Amen! And each other. This is what other countries have told me… “Why respect a culture whereas they do NOT respect their own.” They (black people in the masses do NOT help their own grow and climb the financial ladder). In order to have world dominance, many/most of us would need to be wealthy and carry ourselves with dignity. You see how all the other races circulate their currency within their race significantly more than the black races? They are strengthening their own globally by doing this. We also have to make black individuals who are willing to sell out their own. (These are typical and daily debates that we had at my HBCU... as well as what I have observed over time.)

I'm black...found a wonderful man in Italy but also experienced blatant racism by a security guard at a museum. He screamed and accused me of having a knife in my bag. I opened my back pack and all I had was a bottle of vitamins and a croissant. 🥴 He was very embarrassed for the whole scene made and apologized. I visited Italy (southern Italy), and I had no problems with the locals. I won't forget when in Sicily I was amongst a crowd bunched together, trying to get onto transportation. There was this white American guy who thought he could be nasty to me & push me. Before I could react, the entire crowd of Sicilians was not having that. They reacted to him so quickly, like, 'yooo wtf do you think you're doing?!' He got back right real quick. I felt that ❤😊❤

Do Italians have the concept of intellectual reaching? That's when a person goes out of their way to bring ideas together that are completely unrelated to make any number of points. They think it's convenient to use the issue in front of them and contort to try to make them relate when even the most basic common sense shows that it doesn't. This looks like the case with you.

As we have seen from history, ignorance is an almost incurable disease, and takes many forms, understanding the nonsense of it should just make you laugh and understand that by them thinking that way, by not being comparable, you're already a better human being. I hate whichever institution created these racial ideas, for humanity and the rest of the animal kingdom, they're used very differently. A simple variation in skin tone is not a different race, we are all one, humanity, with different demographics and origins of ancestry, which still leads back to the same place... We don't even have a subspecies lol or that would be neanderthals and so on. So who TF thought race was good for differentiating the shades of man? Also scientifically, genetic diversity is the best thing lol, mating with your own demographic creates a very limited gene pool, which brings in mutations, the bad types.
Its true. This happened to my daughter and I while we were on vacation. in Rome. We could not even get a taxi to stop for us. We were so grateful when a man came out of the crowd and told us to step back and flagged the taxi. It stopped for him. That night we were invited to an outdoor concert but we decided against going because we were afraid we would not get a taxi to our hotel. That was just one of many incidents during the week we spent there. Next stop..somewhere in Africa. Why should I spend good money with people who hate us?
I am not trying to gaslight you in any way, but getting a taxi in Rome is a skill, sometimes I had to put myself in the middle of the street, they’re driving like crazy.
@@takumifujiwara9181 I guess it depends on the hour as well, here in Italy around 8/9 and 16/17 it’s difficult to get into any taxi, and the streets are packed with people and cars, but yeah, I don’t think there’s any racist issue, it’s just a taxi, and also, it’s not that common here to stop taxis in the street, there are parking lots reserved for taxis and there you can find them waiting for people. Sometimes here in busy cities you HAVE to ask the hotel for taxi reservations because there are some moments of the day when you need to have it.
The taxi wasn't the only issue, as I've said before. It just highlighted what had been a series of people looking you in your face with hostility when you said good morning. Also, the butcher shop refused to sell us, although we were sent by the people at the corner who knew him. The hotel who put us in a backstreet apartment, although we had booked months ahead for the main hotel. We are not bad travelers and know that you treat people the way you want to be treated. We appreciated the gentleman who came to our rescue and don't think all Italians are the same. However, there were too many incidents that ruined the experience for us. Hence, me saying I'd rather go where I feel more welcome. Thank you very much.
You don't get a taxi like that in Rome . There's special locations for it or you can order one through an app. My husband is black and had no issues at all (I lived in Rome before we got married). Only Black people who actually live in Italy can speak to what that experience is like. I have visited various regions of Italy, too, and had a wonderful time, overall. Nevertheless, I would never doubt the experiences of Blacks who actually live there. One Italian woman made a racist remark to me at a restaurant, and I chose to ignore her. Oddly, I also saw Italian men dressed in Black face costumes for an event during the winter holidays. It was very disturbing to see, but because I don't speak the language, I could not question people about what I saw. It definitely made me feel uncomfortable. Despite these 2 negative incidents, I enjoyed my trip, as a tourist, and I love the Italian culture, the food, the architecture, the fine art, the opera, and so forth. Racism against Blacks is a global phenomenon. Blacks are the original race. Furthermore, Blacks are very talented, intelligent, and beautiful people, so the envy reflects the insecurities and self-hatred of those who perpetrate racism. The problem lies deep within them.
A few years back my friend was catching a train from one city to another when she got on she saw a compartment with two black men sitting in it. She thought nothing of it and went and sat in a different section of the train. A few minutes into the journey this white woman walked up to her and started yelling at her in Italian. She couldn’t understand and so asked the white man sitting next to her to translate. Basically she was mad that my friend who is black was sitting in the with them and told her to move to the compartment at the back with the other blacks. She was really aggressive and threatening. Nobody said a word or stood up for her. So for her own safety she went to the back. She asked one of the black men about it and he said he had lived there for years and it’s just always been that way. This was about 8 years ago. Italy has a huge problem. It’s has completely changed my attitude towards all Italian because this attitude is tolerated by Italians who say they aren’t racist. It not enough to not be racist, to truly change thing you have to be ANTI racist. Someone should have stood up for my fiend and called out that racist woman but they kept their head down and said nothing. That makes them no better. All I know is had that been me. I would’ve ended up in an Italian jail because I black backside wouldn’t have moved an inch. To this day what happened to her infuriates me.
Is that a law or just a cultural norm in whatever part of Italy that was? My black a** would’ve stayed right there. Illegal or not they would’ve had to physically move me.

