    I know it’s all a lot of work but I find the process relaxing

    I put my pens in a jar of windex and taped the jar on to the Vibrating dehumidifier and 6 of the 8 pens now work

    I love using a Rapidograph pen. One reason to use permanent ink is so watercolor washes you might apply later don't disturb the ink. Plus, you can choose inks that won't fade. Dye-based inks often fade. Sketching in a sketchbook, the fading potential is less, but still a possibility.

      I saw this once. A friend had painted a parrot with all the vivid reds and greens and such using watercolors. But there was some incredible detail in the feathers and feet. So I asked how he achieved this using watercolors and he explained that he drew the detail with technical pens first and went over it with the color washes. I had no idea this could be done lol

      @@donmiller2908 and now you can use all kinds of permanent pens without messing with the pen nibs. I liked the fine nibs but the wires kept getting bent, which means the ink doesn't flow properly.

    I recently got a set of Rapidograph and I LOVE them!!! It came with Ultradraw ink which I do NOT like with Watercolor so I got the type she recommends and it works beautifully. I also have an Isograph which I love. My fountain pens and fountain pen inks are great, but just not suitable for what I like to do with Watercolor. Variety is awesome!

      I thought Ultradraw inks are waterproof. Maybe I miss the type she recommends? Would you mind telling me which one she recommends? Thank you!

      @@jsprite123 Ultradraw is waterproof but NOT scrub proof. It smudged on one line and wash and, believe me, that did not make me happy! lol I've read several of her books and, in those books, she recommends 3080 Universal Black India ink. That ink doesn't smudge for me and I've been pleased with the performance of it. Just remember to clean your pens periodically as stated in the video. You also really want to check out Claudia's books. They are on Amazon and her very sweet hubby is still shipping out orders from her website, which is where I got a copy of my favorite, which is Painting with Watercolor, Pen, and Ink. My second fave is Down by the Sea with Brush & Pen and I got that one from her website also. If you cannot get them for some reason, most libraries carry at least a few of her books.

    I have a VEB CLEO SKRIBENT 1964 Technical Pen set, I bought a used set. The pen has a plunger type ink reservoir . Like a needle syringe . The plunger assembly is yuck 🤢 and it does not disassemble the ink is stuck behind the plunger and I don't know what to clean it with. I have used soap and very warm water and soaked overnight. It helped but not fully, the plunger is plastic so I don't want to use crazy chemicals . What would you use?

    • @leaf427
      @leaf427 4 роки тому

      denaturated alcohol or less agresive Window cleaner. Shake it, rinse it, leave overnight... reapeate process.
      Some people advice to fill it with water and microvawe it!

      If I may suggest what I did was heat a cup of water in a 1000 watt microwave for 2 minutes then dropped it into the cup. Then I let it sit 3 minutes in the hot water when I took it out I tried to gently unscrew the things with pliers making sure to apply force but not too much where I might break something. It worked for me however cleaning out the dried gunk is a whole other challenge. Q tips help a lot and a super thin needle perhaps a guitar string of the same or slightly larger diameter. You could try some rapido eeze from Amazon that's supposed to work but I've never tried it so I don't know how well it works. Hopefully this helps some if nothing else maybe try to salvage what parts you can then buy some new or used nibs off ebay. I'm sorry I couldn't give a more definitive answer. Just when dealing with such a situation start slowly with least risk like hot water moving slowly in strength to solvents and something should do the trick without damaging anything. Please absolutely do not use clorox. I was told use clorox and well clorox can eat right through all sorts of plastics and other materials.

    Why waste all that effort cleaning the carbon particles and shellac out of the Rapidograph when you could just use non-pigment based inks like water soluble dye fountain pen inks? Then you can use any color available for fountain pens, and a simple water flush removes any ink color, and there are no pigment particles or goo from dried shellac

      Because dye based ink isn’t opaque. These pens are the best to make hand drawn silkscreen Mylar negatives.
