- I've fished around a ton of creeks in Virginia and I found my favorite one. I've caught multiple 10+ pounders in the past month of being here both at this place. Hope y'all enjoy! #snakehead
I’ve only fished for snakehead once, but that’s the day that changed fishing for me forever!! They are so aggressive!!! If you throw a frog into that fry ball and pause it, give a few small twitches that will trigger a bite too. Awesome video man love it!!

@@RJOnTheFly yes sir, I’m originally from Maryland, I’ve been in Colorado for a 20 something years. My pops still lives in MD so I go back once in a while. Checkout my snake video, probably some of my best work. I have the Key Bridge in it, was the summer before it fell.

Yeah that creek is sweet... And if the fish are not biting you can find some amazing fossils in the cliffs- sea shells, sharks teeth, etc.... I wonder how many Bass boats come all the way up there? My only thing about that spot is they should have dug a channel all the way to the parking lot and put a ramp in right there- It is a pain to wheel my kayak all the way out to the end of that dock... Great video, you will see me out on that spot in 2 months with my fly rod!
I wish I would’ve been fly fishing exclusively back then man. A snake on the fly would’ve been sick! And brother I feel you on the long walk out there. Forgot my yak wheels one time and had to carry all my stuff. AWFUL.

I loved it over there but yeah the walk is the biggest down fall. Forgot my yak wheels one time and had to haul it down that. Never made that mistake again.

Dude they’re a freaking blast. I’m heading back to Florida in a month and I’ll miss catching them but I miss my home waters a good bit and I’m stoked to go back.

Thanks my dude! To be honest with you I’ve never caught a bullseye down here in Florida. I need to make a trip more south. When I was fishing for these up in VA I threw softer hollow body frogs and paddle tails with under spins. I could typically see where they were and most of the time they would eat if I could get it close enough.

count to 3 before you set the hook on a frog (or any topwater) bite.. you're suffering from premature hookset disorder - it effect many anglers, no worries. lol

There’s a TON of them in there for sure. I only spent a few months up there but caught loads of them and they’re a blast.

Wow, I went out on a boardwalk today at a regional park in PWC. There are some there and they are getting bigger. One person told me they heard of a restaurant that cooks them and other invasive fish. Do you/would you eat them?
I know some people do, I haven't. I'm typically just C&R but I've heard they're delicious.

Hey man, I’d get there right at 8 when they open the gates and work the edges of the main channel with a frog. Cast as much as possible to cover as much ground but keep your eyes peeled, they give themselves up more often than not. You’ll see them come up for air, splash around or chase bait on top. Once the water level is a little higher push back into the marshy stuff and push your way around looking for any signs of life and cast at them.

Just the angle. I haven't seen them lose color at all.

what kind of license do you need to have for snakehead fishing?
In Virginia you just need your fishing license for fresh water to fish for them.
also with bending the hooks out like that try a heavier power rod to really drive that hook in 👍🏻

Serms right now is maybe towards the end of shad sesson, and last few years it has seemed to be in late may & june even into july that they find their spots to feed and around then the gar come in too. But i heard a fisherman ssy when the gat run the snakeheads retract so to speak ¿...
@@cliffkolsoniii I had good luck from Early May to mid June the summer I lived in Stafford. Once the water got too hot they got a bit lethargic. It should be picking up right about now. I’d hit crows nest in Stafford if you haven’t, went there a ton and always had decent enough luck.

Funny fyi that top water lure is the sam i lost a monster last year but i had mono 12lb test and the line cut like the wind but definately a snake.. . Any braid recomend on the line brand or color¿ ...
@@cliffkolsoniii Man, I used beyond braid in a bunch of dif colors, It didn't seem to make a difference. They were either going to go after the frog like a savage or not lol.

A lot of people in Virginia do. I’ve heard it’s a very good tasting fish. Both fish went home with my friend for him to eat and he said they were fantastic.
