've only ever been able to attempt 2 day 1s (DSC and VoG) as I never had a consistent raid group up until that point. Out of the original fireteam for our DSC, only 2 of us actually remained upon completing it 18 hours after it came out. I was running completely on Monster and Advil at that point, but that's to this day the best experience I've had in any game. That emblem will NEVER come off, even if I get day 1 Witch Queen raid.
From a viewer POV, Last Wish is far and away the best day one raid race. I vividly remember how teams were progressing past the first three bosses at a decent pace and bam, the goddamn Vault. Then stuck on Riven and finally the big surprise encounter, Queenswalk. Hell, Last Wish is in my opinion the best raid they've ever made to this day. The story that plays through the raid is really cool too with how you're freeing the Techeuns, getting past the security mechanisms barring you from the last Ahamkara. You'd expect that the raid would end when Riven died, but hell no, now you got to bring it's heart to the techeuns you freed earlier and backtrack through the vault guarded by Taken. Seriously, mad props to Bungie. I'm not sure if I want to call it a 'masterpiece' yet, but it's damn close. Morgeth is the only thing I find to be pretty middling in the raid to be honest.
My first day 1 experience was deep stone crypt. Not the fondest but I still enjoyed it. We were going into it JUST with the intent of clearing it day one. Had some friends watching us, as I was streaming, and we got thru the first encounter super fast according to them. I feel like that info sorta bogged us down tho, cause we all got amped from it-- but IMMEDIATELY got curb stomped at atracks. So much so that like 2 of our fire team members called it quits after a few attempts. Was really bummed that we couldn't keep going but oh well. Excited to try again for witch queen
I've only been around for 2 day 1 raids and had to LFG both of them, Deep Stone was one hell of an experience but getting the clear on hour 26 felt like a slap in the face. We couldn't make DPS because all of the good options had been vaulted (I started playing during Arrivals), at least not during Contest. Ton of fun and some of the highest highs I've had playing Destiny, but it was pretty crushing not getting the day 1. VoG, on the other hand, was miserable. Not because of the raid itself, but because of the inability to find teams that were willing to allow people with no D1 raid experience in, plus the stress of having to do two contest mode raids in 24 hours in addition to every challenge was a bit too much. Ended up running out of time on the normal Atheon run. Really hope future reprised raids don't force you to do this.
I came to the game after Forsaken had launched and never participated in the day one raids until Garden of Salvation. That was a good experience, although we didn't get a day one clear on that. I stayed up so long and so many team mates got swapped out, but in the end we just couldn't get it done. Although, it turned out to be a great experience as I met many people through LFG that joined our clan that I play with to this day. Deep Stone Crypt was one that I did day one, but I'm still pissed off that my group quit with about two hours to go until the contest was over. We absolutely had it in the bag and the next pull or so would have done it. We were super close but some people just couldn't keep going. This was also crappy as ours was one of the first teams to get past Atraks-1 during the contest. Vault of Glass was one that no one in the clan really seemed to care about. Most bailed on the contest with tons of time to spare. I'm not sure why. We will be running the day one when Witchqueen comes out, but my experiences doing the day one raids are a mixed bag to say the least. Out of the three I've done, I probably enjoyed Deep Stone the most. Outside of Atraks, I don't think it was really all that hard. Garden was a beating on the other hand. That last boss was a nightmare early on.
I have only did 2 day one raids (Wrath of the Machine and Deep Stone Crypt) but Ive been an avid player of the game for awhile. Day one DSC was hands down, the most memorable and fun time I've ever had with my clan, Garrison. We took 6th, but we actually made it to boss first and made it through Atraks fairly fast compared to other teams, which even tho we didn't finsih it first was a huge W for us since it was our first race together. Wether you win or lose, I HIGHLY reccomend partaking in this race, just for the experience.
