Hiya Glenda, no your not too old for Art, my Mam is 72 and she makes beautiful cards all by hand, she said to me once the age I am and only doing something like this now and I said ya never too old !!! And she really enjoys it xx
You can start at any age... if you have the motivation my advice is to start the soonest you can. I only started drawing like a month ago and it has been a really good experience for me... it keeps me calm and focused.
Well you can’t necessarily make that decision, you must carry on drawing and observe the improvements overtime, and if there is a conspicuous distinction in progress, than I suggest you carry on, however if there is barely to non differences, I suggest you put the pen down and practise another hobby, that’s my sentiment
Thank you I just spent a highly enjoyable couple of hours doodling your drawing, using your techniques. I appreciate the simple clarity of your narration. Keep up the great work!
Very informative video. Thank you. Your explanations are clear and easy to follow as well as your demonstrations. I recently took up drawing (or rediscovered drawing) as a way of dealing with my addiction recovery. I have been practicing in just a generic lined notebook and was getting frustrated. I am definitely going to get myself a sketchbook and see if the paper's texture helps me.
It’s the first time I comment, I just wanted to say you have become such a big part of my day during a stressful time period. Thank you for what you do ❤️ ✨ you’re absolutely amazing
My goodness I love you for sharing this video and your expertise. I’ve just started to draw and couldn’t for the life of me get shading right. Thank you so much. The speed in which you describe everything is spot on. I’ve subbed to keep me up to date and help you grow, you deserve it. Thank you 🙏 ❤️❤️
watching this video because I want to sketch with my fountain pen and I have a fountain pen notebook to use. thank you for explaining this. i want to work on my lines and work on some abstracts but this will help bring me more into my shadows and shading. thank you :)
Thank you so much for this video, I happen to be enjoying working with pen and ink although it's not very forgiving, mistakes wise, I messed up twice with a ink drawing I'm doing. I'm on a course with pen and ink. I love that you have done flowers in this video, I do want to draw flowers all of nature and landscapes etc. Your work looks amazing 👏
So glad i found you! I just drew a proper leaf! Happy New year & I'm a complete Newbee to painting . Art Journalled for years. Bought the " Cheap paints ! I really am so excited . 🤗 Thank you so much . Clair fm UK Love & Light 🌍❤💎🥀🌻
This looks so simple but really requires thought and skill. Thanks for the explanation. I now know why my ‘lines’ in the flower petals don’t really look good. (I wasn’t following the shape of petal/leaf)
I really enjoyed this tutorial today and it has come at perfect timing because I am just getting back into drawing after not doing it for a few (15 years).
🌸🌿💕 Oh my goodness Shayda! 💡This all makes sense now.💡 Adding these details correctly shows all the angles of the flower and it adds so much dimension. Without doing the shading correctly can make it still look flat and I just didn’t know why. The way you explain things is just awesome. I’ll be so much better at shading since you broke it down and explained the curves and lines and how to actually do them correctly. I hope this makes sense what I’m trying to say. You are a genius!!! I learn so much from you. This is huge for me. Yours always looks so pretty with just a pen. Mine, well not so good!!! Thank you for breaking this down so everybody can understand it. You are the best! Love & Hugs!
Love your channel. I am amazed at some of the flower illustrations I have been able to achieve from following your tutorials. I find doodling them really restful and peaceful and find myself wanting to do some when I have had a hectic day. Would love to see how you would approach eucalyptus and gumnuts ( I am in Australia). I have tried a few ways and not very happy with my results.
Thanks so much 😊 They are both a couple years old but I have a few videos with eucalyptus: ua-cam.com/video/JyZ5YsXKhoQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/KkolyTCiZ1Q/v-deo.html
I love your channel. Very helpful and fun. I know nothing but have the itch to try at my old age haha. Do you have better control holding your pen like you do? You are very gifted. Great job. GOD bless you my dear❤️👍
I really liked this tutorial. Would you go into shadowing? It seems that the shadow (for a box) isn't exactly from where the light source is. Can a fan of light be drawn, then where it hits the object it's dark on the other side? I don't find that this is true when I refer to art books. Like you show the flat part of the leaf as being lighter but the leaf on the light source side still is dark at the tip even though it's the closest to the light source.
Are you a self taught artist, Shayda? Or did you go to school? Either way, your def a natural. Im asking because I have such a hard time with shading and anything more than contour drawing. Just wondering if it's something that comes with practice and natural talent or if it's something that needs to be taught... 🙈
I dont understand how you can make "softer" lines with a pen and then go over them if you want them darker...its pen you cant change how dark the ink comes out like you can with pressure on pencil. right? or am i just confused?
I like when you say- simple is tricky. Even I draw flowers, and it is way easier to make a germanium or rose look pretty than make a tulip look pretty. Of all flowers that I have drawn, my tulip is the worst. Truly, simple is tricky !
I'm 70 and really want to draw. I would be delighted to be able to draw flowers like you. Am I too old ?
Don't be silly! You're in your prime!

Never too old I’ve just started at 61 and have joined a a club online via an app with ages older than yours. ❤️ Go for it

Hi Shayda ! really appreciate this video (from France) ! Have you think about creating coloring book ? Have you do so already ? ☺️
Maybe one day!

Guys, just go to Amanda Rach Lee, she does BTS journals, also I doubt Shayda even follows them, doesn’t seem to be part of the army.

When you shade do you keep the pressure of the pen to the paper the same or do you sometimes be more gentle for lighter areas?
I change the pressure and the nib size for lighter areas :)