I’m actually shocked because I’m a dark skinned Indian American and Italians who visit America are so kind to me despite me not being white and being heavily tatted they treated me like a human being so this is kind of wild to hear. The Italians treated me better than my own countrymen.
I once worked as a carer for a elderly Italian women. I was in the kitchen making her a sandwich, and i heard her calling me, she kept saying Hay slave, as I approached her bedroom she seemed startled knowing what she had said, I told her in a polite voice. Why is it when black people talk about their experience of racism in a country people want to deny your experience or gaslight you. I've been to Italy, Venice to be exact and got stared out constantly to the point it was so uncomfortable. It was like what are you doing here. 3 days was more than enough.
By denying it, people exonerate themselves from the toughts of being racist and doing anything about it. It is comfortable and it maintains the white power in place. From a white Italian. Racism is so rooted in Italy and so as in any white country. This is just how it is. So, as a white person, you need to aknowledge that, admit it to yourself and adopt daily anti-racist thoughts and behaviours to improve. But for 99% of people is just more comfortable saying I am not racist or, racism does not exist at all, and do nothing about it.
I agree. Wow, 3 days. There are a lot of Africans in Italy. Maybe not where you were. I say this because if they see a lot of Africans maybe they would be use to seeing people who aren’t Italians.

It’s perfectly normal to have preferences. I’m Mexican and was well received in Italy but not so welcomed in Cuba. I’m not gonna cry and call Cubans racists just because we didn’t vibe. The connection humans make with others happens naturally and it’s NOT meant to be forced to feel included. Stick to the cultures you vibe with and you’ll be fine.
Probably because you look like a typical Italian person. Her, not so much. Please avoid telling a Black woman that not liking racism is her "crying" or complaining. That's insulting. You can't assume that your experience as a light skinned Mexican is the same as it is for this woman or anyone else.
I'm very, very brown. It was my first trip to Italy. I had to board a train, after leaving the airport. I was struggling with my heavy travel bag up a flight of stairs at the train station, and a random Italian guy took it and carried it all the way up. Then went his way. I missed my train stop that same night. An Italian couple who'd been in the train took me in their car all the way back, through the streets, to the address I was staying at. It was my first trip to Italy, and I met mostly kindness. There are r@cists everywhere. People always find something to h@te others for. Even if you all looked the same, some would hate others for something else. I don't focus on ridiculous people. They're truly not worth the time or energy.
❤❤❤❤ Wonderful comment! Celebrating kindness encourages more of the sort and shines attention on the right people, whether identified or not. It's so lovely reading of your experience here in this corner of UA-cam. The Shorts section sees a lot of hyperfast consumption of information, quicker than people can digest and process. Ideas and topics that evoke strong reactions are often, sadly, attached to sorrowful or divisive aspects of our human experience. Even more reason for us to remind others that a real experience is defined by these contrasting things and we are a lot better off learning how to coexist. Balance over uniformity. Like you said beautifully at the end, even if we all looked the same, there will be those who fixate on another aspect unique to this or that person. Better to let be, because there are better things to see.
You are exactly right. In Nigeria, we don't necessarily have racism, but we have tribalism, religious bigotry, and stupidly regional rivalries. There is even discrimination between people of the same tribe, sometimes. Looks aren't the only basis for discrimination.

