DIY - Convert a Topwater Frog to a Floating Buzzbait
Why don't we use more floating buzz baits? Lots of reasons. Some don't float particularly well... Some have hard bodies and feature trailing hooks that don't find the fish's mouth... Some have bottom-hanging treble hooks that dig into everything the lure touches. Hookup ratios can present a challenge, and many don't run in a truly weedless way.
Converting a medium/large topwater frog to a buzzbait solves almost all of those issues. This mod allows you to experiment with pretty much any frog you want without changing/damaging the frog, itself. By investing just a few dollars in tools an materials, you can completely change the presentation of your favorite topwater frogs, make a ton of noise, and still know you have the ability to pause in your retrieve without snagging every piece of grass in the area.

SUMMER SNAKEHEAD TECHNIQUES: TARGETING THE TIDES
Переглядів 3484 місяці тому
Lots of things contribute to a good bite. Tide is one of them. In most fisheries, it's arguably the single, biggest factor because (to a large degree) it controls where the fish have the ability to go. If it's high tide and they're too deep in the weeds to target, where else can you look? If it's low tide, how do you find reachable spots with sufficient depth to hold fish? Targeting vegetation ...

      @wrestlemaniac202 It took way longer than it should have to get the title for the boat. The first time through, I tried to mail the package in. Somehow, it got "lost." Luckily, I kept copies of all my paperwork and was able to submit my package a second time (in person) at the Bel Air DMV. After my second attempt, I had a title mailed to me within a couple of weeks. Never bothered to register the trailer. I plan to replace it. Risky to run it without a plate for a season, but I rolled the dice.

      @@jakesmith6337 Thank you! I'm not sure whether anyone makes a similar power pack as a commercial item. If they did, it would probably be pretty expensive. Having two batteries has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. It's well worth the effort and money to have redundancy.

    Nice fit out I’m just about to do a very similar setup with a brand called Tactix, couldn’t justify the Pelican box $$$ they are the best in the business though. We pay big $$$ for USA brands sadly. My concern was heat. I’m in Australia and our summer temps hover in the early 30’s (95f). But I’m not spending long periods pulling max current. The BMS will do its job as it was intended if it gets to its temp limit. Subscribed to you as well 🤟🏻 Cheers, Matt

    • @CareAgainFishing
      @CareAgainFishing Місяць тому

      I haven't had any significant issues related to heat. The one cautionary note that I would offer to anyone looking to do this build is to ensure your physical connections are solid. A loose connector becomes a quick source for intense amounts of heat. The only heat-related issues I've ever had have been due to loose connections and over-use. I've been using this battery pack for years, now. I am convinced that it will outlast my boat. Thanks for the sub!

I would like to buy the Shomano Curado 150 mgl but it is just too expensive compared to some reels like these from Piscifun. I can buy 3 to 5 of these for the same price...

    I thought it was illegal to release a snakehead back into the water?

    • @CareAgainFishing
      @CareAgainFishing Місяць тому

      The rules (I'm careful to use the word "rules" rather than "laws," here) on catch and release depend on the State in which the fish is caught. For example: Maryland's position on this matter is super clear. They recently published a quick reference document that tells us we absolutely CAN release snakehead back into the waters from which they are caught. (dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/Documents/SHQ_A-fishing.pdf) Maryland's position on this matter has evolved. Fisheries managers have figured out that these fish are really nowhere near the threat they were initially believed to be. We're at the point where the fish is starting to be recognized as a resource. Snakehead fishing is increasing in popularity, year after year. The fish is generating enormous amounts of revenue. They've even gone so far as to ask us to start referring to the fish as "Chesapeake Channa." NJ, on the other hand, just changed their regulations so that anglers "must" dispatch any snakeheads caught in NJ waters. (Though they don't really explain what the potential consequences for catch and release.) In all cases, transporting a live snakehead continues to be federal offense. Doesn't matter what State you're in, if you get caught with a live snakehead in your possession, you face pretty serious consequences. I do most of my fishing in Maryland and Delaware. Catch and release of snakeheads is allowed in both States. I hope this answers your question.

      They ARE invasive, and should never be introduced to new water, but recent studies are indicating an achievement of parity. The hype about their harm was way overblown. They're prolific breeders. Those breeding cycles intoduce a lot of new forage for other fish to eat. It's 100% okay to return them to the waters from which they are caught. Transporting them live is illegal. I don't kill things I don't intend to eat.

In Delaware it is 100% lawful to immediately release a snakehead to the waters from which it was caught. What you have stated is a common misconception. I don't blame you for believing that killing is mandatory, given the way they chose to write the regs and literature. I don't kill fish unless I plan to eat them.

      Thanks man! It sure is! The boat works! I figured out the issues with the motor. She runs reliably, but there are still some issues to resolve. The build, itself, is proving to be exactly what I hoped it would be. As a platform for a single person, it's FANTASTIC. I'm super pleased. Having a second person on board is comfortable enough, but there have been some lessons learned. She's been tested. We've had 700lbs worth of human being on that boat in some pretty decent chop. We've had a little water come over the bow. She did great, but I have to admit I was concerned. This is not a "big water" boat. I only have a few inches of freeboard. Taking it out on a bigger river (even if only for the purposes of getting from the ramp to the fishing grounds) requires planning. In glassy conditions I've hit speeds close to 25mph, alone. With another person in the boat, the best I can do is around 18... which is okay, because I'm not sure I'd want to go any faster than that. My next upgrade is going to involve a push pole. Grass is coming in. My trolling motor is going to be useless in many of the spots I want to get to. The good news is: She drafts in ~8" of water. I thought this thing would cure my desire to buy a legitimate flats boat. I was wrong. Now I want one even more than ever... but I'm still happy with what I built.

    good video. i see that you were catching fish under sunny conditions. i usually do better when it is cloudy or early morning ,late afternoon,

      Thanks! I appreciate you watching! Cloudy conditions are ALWAYS preferred, but you gotta do the best you can with what you have. In sunny conditions I look for things that create their own shade. Almost never easy, but if you keep grinding you can make it work.

      I agree with you. You have to fish when you can no matter the conditions. Also I was looking at Tactical fishing. All their frog lures are sold out. I have some Snakehead Outlawz lures that i use.

      @peterkonrad5655 Well, I can tell you this: I'm on the Tactical Fishing promotional team. It's not a paying gig. (I get a discount, but I still buy my own stuff.) The frogs sell out for a reason. One of the things that makes us different is that we design our lures, in house. Other vendors order in bulk off of websites and then sell at significant markup... and there's NOTHING wrong with that! Business is business. Lots of folks are happy to buy what's available, and those lures catch. Ours just catch a little better. Our hooks are more refined. We're a little more durable. Each frog has a job, and the soft plastics are unique. Not sure if you're on Instagram or Facebook, but if you send me a message on those platforms I'll make sure you're in the know when the next shipment comes in. You'll see the difference in what we bring to the table.

    First time ever deepsea fishing was very slow, not even one snapper all day between 4 of us. On the way back in the boat my brother gave up . Then 2 flying fish (idr what they're called) showed up. One hit my brother in the face and other fish replaced my other brothers beer in his hand in less than a second. Was funny as hell and so out of the blue.

      @@workforit2270 Thanks! I did my best. One thing I would recommend that isn't in the video: Don't measure the materials by weight. Measure by liquid volume (as the Fasco social media folks pointed out in another comment). The product is fantastic. It does everything I hoped it would do.
