SUMMER SNAKEHEAD TECHNIQUES: TARGETING THE TIDES

  • Lots of things contribute to a good bite. Tide is one of them. In most fisheries, it's arguably the single, biggest factor because (to a large degree) it controls where the fish have the ability to go. If it's high tide and they're too deep in the weeds to target, where else can you look? If it's low tide, how do you find reachable spots with sufficient depth to hold fish?
Targeting vegetation areas during periods of tidal transition is always a good bet.

    That follow scene was sick!!

I was so freaking frustrated before that moment happened, man. I just kept seeing fish EVERYWHERE. I couldn't get them to react. When that one gave me the initial "get out of here" pop, I thought I might be onto something. The fact that he followed me all the way out into the open (and that I got it on camera) made it worth it to persevere.
      Such cool fish!

Really appreciate the insight to the forage and how it relates to the bite. Great video as always man! The ending clip is hilarious 😂

Forage... tide... vegetation... temperature... wind... what did I have for breakfast... are the turtles feeling amorous? All things we must consider.

Great to see you catching on that custom boat! Life is good!

Thanks man! It sure is! The boat works! I figured out the issues with the motor. She runs reliably, but there are still some issues to resolve. The build, itself, is proving to be exactly what I hoped it would be. As a platform for a single person, it's FANTASTIC. I'm super pleased. Having a second person on board is comfortable enough, but there have been some lessons learned.
She's been tested. We've had 700lbs worth of human being on that boat in some pretty decent chop. We've had a little water come over the bow. She did great, but I have to admit I was concerned. This is not a "big water" boat. I only have a few inches of freeboard. Taking it out on a bigger river (even if only for the purposes of getting from the ramp to the fishing grounds) requires planning.
In glassy conditions I've hit speeds close to 25mph, alone. With another person in the boat, the best I can do is around 18... which is okay, because I'm not sure I'd want to go any faster than that.
My next upgrade is going to involve a push pole. Grass is coming in. My trolling motor is going to be useless in many of the spots I want to get to. The good news is: She drafts in ~8" of water.
I thought this thing would cure my desire to buy a legitimate flats boat. I was wrong. Now I want one even more than ever... but I'm still happy with what I built.

@@CareAgainFishing I know exactly what you mean, this boat build helps you zone in on what you really want in a boat, to do the specific types of fishing you do. It's good that you built that boat, plenty of boats out there, new & used, I say buy one when you can, there's never going to be a perfect time, but there will be a time when you can swing it.

Im in the beginning process of a build almost exactly like your boat and was wanting to build it pretty much like you did. I was just going to see what your all in total cost was if your fine with talking about that?

No problem! I have a detailed spreadsheet. I'm going to say it was somewhere in the ballpark of $5,500.
Remember though, the boat, motor and trailer were all free.

good video. i see that you were catching fish under sunny conditions. i usually do better when it is cloudy or early morning ,late afternoon,

      Thanks! I appreciate you watching!
Cloudy conditions are ALWAYS preferred, but you gotta do the best you can with what you have. In sunny conditions I look for things that create their own shade. Almost never easy, but if you keep grinding you can make it work.

I agree with you. You have to fish when you can no matter the conditions. Also I was looking at Tactical fishing. All their frog lures are sold out. I have some Snakehead Outlawz lures that i use.

@peterkonrad5655 Well, I can tell you this: I'm on the Tactical Fishing promotional team. It's not a paying gig. (I get a discount, but I still buy my own stuff.) The frogs sell out for a reason. One of the things that makes us different is that we design our lures, in house. Other vendors order in bulk off of websites and then sell at significant markup... and there's NOTHING wrong with that! Business is business. Lots of folks are happy to buy what's available, and those lures catch. Ours just catch a little better. Our hooks are more refined. We're a little more durable. Each frog has a job, and the soft plastics are unique. Not sure if you're on Instagram or Facebook, but if you send me a message on those platforms I'll make sure you're in the know when the next shipment comes in. You'll see the difference in what we bring to the table.

By releasing those snakeheads back into the water you are violating Delaware law.

Uh... no. I'm not. Have a good day.

    • @CareAgainFishing

Allow me to qualify my response: Delaware reg says you "should" kill the fish. It does not say that you "will," or "shall," or "must" kill the fish. In Delaware it is 100% lawful to immediately release a snakehead to the waters from which it was caught. What you have stated is a common misconception. I don't blame you for believing that killing is mandatory, given the way they chose to write the regs and literature.
I don't kill fish unless I plan to eat them.

    • @TheFederalFile
      @TheFederalFile 4 місяці тому

@@CareAgainFishing Snakeheads are invasive. It is illegal under Delaware law to possess a live snakehead. By pulling a snakehead out of the water you are "in possession of it", since you say you have no intent to kill the fish that come into your possession, your action is thus clearly unlawful.