I’ve only attempted two day 1s. We got a treat for both. Day 1 deep stone was weird. I beat Atraks and taniks, but didn’t complete security or taniks phase 1 so I didn’t get the emblem LOL, and my mom took me off the game after 20 hrs so, and the vog. We got to atheon in 1 hr 22 min. But took 12 hrs to complete it. 12! I got a different team set up and got the clear in 19 hr 20 min on challenge
I had the same experience in vog 2. My team arrived at Atheon in 2 hours I think and then another 10 to kill him. Then it was 4 in the morning and we didn't bother doing the challenge mode lol. We were stressed and happy enough with our normal clear already and too tired to keep on pushing. No emblem but still a day one tag on raid.report lol.
My favorite moment during day 1 raids for me was during vog D2. A little bit into gatekeeper my power went out. I was calling my friends seeing if I could finish day 1 at their place. I ended up going to my grandmas house finish the raid. Luckily it didn’t set us back too bad, only an hour or two and was able to complete the day 1 still.
I enjoy day 1 and the race especially since it feels like I’m watching like cod champ or something. I couldn’t agree more about this list. I very much am in the same boat
i remember garden of salvation, i wanted to be a worlds first in something but i knew i had no chance in winning, so i just paid really close attention to stuff in order to be the "worlds first person to discover them", which sounds dumb now but it made me feel really happy at the time that i was the first person to discover them.
VoG D2 was my first day 1 raid. I was new to the game at that time, DSC was the only raid I knew well, with one or two clears of LW and GoS each. I didn't have a lot of good weapons or mods, and I wasn't good at the game in general back then. My team was kinda a bunch of randoms from my clan who didn't have a team but wanted to raid. I had fun. I did get PTSD dreams where I heard Oracles and Gorgons for the next few days though. It was stressful but still fun, and I look forward to the WQ day 1 raid as a much more prepared player now.
i don’t know why but i have a feeling bungie is about to deliver us the greatest expansion of the franchise. and it’s going to because of the insane ass raid… just a feeling i have. another note, kings fall is imo the greatest raid bungie has made. the dreadknaught plus the challenge of collecting those fragments for touch of malice. another great raid and i hope to see this one return is crown of sorrows one of the coolest raid designs bungie has made
I remember spending 9-10 hours on my first riven clear. It was my first day one race, and we didn't complete it until well into the next day. Everyone but me and our clan leader dropped out and we had to lfg people to finish. It was worth every moment.
Despite it being easy, Deep Stone Crypt was the first raid I ever tried to complete day one. My team and I beat Atraks, but we just couldn’t kill Taniks and at almost 6 in the morning, I gave up because my original team gave up, other teams I was trying to lfg for were giving up, and I gave up due to the sheer exhaustion I was feeling. I REALLY wish I could have stuck it out a little more on day one while the contest modifier was still active, but I ended up beating Taniks the day after after the day one contest modifier was disabled. While I can say that I was on one of the teams that was able to beat Atraks on day one, It doesn’t really measure up to being able to say I completed the full raid on Day One. At least Raid Report recognizes that I completed the raid on the first week which I’m a little thankful about.
the first raid i decided to do on day 1 was king’s fall. had an lfg group, all nice guys and all of us were determined to get this done completely blind, no video tutorials, nothing. we actually did really well, got all the way to golgoroth with little to no hiccups, even beat the warpriest relatively quickly… but oh my… that ogre really did a number on us, think we were stuck on him for like 8 hours or something crazy like that, one of our team members left and we ended up getting a guy in that already beat the raid, he was kind enough not to spoil anything for us but he kinda sherpad us through the rest of it. even though we didn’t complete it 100% blind, it’s still one of my best memories in destiny
Vault of Glass in Destiny 2 was first day one raid. I spent at normal mode raid 12 hours and 29 minutes and didn't beat it, because I and people that I played with (team was formed at LFG Discord literally 5 minutes before day one raid started) didn't have enough damage to kill Atheon. Datto, before raid I watched your D1 VOG guide to be familiar with mechanics, I didn't want to do blind run day one raid.
