I love how nonchalantly he says "Well I wish you'd have said something. I was workin' on this one" GOLD 😅😅😅
Grandad walks down the stairs..so proud 😆
He just had a jammy is why, proud to of had one in a posh bog
Love that bit! 😂😂😂
😆 “Did you drop it, Del❓”
And when he says "Well i was working on this one" 😂
Grandad really brilliant in this scene coming down the stairs thinking everything is gone very well.
Missed the best line:
Grandad: Was it valuable?
Del: No, not really. But it was bleedin' priceless when it was up there though!!!
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂 Rolling about in fits,Watching the entire Episode when it first broadcast on BBC1 During Christmas 1982 ,Was only 9 when I watched this for the first time and left me in Stitches,David Jason ,Nicholas Lyndhurst and Leonard Pearce (1915-1984) As Grandad were brill and iconic in this long Running Series that First broadcast in 1981 to 2003 ,Great performances 😂😂😂😂
One of the best scenes of comedy ever made
From a doc, I learned that all the budget for the episode went on the purchase of the chandelier, so they only had one chance to get the shot right. The producer threatened Nicholas Lyndurst with the sack because he couldn't stop laughing. The producer said to Nicholas, "if we don't get this right we can't make any more episodes" . This must have worked as history was made.
Who told you that?
@@petemullen842 Nicholas Lyndurst recalled it on a documentary I saw on the 'Yesterday ' channel. Lyndurst may have been exaggerating for dramatic effect, but from memory, that was the gist of it.
@@petemullen842 Nicholas lyndhurst lifestyle 2001…. Put that into UA-cam at watch until 03:00 at it talks all about it at that point.
Meanwhile said producer Ray Butt had to shove something in his mouth, can’t remember what it was a hankie or something to stop him from laughing loudly and ruining the shot he had threatened Nicholas with 😂😂😂
There was an edit though as soon as the chandelier fell, they didn’t keep it as long one take. So they didn’t need that rule really.
Did you drop it Del? 😂😂
No matter how many times I see it I still burst out laughing
Grandad: Did you drop it, Del?
Rodney: How could we drop it?! We wasn’t even holding it!
LOL!
2:47 Del Boy "Rodney you plonker " Rodney "It wasn't me ! "
Brilliant absolutely legendary scene so funny 😂 "grandad well a wish you said something I was working on this one" 😂 😂 😂
Even though it was only a prop it was still worth a good few grand. Top credit to David and Nic for holding it together and not laughing.
That "brace yourself" was David out-of-character addressing both himself and Nicholas.
Don't be daft they aren't made up
They were told they must not laugh. It was an unrepeatable stunt and the episode would be ruined if they laughed. If the episode was ruined and unusable the BBC would not show the series as it would not be the entire number required. The director was biting his hand to ensure he didn't laugh and set someone off 😂
@@davidroberts5090 Yeah, I read about it. After threating to fire anyone who would have laughed, the director himself ran for his life after the chandelier crashed.
Except if I were the director, the cast, or the crew, and knew what was going to happen, I would expect to control myself. And if I were David Jason or Nicholas Lyndhurst in character, instead of laughing, I'd probably get mad. "GRANDAD!!! YOU WALLY DROPPED THE BLOODLY CHANDELIER!!!"
“Alright Del Boy” lol
Do you think they got their bonus a stick of rock,🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂
How has this video only got 515 likes? It's one of the funniest bits of television ever broadcast! 🤣
2:51 I salute Dave and Nick for not laughing their heads off. I would’ve lost it! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I would have lost my temper and fallen off the ladder. "Grandad!!! You wally dropped the bloody chandelier!!!"
@@broadstreet21 LMAO!
Yeah had they laughed, they would have been fired.
apparently as soon as the director called cut, everyone was laughing lol
@@breathless792 Yeah, I don't know why. I mean, unlike the audience, they knew what was going to happen, would have pictured it so many times. Jason and Lyndhurst, if they were properly in character, they would not find it funny at all.
Ore of the best scenes in the history of comedy
An all time classics scene 🏆
'' grandad, do you want a jimmy? ''
it will live on forever!!!😂and so it should!!!
I love the way Grandad strolls back down the stairs looking so pleased with himself.
"Alright, Del Boy?"
"Alright? What d'you mean, alright? Look at it!"
They've cut off Del's brilliant reaction. Grandad asks "Is it valuable?" Del replies: "No, not really... it was bleedin' priceless when it was hangin' up there though!" (Pointing to the ceiling)
No doubt about it, and absolute classic episode, they surely don't make them like that these days, more's the pity 😊😊😊😊 TJR Lanzarote Canary Islands.
People who upload this scene don't have a clue!!!! You always miss out the best bit... The bit where Grandad asks if it "was worth much Del boy".. and Del replies "NO GRANDAD. It bloody was when it was up there though!"
Thatchew lot, taken tha pishtashio outter me agaaaain? I've a right mind ta come up there and...... 🤣🤣🤣🤣💚
Awwww he’s a craftsman
2:47 Me: *Oh my God! (whilst LMAO)*
Lennard Pearce was a genius! RIP.