There was none in the last ten years I’ve been visiting the mall. There was an African hairdresser in the town was well. There is a new generation of Italians now.
I got a job offer to work in Italy. When I asked about how was it with diversity- they glazed past it with a simple “yes”. Yet, they went into detail with other people’s questions. Yeaaaaah I didn’t take it
Diversity is a uniquely American and British form of racism. Most countries don't buy into it and as a black person, I 100% support them in keeping their citizens safe. Us black folks are dangerous and cause problems, no way to get around that fact even if you and I individually are good people

Not only black people get stared ,I have been to the middle east soon as you stand still a crowd will gather around you and just stare, I don't see that as being racist it's the last thing to enter my mind
I really think it depends what area you go. It’s like in Paris, people are rude if you don’t speak French, whereas in smaller towns people are happy with any effort you make to learn their language

They gave me shelter, education and hope a hope to dream big. They instilled kindness and passion to all humanity in my heart. For that, I am always grateful. Forza Italia! Go Azure!!
But that doesn't negate the facts she is speaking of either. I visited Italy in the early 2000's and I saw them treat African immigrants like trash and it was horrifying. I am glad you had a good experience but it doesn't absolve them of how they have treated people like her since. All I am saying is that it is possible that both experiences are true.
@@ari_an_yah as an African: migrants are treated as trash here too. No matter we are all "black". You are sort of right. When I was in Italy the men were kind and followed me everywhere nonstop. But the women....now they were awful...I remember going into a store in Rome to shop and was asked to leave for literally no reason. I mean nothing happened...there was no argument or fighting. Yeah but how many black people went to italy and all say that they've been victims of racism there. Even though it's not 'all' ok, it's still a lot obviously
There’s something genuinely wrong with this comment section. I’ve never seen many people lack basic comprehension and empathy. Videos like these are intended to help other black travelers to be careful in certain places because simply being black in some places can be dangerous. People doing mental gymnastics to deny racism and invalidate the experiences that black people go through (and have been going through for YEARS which is why we know what call out), is telling that y’all are not educated or well traveled yourselves. We’re not seeking to be liked by everyone, we’re seeing BASIC human decency and respect, which we should ALL get. And to point out places that have repeatedly had a problem meeting those standards is to give a realistic view of some of these places that are overhyped. If you’ve been to these places and haven’t had an issue or don’t mind that these issues exist, FINE! But that’s YOUR experience/decision, not everyone wants to be subjected to that bigotry 😒
The biggest threat to black people are other black people. Quit acting like racism only happens to black people when in reality it happens towards every race. Black people are racist as well just look at some of the hate crimes they've committed lately.
UA-cam comment sections have always been extremely racist and I honestly was not surprised by it. UA-cam comments is like if you took extreme Twitter and punt it ALL the way to other side of the spectrum. It’s sad.
I landed in the Milan Airport heading to Cairo for vacation. I was approached by airport police with biggest gun I’ve ever seen. He was Yelling and questioning where I was going. I yell back I’m from Miami heading to Cairo…I’m not interested in Italy. Once he heard my American accent he backed off. I’ll never go back. Italy - 0 stars.
Similar experience in Italy. I was actually leaving came in for a meeting and was heading back to my country. Had to fly from Rome to Zurich. When I arrived in Rome the people were cold but ok, on leaving was checking into the airport without my white colleagues. They wanted to go to a seaside town, I felt sick and wanted to go just rest in the lounge. Security at the airport started yelling at me, especially since I had an African passport. Assumed I didn’t have a visa (he didn’t look properly). I shrugged it off but definitely gave me a bad taste about Italy.

No lies told. Some people I attempt to speak to here act like I’m completely inconveniencing them or ignores me. In grocery stores some cashiers won’t say a word or look at me. They just scan my items and literally toss them to the side, throw my receipt after I’m finished, and start with the next customer before I’m even finished gathering my things. Just a few days ago I was coming from baggage claim and after watching like 40 people walk through, I was stopped and asked to put my bag through an X Ray. I maintain being polite and to avoid making it a bigger problem, but I’ve never been so uncomfortable.
Don’t worry honey I was stopped at baggage too while all the whites walked past, it’s upsetting I wouldn’t visit Italy again, it has nothing appealing that I’d really want to go back to so there’s no loss there for me either.

