This is an extremely stressful situation and can ruin your day. The worst experience I had of this kind was in Marrakech. One street hawker approached me and my friend and offered to take us on a "tour" of the city at a "very competitive price". We declined the offer in a polite and respectful manner but he continued to follow us for at least half an hour, pushing in to our faces and becoming increasingly aggressive. So we decided to visit a roof-top cafe for an hour to try to shake him off. When we got back on to the street, yes, of course, he was waiting for us. After another half an hour of this he finally gave up when we approached a group of young men in a market and they shooed him off.
@@LeviathanGodofthelabyrinth Thanks for the tips; I appreciate it. I haven't been to Tunisia. Egypt and Morocco, yes. I think it's a matter of experience. That’s like one of the most well known scammer nations lol. I feel like 3 things are most well known about Egypt: it’s hot, pyramids, and lots of scammers lol
Egypt is actually one of, if not the worst country for this type of scam. Everything from the markets, to the pyramids, to police. The everyday people are nice, but tourists are treated poorly and harassed by people looking to make a profit. Literally every single person I know who has travelled to Egypt said they were harassed. None of them ever went back to visit.
- Muhammad Ali, the boxer?! - No! Muhammad Ali mosque. (the founder of modern Egypt) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was priceless, bro. Raw, kind, polite, and honest. Hug from Portugal
I was in Egypt. An Egyptian guest house manager summed it up well. He said, "A guy in the street will point to the sky and then tell you to give him baksheesh. They will say that for everything." It is ridiculous. They want money for doing the most unsolicited worthless services and won't leave you alone. They walk with you or chase you with their horse carriage no matter how much you tell them no or ignore them (I tried both strategies). If you go left they tell you to go right to follow them somewhere. If you go start to go right, they tell you to go left and to follow them. Then they say they are friendly and you are not but really they are just scammers.
years ago I was sitting on a toilet in the cairo Airport and someone had taken the toilet paper... a hand came out from under the stall offering me toilet paper and another empty hand awaiting payment!
Trust me try to go high end places and luxury like me when I travel you will never see this kind of people but as I said earlier the holiday packages you get takes you to this areas and people 😢
I just returned from Egypt and I must say - there are A LOT of people like this guy - very annoying, they always approach you first, scammers and liars, be very careful, it's best to just ignore them and not talk to them at all
Egypt would have been better if the scamming and treating tourist poorly was stopped. I felt so unsafe and frustrated the entire time I was there. Can easily say this is the worst trip I've been on with respect to how I felt the entire time. The country has beautiful sites to see but what the locals fail to realize is when they treat tourists like a walking piggy bank and treat you poorly, you'd never want to go there again. I'm glad I went but I didn't enjoy this trip as much as I could have.
This happened to me in every part of Egypt I visited. Many taxi drivers definitely work with them, though the better hotels will warn you about them as well as unfair prices.
exactly, my hotel even had it's own taxi company (of course free of charge for anybody accomodated at their hotel) because they know tourists have big problems with the local taxis. They told us we can take any taxi we like but they don't guarantee the experience and who knows what price they're gonna ask for. So when we went out to the city we took out hotel taxi but when we wanted to get back, there were no taxis from our hotels aroud at that moment so we took a local taxi to get back. We asked how much will the ride cost, he told us the price. When we arrived he doubled the price.

If you would go to a country I recommend knowing the language or bringing a friend who's decent at the language or not following anyone and bringing your stuff from home.
Just don't follow strangers in countries that you aren't familiar with. I find it hard to believe people can be so naive that will land in a country that is shambles and find it a good idea to follow a sketchy middle aged man that wants to "show them around". There's warnings before you go to those countries for a good reason.
Surely part of the fun is to buy something in their markets, I went to India recently and it's similar to this, everyone begs you to buy stuff for really high prices... I don't know if it's just me but I don't like it when someone shoves items in my face I prefer to find them myself
As a Muslim and as an Arab. I'd like to make it clear to everyone that what this man has done It is an act of haram and it is not permissible even the money that he took wrongly is forbidden money in Islam And he should be punished for that. Unfortunately, people like them, with their bad deeds, tarnish our reputation. May you know that they do not represent Islam or the state
Fantastic video! I really wanted to enjoy Egypt but scammers and shop owners trying to pull me (literally) into shops and stalls put me off completely. In Cairo in particular, it was endless.
"Where are you from? Ah yes, my (RANDOM RELATIVE) also lives in (SAID COUNTRY)." I've heard the same line many places. Establishes instant connection to a stranger.
@P S And the worst thing: It pisses people off (sorry for bad language). You know, I lived in Germany for a long time, and I know Germans don't like to be pressured in buying things (and probably many other Europeans and other Westernes neither). I found that very annoying for people in different countries. Once I was in Tunisia and shop sellers were so annoying towards Tourists. I talked a shop owner and told him that may be he would sell much more if he left the tourists in peace visiting his shop. He never had considered that. But unfortunately this "pressing sale" comes also the Western countries. When you want to buy a mobile, people want to pressure to change your phone provider, when you want to buy a fridge, sellers want you to change your energy provider... Annoying, annoying, annoying.
Oh my god, I felt so anxious just watching this video. I am sorry that that happened to you. if it was me I would have run away since the beginning, some people just don't understand how awkward it is to be followed around, you are lucky he didn't try stealing your camera or something!!!!
I used live in Cairo in the 90s, just down the road from the Egyptian Museum, so there were plenty of touts. Every day I’d walk past a papyrus shop and every day he’d try and drag me inside. This carried on for months. I tried to tell him, in Arabic, that I wasn’t a tourist, I live here on this street. He would always respond, in English, no come in, just look, just look. It’s really depressing, especially when you live in a city, speak the language, respect the culture, to always be treated like a cash cow. So one day, after the standard exchange, I went into the shop and made him show me every item there, saying before each, in Arabic, I won’t buy it. Then, after an hour, I left. He never asked me again. You have to break through this wall of touts to meet real Egyptians who are genuine and friendly. Go to places tourists don’t go. Get out of Central Cairo or the Pyramids. Avoid Sharm and Hurghada like the plague. Remember, the touts pay through the nose for the right to fleece khawagas, so they are sharks, but they are few in number and never waste their time in places that foreign tourists don’t visit.

You should ve punched him in the face besides there is no police there to arrest you 😅
@@LeviathanGodofthelabyrinth Thanks for the tips; I appreciate it. I haven't been to Tunisia. Egypt and Morocco, yes. I think it's a matter of experience.
