  • Here is a helpful pen and ink book, if you're looking for non-video resources for learning different mediums for drawing. Claudia Nice breaks pen and ink techniques down into manageable steps, helping you to develop a method of mark making so that you can communicate different textures and materials. Books like this are also great resources for learning when you're traveling and don't have an internet connection, as well as having paper images you can lay out in front of you while you're working. I like to have some on hand to loan to students. With the holidays around the corner, you might put this on your wish list.
You can download this on Kindle, if you want it on the go, from Amazon for $14.99 at this link:

When I searched for the title in Google, it came up with a used version of it available for under $2.50 on Barnes & Noble, so a little digging online should turn up an inexpensive resource for you.

What I really like about it are the projects, which really help to consolidate the different strokes.

LZM Studio hi there. I figured that from Mr jones' comments. Actually I am not sure if it is exactly the same book, as there were no projects...No even the step by step...Just pictures and text.
Anyways, I have a question. My goal is not so much to draw in pen and ink. My goal is to turn a scenery or still object(s) in a few simple lines as outline and add a little bit of water color maybe in monotone say just blue. (Like below from my friend).
I want to reduce a complex scenery or object in simplified outlines. Can you recommend a book for me?

Unfortunately I don't know of a book that teaches the style you are describing. You might look at www.urbansketchers.org, as they show pen and wash styles of many different artists from all over the world. You might find an artist you like on that site and look for their website for more information/lessons/teaching? Let me know if you find one you like! Good luck!

LZM Studio I realize this is not Facebook and I can't post a picture. I was trying to find a link after I posted to Facebook. Used to be able to save link of pictures. Seems like this option no longer available.
Anyways. Lovely website. Will surely look at it more thoroughly.
I am 52 and learning to draw as a new hobby. A brand new beginner. Haven't got a chance to explore my artistic talents when I was younger.

I justi just learned about her a couple days ago when someone talked up one of her books on a watercolor Facebook page. Have already ordered and received 2 books which lead me on a search of a bunch more through used book outlets. So wish I had heard of her while she was still alive and teaching!

I have this book too...really good resource. Also have a Half Price Books here...such a good place. I always hit the clearance shelves. You can find great books for $1 - $3. I often sell my books and media there too.

Now of course I realize you're not Claudia Nice! Oh dear, sorry, but still, thanks for the recommendation, as it was that which sent me out to buy it on Amazon.