It is worse for black people, but it is directed at anyone who is foreign, or not full 100% Italian. My mother is from Bosnia and the Racism she got from greasy Italian men was horrible when she went a few years ago. She said Italy is one of the most Racist countries in Europe. For some strange reason, many 'Americans' think Italy is this wonderful place, with no issues or systems of class or caste. Most American's I have met are much nicer and friendlier to other races and ethnicities than Italians. Don't know why everyone thinks Italy is so great. England or France is nicer for a holiday.
It's not racism when you are the same race. That would be prejudice, dude. Racism is the belief one's "race" is superior. On a side note, tell your mom to visit the south instead. Naples can be intimidating, but the people are so warm-hearted. Don't let the looks deceive you, and look into the cultural norms before going. They can be loud, appear aggressive, and are very direct, but it doesn't always mean they are mad or dislike you. It's just how they communicate 😂
I am from Ethiopia and I tell you what. On my five-month stay in Rome, I have never once experienced racsim whats so ever. I can say all Italians I met and at my university were kind, helpful, and warm. They made me feel welcomed and loved. Even though I didn't speak their language, they were just so niceeeeeee to me. I disagree with the above commentator, yes everyone should be “tolerant and accepting” because it’s their race and not something they can change wtf ? No there is no excuse for discrimination based off of race jeez. Don’t try to romanticize italian or european BS just because you’re american and trying to be “fair” to other cultures. no place for that egalitarian BS here.
@@scottcassell8220 i hate when yall keep using this excuse because all that was said is either simply stating a fact with these experiences or (like this commenter said) feelings based on the received racism.
I am Italian and I can say that racism can have various layers. I've noticed that many, too many supermarket clerks, for example, use the informal address to black people while using the informal address with others. Is this a form of racism? Probably yes, as well as the amazement of seeing black people with large cars. Why this happens I don't know. But even Europeans who show no surprise at the success of people of color who are not basketball or boxing champions may be hiding other forms of racism.
I am from the Navajo Nation, Salt Clan . I have been around and traveled a lot. I thought the dislike I faced was because I'm brown but finally I understood the gentiles don't like us brown folk because we carry the SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD. We are a living breathing BEAUTIFUL reminder to the "others " that we cannot be broken, we always rise above and they just can't keep up. We are a living reminder of how indomitable we are despite what the others have done. -daughter of Judah
I agree with you but also because of disobedience. Deuteronomy 28, book of Jeremiah, Rejecting Messiah YAHUSHA. Racism is from satan. If anyone has this wickedness in their heart and thinks they are saved, think again. I'm not brown skin but I truly believe Messiah was. HALLELUYAH ❤. YAH created the human race. The white jesus people worship is fake. YAHUSHA HA MASHIACH FROM THE TRIBE OF JUDAH. Messiah was a Hebrew, not European. Wake up people. Everything you have been told is a lie. Read scripture for yourself.
Met lots of “brown people” that definitely have a spirit but it’s not of the living God, that’s for darn sure. Good and bad people come in every shade of skin tone. Usually, racial prejudice, no matter what skin colour it’s against, derives from negative experiences or perceptions, whether justified or unfounded. Only cure for racism is to expose people to more and more people of various races, till people get to see there’s good people worth knowing in every race.

There were few exceptions, but it was envy/insecurity/jealousy and not racism. I rarely paid for meals or drinks. Italians spoiled me ❤. Yes, im a black woman.

Do Italians have the concept of intellectual reaching? That's when a person goes out of their way to bring ideas together that are completely unrelated to make any number of points.

Weird me and my other friends who are PoC had np getting taxis. Have you ever considered that maybe you just suck at traveling?