I wasn't expecting your number 1, given all of its circumstances. Really cool hearing your opinions of the game as time goes on, been watching your stuff since the D1 beta! Keep up the awesome content 😁
My clan typically runs day 1 raids for the fun of it, but it can make or break teams at times. Underlying issues between members can really become apparent during raids.
My buddies and I tried to do Leviathan on Day 1, but we never even got close to the top of the leaderboard then. We also tried Garden on Day 1, which was a much more enjoyable experience for all of us (even though we didn't get close to Top 30). Even so, I'd do the With Queen raid with them again on Day 1 because I feel like we're so much more prepared this time around.
I have been around for every day 1 race and have participated in every last one, but only once did I rank anything below top 10k. Vault V2 was the only day 1 race I ranked below 10k, I managed to rank top 6k with an LFG group. Me and my clan went in and ended up giving up at the 13 hour mark, someone had to leave due to studies and it just turned into some dominoes. I did not want to give up that easily, so I managed to find a group at templar, which is where I left with my clan, and managed to get it done in just over the 23 hour mark. That day was so much fun, I never go into these expecting you know top 100 or top 1k, but I go in expecting a challenge and expecting to have fun with whomever I challenge it with. 23 hours of fighting a D1 raid in D2 just for top 6k is perfectly fine with me. I got my jacket and my ring and my emblem, I'm happy. To all those who read this (I doubt datto will or did) best of luck to you if you have plans to race in Witch Queen. I will see you all at the finish line. Stay safe guardians
Only did Crypt and New VoG day one, Crypt was a bit of a nightmare because me and a friend had a falling out on it, but man. VoG was fun. It was a bit stressful, our brains were fried as hell, and even though we didn’t clear it, I thought we did okay considering we’d never even done a GM at that point. Looking forward to Witch Queen
really enjoying the "rating excperiences in destiny" videos datto, keep em coming
I’m really enjoying you.
Agreed keep it up
I'm still chasing the high of the Day 1 Last Wish experience and the absolute joy it gave me to win that race. It was the ideal experience for me and although I don't think we'll get another Day 1 like it. I hope we do.
Know it’s been like forever since that race, but still congrats on first for it
I feel like a lot of us were too busy, and in some cases, far too 'loyal', in chat with the "24:02 ree" to properly congratulate your team, I feel like. That whole race is still a huge highlight even as a viewer who can't really partake
man i keep going back to that 18 hr day 1 last wish VOD from Sweat every year or so around the anniversary because it was SO HYPE.
I tried it for a few hours, could not beat Kalli, went to sleep. Woke up and after breakfast checked who had won. Only to find you guys still at Riven! Awesome experience!
Y’all hear sum
I respect putting the 24:02 run at #1, shows that the meme couldn't kill Datto's respect for the raid
See you in the next raid race, I'll let you hold the belt when I get it
Wholesome
Hey Datto, would LOVE IT if you considered making a video about how YOUR team specifically prepares for events like this! As you may know, Deep Stone Crypt had the highest number of players attempting a day one ever, and I'm sure the Witch Queen raid will top those numbers, so it is very much apparent that new players dig this stuff! It would be great to hear how people who place very highly (such as you and your team) prepare mentally/physically and so on.
Datto now getting second for the third time recently with VoTD makes this list even more sad how this man doesn’t have a WF
@Kevman917 Yeah wait a second, hol the fuck up
That sounds like a hell of a story.
You’ve gotta explain this story my friend lmao
Adding a comment so I can get notifications on this thread lmao
Now that is a hell of a story
Nah 4 encounters two bosses
@@castamasta5713 lol
Same honestly but i could go without the impossibility of last wish day 1
@@Maestro-K1121 Your comment aged well
I remember vividly going to bed while you guys were on Riven... and then waking up and you were still on Riven.
I remember watching last wish… going to sleep… and waking up to still see Datto toughing it out. What an experience
Ending the video at 12:02 as a homage to 24:02? Regardless, the Last Wish raid full video remains one of my favorites.
