In this ArtistsNetwork.TV video workshop, Claudia shows you how to create a range of textural drawing techniques such as contour lines in a smooth onion, cross-hatching on rocks, atmospheric effects with parallel lines and more. She then brings all the techniques together, taking you step by step through the painting of a dramatic seascape.
In this preview, Claudia demonstrates how parallel lines can push an object into the distance and flatten it out as she draws this scene with pen & ink.

Claudia Nice is a Master. Her books are awesome. She draws and paints every little detail in her books. They are a work of art on themselves.

Claudia is my favorite instructor/teacher. I'm a beginner and her instructions make learning easy. I also love her books. I just bought "Creating Textured Landscapes with Pen, Ink and Watercolor"... absolutely love it. This book is clear and concise. I'm extremely busy, so the illustrations make learning easy and are great as reference material for projects.

Now I know why inkers make those broken lines. This was very helpful.

I see everybody using a felt tipped ink pen for the detail work. What do you think of a Rapidograph and colored inks? Have you seen anybody do multicolor ink and wash art? HELP

Sorry, but your longer lines would have been just as parallel if you continued them, because you didn't actually move your hand to create the next lines in the same arc of movement as the initial lines. In fact, you could have created parallel lines the entire length of the page, by just holding your hand still, and sliding your entire forearm down the length of the page. You would've gotten the same effect and not had to break the line up.

Yeah, they need to make money. The most tantalizing part is not revealed. Only the easy methods, which people can figure out on there own are.