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
It’s natural for people to spread out and migrate. Before Europeans were European, they were also African. Travel and migration is something that every species does. You’ll just have to learn to accept that.
I’m not going to generalize all of Africa but I do want to say I have lived there before. I went to Dakar. People were unkind to me because I’m a mixed black person and American on top of it. So, whenever people say “Don’t like racism? Go to Africa!” It irks me a bit haha
@@fluffysox6072We were always European, dummy. We were never african😅

My fiance and I were in Venice this past September and we wanted to get drinks at a roof top bar, and let me tell you, the service was blatantly horrendous for no reason. There were only a hand full of tables and they were not busy. It took 1 hour to get one round of drinks and the only thing I could think of was there had to be some type of racism at play. We watched our server to go to other tables numerous times and skip over us. It was extremely disappointing. We left sober and annoyed.
I know that Italian French Americans are racist pple indeed so sad
I can't imagine going anywhere I have to beg to spend my money and be treated like a sub- human.
Why would you let people treat you like that ? Come on ! After waiting 40 mns for a drink i'd pick up my stuff and leave. I know ppl who would have less patience than me
@@floregbadie2815 Typically we would. I’ve had rare experiences like that in the US as well and have straight up walked out of places but keep in mind it’s a little different while you’re on vacation. We weren’t in a rush, we’re enjoying the view, conversing about the day’s adventures etc next thing you know, it’s been 30 mins and our drinks haven’t landed and we then start fighting for the servers attention - also, Venice specifically is very lacking with late late night bars so we didn’t really have many options other that specific restaurant. After we got the first round and waited another 20 mins for the second round which we ordered the moment our first round landed we just walked up to the hostess stand, closed out and made a complaint. What else can you really do? 🤷🏽

Its funny how ppl always think America is so racist but soooo many other places in the world are much much more racist.
Murica had kkk until 60's. If today they are so ready to fight racism is because they were much more than others. Duh.
Hmmm.Nope!America is still number one!
No other European country having so much police crimes caused by race!
America just point finger on other Nations for human rights..bla bla bla!
We all know how things are going,so...😊About racism in America is so exposed, visible and notorious!
No.... People dont "think America is so racist" - We know America is racist Af!!
We live it in our real lives as blk ppl, not to mention, WS racism is posted all across social media were you can see and hear with your own eyes the level of racism that exist in America - We already know that WS is Global, But America still takes the crown and its so easily proven because racist yt ppl cant get out of there own way. Right? I thought it was just Italian Americans who didn’t like blacks. Shame. You see all the black celebs boating along the Amalfi Coast.

I loved Italy when I went. Felt like a princess out there 💞
I'm half Italian and i can tell you they judge everyone including their own family members. I'm so used to it.
Yup! I’m black and Italian and my mom is the most judgmental person on Earth and not to blacks to anyone and everyone. They are just straight forward people.

Some people just go looking for racism and they find it, it's called victim mentality
It's funny Italians have the audacity and nerve to judge anyone else after the free pass the entire nation got for their embarrassing performance in WW2. An inferior army of 2,000 troops defeated an Italian force of 18,000 troops on Italys own land! Italians were not very brave inWW2 and would often soil their pants in battle and would surrender without even firing a shot so they shouldn't be judging anyone else- period!
The Italians don't like blatant arrogance. And THAT, my dear girl, comes wrapped in ANY skin colour.

I'm a black American and Italy was amazing. People were very warm and friendly. Seems like either you have a great time over there or a miserable one.
Were you a tourist or living there permanently?
There's another explanation that deserves as much consideration as the other two.
Perceived racism, which is probably accountable for more accusations than the other two.
She has glued fake hair that resembles texture of the racists over her natural hair. She hates her own identity and yet she is surprised italians have a preference
Thanks for sharing Yasmin ❤
Or the person complaining acted totally out of place in a foreign country...
As a black person who was born and raised in North Italy until I just moved away not too long ago, I would just like to make people realise that not every Italian is the same. Racists are everywhere in the world and there's nothing we can do about it. I've spent my life with wonderful people alongside me that never once even had an ouce of racism in them and some not so great people that you can bump into every so often who discriminate against you simply because you don't look the same as them. As much as it sucks that not much can be done, the recent generations are much more open and accepting of different people. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that Italy is filled with normal, accepting and amazing people, it's just the minor population that lacks some braincells or have not been educated enough😊
Thank you ❤❤❤

I was in Rome and Positano on the Amalfi coast in 2018. I travel often and attempt to speak or understand the language. I’m middle aged , medium brown, have natural hair. Yes. Many of the folks crying racism are not deeply connected with Christ. Thanks to my Jesus, everywhere I go is great. Just have to pray and He works the rest. Also, many people have a spirit of rejection following them, so when they go places their not received.