These feel really nostalgic, even though I personally don't enjoy doing day 1 raid races. The last two my clan tried were both messes, so I decided they're not for me. But it's still cool to look back on people's experiences and see the difference in the games.
Only had a few Day 1 experiences as a on-off player (I'll usually play for a few weeks very solidly at the start and end of a season and play other games in the middle)
Finished none of them on day 1 but found them all awesome because going in with a totally blind fireteam working out the mechanics for yourselves as you go and seeing some of the locations for the first time is awesome.
(My day 1s were: Wrath, Garden & Vault of glass D2 edition)
Pretty sure we died at least twice in the fields of cyclopses just from admiring the view.
If datto ever wins a destiny raid race it wouldn’t be a mathclass W. It will be a community W.
While its no a raid Mathclass has the awesome distinction of being the first to figure out and decipher the Outbreak Prime quest.
Man I can't wait for The Witch Queen raid. I am pretty sure the delay will pay off and we will have an absolute blast! Loved your list, Datto
Can't wait for witchqueen to try it again.
that point about day 1 being more stressful than fun I can resonate with a lot because I love the challenge of day 1 but the pressure of doing it in 24 hours sucks a lot of fun out of it
I'm so glad I got to watch that last wish run live. What a time
My only experience for day 1 was for DSC and Vog 2.0.
This is a great example of how things can go terribly wrong and still be your favourite experience. Last Wish, what a crazy and challenging raid.
I’m very excited to give Witch Queen raid a try, hopefully I can find a PS5 in time so the operating system can keep up
Datto your amazing my go to destiny mathematician. You are the reason I got into destiny and loved it ever since
My only experience with Day one raid racing is with Deep Stone Crypt.
Thank you Datto, for keeping this video under an hour.
I was there for the entire last wish and I regret absolutely nothing. Amazing!
Lol he's a UA-camr and not even a really good one
So DSC was way more fun
another datto vid to satisfy my endless cycle of rewatching content
I remember so specifically being SO excited and happy for datto watching him get world 1st on crown and then finding out it was a fake out on bungee’s end and being crushed
I only recently (this past weekend) learned that about your Last Wish run. Watched a bunch of the full run and then went and watched your guides for it. I did not think you would rate this your #1 but I completely understand why you did. Had to be one hell of an experience.
Datto rating different destiny things is has easily become my favorite content on UA-cam. Except og course datto talking about outlaw rampage
I was there for both the 24:02 and Crown of Sorrow. Those moments were heart breaks. I know that you and your team will get a World's First someday.
Og d1 player and id say day 1 kings fall for me is like the last wish day 1 for you. So memorable, remember every moment
Arrggghhh!!
Atraks is a HER??!!
@@SyllyNL Yup. Excerpt from part 4 of the book "The Once-Shipstealer": "Atraks bows her head out of respect."
@@LyonEnigma Crazy, never knew
24:02 has got to be the biggest Destiny meme and I think this achievement is much greater than a day 1 emblem.
DSC was my first Day 1 experience. We didn't get past Atraks in the first 24, but it was still a great excursion with my tightest clanmates.
I love this video, you can feel the excitement when Datto talks about shits that actually interests him. Much love.
I’ll never forget watching the Last Wish day 1 experience
What you said about Last Wish is what it’s all about. Lunacy and resilience.
24 hrs on one game, that is dedication, I couldnt.
“I have no shame in saying I cried about it.” Don’t worry Datto, all of us would have cried to.
Fitting he said that about a raid called crown of “sorrow”
My favourite Day 1 Raid has got to Last Wish. My team got stuck fast on Vault, but it was still great.
Really hope future reprised raids don't force you to do this.
last wish is truly one of the most goated videogame experiences I've had the pleasure of participating in
24:02 baby, the longest raid in destiny history, you guys should still be proud
Beating the original vault of glass was one of my best experiences of my life
Vault of Glass in Destiny 2 was first day one raid.
VOG D1, i remember going back to tower with my chatterwhite on after my 1st hard completion and feeling like a GOD. 🙂