2:50 Whoops there goes the chandelier crashing to the floor
Better than Del falling through that bar scene me thinks.🤩
Too damn funny.
Why *cannot* today's modern British TV comedy/sitcoms be like this?
I remember the first time I watched this. I couldn't stop laughing 😂
One of best comedy scenes ever
This was the making of the whole series. The last episode of the second series, and made the Trotters into the household name that they became.
The writers of the series were told about this happening, and decided to use it in their comedy series. It is the most memorable thing to have happened to Del Boy, until he fell through the bar.
I saw the bar scene, but didn't exactly find it that memorable or funny. Only because if that happened to me, I'd just get back up like it were no big deal.
In-Universe: Del and Rodney are preparing to catch the chandelier when it comes down.
Out-Universe David and Nicholas are preparing for the other one to fall and not to laugh.
Please upload the clip when Slater returns and holds the party at the Naggs Head.
Superb, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Crease up everytime i watch this 😂😂😂😂😂Pmsl 😂😂😂😂
I almost die laughing
Classic scene 😂.
Brilliant
When this first aired in the UK, I laughed my head almost clean off when that happened, I was just a teenager and never even saw it coming
❤️ Grandad, such a great character
He actually is very dumb and boring,Albert is the absolute best
Okay, so the $64,000 Q:
When you saw this for the first time, did you know what was going to happen?
I didn’t lol.
I didn't. My thought was that the chandelier would be so heavy it would just rip through the sheet they were holding and fall to the floor that way!
@@paulwilliams8389 😁
@@paulwilliams8389it very likely would have. Which just makes it even funnier😂
Thanks
TV gold
ayyy una candelabra precariosa!
Have you ever had that sinking feeling.
Grandad "I'm starting to undo it"
Del and Rodney "NOOOO!!"
"Gordon Bennett, we ain't even up the ladders yet!"
2:47 😂😂😂😂😂😂
How were these clowns even planning to get it back up there? 😂
You are thinking to hard
What is this, the international year of the Wally brain or something? they were obviously going to get a right couple of plonkers like Trigger and Denzel to help 'em out
Dipstick!
Obviously by the power of prayer and double sided stickytape!
Even if Grandad was doing the right one Del and Rodney would never have been able to hold it with the weight of it.
Del: Oi, Grandad. Do you want a jemmy?
Grandad: No. Had one before we left, Del.
😆😆😆😆😆 Love Del and Rodney’s reactions. Especially the latter shaking his head.
What is a jemmy? I mean it's a crowbar in this case, but what was grandad thinking, some kind of candy bar or what? 🙂
@@solidsnake3828in rhyming slang its another would for peeing
😂
3:38 good job they’ve got their shoes on otherwise without them and the glass can cut through the skin of your foot badly
funny series
Yeh that prop cost the BBC about the same as the original chandelier. They only had one take to do this scene. ha ha
🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣
The title is wrong, it’s supposed to be Grandad smashes the Chandelier
I had to educate my friend who has never heard of only fool this is was go to episode
I don't believe a chandelier could fall into.a sheet like that
...... it is very valuable, Del...?
Still don't know if the chandelier was really an antique. If it was, why on earth did they not use a much cheaper one.? It breaks my heart. They knew it was going to be smashed.! 😬😅
In a documentary made about the Trotters, the people who organised this said that the Chandelier they dropped was made specifically for the programme. They also said that it would have been cheaper to drop a real chandelier, instead of the one that they had made specifically for this episode.
ill always wonder was the story of rodney having to keep a straight face true? the shot clearly shows the chandelier smashing without the boys in frame
Apparently Nicholas Lyndhurst was threatened to be fired from the show because he kept bursting out into laughter when the chandelier fell. Which obviously became frustrating when they had to do this stunt over & over again, which could not’ve been cheap. So in the take they used. Just imagine Lyndhurst holding back everything he can to make sure he doesn’t ruin the scene again & lose his role on the show. They couldn’t fire him obviously, but they still told him that in order to make him pull himself together.
I dont think he was laughing every time i think he was just giggling hard enough that they had to reshoot.
Me
How about ruining it by saying something like, o i don't know - smash - in the title?
Fact about this scene: The chandelier in this scene was worth $6,000, the show could only afford one and could only do this scene once. The actors were told if they laughed or caused a blooper, they would be fired on the spot
Don't make them like this anymore.
For such a classic scene you would have thought they would have edited better, the canned audience laugh a split second before the viewers know it is the wrong chandelier

I'm surprised you have many comedy clips left to show, seeing you're cancelling all the best ones!
tbh those two would not of been able to of held that when it fell anyway, they are extremely heavy. -used to work in moving glass and chandeliers
Yeh and using a rug / cloth doesn’t seem like the best thing to catch it 😂
Al nick the star Betelgeuse but I'm only joking Del Trotter and Rodney Trotter your lordship and dismantle the other dozen antique chandelier 🤣👍
